  • It sounds like you oxygen sensor is off. As long as it runs fine you should be OK.
  • Sounds like the oxygen sensor is bad
  • That was my thought too but I've noticed my gas mileage is down now. Could a bad oxygen sensor do that?
  • I would have to say that the oxegyn sensor is down. Because I have heard that it is a common thing in a ranger mainly the two-thousands and up.
  • I replaced the rear sensor (it has 3) and cleared the codes and so far so good, no codes came up and no 'check engine' light. A big thanks to everyone for your help.
  • Well the light came back on again! I scanned it again and now it shows no codes but when we hooked up the computer the left oxygen sensor keeps reading rich while the others keep switching between rich and lean, like they should. Could I have 2 sensors go out at the same time or could it be something else?
  • Its possible that if your ranger has 4 o2 sensors they could all have gone out. It kind of pricy so you should try changing out two at a time.
  • I,d take a look at the mass air flow senser, and also look at fuel pressure. pull vacum hose off fuel pressure regulator and see if there,s sign,s of gas (bad diaphram), you may try cleaning mass air flow senser first, use only cleaner approved for such use so you don,t damage it
  • i had 2003 ranger with 89000 miles that caught on fire after check engine came on i had then reset the light they said . problem was fixed and then check engine came on again and wasb running rich and slugglish woulf this cause the vehicle to go up in flames
  • i have had the same problem and it is more than likely the o2 sensor, another possibility is your catlytic convertor
