  • Is it an actual law, or just an edict? I'm still confused why more emphasis isn't placed on the teaching of English as the language of the land for aliens to the US.
  • Because of the massive invasion of illegal aliens from Mexico. They have tried very hard to impose their ways on Americans. In fact, most of them would like the U.S. to be a Spanish speaking country.
  • No such "law."
  • We still only have one "official" language.
  • Good point Scooter, the USA has had many nationalities emigrating there from the mid 1850s to present date and most probably every individual citizen can claim ancestory from all over the world.I cannot however answer your question why Spanish has been made your second language.
  • You are misinformed. The United States of America has NO official languages at all, let alone an official second language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_the_United_States You might want to read up on the issues and find out facts before you go around asking repeated questions about an issue you obviously don't understand. If you persist in asking questions about the same issue and refusing to educate yourself on the matter, I'm going to begin downrating you for willful ignorance.
  • Why not French, to which the English, Americans, and Russians compromised as the language of the United Nations after WW-2?
  • although english is ghte de facto language of the usa, there is no official us language. ergo there can be no official second language. don't be silly. welsh is more a throat complaint than a language. or more seriously, a language has to be widely spoken to be a contender for official language and there was a move to make german the official language. it is interesting to speculate how WWI and WWII would have gone if usa was a german-speaking nation
