Why in democratic society all entitlement schemes must be Ponzi schemes? [Hint : try to put yourself in the shoes of and think like Mr. Ponzi]
Money, it's all about money. If someone is willing to be duped, someone will figure out a way to dupe them; been going on for ages. Street merchants in ancient Greece even sold tickets for passage on vessels that they either did not own or did not even exist! So "they" are talking about how raising the sales tax on cigarettes will deter more people from smoking. Do you think this will actually work in decreasing the number of people who smoke?
Probably not, it just takes more disposable income from Smokers and transfers it to the government and out of the economy. The displacement of revenue by any government puts the populace in ruin. In time, as our economy worsens and we become a third rate economy due to the destruction of our economy and, more importantly, the US Dollar, the government may realize this :-)

It does ... IF you consider freedom happiness. That's all money gives you freedom; the freedom to do anything and go anywhere at anytime for anyreason. That has been my experience. My car is financed to me and my ex husband. After the divorce my husband (the co-signer) refuses to take his name off the car. Can I remove my name and make the car his problem so I can get a new one in just my name?
That is a question for the finance company but it is not as simple as just "taking him off". Typically you and he hold the title, and the finance company holds the lien based on the credit of both of you. In order to clear the lien, you must satisfy it, i.e., pay it off, then it clears the title, then you can retitle the car.
.
In your circumstance, you can go to the finance...
Answer to:

One is the main carrier, CHL, traded on the NYSE (a VERY liquid market place) and the other, CHLKF is the Hong Kong spin off traded on the OTCBB or the "Pink Sheets" they used to call them. Very illiquid and dangerous place to play around ... don't get value trapped by a stock that is just cheap in price; leverage will kill you on the downside alot faster than it will help you...

How much money is enough in retirement?
Depends on lifestyle and other factors like if you plan to travel in retirement, etc.
If it costs $50K per year for this, say to maintain the house, paying the taxes, insurance, electric, cable, a cruise a year, a new car every ten years, etc. and you plan to retire at 65 and live for 30 years, then it's about $800K needed over the 30 year period, assuming no inflation.

Who should move out of the house, the cheater, or the cheated? she wants her independance, some of the cheating happened at the residence. she does not want anything of ours. she wants me to move out our stuff and find storage for it.
The cheater goes OR whoever owns the house stays.
In this case, if she doesn't want anything, then get on down the road girl! How stupid is it to stay, move everything out, and pay storage just so she can stay in an empty place! Just get a NEW place, that's empty already, and pay no storage ... what, about $3K per year or something?!

Do Federal income taxes favor the retention of earnings over the distribution of earnings.
Depends, but it is pretty much controlled via deductions. IRA's/401K is not taxed until redemption, so they inspire savings. The purchase of equipment brings with it depreciation deductions, so this inspires spending. Overall however, there are more deductions for spending than saving :-) We are but cogs in the machine of government meant to be dutiful little vessels of consumption :-)...

Answer to:
What causes the difference im temperature of gas and terrestrial planets
I would say gravity which depends on the radius/density of the planet. The smaller the diameter (ie the Moon), the less gravity in effect. The greater the diameter (ie the Earth) the greater the force of gravity, therefore the greater the compression on items therein, even gas. Pressure can increase and decrease temperature, so changes in pressure would change temperature ... just my guess :-)
Answer to:

Yes, as it all comes down to decisions and outcomes. The trouble is, the way you want or feel to act is not always the action that will generate the best most conducive outcome towards happiness. Should term limits be abolished for the President of the United States?
I'm sure they will be soon :-) Term limits is a JOKE anyway ... all politicians are career criminals ... they just move to another type or level of corruption: from city to county to state to federal, etc. Term limits should be for the life of the individual, not related to a specific office held. There is no way to say but yes, it is always easier to get over someone else when you have a new distraction to keep your mind off the pain. Eventually, however, it comes back in some way but WHEN ... well, that's an unknown really, varies by individual. My girlfriends typically come back anywhere from three months to a year later after a breakup so the time varies.

If the system is not seeing the dual monitor option, then the card is not seeded properly.

