First, see a dentist because you shouldn't be losing teeth that fast.
Second, if you're only making $3 you are far enough below the poverty line that you won't be paying taxes.
Third, taxes are not payable to either the President or the Speaker of the House.

I've often struggled with separating the artist from the art. Whether it's Michael Jackson, Roman Polanski or Richard Wagner. I vacillate frequently but tend to lean towards the side of judging the art on it's own merit. After all, if we took the work of all the pervs, anti-semites and assholes away, there wouldn't be much left to hang on your walls or listen to on your...

Mine don't - thank God!
I would say in-laws interfere for the same reason any parent interferes with their child's life - they believe they know what's best for him/her and they want to keep their child from harm. Trouble is, once they're grown up and married, it's time to let that sh#t go and let them fall on their faces if that's what's going to happen.

No. I don't think any faith-based programs should be supported by government money. I watch both but I have to remind myself it's like political masturbation for me. We live in an age of knee-jerk defensiveness. I think it's more defined then ever. The extremists have become so extreme that everyone else is part of a stampede to the middle to avoid guilt by association. Same thing happened under Clinton with the Dems running to a centrist position to avoid association with the extreme left.
The question now is, after several years of playing to the crowd that finds the extreme conservative...

Yes. Nothing. No one. My husband is loyal to a fault and I have pretty solid self esteem so that crap doesn't bother me. In our profession it happens to us all the time so getting upset about it would lead to a continual state of freak out for me if I let it.

This is really two questions.
1. Are our current laws effective?
and
2. Should we prosecute people on a case by case basis?
My answers:
1. Mostly
2. People ARE prosecuted on a case by case basis. If you're talking about prosecuting people in the absence of laws then that's a different story. It's not possible. People can't break laws that don't exist.

The Bush administration specialized in deceit. How else could you get the public (& a feckless Congress) to go along with an invasion of Iraq as an absolutely essential response to the 9/11 attacks, when Iraq had had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks?
While I agree with your hypothesis that the admin was rawther shady and hateful, the other piece of the pie is a panicky and complicit public. Yes the fear was hyped but you can't hype something if you don't have a hype-able bunch of folks and when people react to things based on panic or a gut feeling rather than thinking a problem through they'll agree to just about anything.

Does being overweight help people sing opera or is it just a field where that doesn't matter so people don't have to force their bodies to conform to a shape that isn't natural for many?
Opera is no longer a field where your looks don't matter. It's becoming more about the look and less about the sound everyday. Hence the decrease in the vocal integrity of opera 'stars' and the increase in sex appeal (Netrebko is a good example of this). Hence an amazing singer like Debbie Voigt getting gastric bypass surgery.
One does not need to be overweight to sing...

No. Not because there won't be other singers as great as they, but because the business would rather churn out pretty faces with lack-luster voices. I love Bubbles, but if she were to audition for the Met today, they'd turn her away in favor of an Anna N type.

To Professional/Trained Singers: Which techniques (names of them) & exercises were you taught? which things/techniques/exercises would & wouldn't you recommend? - to a newbie just starting out. Introductory pointers muchhh appreciated!!!
This is far to complex a question to answer completely. To start with-what kind of singing are you talking about? Jazz, Pop, Classical, Broadway?
Also, one thing you should know at the outset is that proper technique is more than just mastering a few exercises and anyone who tells you differently is grossly oversimplifying,
I am an opera singer and was trained in the Bel Canto Technique....

I'm betting you did not go on vocal rest while sick (naughty!) and you've done about 4 times the damage than a simple cold would have.

I am having problems singing in tune without background music (acapella) is there any way I can over come this or what do you think it is? (serious answers please this is very important)
If you are able to hear and reproduce a tune, then "hearing" or "tuning" are not your problem. Your problem is "intonation" which is a different animal all together. If your intonation is flat it's usually the result of a technical problem (assuming that it's not just nerves).
Faulty intonation for singers is rarely a function of faulty hearing. If,...

It's terrifically hard to diagnose someone you can't hear in person, but I will venture a guess.
The chocking sensation is probably due to either a rising larynx or rising tongue. Both of these bad habits develop as compensatory measures for bad breath support. At 55, and after years of what was probably not heatlhy technique, you just can't get away with unsupported...

