Answer to:
Which of the following would disturb you the LEAST if your child(ren) were involved in it?
I "dabbled" in things like the occult since I was in grade school, and I think I turned out pretty ok. I see nothing wrong with meditations or "spells" just as I see nothing wrong with praying. Basically they're the same thing. The only time it can get dangerous is when the intent toward somewone is dangerous, especially if that person does not deserve to be harmed.

Christmas family gathering?
I've decided that I'm no longer going to waste the day celebrating a holiday that I don't believe in or spending time with people I cannot stand. Period.
Answer to:
Should you say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays”?
Unless I know for a fact that someone is Christian, I say "Happy Holidays" because I feel this encompasses everyone. And why is Christmas always at the forefront? Whatever happened to Happy Chanukah?
Answer to:
Is There a "War on Christmas"?
Only to certain Christians. Not everyone is a Christian and not everyone celebrates Christmas, so Happy Holidays is perfectly appropriate. This is all about power and control, and nothing to do with Christ.

Is gay commitment allowed? What are your beliefs?
Not sure I understand your question - are you referring to commitment ceremonies or civil unions? I think many gay couples opt for that as opposed to marriage. I've met straight couples who got married at city hall and they're doing just fine.
Answer to:
Do you believe gay marriage should be stopped to respect the separation of State from Church? After all, marriage is a religion fiasco is it not?
Gay marriage should be SUPPORTED to respect the separation of church and state, since marriage is a RELIGIOUS fiasco.
Answer to:
Do you think gay marriage should be legal? Why or why not?
Most of the oppostion to same sex marriage has a religious slant, namely Christian for the most part. This is an issue for the individual conscience, even if religion does play a part. In such a case, it's a private affair between the persons and their God. It's NOT the government's business.
Answer to:
Should the U.S. Legalize Marijuana?
Noone is claiming that marijuana "cures" any disease or has no health risks. Tobacco and alcohol have serious health risks, as we all know, yet people consume these regularly and are often addicted. The so-called War on Drugs has been raging for 30+ years now and the only thing that's changed is how much more money is being spent on waging it year after year. We have more important things to...

I came to AB to have fun, so it's possible that I didn't notice the "announcement" that the times they would be a'changin. Although it is demographically, is the United States a Christian nation? Should it be?
No, and why is this debate still going on? If the "founding fathers" had wanted to establish the USA as a Christian nation, they had every opportunity to state just that. They did not. Many of them were racist and hypcrites, but they also recognized what can happen when church and state are one.

How come sometimes you can ask a great question on here and nobody is interested to answer it? Then somebody asks a rubbish question that a 5 year old could have thought of and every Tom, Dick and Harry answers it and they get +300 for it, I don't know.
I gave you points just for using the word rubbish. Questions that are general in nature get more responses because more people can relate. Once you start getting "heady" only certain people will answer. Anyone who's been on AB for any length of time has been through it; don't sweat it. :)

Depending on the method you use, the spontaneity can get screwed. Also, some people are allergic to spermicides and/or latex and can become irritated by them. What feminine virtues (if any) are uplifted by shows like Bridezillas, Bad Girls Club, or Girls Gone Wild? Are women any more respectworthy because of these? If not, why are feminist and women's lib groups silent about them?
Arguably, men set the societal standard for what virtues are, so to say that the shows you mention should have any effect on women's respectworthiness is not really fair. Bad behavior is bad behavior, but the sexual double standard makes it ok for men to behave as badly as they like with no consequences. As far as feminist groups being silent about them, well there is a book out there...

Ladies, what man would you prefer to be approached by, one who is noticeably fit and dressed in jeans and sneakers or one that obviously does nothing to improve his physique but is impressively dressed and in style?
Fit guy dressed in jeans and sneakers. He's casual but he takes care of himself. Clothes do NOT make the man! :)

I believe that it's sometimes necessary if the woman finds herself unwillingly pregnant and does not want to carry the pregnancy to term. I also believe that it should be legal. I also believe that it's one choice, but not the only choice. But ultimately, it's the woman's choice.

Can you name a band that "sold out"?
As much as I dislike that term, I'll say METALLICA (And they will say, "Yes, every night."). When a band is new, they're more honest. When they become popular they have to change their style if they want to maintain their popularity and make the big bucks. Not to say that a band shouldn't try new styles or sounds or whatever, but when you alienate your true fans that...

Does anyone else think that the term "Agnosticism" does an injustice to Atheists, as it makes Atheists sound absolutely certain there is/are no God(s)?
I personally do not think that. Agnosticism is looked upon by some atheists as cowardice or a cop-out because it doesn't commit to either belief or non-belief. I do think, however, that agnostics are judged less harshly because they only doubt, and many believers have their doubts at one time or another. Atheists stand firm in their non-belief and that is unsettling to a lot of people.

Well, since I don't know anyone who has been to either placed and lived to tell the tale, it's difficult to answer that question. Besides, as far as hell is concerned, most of our images of it come from art and literature, which is the personal interpetation of the artist. How can women believe in the word of God when he is so blatantly anti-female?
I asked the same question many times over the years, but these days my view is that since what we "know" about God is largely from books written by men, we can conclude that men put words/deeds/actions into God's mouth (and other parts). The word of God is therefore the word of men; men who wanted to control women and other men as well. I neither believe it nor accept it so I...

As my mother and grandmother always used to say, "it's all about faith." You are not a bad person for not believing, you are a good person who thinks beyond what you've been taught. Absolutely! Remember that while sex can be an expression of love, the two are not the same. He was probably just having his fun and never really felt a connection with anyone else before he met you. I understand your concern, but don't analyze it. Make the most of your time together and show him why he made the right choice in YOU.

