Hissing was likely gas. Sounds like something's screwed up - Kind of like when a lighter goes all "crack ligher" on you. I wouldn't mess with it anymore and get someone to fix it before it gets stuck like that one time. Of course if you smell gas when it ain't on, get out and call emergency gas people.

Aim for the steepest hill. People have fallen from planes onto hills and lived - I forgot if they got slowed down by some tree branches and stuff, but lived nonedaless. A nice steep muddy hillside should do the trick. Ask someone to water it down real good before you do it though.

It is a bet that a stock will fall. A lot of people are suspicious about the abnormal increase of put option purchases of United and American Airlines just before 911.
The opposite is a call option - a bet that a stock will rise.
Of course, why they are "bets" on the rising or falling of stock needs more explanation, but this should tide him over for now.