There is no such thing as recession proof because even if sales are steady or increase, you have the deflationary aspect of lowering prices to meet consumer price demand. Nevertheless, on this particular industry, in my opinion, we have reached the end of the technology spectrum.
I believe technology, for the next decade, will move sideways and enhance products, not crete anything new....

Probably because the equality movement has been, at times, hijacked by the more aggressive and radical within the group in an effort to foster their agenda. Read authors who write in a style you prefer. The more you read, the easier it will flow from your fingertips. Once you have good examples via many, many books in your mind about styles and methods, you can start to build your own style and method.

If you fell to the centre of the earth( thioreticly) say through a tube from surface to surface. would you fall only to the centre, with a gradual holt or have a bungie efect. hope you know what i mean .!
Well, since F=mg, where F is the Force pulling on a weight of an object of object m, mass at g, the force of gravity, the Force pulling on you at the center of the earth would be zero since your mass/weight would be zero becuase there is no gravity at the center of the earth.
Therefore, your momentum would move you past the center of the earth until your mass/weight began to be acted on...

True or false? Subtraction really doesn't exist.
Absolutely true. For that matter, division does not exist either. Subtraction is mearly the addition of a negative number and division is just the multiplcation of a fraction.
So, at its most simple level, mathematics is all about addition and multiplication and if you say multiplication is just the repeated use of addition, it's all about addition :-P

“The error of youth is to believe that intelligence is a substitute for experience, while the error of age is to believe experience is a substitute for intelligence”

It's 12:30 at night, and the neighbors decided to blast their bass music so loud my house is shaking. I want to call the police on them, but I don't want to call 911 (it's not an emergency). Is it a good idea to call the police station?
Why not ... my neighbors call on me if I'm on the phone talking in the back yard at 12:30 at night. I would prefer they call me or come over and actually ask me to be quiet, but hey, if you're paying $20K a year in property taxes, I guess you want to put your tax dollars to work!!

Yeah, they have developed this already. The only one I know of (I think Japan has a few as well) is the LIMPET (Land Installed Marine Powered Energy Transformer) by Wavegen and is located on the island of Islay in Scotland.
I think the water rolls up onto plates on the incoming wave, then rolls down into channels that then trun a generator, something like 200 Kw.

"A car runs because it has gas, a car does not run therefore it does not have gas?"
Your major premise has a flaw. It should be:
A car with gas will run.
The car does not run.
The car is out of gas.
This is true.
Saying,
"A car with gass will run", in a syllogistical major premise and is agreed upon as true.
SO ... you are saying that is the ONLY dependant aspect of the car running. There are NO other factors that can enter into the situaion.

Yeah, cook them on the stove, or, if you MUST use a microwave, cook them on a lower power setting for longer. When you take something cold, and start vibrating the molecules so quickly, with so much energy, as a microwave does on high, you're bound to have them release in some way. Try 50-60% power for 3-4 minutes instead of high for 1 minute.

Have you ever felt the need to hit someone for something they said to you?
Yes, I was behind about three strokes in a golf game and I missed a critical put and the guy I was playing laughed when it hung up just inches from the cup and said, "Ha Ha" ... in a stupid voice. I wanted to put my putter into his temple ... yes, golf can do this to you.
I won the game in the end, he had a nice blow up hole shooting a 10 on a par four and I said inside my head,...

Funny you should ask, here's an excerpt from my jounrnal on the subject of a breakup some time ago:

Why is 0/0 is undefined?
If you must define it, you could say it is one because there is one zero in zero or nothing goes into nothing only once ... LOL!
I personally believe that anything divided by zero should be zero. If you have something, it can not have any quantity of nothing (unless the something you have is a relationship of some type :-) so zero into anything would be zero or, more appropriately, null....

Hybrid cars in the U.S., what is the advantage to ME, to buy one?
Depending on what you buy, there may be tax incentives or deductions for purchasing. If you get a $5K deduction off your taxes, then that saves you about $1750 or so in tax money so factor that in. I'm not sure if they still offer tax incentives, but that is where you actually break even. Hybrids, too, are only relevant if you're doing alot of city driving. Better off getting a...