You are at your lowest point, you've hit rock bottom. you're on the edge of a ravine of emptiness and you see no reason to continue holding on. what makes you climb out, what makes you keep going?
You know when you get an inflamed tastebud and you keep probing it with your tongue or teeth even though it hurts? That's sort of how it is for me when I think I've hit rock bottom. I hold out to see if it can get any worse. Even though it hurts. Morbid curiosity maybe. If you can just wait it out, things usually improve.
Those moments are actually very freeing I think.

No way, that's a slippery slope and it undermines the authority of the teacher. Teachers who are "tough graders" are, IMHO, the best preparation for univeristy a student can get.

It's interesting maybe. A rare occurance perhaps...but ironic it is not because the reverse of what is expected did not occur.
I blame Alanis Morisette for giving an entire generation the wrong definition of irony.

What do you think the difference in education would be if homework was done away with?
Students would never learn that ending a sentence in a preposition is grammatically incorrect! LOL.
"Statistics" show that the retention rate of pretty much anything you learn in a classroom is 7%. If it weren't drilled into you with the repetition of homework that sad little percentage would probably fall to about 5%.

What can a soprano do to become more comfortable at the lower end of their range? (I'm not trying to push my range lower but I've never been comfortable with notes I need to able to sing in music)
Every single note you sing has to have a "thread of chest". Most sopranos I've worked with who have a less than solid bottom are chest voice phobic. Also, almost all registration problems are a result of improperly mixing chest and head in the middle voice. Sopranos tend to bring too much head voice down and Mezzos tend to bring too much chest voice up.

A diphthong is a monosyllabic vowel (fancy talk for two vowel sounds that transition quickly and smoothly as to sound like a single sound).

Because IQ tests, like race, or heritage are another way of excluding people and making yourself feel superior. Even if they are inaccurate its still a way of saying "I'm in this group and you're not." As a member of Mensa, DAR, Colonial Dames, and a bunch of other really stupid groups my mother made me join I know this to be true first-hand.

In class have you ever locked horns with a teacher over something that he/she said that you thought was absurd or untrue?
Yes. I once had a teacher tell me that I was a confused lesbian in front of the class (when I was a high school student). I have nothing against confused lesbians, I just don't belond to that demographic. I informed her that I was not a confused lesbian but I'm pretty sure I could round up a few of not-so-confused lesbian activist that would be happy to educate her on the topic.

IS 17 to young to get married if you love him?
Yes. I don't mean to sound like one of those adults who thinks that young people can't make any decisions on their own but its been scientifically proven that people under the age of 25 do not think the same way that people older than 25 (25ish, give or take!). There's a switch that gets thrown in the brain around that age and the decision making moves from the amygdala which...

Suuuure its for a friend. I think inanimate objects can't technically be raped and are thus fair game. Your "friend" should really use protection though because hey, who knows where that scarecrow has been? Also there's a splinter factor.

Domestic Violence of any type. On the surface this might not seem like the most severe crime, but I believe it to be the root of almost all criminal activity. The most severe punishment would be a Clockwork Orange-type reconditioning.

Can something be quintessential when there's more than one of it? I think jazz, like bluegrass, gospel, shapenote singing are uniquely American because they exemplify what America is. Head voice and Chest voice are euphamistic terms that refer to two different passagio (or "registers) involved in singing.

A former co-worker of mine used a surrogate and it worked out well. I think the best way to go is through an agency that screens and matches the couple with the right surrogate. Also, if its possible using your own eggs and sperm is a good way to go to ensure that the surrogate has no claim on the baby if she flips out and tries to keep it.

No, unless he signed something in the divorce settlement or paternity suit stating that he would continue to support the child past 18 or pay for college, that sort of thing. Although I would hope that, as a father, he would willingly want to continue to help his child.

If you're looking for a scientific answer, the only medical fact I know is that its possible to be allergic to sperm. Everything else falls in to the category of the other person being exposed to environmental allergens that you are allergic too. Non-scientifically its DEFINITELY possible to be allergic to people!! Why should we pray?
Prayer, regardless of who your praying to is (at least the way I see it) an unburdening or sorts. So even if you're not expecting your prayer to be miraculously answered, its like a nice mental tidy-up. I sometimes pray at bed time to get things off of my chest and out of my head so I can sleep (in addition to the religious obligation of prayer). I find it helpful to pray a prayer of...

