  • Doctors do not base conception dates on when you ovulated. They use an archaic formula based on when your last period was. The formula assumes women ovulate 14 days following ovulation. MANY women, if not most, ovulate on days other than the 14th. Even after the pregnancy is well under way, the doctor would still not be able to accurately determine to the day when you ovulated since babies grow at different rates. The only way for a doctor to accurately know when you ovulated is for you to tell him/her or for him/her to do ovulatory tests every day following the end of your period. Since the latter is inconvenient and expensive and most women cannot be bothered with keeping track of ovulation themselves, the only other recourse doctors have is to use the last period method.
