Answer to:
When you are attracted to someone, do you tell them or just ask them out?
I don't have the luxury of doing either one. I'm gay and live/work in an area where the few gay men I meet are either taken or closeted. Expressing such an interest in the wrong man could prove to be dangerous for me. I'll be glad when our society gets past that.

Answer to:
How do I let my gay friend know that I'm interested?
Since each of you knows the other is gay, and you're already friends, just telling him honestly that you are interested in exploring the possibility of a deeper relationship may work quite well. But it sounds like you may experiencing some fear of rejection. If that's the case, just drop little hints here and there. Greet him with a kiss (when appropriate); touch his forearm occasionally...

Optimists look for/expect good and pessimists look for/expect not so good. Why would anyone want to be a pessimist?
Happy New Year, Rosie, madear!
I see pessimism not as something people want to be, but as a result of a jaded growth process. When one is disappointed often enough, he naturally begins to expect to be disappointed, and, wallah, a pessimist is born.

My best female friend is my future ex-wife (fxw). We obviously don't see eye-to-eye on enough things to keep us together.
My best male friend is an atheist, while I'm a Christian. My "pendulum" swung from wanting to convert him to wanting to run away as fast and far as possible. I've chosen to be his friend and live my life before him, letting him glean what he may from that. I truly...

Among your family/friends group, are you a leader or part of the pack? Do you comply with whatever "the leader" decides without question?
I'm the youngest of three children in my family, and both of my siblings have always been very strong. So I learned early to fall in line. Are you able to ignore character and just focus on a person's accomplishments?
That depends on the person's position. For example, in a sports figure, accomplishments count while character is none of my business; but in a minister or elected official, character outweighs anything else.

Why is bisexuality not widely accepted by the homosexual community?
Tigueron makes a good point with the statement "...you have to make a choice in order to make a commitment." There is a lot of competition in the dating world. If that person is bi-sexual, we have to compete with "everyone" of BOTH genders. And that leads to twice...

How can I forget a childhood nightmare or memory?
I cant stop thinking about a story I read once and a

I think that working through the cause and effect issues involved would be helpful. The best way to do this is with therapy. S/He can also help you uncover the basis of the nightmare and the cause of its recurrence.

It does seem very much inappropriate. Each of us should realize the there is life outside of AnswerBag.

Do your wants outnumber your needs?
If you accept the idea that we have only two needs, i.e., shelter and sustenance, then yes, wants definitely outnumber needs.
The problem we have is that our wants beget "perceived" needs which, in turn, beget more "perceived" needs. The process repeats itself until we feel we have only one want left: we want our needs to be met.

1) Treat him as a friend for now. If stronger feelings are there, they will develop over time. And you have plenty of time.

Sometimes, but not always. I have a friend who challenges me when I can't (he thinks won't) defend my thoughts or feelings. Drives me nuts. (But that's a short trip already.)

"Boss"...."bossy". Funny. I haven't had many "bossy" bosses, have you? I have had supervisors who were guiding me and training me and reviewing my work and very helpful to me but "bossy"? Not so much. Wonder how boss turned into bossy? What do you think?
Pure speculation:
"bossy" was an accurate adjective form of "boss" early on when "boss" referred to the head honcho of a group of slaves or other laborers conscripted into service. They had to rule with an iron fist or they'd loose their workforce.

Why do some christians object to Harry Potter and Frosty the Snowman? These stories demonstrate magical powers in an obvious fictional context. It is the Xtians who put forth their magical stories as fact!
I've never heard of anyone having a problem with Frosty the Snowman.
A reason that some Christians dislike Harry Potter is not so much that they have a problem with the fictional context, but that it may influence some young people to seek similar special powers, which may lead them to follow the occult or become Satanists, and so forth. They believe that the only spiritual powers worth...

Why do so many people incorrectly write/say "PROLLY," instead of the proper/correct "PROBABLY?" Are they lazy, or do they have a speech impediment that prevents the correct pronunciation from being used?
In informal speaking, I usually say "probly." But I know the difference and when it is and isn't acceptable. In most of my writing, when doing public speaking, or conversing with customers, etc, I "probably" speak with...

