  • Your idea does not have any basis in fact. It is cheaper (uses less gas) to drive at 55, there are fewer accidents at the lower speeds (70 - 65) and the traffic is so heavy that it is hardly ever clear enough to travel that fast anyway. It is not only politicians who have no incentive to pass such a law, the insurance companies, and anybody with a desire to survive the drive, also have no interest in it.
  • It has been proven many times you can drive at 60mph (100kph) on the highway and depending on the length of the trip the difference in time is never more than 15 to 20 minutes as compared to someone driving 75 mph (about 120kph). It is safer at 60 and you arrive more relaxed and you see more of what goes on around you. You also burn less fuel. Personally I have had the same car speed by me up to 11 times in one day! Back in the CB days I had a man pass me 3 times. when I stopped to eat lunch the man and his wife were there eating...he recognized me and said, "I have been driving 75 and 80mph and I cannot stay ahead of you." So take it from someone with over 56 years of driving experiance...driving 60 will only take you 20 minutes or less to get there over driving 75 or more.
