Italy, one of those traditions came out of Rome and the Saturnalia (which is in modern Italy), but it is not the first, nor the most direct, influence on modern gift-giving. Italy did, of those choices. The roman's gift giving preceding Christmas but was incorporated in to the development of the holiday. While Greece and Norway may have similar practices at the time, they were not the link to Christmas that italy was nor was the practice as widespread