Show him this question and tell him it's yours. Or you could pretend it isn't yours and ask him what he thinks about it, followed by a calm expression of your own feelings.
The point is that if you don't tell him how you feel, he won't know there is a need to stop. As a typical man, he's clueless, you know.

Why is it that everytime I ask for a french vanilla cappucino at a fancy coffee shop, they say "french vanilla latte"? Are they the same? The drink doesn't taste the same... but the fancy shops always give me a latte... why?
The difference between a cappuccino and a latte is the amount of foam (from the steamed milk). The latte has about 1/4-1/2 inch on top, while a cappuccino has quite a bit more. Timing and temperature are very important in making a cappuccino, and adding a flavoring would interrupt the process. Also, mixing the flavoring into a cappuccino would remove the air from the foam, turning the drink...

In Western culture many countries, states, and municipalities have outlawed sexual acts between members of the same gender, hence the trials of people such as Oscar Wilde and Quentin Crisp...

a. 3/4
b. 4/3

Well, I don't support financial reparations for descendants of slaves, left-handed people forced to use their right hands, girls forced to wear dresses, or students taught that evolution is fact, either. +3

Why are some gay people uncaring about whether gay marriage is legal or not?
Maybe it's the word "marriage." I'm gay, but not interested in participating in the institution of marriage again. I do, however, care deeply about equality. I believe that domestic partners, straight and gay, should be entitled to the same rights and privileges as "married" people. I'm referring to things like tax advantages, family medical coverage,...

Is it acceptable to fire an employee for being a Christian with poor boundaries?
So what ARE the boundaries? Who says the employee's boundaries are "poor"? It seems that we've gotten away from our roots as a nation. This country was founded, in part, on the principle of religious freedom, and now we punish people for living their faith as they see fit. We've gone too far when we fire people for expressing their Christianity.

A couple of thoughts, if I may.
First, from your descriptions, I believe that you have already indicated your preference. Believing a lie can have negative results in one's life;

Should my mother be invited to my sister-in laws wedding? Both she and my in-laws are paying for it.
I'm not sure to which "she" you refer when you say "Both she and my in-laws are paying for it." But it sounds reasonable that "she" is your sister-in-law. Given that, my next question would be about how close your mother and sister-in-law are. If they were close, you probably wouldn't be posing this question. So, I've about talked myself into...

Which is easier for you? Answering questions or asking them?
I find answering easier, too. I guess I'm not all that imaginative for initiating a thought process with a question, but much better at capitalizing on the jump start others' questions give me. I also tend to draw a blank on new questions when I sit down at the computer; no problem thinking of them when I'm not where I can write them down, but once back at the ol' keyboard...

Play Tennis, Badminton or Ping Pong.
As for tennis, I know I could hit the ball up against a wall, but that wouldn't be tennis, would it. It would be a good ol' game of "Hit a ball up against a wall with a tennis racket."
Answer to:
A GF of mine has offered to fix me some eggs, any way I like them. Why do Southerners think that eggs need to be "fixed?" Why can't they be "poached," "srambled," "hard-boiled" or "fried?" Do Southern cooks think eggs REALLY need to be "repaired?"
If it ain't broke don't fix it?
Or
A raw egg still in the shell is not generally considered suitable for human consumption (tantamount to "broke"). Hence, it needs to be "fixed" to make it suitable for your delicate digestive system.
Howzat, y'all?

I pay attention to labels at the grocery store. And, yes, my visits there are more rare since learning of the fat and sodium content of their foods.

Some Atheists suggest that, because Religion in the USA is indeed a BUSINESS, that they should be required by law to report their income & pay their fair share of taxes on their capital gains. I agree with that. What are your views on that?
There have already been several good answers, on both sides of this issue. My view is that religious entities should be required to submit financial records to determine whether they are properly operating under "not for profit" guidelines. Churches that properly funnel their income into charity or mission concerns should not be penalized. Ministries whose leaders drive Rolls Royce...

When one reads stories like this one about the one-legged Dove and the orphaned Bunnies [click on the link, below this question], how can Atheists continue to claim that a Gawd never existed? (It just seems so "illogical" of them, doesn't it?)
Well, I've never understood the "logic" of Atheism, but a story like this just isn't enough to create an epiphany. If God intervened in the details of this life, that dove would have had two legs and that dog would have been on a leash. For me, belief in God is a matter of faith, not proof. And most everyone who has none considers faith to be totally illogical.