Yes. I like to use them completely out of context to create a new slang. I call this process "misappropriation of the xenocentric vulgate". LOL I have to much free time. Does EZ pass really track how fast you are driving?
Sort of-what its really tracking is the time it takes you to get from one toll booth to the next. So if by going to speed limit it takes 45 minutes to get from one to the other and you make it in 20, well then they know you're speeding. That's what they do with trucks at weigh stations too-which is why you will occasionally see a line of semis parked on the side of the road....

I hope you're not seriously asking this question because you do not know the answer. Of course its not OK. It wouldn't be ok to beat a dog just because you fed it and its certainly not ok to do it to you. Your dad has a screw loose. Don't for a second believe his BS. The style you're refering to (whether the person is "ghetto" or whatever) comes from prison attire. You're not allowed a belt or shoe laces. The style grew as a statement about "Thug life".

I should point out that he's not "my man" anymore. The whole knife/stove thing pretty much marked the end of our relationship!

Side note, my sister is awesome and I was totally out of line-I've since taken it back. Oh yeah, she also gave me bone marrow that saved my life. I was quite the little sh*t that day!

I think Job was ultimately being tested by God, wasn't he? I mean Satan was the one who took everything away from Job, but wasn't it God who told him he could-to prove that Job would remain faithful to God, even if Job were no longer prosperous?
In rapid succession, Job is suddenly informed by four servants of four different tragedies to strike his household. First, Sabeans...

What is 'deja vu' exactly, and what explanations are out there that account for why people experience it?
My neurologist says that Deja vu occurs when the unconscious mind percieves a situation slightly before the conscious mind does, creating a short delay and giving you the senstation that what is happening has already happened before because, technically, it is already in your memory even though it only got there a milisecond before the conscious mind processed the scene. Make sense?

Is it right for your best friend to go out with your ex boyfriend and which i still have feelings for and all and i think she is only doing it to piss me off
Hell no. Even if you don't give a damn about him anymore its still not right. There are enough men in this world that your "friend" doesn't need to chase after your sloppy seconds and if she feels compelled to do so then clearly there are other issues going on. Maybe she's jealous of the relationship you had with him, maybe she's secretly in love with you, maybe...

Do you think it's a good idea for children to learn foreign languages in Elementary School instead of High School?
They should start as early as possible and continue through their academic careers. There's a short window of time when the brain is capable of learning how to learn a foreign language. Its important to tap into that at the right time. I began French lessons when I was in kindergarten and I feel that because my brain discovered the way to learn languages at a young age, I pick up new...

Probably not. Once hooked, very few people have the strength to get off drugs. If losing your home, family, self isn't enough incentive I fail to see how foodstamps will motivate you. Because it finds fault with Israeli policies. He puts blame on the US and Palestine too, but its rarely pointed out that Palestinians are suffering under Israeli occupation. Well, first there was the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act by the British Parliament in 1807. Do you feel that, nowadays, all doctors do is pack you with drugs "by the book", and they don't cure you anymore, but just keep the disease "under control"?
Because of the way (in the US at least) our healthcare system is setup, doctors are seeing more patients, and spending less time with each. More doctors are practicing 'defensive' medicine so they don't get sued, and the sky-rocketing costs of malpratice insurance keeps them packing the patients in. Blood, semen, vaginal fluid and breast milk. Those fluids coming in to contact with an open wound will do it-there are so many permutations of how it can occur. 18? The problem with our society is that we no longer have any real rites of passage into adulthood. Trolls please leave a name when you down rate this.
Not sure, unless you indicated that it was racially motivated, in which case that would be a pretty good reason for people to rate you down. I like Oprah-she does a lot of great things and has a good head on her shoulders. That alone probably knocks her out of the running to be president. ;)

How can I avoid talking in my sleep?
Note that this is purely anecdotal! I am a sleepwalker/talker and I noticed (or rather my husband noticed) that it gets worse when I allow myself to get too fatigued or interupt my normal sleep pattern. Also stress can increase the incidents of sleepwalking/talking. But this is just from my personal experience. You may have other factors that influence your situation-medication, insomnia,...

