    VW designs greate cars.

Let me emphasize: DESIGNs, not produces.

I have had my VW Passat for 3 years and I really like it. I bought it new and have not had a single problem with it. It is a great car. If I keep taking a good care of it, it will literaly run forever.

If you decided to buy a VW car, you would prefer that this is assembled in Germany and not Mexico. I am not being biased here but it is my experience that cars that are assembled in Germany have fewer problems. The reason that you want fewer problems with VW cars is because the level of service provided by VW dealers is quite poor. Friends of mine have owned new Golfs and Beetles. They bought those cars new and had a lot of defects. Every time they tried getting service from a VW dealer, the quality of repair was poor. One guy had a manufacture's defect on his Gulf and wanted the dealership to fix it. After a long time the dealer told him that they just did not know how to fix that. The guy ended up selling his VW for a Japanese car.

I don't want to trash the whole VW enterprise. I just want to tell you that even if you buy a new car from a good company, you may still run into problems.

You can go to websites like edumunds.com and kbb.com. They have sections dedicated to each car/model where users talk about their expiriences. I am sure you will find a lot of useful information there.

    Good luck.

I recently bought a 2006 VW 2.0 Turbo with Package 2...there are some huge differences in choosing a car with the standard 2.5 L engine vs. the 2.0T...I chose the Turbo bc i spend a lot of time in my car, in enjoy the speed, especially the pick up and the difference in gas mileage as well...also, there are some pretty big differences in the package
1 and 2...all the little extra trim differences make a difference, in my opinion, and it also increases the resale value of the car as well...

in the end, it just depends on what you want...

Not trying to sound biased but if you must have a bug, go with the Turbo Diesel. They are quiet and get great mileage 48-55 mpg and have plenty of power for what anybody really needs. I have owned just about everything foreign and I stay now with American made. Many of the cars made here get as good or better mileage and performance as the foreign ones do and the parts are much more resonable. Service is usually very good too. No need to wait sometimes months for parts. I have owned one VW and it was fun for a while but too small. I like metal around me and a comfortable ride with good mileage. I have worked on cars for about 40 years on and off. Of course this is my opinion. Check out the Chevy Cobalt Turbo/Supercharged. 5 Star rated! Affordable, safe and good economy. Henry
