When you first start up your computer a text message briefly appears on screen saying 'Press Delete to enter setup' (it may be F2 instead of delete).
At that point press the appropriate key and the BIOS setup will load. The boot order will probably be floppy disk first and hard drive second. Scroll through the options until you arrive at CD first, followed by hard drive, save the changes and exit.
If you re-format your drive you will lose every single piece of information on it, so make sure you have back-ups of any files and documents, etc that you need. Also make sure that you have all the CDs that were provided with things like printers, scanners modems, routers, etc or else you may not be able to use them.

You're reading How do I make sure that the bios will boot to cd ? I dont know how to do this. I understand that to reformat I must be sure it boots from cd. What stuff wont copy over during reformat? will I lose my drivers ? This is a 1998 computer I have babied Thanks

Great answer!! Many people don't realize that formating destroys all the info on a disk.
