Answer to:
What is the shortest complete sentence in the English language?
English does not require a subject for the imperative case. If left out, the subject is generally understood to mean "you." Therefore, almost any one-word verb in the English language can become a grammatically correct one-word sentence when used as a direct command. (Examples: "Stop!" "Go!" "Speak." "Eat.")

Goodness... I didn't know there were places where pumping your own gas was illegal. I didn't even know there were still places around in the US that you DIDN'T have to pump your own gas. Everything around where I live (North Texas) is either 100% self service, or if there is an attendant, they probably would rather you do it yourself anyway. In my case, I pay at the pump, so...

Would you rather be called "hot" or "gorgeous"?
Gorgeous. That is pretty much limited to my appearance, and almost always in a tasteful way.
Hot could mean appearance -- or it could mean popularity, stamina, sexuality (tasteful or not). There are too many variables, and not all are good.
Of course, hot (in the literal sense) can also simply mean that I need to go sit in the shade with a tall glass of water.

Who speaks english with an accent, the americans or the british?
As already said, everyone has an accent. An accent is part of how we speak, and we all speak a certain way. It's simply that we don't generally notice our own accent or those whose are similar. It sounds "normal" to us because we are used to it.
Naturally, British accents (there are several, not just one) would stand out most to Americans. American accents (there, again,...

It sounds like you are wanting to swap urine samples. That's unethical and illegal, to say the least. And help the poor employer who might end up hiring someone who not only has not proven himself to be clean, but would cheat on a drug test.

Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?
Well, considering that even embalmed bodies eventually decay and then turn into mush in a sealed coffin as they decompose (worse than a rotting vegetable), I guess it's probably not a bad idea to seal the coffin. Personally, I'd rather be buried in a plain wooden box so that my body could decompose into the earth naturally. Unfortunately, most cities around here require sealed vaults,...

I highly consider myself one of the dreaded "religious types" (sorry, but it just is what is).

What do you think about people who eat fast food everyday trying to sue the fast food companies because they have become obese?
Granted, I don't think too highly of fast-food companies' lack of reponsibility to society at large. But ultimately, it comes down to the individual consumer. There is enough common knowledge out there that no one should be pointing fingers at anyone but themselves. They chose to eat the food, and no one is holding a gun to them. Why does Christianity place so much emphasis on Paul, and his letters. He never even met Jesus and a lot of his teachings reflect his own prejudices and values. I believe most of these are contrary to how Jesus would have dealt with issues.
Actually, Paul DID meet Jesus. Read Acts chapter 9. This experience of meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus was so profound, that Paul went from killing Christians to being one himself.
Paul's letters to the churches he had started (mostly Gentiles) were his ministry, and it was Paul more than anyone else who brought Christianity to the Gentiles. And yes, it was to these people he...

Why does my cat groom my hair?
He/She likes you. They do that to each other, too. I had a cat once who would lick my hair as I lay down, but then he bit down hard -- like he would if he were after a flea (I had a flea?). Now that hurt and I jumped up. Poor kitty, he sort of cowered down and sulked, then came up and licked my arm when he decided I wasn't mad at him.

What was the first job you ever had as a teenager?
Before graduation, it was just stuff like mowing lawns and such. When I got out of school at 18, it was the early 80's and the recession was so bad that nearly no one was hiring, not even fast-food chains. (Not an exaggeration.) So I didn't get a "real" job until I was 20, finally getting on at McDonald's. Technically, however, I wasn't a teenager anymore.

I'd rather have a custom, personal note.

The "Middle Ages" began with the fall of the Roman Empire (about AD 500), and lasted around 1000 years. The first half of this period is also called the "Dark Ages."

If I stole some holy water from the catholic church, would it still be considered "holy"? And if so..If I were to boil an egg in it.. Would the egg become "holy" too? Because I could really use some holy eggs right about now..
Yes, it is still holy water. A holy or blessed object remains such until it ceases to exist. Stealing it does not change that.
Using it for boiling an egg is not the proper usage of holy water, and I don't think the eggs themselves become holy eggs as a result.

I'm not sure I can convince even a believer that God exists. You just know that you know that you know. A large part of it is God's work, not man's (or woman's).