I can only speak to vocal training and the answer is no. Because of the physiology of the human body one can never truly hear themselves when singing-you only get a distorted perception of the sound. Sounds like they are impacted. You will probably need to yank them. Impacted wisdom teeth may cause no problems. They're called impacted when there is not enough space for them at the back of the mouth. They can cause pain, swelling, infection or damage to the teeth next to them. If the gum around the wisdom tooth is swollen the jaw may become stiff and sore. Infection at the back of the...

It is more than likely a myth that she had eleven fingers as is widely reported. My boyfriend is Anglican and I am Episcopalian. Can we still be married?
Of course! As an Episcopalian you should know that already! How many Sundays have you heard "and in the Anglican Communion we pray for the diocese of (insert diocesan name here). Episcopalians are the American arm of the Anglican church. We are members of the "Worldwide Anglican Communion". Yes, you can marry him, now all he has to do is ask.

Answer to:
When health professionals say that alcoholism is hereditary, do you think they mean there is a gene for alcoholism, or is it a more generalized predisposition to a broad range of addictions?
I guess what I am really asking (sorry if the question came out wrong) is-in terms of the genes that cause these things, are people born with an "addiction gene" and its really just chance or environment that makes them alcoholics, or binge-eaters or pill-poppers, or porn addicts, etc?

Answer to:
Is the "common language" of your country also the official language of your country? Should English be the official language for legal and business purposes in America?
No the common language is not the official language-the US has not officially declared an official language (although some states have). Yes English should be made the official language-not to marginalize immigrants, but, as Roger has pointed out, language is needed to unify diverse groups.
Answer to:
If, having only one match, on a freezing winter day, you entered a room which contained a lamp, a kerosene heater, and a wood burning stove, which should you light first?
The lamp so I could see what the heck I was doing with the other items. Also, its seems like the easiest thing to light, seeing as I have only one match-wow I'm a pretty sucky planner.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course...the match. Doy!

Answer to:
I was parked in a parking garage and my car was hit by another car, which left the scene and did not leave a note or any other information. Does the parking garage owner/company have any liability or can their insurance cover the damages?
The garage is not liable, and chances are your insurance company will estimate your damage at just under the cost of your deductible-they're pretty psychic that way. Leaving you to foot the bill.
Answer to:
Soap or body wash?
Body wash-bar soap leaves wax on you that clogs your pores.

Answer to:
When you consider the known dangers of smoking and the social aversion to smokers these days why would a young person start smoking now. I know in my generation they became addicted while it was still socially acceptable but why would anyone start now.
Because its super cool. All the cool, rich celebutards are doing it. Also its a great way to lose weight. (I hope the sarcasm is coming through on this post!) It think there are still plenty of people in the public eye who do it. And we're nothing if not sheep!
Answer to:
Would you rather have a maid or a chef?
A chef! I think it would be easier to drop those five pounds after Christmas with a personal chef. However, I would dress him up as a maid.

Are you governed more by logical thought, or by emotion?
Hmm well I'm right at the age where the logical frontal lobe takes decision-making control away from the emotional amygdala, so I guess logic.

Answer to:
When someone tells you something, how do you decide it is true? (Yes, I'm asking how YOU do it, not how I should do it.)
My amazing incredible super duper BS detector! I'm not sure I have a process (like watching for the person to shift their glance, or other body language cues). I think it might be a 6th sense. One time when I was six my dad brought some work colleagues home for dinner and when one of them went to shake my hand I screamed bloody murder, ran outside, and refused to return while he was in...

Answer to:
What causes narcolepsy?
The causes of narcolepsy are currently unknown, or I should say there are theories but nothing has been proven. There is a hereditary component, but then again some people with it have no relatives that have it. Some researchers believe it is caused by damage to the amygdala. Short answer is no one knows.

Answer to:
Does anyone feel that common sense is getting less and less with each year and generation and why?
Yes-it goes hand in hand with the fact that we are thinking less and less for ourselves. Granted this is a gross generalization but these days we're spoon fed our politics and opinions-its hard to see where we begin and the machine of propaganda ends.

Answer to:
What would you do if your partner cheated on you?
I don't think anyone can really answer this question unless it has already happened. My stock answer would be "I would destroy him then leave" but I'm not sure what I would really and truly do. After reading these answers I will say that I would love to beat the snot out of some of the "cheaters" you all have talked about!

Why do people think love is so grand when it causes so much pain?
It doesn't if you do it right ;) LOL I think if someone thinks its grand its because they have had a positive experience of it. I think its a very subjective statement.