Not sure if there's a specific American belief - any "taboos" surrounding menstruation have more of a religious tone. Since so many claim that America is a "Christian" nation, there would be the place to start, although the first thing that comes to mind is Leviticus, which is from the Torah.

I'll assume you can't learn both. As an old school rocker chick, I'd say learn the Bass. It's an oft overlooked instrument in favor of the guitar, but it represents rhythm, the very foundation of any good song. My personal favorite Bass player of all time is Led Zep's John Paul Jones. Ironically, he's a keyboardist first! Good luck!

Wherever you like! But seriously. Go for a walk together in a local park; ride on the swings, slide down the slide, hang on the monkeybars. Sorry to give a vague answer, but it really depends on the situation, where I'm at, etc. Most of the time I'm ok with it, and maybe for a few minutes it's cute, but then it can get annoying.

Women: Do you like the size of your breasts?
At this point in my life, yes. I've always been small breasted and very self conscious for many years because of it. It was only after I realized that I was letting someone else's view interfere with my own opinion of myself and my own pleasure that I was able to accept my small breasted self. Hell, I don't even wear a bra, and my large breasted friends ENVY me. :)

You make a very good point. No cigarette ads but lots of beer/wine ads and a whole lotta others that can contribute to addictions and health issues. Bottom line, people will do these things regardless of whether or not they see an ad on tv. I say leave it as is.

Confidence and cockiness are two separate things. Confidence is when you simply don't give a shit because you KNOW you are hot and sexy and don't need the spotlight on you everywhere you go. Save the COCK(INESS) for a time and place where you can back it up! :)

I've always loved the idea of vampires for the sheer sexiness, dark allure and power of them. I'm kinda bored with them now due to the fact that they're so mainstream, especially in fiction, most of which I find lame as fuck. TRUE BLOOD is the exception.

If god exists because the bible says so and the bible is true because god says so, is it the same as saying god exists because god says he exists? But we dont know that he exists?
I think we humans just have a natural inclination to want to connect to something "higher" than or outside of ourselves. Throughout our history natural surroundings and occurences have been attributed to a diety or force of some sort. It makes it easier to explain or understand things we can't or don't want to comprehend. The idea that a god is not responsible for any of...

I live in one of several countries where there is universal health care paid for by our taxes. Why is there such an unholy furor in the U.S. about a governmental plan to provide this coverage to all its citizens?
I asked an almost similar question once. The general consensus seems to be that either doctors won't be able to charge the fees that they want or that the "lowest of the low" will become doctors and the care will then be substandard. I personally think it's more about greed than anything else.

It's similar to people of color making racist comments. No excuses, of course, but it's learned behavior. One could argue that religion in general doesn't make sense, but as Mrs. Cleaver and others have pointed out, sometimes people mean to say spiritual. Others may see spirituality as their religion or equate belief in a deity or some other higher power or force with being religious. Others simply throw the word around for their own benefit or as a way of elevating themselves over others.

Why do a lot of people who are atheists and even some agnostics seem so antagonistic against religious people, especially Christians?
The answers to that are as varied as why religious people are often antagonistic toward atheists/agnostics. For some, it's because they grew up in a time when they were not allowed or able to live openly as atheists, or they were forced to practice a particular religion as children and are suffering the effects from that. Some others simply don't like religious people or are tired of...

I have a tattoo on the back of my neck. Someone said it was dumb because no one can see it... but it isn't for show it is for a personal reason. Do you believe all tattoos are for show? Why or why not.
Tattoos are for show if you WANT them to be. I'm about 75% covered with tattoos but my arms are usually the only ones that are seen. I got my first ones on my arms so that I could see them, then started moving around on my body. The best reason to get a tattoo is because YOU WANT IT. Why is it that when I introduce my partner to people, I sometimes get accused of talking about my sex life (when I never say a word about that), while my sister can introduce her husband to people and she never gets that reaction?
Because many people look at homosexuality strictly in terms of the kind of sex you have, and because homosexuality is considered an "abomination/sin/abnormal" while heterosexuality is considered NATURAL, and it's assumed that she's doing her "wifely" duty. Nothing against your sis, of course. :)

Polly Math, I'm beginning to think that you and I share a mind - you ask the kinds of questions I do. Anyway, there were many people I thought I hated, but it was more like INTENSE DISLIKE BROUGHT ON BY INTENSE ANGER. I think that men project their own "weaknesses" onto women in this type of situation. Many men cannot be "just friends" with a woman because the sexual attraction gets in the way, so they assume that it's the same for women. The Church of Satan official website, and then The Legion of Loki, which is an offical Grotto of COS. I'm finding new links all the time.

Why do you get looked down on if you are not politically correct these days?
Because of militant thinking, mostly from the left. We've become a nation of over-sensitive wimps, wussies and outright PUSSIES! Everyone seems to forget that FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IS A RIGHT! I may not like what someone has to say, but I'm also free to ignore them or walk away. If it becomes PHYSICAL, then by all means, I will defend myself.

Do you ever think that people on welfare are just too lazy to find a job?
This is one of many dicey issues in this country. I believe that yes, some people do abuse the system. It was originally meant to be a hand-up, not a hand-out, but over time it's become a LIFESTYLE for some people. Some on welfare do need the hand-up and are taking steps toward getting off of it, and all the best to them. Those just taking and not giving back will be their own downfall...
