It could only happen there. Anywhere in the western world, the environmentalists would have sued and pushed the project back 5 years and caused the price to double.

They have to do SOMETHING will all their excess money. That income won't last forever, the oil wells will run dry one day. This way they are ensuring that once the oil money is gone, that they will have a revenu-generating tourist destination.

I think it's a wonderful scheme. I am a great admirer of Arab architecture, and this particular scheme is totally over the top, but a complete success.