What does it mean to be "saved" in terms of the Christian religion?
Our Anglican doctrine sees salvation very differently from the average Protestant.

Well, my first guess is that they prefer God to not be part of public ritual and events and the like, but at home God is not an issue. If this is the case, its sort of sad and a bit hypocritical.
Also, Christians aren't the only ones who have trees and give presents this time of the year.

Using my regular name, I don't even come up on Google. Using the name I'm best known by, there is exactly one entry in a birthday listing in a church newsletter archive.
Apparently, I don't have a very Google-worthy life. I'm happy to just keep it that way.

When you're sick with a cold is it okay to use a humidifer?
Last year I had the flu. Even after I got over the flu itself, I spent weeks battling mild bronchitis, wheezing, coughing, headaches, sinusitis, all sorts of breathing problems...
Finally I dug out my humidifier, cleaned it out, used it, and got well in less than a week.
All that because my lungs, nose, sinuses, etc., didn't have the GOOD moisture it needed.

I told by boyrfriend we should take a break from talking or seeing eachother and a few days later I sent him a text message saying I missed him but he didn't respond. WHY?
How long has it been since you texted him? Has he been responsive to text messaging before? Telling someone you want to take a break from them is serious business. If you want to get back together, treat that seriously as well. It may need a face-to-face talk, not a text message.

If you have the ability, but not the desire, where will you be? If you have the desire, but not the ability, where will you be? They are both important.
I would give a slight edge to willpower, because with willpower, a person might try to achieve a goal. Without this, he might not care.

Is religion a significant factor in chosing a partner?
It is with me since my church is a major part of my life and who I am. I would want someone who would support and share this area of my life, and that best comes from someone within my own denomination, even if not from my own parish.

I used to, but my wrists are large because I'm big-boned, so most watches are too tight, or just not able to be fastened at all. (Possibly men's watches would fit better.)
I usually just look at the time from my cell phone.

To be "competent" about christianity (in theory, NOT spiritually), I should
- read the bible
- know about the saints
- know about the history of the church, with the shismas etc and
- the organisation of the different churches today.
anything else?
If it is book learning competence, consider majoring in religion or theology. There's always the option of attending a seminary, even if you don't plan on being ordained.
Aside from that, if you already belong to a church, then serve, be a lay minister. Pastoral care is especially rewarding, and you'll get first-hand experience in LIVING your Christian faith.
Meanwhile,...

It's certainly possible. Just a few generations ago, most girls and many boys got married when they were teenagers, and certainly many of these couples were in love.

Even if the relationship was bad, it was still something that was part of your life. Anything that is a part of your life, and especially something that was so deeply a part of your life, if it dies, it hurts just as deeply. There are hopes and dreams that you probably had for the relationship that have died as well. So there is nothing at all weird about grieving the loss of a relationship,...

Gorgeous and ugly are in the eyes of the beholder. If by fat you mean obese, well I guess in this case it isn't shortening the life span, is it? Rich, well, it's no guarantee of happiness, but money does help, but it isn't an issue here.
So, in this situation, I'd go for the long life. There's a lot more to life than being gorgeous or not.

Why is it so hard for me to get rid of clutter? I literally get anxiety (separation??) when I think about throwing or giving anything away. I so wish I could get rid of my stuff without feeling anxious about it. Any one have an answer?
Put the stuff in a box and store it somewhere out of sight, or even at another location, for a year. That way it will be gone from your life, but deep down you'll know you can get to it. Then, after the year is up, after having lived without the stuff for all that time, throw it out or give it away.

Is an Anglican Priest allowed to baptise children whose parents do not go to church?
Generally, at least one parent needs to be a practicing communicant. It isn't the norm for Anglicans/Episcopalians to baptize children whose families are not Anglicans themselves.

That was the verse that comforted me during a most horrible time in my life and brought me to God.

What happens to a Siamese twin when the other one dies?
In nearly all cases, the second twin will die soon after. Since the two twins nearly always share a circulatory system, the heart of the living twin continues to pump blood into the dead twin's body, which of course will pool there. So, unless there is something to stop this immediately, the second twin bleeds to death very soon after.

