Answer to:
How can i run faster
Work on your form; unnecessary movements or strange positions will slow you down by sapping energy and creating more wind resistance.
Also, this is sort of a "quick fix" but they say that when you're running, the faster your arms go, the faster your feet go. It might be easier to concentrate on pumping your arms faster, just make sure you don't expend unnecessary energy.

What will a future human being look like in the year 3006A.D.? (No wrongs answers here, just speculation.)
I predict that we'll be completely hairless, or at least have less hair than we do now. The continued use of home heating systems, heavy coats, etc. has already started to make hair obsolete. (Although maybe we'll still have eyebrows and eyelashes to protect our eyes). Maybe by the year 3006 AD we'll even be able to control the weather, in which case we REALLY wouldn't need...

Does anyone know what commercial is the one where this guy is in line at the grocery store and the older woman in front of him bends over and he says 'whoa'? he wasn't saying whoa because of that but i can't think of why he said it.
It was a starburst commercial. If I remember correctly, it was because he was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the starburst he just ate, but the woman thought he was making some kind of sexual advance.

Is man free...?
If you had asked me that a year ago, I would have said yes. We wear what we want, eat what we want, work where we want, and go where we want.
Legally, I'd say you can make the case that we are free, but recently I've developed a newfound hostility toward society as an enslaving force. Am I really free to eat what I want? Of course not. There's no legislation on the subject,...

My hands are almost always cold, even if the rest of my body is really warm. Why is this and how can I get my hands to be warm (besides sitting on them)?
I have this problem sometimes, too. You may have something called Ray Nodes Syndrome. It basically means that your extremities get poor circulation.
There is a relatively effective, albeit strange, way to treat ray nodes if it is diagnosed. They can attach a biofeedback machine to your fingers which releases a tone. The warmer your fingers get, the higher and louder the tone becomes. (The...

Answer to:
Why do humans judge people by their appearance? Please don't answer, "it's the human nature."
Biology. It isn't just humans who judge by appearance. We are programmed to assess the fertility and overall health of our fellow humans based on appearance. That's why big lips, large breasts, shiny hair, etc. are so attractive to us. This will supposedly allow us to choose the best mate to ensure that the offspring is as strong as possible.
Unfortunately, that doesn't leave...

The answers to science and math questions tend to be quantitative, so it's very clear to check whether an answer is correct or incorrect. (There is no gray area). How can god exist if there is pain, misery and unequality in the world?
During the Enlightenment, some philosophers tried to reconcile the increasingly strained relationship between religion and science by proposing a new image of God. In the big picture, I don't think so. I believe the only thing that could really "doom" us would be the collapse of the universe/explosion of the sun/other imminent cosmic disasters. But after that, maybe the whole process will start over again in a cyclical fashion, and we'll come back.

I think the existence of aliens is more probable. This is partly due to my scientific nature, my hesitance to believe in some higher deity, and the way the question is worded.

Are Americans really slaves who only think they are free?
It's a difficult question to answer, because "freedom" is a relative concept. A situation which one culture views as freedom might be viewed by another culture as slavery and oppression. There is no absolute standard of freedom.
Comparatively, at least, my perception is that we enjoy a high degree of freedom. We exercise free speech and a free press; we burn flags; we are not...

Not necessarily. I don't like the gender-specificity of this question. Sure, behind some successful men there are women. But behind some successful women there are men. Both sexes can achieve equal success.

You are very far away from the ground. When you see something far away, it looks a lot smaller, right? So imagine that you're in the plane and you see a mile-long road on the ground below. Maybe it shows that justice will prevail. He was very powerful, oppressive, and widely feared. His death could serve as an example to other murderers and terrorists that they are more fragile than they think, and their threats and acts of violence are ultimately less effective than our system of justice and liberty.
That sounded a bit ethnocentric. I didn't mean for it to be that way.

My advice would be to plan out very carefully when you will take your breaths and write it in the music. If I don't do that, I always forget at least one and end up taking a breath where I shouldn't. Also, you might try adjusting your embouchure. A lot of air can be wasted through sloppy embouchure.

However, I agree with Painful Ginsu's point that your proposed law probably wouldn't be popularly supported. It would also be very difficult to enforce. I think the closest we have come to this law is the law against statutory rape (which, in my state at...

xprofessor's answer is a really good one and right on the mark, but I've also heard another explanation of this phenomenon.

