You're reading I just bowled my third bowling game ever, and my first in 20 years. I bowled 61. It was embarrassing. Any tips on improving?

There are a lot of technical things, especially approach, balance and ball release, that have far more impact on how well you bowl than whether you are wearing a wrist support or not! If he is going to buy anything, it should be his own ball... but there are more basic things that can get anyone bowling between 120 and 150 consistently.