Depending on the carrier or the phone, it will be cached until sent. Sometimes the phone stores it in the outbox, like your email does, and it does not deliver it until it gets confirmation from the switch that it can be delivered. Otherwise, it sits on the server at the switch and keeps trying to deliver it until it gets confirmation from the phone. Either way, its delayed, but delivered :-)

I find if I give it a year or two and recycle them, it's kind of a new experience! You kind of remember the plot line, but you seem to take more away from it after the second viewing after a long break between! I do it all the time ... now I just rip them to a hard drive and watch them whenever!

I've been giving my all to benefit someone in my life, but I feel I'm not getting anything in return - I feel so drained, what do I do?
You have two options.
A] Keep doing
B] Stop.
If you do B, then things change, it's over with 100% certainty.
If you do A, you can either talk about it or not talk about it.
If you do not talk about it, nothing will change.
If you do talk about it, something MIGHT change.
So, you have three possible outcomes.
Stop = 100% gaurantee of change
Keep on, no talking = 0%...

Whats the time taken for the Suns rays to fall on the earth?
About eight minutes.
The sun is 150 million kilometers (93.2 million miles) away and light travels at 299,792,458 mps and since D = rT, then:
150,000,000,000 m = 299,792,458 * T
T = 500.36 seconds or 8.3 mins to be precise
So basically, if the sun blowed up, we would not know it until 8.3 mins later!

1) Do not borrow money from anyone nicknamed, "The Knife" or "The Shovel"
2) Do not cut of vehicles in traffic whose windows are solid black with chrome rims and the trunk scraping on the ground.
3) I do not antagonize anyone from Chicago.

Are lunatics born or made?
Both born and made! Some are born with genetic predisposion for lunacy and experience it or not and others are the result of their environment. Todays culture, for exmaple, makes a fine breading ground for lunacy and even greater, for insecurity!
It all depends on how strong your mind is over your will to stay "sane" ... again ... depending on your definition (a common theme of...

It's 2am here, I have to get up early, I need to sleep. I walked into my bedroom and immediately felt uncomfortable (like I was surrounded) and sick to my stomach. Call us crazy but we already know the house is haunted. How do I fix it so I can sleep?
Well, I'll tell you this, I used to work in an office after hours on computers years ago. Sometimes, I had the same feeling, like someone was behind me, hairs standing on the back of my neck, shadows where there was no light source, so I too have seen this. I don't know if I believe in ghosts or spirits, but when you experience this, it's strange and impossible to explain to...

Well, considering you would have to give birth (healthy) or lose a limb or something (unhealthy) it depends on how you are losing these 20 pounds.

I was premed, and chemistry or biology is best, depending on if you want to go into research or practice. I got out of the program after two years thuogh as it was too much damn paperwork in the hospital and there were WAY better looking women in the business college :-) Plus, medicine is a 25 year plan to get clear of school, pay your debts and start making money and that is a HUGE timeline...

I would recommend you do it before the inevitalbe paternity makes its way into her hands and after you have secured anything of value safely from harms way :-) But then again, our decisions define us and are inspired by our true motivations in their action. So, ultimately, this was probably just something that you needed in your life, in some bizarre and irregular way :-)

Jimmy Carter recently commented that George W. Bush's presidency has been the worst in American history. Do you agree with President Carter's statement?
You MUST agree, it is the thing to do and you are repeatedly told to believe this, so you MUST. It is in nearly every other headline, every other comedy routine, every other talk show, every other magazine cover and every other online posting. Nothing repeats like repetition.

Why does it seem no one knows what truth is anymore?
I think Henry Ford once said, "The truth is difficult, which is why so few people engage in it".
Besides, the truth really is just what you read in the headlines and the information the government gives to you right?
Funny, in the lobby of the CIA it says, "Know the truth, and the truth shall set you free". This, IMO, epitomizes the current nature of truth :-)

Technically, it could count as a run-on IMO. Better to say:
The decisions of all my yesterdays will hold me accountable for my actions today and help me to meet the responsiblities they instill in the future (you could say in all my tomorrows, but it's awkward, IMO).

