As an educator, this is a question I often ponder. The standardized tests we use now to "measure" how much kids are learning were different 20 - 30 years ago. How can we objectively compare the two? Kids today are also more likely to come from hectic home environments where both parents work...

Is she a young cat? Mine started out only eating if I was sitting right there, but as they have aged they stopped needing me around to eat. Maybe if you moved brother's food bowl to another room and taught him to only eat there it would help her to feel more at ease?

You need a non-slip rug pad. They are usually sold a stores that sell area rugs, home improvement stores, and stores like Target, Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond . . . You put it under the area rug to prevent it from moving, and to protect the floor underneath from friction marks.

I know the feeling [although when I do this it is usually because I am depressed about something else and just projecting it into all aspects of my life.] Anyway, STOP thinking about the negative stuff ASAP. Make an effort to switch/direct your thoughts to something positive. It takes A LOT...

My new cats aren't allowed outside [although they do catch and eat bugs and spiders, ick.] My old cat used to hunt, he brought rabbits, moles, mice, and birds. He ate the heads and saved the rest for us, my [then] boyfriend had bought a steamcleaner just to deal with the stains.

It is rude to anyone who didn't grow up with a cellphone. Many people in the 23 or younger group find that carrying on two or three conversations at one time to be normal. The times they are a changing.
