There was no wind on the Moon. The flag stuck out because of a metal rod holding up the top and it appeared to be waving because the astronauts moved it around as they planted the flag and because there was no air it continued to swing like a pendulum until the friction within the fabric caused it to stop.

Are American houses really built out of wood like they seem in the movies? Does that mean you could break into one simply by shoulder charging the wall & crashing through? Additionally, has anyone done this?
Yes they are made of wood, and you could probably break your way through an interior wall with your bare hands if you went at it for long enough, so long as you don't hit a stud, plumbing or wiring. But you couldn't go through with one shoulder charge and you would definitely need tools to break through an exterior wall because of the plaster and chicken wire.

If it's over-the-counter stuff you're talking about, go a head and stop taking them unless your symptoms are causing you to lose sleep or to have unbearable discomfort. If it's prescribed antibiotics, take them! Follow directions! Finish the bottle (unless the prescription says otherwise)! Stop the proliferation of drug-resistant strains!

If I wanted to teach myself to play a brass instrument in hopes of playing ska11 months from now, what should I pick? Sound v. ease of play.
I would say euphonium because it has a large mouthpiece. It also requires less air and is easier to carry than a tuba, although it still is a bit big. If you want to go for portability, you should go for trumpet. The range may be a bit harder, but you probably won't need to play above a high G, which you should be able to handle in 11 months. Just remember to practice at least 4 hours a...

What's the slowest speed an airplane can go when taking off?
Really depends on the plane. A Cessna Skyhawk takes off around 60 knots (70 mph [111 kmh]), and a 747 takes off at about 180 knots (207 mph [333 kmh]). An ultralight can probably take off at even slower speeds, and VTOL like Harrier Jump Jet or an F-35 can take off at 0 knots (0 mph [0 kmh {this conversion was very necessary]).

(It could be someone you know personally, a celebrity, a politician, a historical figure; anyone.)
Well the obvious choice would be Hitler, but I'm not sure how much that would have helped. The conditions in Germany during the twenties were terrible. Some other dictator would have taken over instead, maybe with the one difference of being a communist instead of a fascist. It's no coincidence that almost every country in Europe had been taken over by a dictator by the beginning of...

Answer to:
What are some good techniques for climbing on a mountain bike?
At the beginning of your ride you should use really low gears so you have a high leg speed and you get a good warm-up. After you're all warmed up, depending on the steepness and length of the hill, you should start using some of the lower gears in your middle chain ring. It may seem harder at first, but in the long run, you'll find that using the highest gear you can comfortably use...

Answer to:
How should I use the front and rear brakes? Together? One more than the other?
You should use the front brake more than the back. The reason is that as you work against momentum your weight moves forward and since your center of gravity is above the point where you contact the ground (unless you're riding a strange bike on equally strange terrain) you rotate forward and put less pressure on the back wheel and more on the front. So the harder you brake with the back...

Answer to:
What caused you last bicycle crash, and how could you have prevented it?
I was in the middle of a race and I was dismounting for a sand pit, and my pants snagged on my seat. My momentum from the dismount was going to the left, and now because of the snag my feet weren't where they were supposed to be so I just tipped over. Luckily, because I was in a sand pit the fall wasn't bad at all.
I'm not really sure how I could have prevented that.
Edit:...

Are the those pictures of space taken by the hubble telescope really real? Those pictures are so magnificent. Did they add color to the pictures to enhance them? How could anything man made really see that far into space and get that good of pictures?
They are real and unaltered. I have seen a nebula through a light telescope (which could not have been altered) and it was an intense shade of green. It was pretty tiny though. But the Hubble telescope has a much larger mirror and is outside of the Earth's atmosphere, so it would have much better magnification and clarity.

Neither. They are a misunderstanding. Area 51 is an experimental aircraft testing area. At one point there were many UFO sightings and a while later the USAF came out with the B-2, which looked identical to the UFO sighted earlier.
Here is a picture of a B-2 which, if unfamiliar, would look like alien air/spacecraft.