I have a 2001 Grand Am. My tran. is shifting into gear really hard. It slams into reverse and into drive hard. It sounds and feels bad. If I dont figure this out soon, I am afraid I will have to replace trany soon.
A frequent reason for this is engine mounts. If they are loose or worn, the engine, when changing gears, shifts position under the hood rather hard and jolts the car. It's a hard item to install without a lift, but the parts are cheap, like under $100 I think. It's an easy thing to check, just open the hood and switch gears from D to R and have someone watch the engine. If it...

Because they don't spend any time in the kitchen, it's pretty basic:

We have internet, therefore,
We have no time in the kitchen.
Back in the day (when I was a kid) the women RULED the kitchen and were the best cooks, so men didn't even try and we all ate very well! Now, it's anybodys game!

Do you think richness will bring you abundant life?
"richness" ... do you mean wealth or money? If so then money does one thing for you, gives you freedom. How you apply that freedom is up to you! If applied well, then yes, you can be quite abundant!

"The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary. Men and women alone are quite capable of every wickedness." Joseph Conrad
The fact that society has been dominated by men until the last several hundred years is the only plausible explanation for this question. The simple fact is, every person is driven by the same motivations, man or woman, so no, women on the scene...

I drive a focus and have a bad vibration problem its at its worse doing 40-60 mph and especially when accelerating quickly through 3-5 gear the vibration seems to be coming from the front drivers, new alloys, tyres, brake pads & disc h
What year is it? If it's more than 3-4 years old, the engine mounts are probably bad. Alternatively, if you get a bad vibration on breaking, especially from 10-15 MPH to a complete stop, the front rotors are warped or should be turned at least and new pads installed.

Nope, not yet at least: what you see, is what you get! In five thousand years of recorded history, we have not changed. Of course, we only have an estimated seven billion years until the sun becomes a red dwarf and engulfs the...

Generations make a difference in the long run, but if it lasts, then it won't be a big deal. I myself was dating a girl 20 years younger, but with an "old soul" so-to-speak. How you look in public is unusual, for sure, but if it works, it works. In the long term, it becomes a wissom thing they admire and adore, but when they hit 30, the hands you play may be different and the...

If your ex really has no intentions of getting back into a relationship with you again but, still comes around now & then to say they love you & steal a few hugs & kisses what is the purpose of that if sex is not involved & they are with someone else?
This is a classic case of fear to move on. I am experiencing something of the same at present, and I think it's just old feelings of good times that make it hard to let go. It is beginning to be clear to me that the only way to remedy this is complete and total severance of all ties and communication. Time heals all wounds, as deep as they may be.

I am in this EXACT situation, and here's what I believe, though each circumstance may be different.

Your just timing out, that's a file/page not found error. Arrogance can be too convenient a term sometimes for behavior I find. There is a great difference, for example, between active and aggressive arrogance and a high degree of confidence. How does life progress? Does it get better, worse, stay the same?
Life is a function of attitude. If your attitude and your energy are strong, and your will and logic sound, then it is a constant and exciting journey into the unknown with hope and joy. Otherwise, it is the net result of what happens to you every day and you are at the mercy of times folly as you strive to rationalize the debacle before you :-)
Answer to:
When was the first time you felt old?
Never yet ... wise sometimes, but never old :-) I think "old" has more to do with social mores and chronology than emotional or physical effects. Living my life by the mantra of, "LEARN EVERY DAY" has insulated me from age ... having learned new things, on purpose every day has meant that age is not a factor, so I guess I'll feel old when I can't feed myself :-)

It is very simple. You are what you are because you CHOOSE to be that way. If it works, then fine, you are doing well, if it does not work, and you are getting negative results from your behavior, then you should consider adjusting yourself. Medication and therapy may work, but in the LONG RUN, it is YOU that must live with YOU ... and only YOU can change that. Depending on a therapist, or...

First and foremost, we, quite simply, as a nation, have a government we can NOT afford. This has happened to every great civilization. Once the government realizes, and capitalizes on the cash cow that is the power to tax, they gut the populace.
This is what led to nearly every...

What do you think of a man who tells 2 women he loves them yet flirts with every other female he knows?
Don't be a player hater ... LOL, just kidding!!
I would say he's just profoundly insecure.
Remember though, not all undsireable traits are bad, any more than everything that is beautiful is good (these are lessons from ancient Greece, b/t/w :-).
It can work to your advantage to be "the one" as those insecurities will be handed over to you and the bond that comes...