Yes, it's possible, but it's not likely. A couple of things to consider:
Guys often play the "love card" to get sex. Don't give it to him until you are BOTH sure.
If he really loves you, he'll be doing everything he can to win your love, not searching for greener pastures just because you're not sure yet.
Good luck.

What is your opinion on the subject of abortion? Explain please!
I am basically pro-life. I believe that every woman should have the right to choose, but that she should choose BEFORE she jumps in the sack. This means that I must make allowance for rape victims. For that, I favor the "morning after" pill.
One more thing: there is NEVER a legitimate reason for performing the so-called "partial birth" late-term abortion.

Of course, that may bite, too, but it's just a suggestion.

Which is a more mature outlook for a child's political views; to believe something just because their parents do, or to be into whatever is the opposite of what their parents believe?
Neither outlook is mature in and of itself. To believe "x" because that's what Mom and Dad taught me is blind conformity. To believe "y" because it is the opposite of what Mom and Dad taught me is outright rebellion. The mature thing to do, when old enough to do so, is to weigh all options, decide for oneself, and be prepared to explain the decision.

I failed a drug test for marajuana. I only smoke weed after work. Do you think i should be denied employment?
I say the company has the right to set its criteria for employment.
I suppose it follows that you have the right to smoke weed if you want to, but with that decision comes the requirement that you accept the consequences of your actions. Being disqualified for employment is one of those consequences. And there are worse consequences than that, too.

Sorry to tell you this, but you're not going to qualify for unemployment either way.
If you quit your job, you don't qualify; and if you are fired for something like stealing, you definitely won't qualify.
Good luck to you.

Answer to:
Guys - if your best friend had a broken arm/fingers and needed a nut, would you jerk him off? What if the situation were reversed?
Are you kidding? For my best friend I'd move in and do whatever he needed. A better question would be "Would you wipe his ass?" If you'll do that, jerking him off would be no big deal.
Frankly, I'd be pleasantly surprised if my current best friend would do the same for me. But I'm nicer than he is.

My employer is eliminating my job. They gave me the option of re locating to another site, which I cannot do, or de mote myself to a different position, which I also am unable to do due to the training/scheduling. Am I eligible for unemployment?
It seems to me that declining to accept either of the choices they offer would leave them with the single option of discharging you due to the elimination of your position. As long as you don't resign, or do something illegal or blatantly against company policy, you should be able to collect unemployment.

Is it possible to be gay but still have ocassional sexual feelings for certain women, or would than mean that person is Bi?
When I was a young man, I had huge crushes on Farrah Fawcett and Olivia Newton John. From my childhood, I seemed to relate much better to girls than to guys. Throughout high school and college, I dated only girls, falling (what I thought was) truly in love with at least 4 of them. Oh yeah - and I even married one of them.
But sexuality is a matter of the mind and emotions - not just the...

I believe my mother is showing signs of becoming senile, as she is frequently bringing up bad memories of our family from over thirty years ago. She is hurting all of us in the process with these comments, but is it too late to tell her she's out of line?
If she is becoming senile, especially if it is due to Alzheimer's Disease, it won't matter too much, because these conditions affect the short-term memory.
If her bringing up these old, hurtful memories is the only sign of senility, then telling her might help.
Want some "how to" advice?
Don't tell her she's out of line. Rather, when she brings up one of these...

Your first love will always be just that: your first love. You may never forget her, but you will get over her.
There's a saying: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." That means that the girl you see and speak to today is of far more value to you than the one you haven't seen in a year and with whom you have never spoken.

Well it doesn't bother me for someone to open it the "other" way, but it really bugs me if the carton gets torn. I prefer to open it at the flap because it makes it easier to scoop out all the way to the bottom. I use a knife to pry the flap up, then to pry the top from the ice cream. It works pretty well.

Would you assume that a Satanist is evil?
Satanists revere the very essence of evil. It follows that they are spiritually evil. It does not follow that they are "bad people." The evil can do good, just as the good can do evil. On the surface, there isn't that much difference between a Satanist and a Christian: it's just that Christians have received forgiveness for the evil they do.

