Yeah its all about buying gifts these days
My train of thought...
Christmas was originally a Pagan holiday... then became the birth of Christ which makes it religious... and then it became a federal holiday... so separation of church and state... makes it bogus.
Christmas has definitely become way too commercialised in my opinion. Just look at the all catlogues that turn up in your letterbox around Christmas time.
Most definitely. I get so mad when I go to shopping centres in OCTOBER and they're already playing Christmas songs and the decorations are all out already. By the first of freaking October. There is no spirit anymore, it's just about how much you spend on this one versus that one.
i think so, these days its all about the money honey.
yes and no. We do tend to spend more time wanting things instead of giving things. thats where we go wrong.
Yes way to comercialized. Most people have but there are those who haven't. It is the time of year that we recognize the birth of jesus, While I am not against the giving or recieving of gifts, Shouldn't we really be celibrating jesus's birth and giving to him that part of us that he should have? ( Our praise and Worship).
Have you see Charlie Brown's Christmas? They give a pretty good arguement about Christmas being commercialized
my friend and i were having a huge argument over it. my boyfriend doesn't believe in god, so he doesn't celebrate christmas. makes sense, right? well our friend wanted us to go to the christmas parade, and we were like ehh, we don't celebrate, and he was like "well it's not about that, it's about spending time with your friends and getting presents and stuff" and i told that wasn't what it was supposed to be about and he was like "you just need to not be so narrow minded and let new ideas in"
wow i just kinda rambled. but i mean if you don't believe in god/go to church, i don't think you should celebrate.
You bet it has. Even before any of here were born. Commercialized Christmas prabably started hundreds of years ago.
Deffinetly. I like the idea of giving gifts, but now it's all about the gifts. these days when a kid doesn't get the thing they wanted, they'll have an attitude. when i was a little kid, i was happy with what i got. this has everything to do with the companies advertizing on tv. the kids see it and expect it. UGH!!!
Are you kidding? It's almost completely commercialized as far as I can tell! I'm not participating in the debt creating free-for-all. The only good part about it (aside from the religious aspect, for those who believe in it) is families coming together and the fact that there is more 'charity' at this time of year.
Ask the Christains!!! Its there thing these days. If your not Christain why you ask?
yes it has - people dont remember the real meaning of Christmas, especially the kids!
Yeah, well....the way we think of what Christmas is has kinda changed over the past few years. I donno what it is though, but something has changed about it.
The holiday is really about everyone being so pleased that the sun has started to come up higher in the sky that they celebrate by sacrificing, eating, drinking and fornicating. It is only the Pauline christians, who, having stolen the festivities, sought to make them a part of their superstition and introduced the idea of giving expensive gifts - gold, frankinsence and myrrh. As most people will spend less than the cost of these expensive gifts you could argue that things have got less commercialised.
In general it seems we have all bought into the whole
commercialized scene, but there are many of us who remember exactly what Christmas is about.

You're reading Does anyone else think that Christmas has become too commercialized? Have we lost what this holiday is really all about?