WHY are some people so cruel? I have CP. I forget I have it because to me, I'm normal. I went out & this guy who I've never seen was wasted & decided to call me a cripple, while his friends laughed. I could see if he hated me, but I've never met him
Do NOT take that garbage personally, it's not as much a comment about you as it is a complete testiment to HIM!
If his life is so meaningless and empty that he has to behave like that to other people, then you should pity him (some might say even pray for him) and hope that he someday finds meaning to his shallow and empty life, bereft of cooth or dignity or value of any kind.
You...

Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4, What does it say?
"We have always called for a long-term market peak and extended down turn to begin around the end of this decade -- and now we are approaching that point."
-- Harry S. Dent, Jr. "The Great Depression Ahead" (Free Press)
PS: It's not the "line" per say, but the sentance which includes the line; felt it relevant for a contextual point of view :-)

Answer to:
Would you try to be friends with an ex even if the relationship ended badly?
Its always a good idea to have people in your life who know you on levels beyond the ordinary; they're good sounding boards for things, I find.
Sometimes the honesty (or animosity in some cases) of the conversations can be frustrating, and downright insulting ... but if your skin is thick enough, and emotionally, it's over, then the honesty (from their perception of course) can...

When was the last time you had a $50 bill in your hand?
I carry them all the time, and actually prefer them to C-notes, they are much easier to break than 100's at most convenience stores :-P

My tooth is really reacting to heat. It is very sensitive if i drink something hot or eat something warm. What could that be?
Depends on if it is a tooth that has been filled already and if that filling is over 10 years old (silver based instead of porcelan). If it is tha told, or it's gray in color (if it is a filling) then it must be changed. The expansion and contraction of the metal from heat and cold causes pain on the nerve and eventually, will force you to change it. It is best, however, to change it...

When is the best time of year to plant st. augustine grass. all of mine died this past year with the drought and now i have mostly dirt in my backyard. and how do i go about planting it?
The more water, the better. So the rainy season, which is unfortunately mid-late summer is also the most hot in Florida, if that's where you live.
NO matter what though, and I have been through countless grass plantings and seedings, etc. There are really only four things you must do to gaurantee a beautiful lawn:
1) Buy sod as seeds do not grow into quality grass unless the soil...
Answer to:
What flowers can be given as a gift and also be planted?
Poinsettas are the best, and they grow very nicely if watered every day! I still have mine from many Christmas past!
Of course, I live on the water, so I have to keep them indoors as there are various animals that love to eat the petals!

Your little sister just got beat up by her boyfriend.....what would you do?
Depends on your personal beliefs and spiritual leaning.
If you are a Christian, and look to the Bible for guidance, then you have your choice: Turn the other cheek or an-eye-for-an-eye.
How you decide between these really comes down to, unfortunately in these United States, how much you have to lose and what you hope to gain.
If you can afford the potential and, most probably...

I just swallowed a small but powerful round magnet, will i die?
You'll be fine, and as an added bonus, you should be able to keep your keys handy until it passes (get it, you can just stick them on your stomach and they'll hang there)!
Seriously though, depending on the shape and composition of the entire object, you may be about to experience some pain on passing :-) If your stomach acid does not break it down completely, you may have a...

Are your online friendships real, or just more convenient because they do not require as much effort and less is asked of you?
I would say, honestly, since we have some level of anonymity here, that they fall into two basic categories: interesting friends and time-killer friends.
I think, on a deeper level, we have become a society built on three things: intrigue, utility and disposability. It's probably the consumerist nature that creeps into our interpersonal aspect of life as we are used to being excited...

Is it safe to eat steak with a sell by date of 4 days ago?
I do it all the time, and I have good reason to be careful! I have NEVER been ill from THIS but I did eat out at restaruant in NYC, "Ruby Foos" in August of 2004 (mind you, I hadn't eaten the entire day) and within 20 minutes of leaving the resaurant, I was throwing up and actually blacked out in the cab after getting tunnel vision (so these are the signs :-)!
After a couple...