My friend who's a guy really likes me. I like him too, but not in that way. we've discussed a lot of stuff and come to conclusions that we would rather not sacrifice a friendship for a relationship. Would it be "wrong" or ho-like if we kissed?
If you mean a quick peck as part of a greeting or salutation, you'd probably be OK. But if you mean making out, you'll be sending each other mixed signals that will become increasingly difficult to decipher. Eventually, one or both of you will end up being hurt.

I do have a friend who is often brutally honest and offensive. I'm trying to learn to live with it to a certain extent, and help him learn to be softer with his answers. But I'd rather he stay just the way he is than to replace him with a "fake" who really couldn't be called a "friend" at all.

There's a perception that in homosexual relationships, there is 1 partner who's more masculine, and another who's more feminine (one gives/one takes, one is butch, etc) I don't know many homosexual couples.Does this apply at all or is it a load of rubbish?
Well, there are those couples for whom the stereotype is true. But in reality, they are the exception, not the rule. The basis of a good relationship is love, not role assignment. In any loving relationship, both partners give, and both take; each leads in the areas of his strength while the other follows in the areas of his weakness. That's what makes relationships work.

Yes, flirting can be harmless, but I think that it is far more likely to be harmful. Not here in America, no. The fundamental rights that we wish we had should not be removed from others just for disagreeing with us. Is a long distance relationship even worth it?beause my bf lives and hour or so aways from me. we used to text and talk everyday but he quit what should i do and really is it worth it
If you're not SURE it's worth it, it's not worth it.
Long distance relationships seem to fit one of two cliches: "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" or "Out of sight, out of mind." Your bf seems to have fallen to the latter, so it may be time for you to start looking closer to home.
Best wishes.

Is judgement of others and or their beliefs and ideals simply done from lack of understanding or care ... In a world of constant change, is disagreement often found without judgement, or is judgement assessed simply by own self belief?
I believe that judgement is a natural consequence of disagreement. Think about it: if I disagree with you, I am thereby judging you to be wrong. If I thought you were right, of course, I would agree with you. The question follows, then, "To what extent do we judge?" In the extreme, judgement is expressed in the form of "holy wars" or attempts at genocide. Some...

OK, I'll try a more direct answer to your original question. Understand that this is a belief and not a fact that I've researched and proven.
No, I do not believe that the lack of a physical body is hell for demons. Angels do not have physical bodies and are gathered around the throne of God in heaven. Hell, for the demons and for anyone else who ends up there, is the state of...

Fascinating. I actually watched the whole video - and I'm not into old machines. I wondered for a while whether snow might become compacted between the "blades," causing it to lose traction, but it didn't appear to be a problem. Who knows why it didn't catch on - it's a shame, isn't it.

What does it mean when your man tells you I am content after you just asked him : " Honey, are you happy ?"
Think about it: you're asking a man to talk about emotions. You should be prepared for a muted answer.
For him to say he's content is his way of admitting that not everything is perfect: that there are things about his life that doesn't make him ecstatically happy, but he's not miserable, either. In the broadest sense, he's happy; even though there are some things...

I know your feelings for her are very strong. But you've fallen in love with a concept, not a person. Until you can meet, spend time together and get to know one another, you can't really say with certainty that you are in love with her.
So I recommend that you keep your feelings to yourself for now, and try to make plans to meet in person as soon as possible.

Your situation sounds like a legal issue to me, but since you posted it under "ethics" I'll offer my two cents worth with that in mind.

The name "Tartarus" is from Greek mythology, not the Bible, though it means something very similar to the biblical concept of Hell. Now I don't think that the Bible "defines" demons as disembodied spirits. Demons are referred to as "evil spirits" and were thought to traverse the earth, "possessing" people (in the spiritual sense) and otherwise...

I suspect you'd be OK to do such a nice thing. I think that, in most areas, 17 is considered to be the age of majority for most legal issues. (Notable exceptions: alcoholic consumption, privilege to vote, ability to enter into a legal contract.)
But your safest bet would be to a) try to secure the dad's written permission or b) seek counsel form a local attorney or family advocacy...

Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin because it is unnatural, but isn't it just as unnatural to suppress natural sexual urges (abstaining from sex until marriage). Cavemen would not have waited, animals do not wait. So what is the difference?
Wow, what a question! I could write a book trying to answer it completely. But let's try for a short version.
The Bible doesn't acknowledge the existence of cavemen. Man was created in the image and likeness of God, meaning, among other things, that he had the ability to reason and communicate from the very beginning. Therefore he is held to a higher standard than animals.

I gave my final rent check. I have to give one month notice. The notice is 4 days short, but the check is for a full month. Will I be penalized? (Rent is not late, just moving out 4 days earlier from the end of month)
Notice is from the date you give it and rent is paid accordingly. So if you gave 30 days notice on June 1, you pay rent 'till June 30.
No problem if you move out on June 26.
But if you gave notice on June 4, you should expect to pay rent through July 4. Otherwise, it would place your security deposit in jeopardy.

How likely do you think it would be for a 16 year old to date a 22 year old who she met 2 years ago when he was her camp counslor for a church event? Sex is out of the question, I'm waiting til marriage. So the legality isn't an object.
I'd say it's highly unlikely that her parents would condone their dating. And if either of them cares about what her parents think and say (and both of them should care), then it's unlikely that they would date.

Answer to:
My boyfriend and I have been together for 1 year. His child's mother (they were never married) passed away suddenly. Should I attend the funeral with him if he asks? Is this disrespectful to her family?
IMHO, the only reason your attendance might be disrespectful is if he was cheating on her with you. If you weren't in the picture at the time they split up, your attendance will show compassion and respect. Bear in mind, too, that your boyfriend may want custody of the child and, if so, your attendance will afford you the opportunity to begin the process of becoming a part of that...

I think AB is a fantastic forum for any kind of question. That's why it's here!

How do I deal with my girlfriends child when he is misbehaving?
That's a discussion you need to have with your girlfriend. She should take the lead, make the rules and set the example. Don't take too prominent a role unless you see marriage in your future, and if that is a possibility, be sure to reach agreement on child-raising methodologies before tying the knot.
Hope this helps.

Phoenix is right. Pick one question, please.
But if I were to pick the equation, I'd say:

(-2/x-2)=0
2>0, therefore, no solution.

Should you consider taking back your common law husband who cheated on you if he ended it? He is devasted and remorseful.
Yes, you should consider it. But before you actually take him back, try just dating him again. That's a good way to find out if he's really remorseful and trustworthy. If you just let him back in now, you may be setting yourself up for having to kick him out again.
Answer to:
Should I let my husband go to his Ex girlfriends for their daughters birthday party? He cheated on me with this girl now they have a child. She is still wanting to be with him. My husband and children will be with her family and friends. Please Help
In this type of situation, it has to be the child that matters. How old is the child? (If she's 1, it won't make that much difference.) Has your husband been an active part of her life so far? (If so, then he should be there now for her birthday.) Do you think that you could controll your emotions enough to go with him? (If so, that would keep both your man and his ex on the...

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for your question. But your situation gave me an idea. Ask to see, or ask your attorney to request copies of your ex-mother-in-law's income tax return. If she's not reporting the income, something's amiss.

Yes. HIV/AIDS exists among straight people, too. Look at the high rate of the virus in Africa and among IV drug users. We're all thankful, I'm sure, that the rate of infection among blood transfusion recipients has reduced so drastically since the early days after the virus' discovery.

I think the general tendency is to trust females over males in the child-care arena, but that is probably just because it is a more traditional job for women. Do your research: ask for references and contact them, be sure a center is licensed (some states require licensing for individual childcare givers as well) and check for...

Is someone being ignored for an indefinite time period after repeatedly lying to, criticizing and harassing a friend with calls and emails a good example of comeuppance? (I'm asking this on behalf of my girlfriend)

Is Holy Communion of no significance because a sinful minister served it?
I'm not Catholic and don't believe in Transubstantiation, so I can't speak to that side of this question. As a Protestant, I believe that Holy Communion is purely symbolic, i.e., the bread and wine represent the body and blood of Christ. Therefore, who serves it is of no importance. What matters is the heart of the recipient.

