We have always tried to eat a bit after "regular" lunch time, around 1:30. We usually ask for a wakeup call, but I'm so groggy that I never know who or what is at the other end of the line... sometimes I answer the phone with "hello?" and wait, and wait, and wait for a reply... Still looking for that hotel with the french maid bringing us coffee and biscuits in the morning... "good morning you two, here are your muffins..." +3

Answer to:
Why do people dislike their spouses parents?
I think that generally, if there is any animosity, it's because many parents feel that the chosen spouse isn't GOOD enough for their children. Perhaps it's because of regrets or self doubts they themselves have, thinking that the grass is greener elsewhere. With more than six billion people on the planet, the odds are likely that there is always going to be someone better suited...

My rule of thumb is, if somebody is performing a service for you, it is generally appreciated to tip them. This is regardless of how much they are getting paid, or how much else they do. If they are doing something for me (like bringing me food, drinks, my car, my bags, etc.) I generally say thank you with a tip. And I always try to smile and thank them. Why does fruit taste better at room temperature?
The phenolic compounds (aromas) that are released by the fruit are more readily percieved by our olfactory bulb and taste buds when they are warmer. Sugars are also more perceptable if they are warmer. We tend to shut down our sense of taste/smell when we consume something cold. (If it's anything like wine perception). Just a guess...

What old fashioned things do you remember from the 1970s such as the coal lorry coming to your house
I remember the milk being delivered in glass bottles in the sixties, and party lines on the phone at grandma's in the seventies. Grandma also had a wringer washer that rolled out and hooked up to the sink, and we had propane wall heaters that you had to light at night. Oh yeah, and it was a glorious day when the "loo" was plumbed into the out building next to the main house!

What is the significance of the Teapot Dome Scandal?
If I remember correctly (doubtful) it involved payoffs to high ranking government official(s) for big oil reserve leases, not allowing competitive bids. Competitors were driven off the leased lands by our military. And when it was uncovered, the range and depth of the corruption led to considerable reform regarding the acceptance of compensation by elected officials. (And ruined the political...

I used to run a small window A/C unit in the afternoons, pulling air east to west, spray a mist of cool water over the house and around the front porch in the evenings, keep the windows on the east side open at night, west side in the morning. If we could manage to drive through a few apple orchards, without getting shot, we might be lucky enough to cross a bridge, or else end up, up ended in the irrigation canal, 30 feet wide or so. Got a TEE intersection North/South about a quarter mile west, down our road.

My mother swears that if she fills up with gas and people are sitting in the car that this somehow affects how much gas goes into the tank. What can I do to convince her this is not true? I'm tired of standing outside the car looking stupid when with her.
I don't THINK that the weight inside the car makes any difference regarding the fuel capacity of the tank. The capacity of the tank is a fixed amount, variable only by denting it (a very difficult thing to do) or by heating or cooling the metal. But while on the subject of heating and cooling, it is possible to get "more" gas in your tank if you fill up in the early morning, when...

If you heard gunshots while you are walking home in a busy street, what is the safest thing to do?
Dunno, we don't HAVE a busy street near home. Gunshots usually mean that the birds are in the cherry orchard across the street, or next door, or on the hillside to the west, or in the grape vines to the east, or our grapevines out back, HELL, during fruit season it's a damn war zone around here!!! Classical music lovers, of these three, do you prefer Mozart, Vivaldi, or J.S. Bach?
To me all of Vivaldi is merely variations on a theme (The 4 seasons revisited), Bach is grand if you can listen to pieces done on a HUGE pipe organ, probably the most dramatic of the three composers mentioned, but for sheer variety and the ability to show his genius in so many ways, Mozart is my favorite. I also love Scarlatti harpsichord pieces, Beethoven Symphonies, and for pure waltz...

It probably has a lot to do with the tax and/or fees that the cruise ship companies have to pay to dock at the locations. if the coins were filed away on their sides, measure their height, if from their edges, you're screwed.
Answer to:
Is there more yeast in Red wine or white wine?
Usually yeast is settled, fined and/or filtered out of wine. One exception is Champagne style wine, where a small amount of yeast is left in the bottle when sugar is added to an already fermented wine, then disgorged later after it has carbonated the wine. A small amount of yeast usually remains in the bottle.

Can cheap wine also be good wine?
Seems that people think that winning medals is an indication of quality, or price is an indication of quality, or even (God forbid) high point scores by a "wine critic" is an indication of quality. The bottom line is, do you enjoy the wine? If you enjoy it, its good, if your friends enjoy it thats even better. If they don't, thats the best, cause there's more for you next...

If its still foaming, thats a good sign. When I was homebrewin, I wouldn't put a lid on my primary fermenter until the initial fermentation had subsided a bit. Then the lid and airlock would go on. When you buy a product from a retailer (not directly from the company), what factors go into determining how much money the company receives from the sale? So, if you want to best support a particular company...?
I think you're asking what determines wholesale to retail markup. That would be the market as determined by consumers. Otherwise, the producer determines their wholesale price based on what the market will bear. If you want to support a particular manufacturer, buy direct, or contact them and ask for a list of preferred retailers.

Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region are renowned. Don't scrimp, but don't go overboard either. Cloudy Bay is kinda a flagship wine. What is the best Champagne?
Just to clarify, Dom Perignon is one of the "brands" (cuvee`) that Moet & Chandon produce. The bestest Dom, from the bestest vintages only, is Dom Perignon Oenothique. Pricey, and worth it! Keep it for 25 - 30 years. Dom Perignon rose` is great for a special, special occasion.
Answer to:
What is the best Champagne?
Veuve Cliquot's Grand Dame is pretty darn good stuff, but Dom, Rose` is tasty. Perrier Jouet Le Fleur is stand out! I think my latest favorite was a 1990 Tattinger Comtes de Champagne. Gotta go without food, fuel and fun for a while, but vintage bubbles are worth finding an excuse to enjoy life!
Answer to:
True that placing a spoon in a champagne bottlr will keep it 'bubbly'? anyone know about this?
Uh, don't think so. How do you fold it up to get it in there? The second best thing to do is buy a champagne stopper. That would be to enjoy the entire bottle with friends that appreciate your efforts.!

Can you recommend a book that you absolutely loved, and think everyone should read? I'm looking for fiction, or at least very entertaining books. Please don't suggest the bible- I've already read that.
Flat out, How to Win Friends and Influence People. The world would be a better place... yada, yada, yada. Also, I really liked Illusions by Richard Bach.