Physics says that heat rises, life teaches us that we loose most of our heat through our heads. If we all walked upside down on our hands, would we retain the heat, or would our feet be warmer?
Two things:
(1)Heat doesn't rise, hot fluids rise (both liquids and gases are fluids).
(2)You lose the most heat from your head because it gets more blood than any other body part.
Also, warm blood in your body wouldn't necessarily rise because it's constantly being pumped.

How does gas make a car move?
Gas flows from the fuel tank and is mixed with air and pumped into a metal cylinder. A piston at one end of the cylinder compresses the gas-air mixture and a spark plug ignites it causing a small explosion. This pushes the piston back out which turns the crankshaft. As the crankshaft turns, it pushes pistons into other cylinders with enough leftover energy to turn a series of gears and shafts...

There's a reason why it's there, and it's not so people can just go around trolling. I think downratings are appropriate when there is a question asking for facts (i.e. Why do cats purr?) and someone gives an incorrect answer (because they're farting). For an incorrect answer if it's at or below -1 I leave it alone, and if it's at or above 0 I rate it down as close...

At the first day of summer how many miles a day does the earth move away from the sun in the northern hemispere?
It depends on the latitude. In the tropics you would move towards the sun for a while before moving away again (at the equator you wouldn't start moving away until the fall equinox). At the north pole you would move away much faster than the rest of the world. This is only taking into account the seasonal effect of the tilt of the Earth's axis and not the eccentricity of its orbit.

< means angle
<A is three times <B, so <A = 3x, <B = x

Their combined sociopathic energies, with no outlet due to the fact that we no longer pay attention to them, would build up until the imbalance would cause an explosion, with an epicenter somewhere in the Beverly Hills area, with just the right resonant frequency so when the shock wave reaches the other side of the world, it would cause an implosion resulting in a chain reaction that would form...

If you dug down into the Earth would the effect of gravity get less the deeper you went?
The closer you get to the surface of the earth, the stronger the gravity becomes. So as you go out into space, gravity would decrease because of the distance between you and earth. The deeper you dig, the weaker gravity becomes because the part of the earth above you would also pull on you.

I got real tired of the all the trolls and sheeple on YA so I came on over here. Does anyone want to show me around? It looks like a awesome site but a little more complicated then I'm used to. Anything I should know to help maximize my experience? Thank
First of all, there is a limited number of characters you can use. If you are responding to another answer, submit your response as a comment to that answer. Don't post you response in another answer or (god forbid) a new question. This will just confuse people and result in down ratings. the rest is pretty straight forward.

It depends on the flight. I don't think they actually adjust their course to avoid the Bermuda triangle.
P.S. Your Puerto Rico example doesn't exactly work because you never said where from. On a flight from San Fransisco or Mexico City, they would have to go out of their way to fly through.

If you folded your laundry before you put it away, then you would only need to pull out two to get a pair.
There are 10 red pairs and 10 blue pairs, so that means there are 20 red gloves and 20 blue gloves making 40 in total. So you would have to take 21 if the gloves are left and right handed, or 3 if they're ambidextrous. You have a 19 in 39 (slightly less than half) chance of getting...

The different forms of refined petroleum in crude oil are only mixed, not chemically bonded, and all have different boiling points. So they heat it up just enough so one form evaporates and gets collected in a second tank, after that, it is heated a little more so a second form of petroleum evaporates and goes into a third tank etc.

- is this possible to cut a nerve when trimming toenails? what should I do to ease the pain while it grows out?
It is possible to cut a nerve, but only if you miss and get your toe. If you're only trimming the nail you won't cut a nerve, and you shouldn't experience any pain unless you trim part of the pink part. If you didn't do that either it could be an ingrown toenail.

Also the X-24A. It was used to experiment with the idea of lifting body design. It was rocket propelled and launched from the wing of a B-52. It looked like something from a '50s sci-fi.