I have dreamed in color, but honestly, most dreams I just don't remember whether they are in color or black/white. When I do remember a dream in color, it is mostly because the color was significant enough to be remembered.

It's mostly a personal preference, I suppose, but you need to consider comfort and personal hygiene.
In those situations, I would have long since changed the pad, just because I don't like to feel soaked and yucky and have to worry about it. On heavy days, I might change one every 3-4 hours. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with changing them "too often."

My cat purrs like crazy when spanked hard. Does anyone else's cat love spankings?
Cats can purr when in pain, when afraid, and even as they are dying. While most cats do indeed purr when they are satisfied and happy, purring does not in and of itself indicate the cat is content.
Your cat may be purring because it feels pain.
At any rate, whether or not the cat enjoys it, this would be considered animal abuse. Don't hit or spank your cat. There is no reason to do so.

Well, if the intention is to celebrate the holidays outside of the Christian context, it is done easily . Technically my parents are Anglican, and though we sometimes went to church, I was never baptised. Do I have to be baptised to become a member of the Anglican Church?
Yes. Baptism is what makes a Christian, according to Anglican doctrine. Baptism in the name of the Trinity is required to be an Anglican. (You don't have to be baptized in an Anglican church, however) Confirmation is needed to be a full active, voting member of an Anglican or Episcopal Church, but it is baptism (not confirmation) which makes you a member of the God's Church.

Yes, and in most dioceses, they may marry in the Church by a priest if one partner is Anglican and the other is a Christian baptized in the name of the Trinity. It helps, obviously, if both partners agree on the essentials of doctrine if they plan to make the Church a major part...

It's a predominantly residential community, often a suburb. Its residents commute to the city or another town for work, then come back to this community for home (and their bedroom).

Is the actor Bruce Payne in a Verizon wireless commercial?
Are you referring to a specific commercial, or their commercials in general? Perhaps you are thinking of the "Can you hear me now?" guy, actor Paul Marcarelli.
Answer to:
Why do funeral homes usually have so many rooms and look like a big creepy mansions? If the people staying there are dead, why do they need an entire suite to reside in? What do they use all of those rooms for?
In the 2-story funeral home in my home town, downstairs were four viewing rooms, a chapel, a reception area, restrooms, and a "showroom" for caskets. Also there was a garage and receiving area for the hearse. I never went upstairs, but I understand that a couple more offices, the morgue and embalming room were up there.
As for "creepy" -- well, that really depends on the...

If looks could actually kill, what would be the official cause of death?
Well, I would think a most probable primary cause of death would be cardiac arrest. I'm not sure what would be considered a secondary cause of death, but the contributing factors might be fright or shock or anxiety.

If it is chosen for the ashes of the cremated to be buried in an urn....WHERE do these urns ussually get buried? e.g. are urns buried in gardens of Rememberences??
WHERE do urns get buried?I'm sorry if this is a strange question.
Besides burial in a regular cemetery plot, another place that ashes can be interred is in a columbarium. Its a sort of wall (freestanding or built into a building) that has niches for urns to be sealed into, with memorial plaques on the outside. Many churches, mausoleums and cemeteries have columbariums.

Answer to:
If a girl thinks a guy is ugly at first sight, does that impression tend to hold even if the guy's appearance changes?
"Ugly" looks probably won't draw my attention when a stranger walks into the room. But if over time, a certain man treats me with respect, makes me feel special, and is just basically a good guy through and through, I really don't think about his looks anyway. How he looks is just part of who he is, and I like who he is.

Answer to:
How would you define a "hopeless romantic"?
Broadly, it could mean who stubbornly believes in a hope or dream or fantasy ... in this sense, it may or may not have anything whatsoever to do with romantic love.
As for love, it could mean -- positively or negatively -- that you refuse to give up on the idea of the perfect soulmate somewhere out there in the world.

Answer to:
My boyfriend doesn't like to receive love letters and emails. He thinks "rehearsed" letters cheapen the emotions being expressed. I don't see it that way. What should I do?
If he really doesn't like to receive them, respect him enough to honor that. You would want the same respect from him.