Do I have to report the price of merchandise that I sold on ebay as income on my Federal form 1040? Do I have to charge sales tax if the buyer lives in the same state as I do?
If you sell as an individual and not as a business, you pay federal tax only if you sell for more than you paid for a particular item, and then only on the difference. And, if you sell as an individual and not as a business, you would not collect sales tax.
If you are selling as a business, there is a whole different set of rules with which I am not familiar.

If you've ever been in a same-sex relationship, did/do you commit public displays of affection? If not, why? If so, how do people around you react? And if you're straight, how do you feel about gay PDAs? Why?
There seem to be areas where same sex PDA is acceptable, but far more where it is not. In the areas where it is not acceptable, I admit to feeling embarrassed, and don't want to offend the general public, but it makes me angry at myself to submit to the double standard. But what makes me even more angry is the fear that a PDA in the wrong place will actually place me in physical danger.

Regardless of your orientation, dating more than one person at a time is not cheating unless you tell one, or allow one to believe, that you consider the relationship to be monogamous.
Answer to:
Are there any signs a guy can look for to find out if a girl is "in the closet" or bi- sexual?
Pay attention to his habits to answer questions like these:
What movies and TV shows does he like?
Shows with predominently male casts (Oz, Entourage, Bachelorette), scantily clad or buff men (Gladiator, Survivor, men's gymnastics), or strong gay story lines (Will and Grace, Queer as Folk) MAY be an indication of latent or closeted desires.
Who does he look at and/or focus on when...

My guy friend told me and another friend of mine that he bought some sandles that were from the womens section. But they are so worn out that you can't tell that it came from the womens section. Everytime we ask (if he's gay)he rejects it. Is he?
Could it be that he bought the sandals just because he LIKED them? I think the answer might be "yes" because you said they're worn out to the point of being beyond gender identification.
Still not sure? There's one test you can use to know with certainty: walk behind him when he's wearing the sandals and watch his butt; does he swish when he walks?
One more...

My boyfriend is bi, I don't mind. But he enjoys gay porn a lot more than straight ones. He said he's happy with me and loves me the most but I'm worried he's just not satisfied with me since I'm a girl. Can anyone guide me out? I'm confused :'(
I suspect that by "gay porn" you mean guy on guy. I have two opinions to offer. First, have only "safer sex" with him, if any sex at all. If he's sleeping with other guys, he may bring home something you don't want. Second, guard your emotions carefully. In some cases, "bi" is the transition ground between straight and gay; the term one uses when not...

Do you as a gay ,les, bisex ,or transgender feel that because you are what you are that theres an obbligation or stereotype that you have to live up to?
You actually answered your own question when you used the phrase "you are what you are." I am who I am, not some one else's idea of what I should be. If who you are happens to match some one's stereotype, so be it. But living up to some one's stereotype just because you are who you are is just as silly as trying to live the straight life when, inside, you're gay.

I'm not a Christian, but live a good life. I don't lie, cheat, steal. I give to charity, try to help etc. Do Christians still think I'm going to hell?
Speaking as a Christian, I can say "Amen" to several earlier responses who cited scripture to support their beliefs. Jesus Himself said "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me." That sounds rather narrow and elitist, but it isn't, really.
Just before He died, Jesus also said "It is finished." I believe that,...

My daughter is turning one in 2 weeks.I wanted to get her a special daddy to daughter gift.what would you recommend I get her?
Sorry, friend, but, at 12 months, she is too young even to understand the concept of "birthday," let alone the idea of a "special" gift.
My suggestion is that you write how you feel about her, how wonderful your life has become since she came to be with Mommy and you, and how "special" she is to you. Sharing some of your hopes and dreams for her life may also be...

When Gawd commanded, "Thou shalt have no other gawds before me!" (Exodus 20:3) wasn't that an "admission" that "other gawds" do, in fact, exist? Why prohibit the worshipping of "other gawds," if there are none?
It is human nature to seek out something greater than ourselves. The "other gods" to which God referred were the result of that search. Idols were and are created to be the physical representations of mankind's mental creations. So, while it is true that the "other gods" do not exist in reality, they do exist in people's minds. And the mind of man should never...