How do you know if you've fallen out of love?
When one day you realize you haven't thought about your former loved one in a while, and you realize then you must have moved on somewhere along the way and he/she just isn't part of your life or your thoughts anymore.

Why are older women jealous of younger women?
In the context of whether they are competition for me in the world of men and dating, well if I am jealous of any woman, younger or otherwise, then I need to step back and deal with my own self-esteem issues.
Now, granted, I have found myself envious of younger women for other reasons (which could also be self-esteem issues). When I got to the point where I had to realize I would probably...

I overheard a co-worker on the phone saying how she didn't like the boss. Should I tell the boss and get her fired?
No. First of all, that phone call has nothing to do with you.
Second of all, its not your place to go around getting someone fired just because they don't like the boss. Such an action will actually reflect badly on you. You will be seen as a gossip, a tattletale, and immaturely competitive. Your boss will not respect you (regardless of how he feels about the co-worker), and there will...

Answer to:
When writing a formal letter to a woman and do you not know her marital status, is it better to use Miss, Mrs., or Ms.? Would it be better to not use a title but just write her full name instead?
Well, I'm in my 40s, and I've never been married.
"Miss" feels disrespectful, as if I am seen as a little girl instead of a grown woman.
"Mrs." is just simply incorrect, since I've never been married.
I'm OK with no title at all, but if one is needed, I would prefer "Ms." far above the other two.

Answer to:
This ugly woman wants to date me! How do I tell her that no means no?
First, let's put aside the whole thing about whether or not she is ugly. There is a lot more to a person than their looks. "Ugly" people can make great partners, and "beautiful" people can be terrors.
Now, if this woman (ugly, average, beautiful, whatever) is being pushy about wanting to go out with you, and you don't want to, you should just tell her so. Be...

Answer to:
What is meant by "acting like a lady"?
In short, not to act like a jerk. Yes, women can be jerks too. (For the record, I am a woman.) Just be nice, treat others with respect.
Courtesy and good manners go a long way towards that, of course. But a "polite" lady who is being fakey and dishonest is still a jerk. A rough, bratty girl who is genuinely helpful and respects others is more a lady than that first woman would ever...

Answer to:
What do you do when you go to the washroom, and when you're finished, there's no toilet paper?
Facial tissues will work in an absolute pinch, but be careful, because they aren't designed for decomposition in a sewer system like toilet paper is. Best put that in the garbage if you can.
I try to remember to just keep 2 or 3 feet of rolled-up, un-used toilet paper in my purse in a small resealable bag, and that will do fine.
Answer to:
Are there any documented cases of a person being sealed in a coffin whilst they were still alive?
In modern times, embalming is the norm in many cultures, including the United States. The embalming process would kill anyone who just happened to still be alive. Not a likely scenario, thank goodness. Medical science is far more accurate nowadays in determining when someone has really died.

Answer to:
Are autopsies only done on dead people or can they be done on the living?
Autopsies can be pretty drastic -- not unlike skinning a fish or cutting up a turkey (including taking out the innards). The methods used in an autopsy would kill a live person. You just wouldn't go around doing that to a living human being. This is also why autopsies can be hard on the dead person's survivors, just thinking of their loved one going through all that.
Of course, if...

Why do the stars appear brighter when the weather is cold?
Stars are mere points of light. Any distortion "blurs" the pinpoints and makes them appear dimmer. The warmer the atmosphere, the more the molecules move around. We have to look through that atmosphere and all that moving air distorts those little pinpoints of light.
Colder air is dense and doesn't move around as much. It's more "still" and so a star's...
Answer to:
Why is the sky blue?
The sky is technically transparent (or at least translucent)... we just have so much atmosphere that when the sun is out (and the sun is VERY bright) all that light gets scattered (as Rhys Waite states above). But at night or during a total eclipse, you can see through our sky to the black space above.

If one is stranded at sea, why is drinking salt water not recommended?
You would most likely live longer by not drinking ANY water. That way, at least your body can still use whatever water it still has.
If you have a decent chance at living about a week without water, you may only live 1-2 days drinking salt water. Your body will suddenly do everything it can to get rid of all the excess salt, and it won't have enough water (including the salt water you...