If you had to choose one abilty to lose which would it be, deaf or blind. Why?
I think deaf people have an easier time of continuing their day to day practical affairs without letting their handicap get in the way. (They can read lips, use sign language, etc.) However, they have no way to experience music, which is tragic. On the other hand, blind people are unable to appreciate color. It's a really tough call, but I think I'd rather be deaf.

Yes very much so. We are constantly bombarded with images and sound bytes telling us who we should be and what we should want. What a great song! That lyric is sung by Hodel and Perchik, neither of whom are married yet. Hodel is watching her sister get married and is wondering if she will get married, too. In this case, canopy means an ornamental cloth hanging over an altar.

Honestly, I have no problem whatsoever with homosexuality or bisexuality. I'll admit that I don't know very many gay men, so sometimes when I'm around them, I'm scared that I'll accidentally say something stupid or create an awkward situation. Despite my potential social clumsiness, I don't mind gay people and I am a passionate advocate of gay rights.

I'm third from the left in the second pic. My avatar is also a picture of me, although I've had my hair cut since then. I find looks hard to quantify...it's all relative. I'm not particularly fond of my appearance though. You'll notice that all my pictures are slightly angled toward the left. That's purposeful.

No that is not unreasonable. They key is balance. As you said, at first he was the one doing all the work and now you're the one doing all the work. Ideally, there would be a situation where you were each doing some of the work. That would be fair.

I think it's fairly normal for men to OCCASIONALLY think about other women while they're in a relationship. However, I don't think it's okay that he told you. Why would he tell you that other than to make you jealous and make you feel bad about yourself? That was extremely insensitive of him.

A set of traits commonly thought to belong to a group as a whole, even if all of the individuals of that group don't exude those traits.

Many English speakers have a poor grasp of the rules of grammar, especially when it comes to the difference between the objective case (me) and the nominative case (I). Good question. I was wondering about that the other day. My prediction is that the most powerful countries will compete for planetary ownership, much like the countries of Europe did for colonies in the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries. Then, maybe the people in those outer-space colonies will want to become independent of their mother countries.

I've experienced this phenomenon, too. My explanation is that when you're in the cold, your blood vessels constrict and there is less flow of blood to the extremities. This is one of the ways the body keeps itself warm. So in a sense, yes, your fingers are shrinking temporarily.

I believe that global warming is a real phenomenon. However, I don't think it's quite as much of a threat as some people make it out to be. I also don't think it's the government's responsibility to pass legislation to curtail global warming.
Please understand that I am an environmentalist, and that's just my current, possibly ill-informed opinion.

Is Ghandi's concept of peaceful resistance as a means of change valid in a violent, war-like world?
Yes. It is valid in a violent world as long as the people in that world still have some sense of conscience. If we were all a bunch of sociopaths, I think it would be futile.

Is government sponsored population control an acceptable solution to the World food and health care problems?
Depends who you ask. I think that Americans would generally be very opposed to governmental regulation of population, because it would be seen as a threat to personal freedom. Also, governmental attempts to regulate such private, familial matters are generally met with vehement opposition.
However, government sponsored population control has been successful in China, and could probably be...

Federalism is a government system which includes both one central government and many smaller local goverments. The founders who designed the constitution made the United States a federalist system so that local needs would be addressed, but all of the states would also be unified under one powerful government. Also, it is part of the system of "checks and balances", because power is...

Is animal life worth as much as human life?
In my opinion, it depends on the animal and it depends on the human. For example, if I had to choose between killing an anonymous dog and an anonymous person, I'd choose to let the human live. However, if I had a choice between killing Lassie and some serial murderer, I'd let Lassie live.

What is concession to opposition? How does it help in persuasive writing?
Usually, when you're writing a persuasive paper, there are valid points on both sides of the argument. Concession to opposition means mentioning (and possibly rebutting) some of the valid arguments against your point. For example, if I were writing a paper supporting electric cars, I might say something like this: Although electric cars are expensive and slow to accelerate, their benefits...

What are some good books to read if I want to learn more about the history of feminism?
"The Feminine Mystique" by Betty Friedan
Answer to:
Has Western society become effeminised? If so, what do you think about this?
Maybe. It depends on what you consider to be feminine qualities. Our society certainly seems to favor diplomacy and civility over physical violence. We also value appearance, fashion, intelligence, and culture. I'm not saying that these are all strictly feminine qualities, but they certainly do not coincide with the stereotype of a primitive alpha male.

Do you think i have any right to be annoyed that the only alto part in our college musical has been given to a soprano, who i might add, has a terrible voice and is very arrogant. Making things worse, she is playing an english nanny, and is latvian.
It sounds like you wanted that role. That's rough, and I know how it feels to be disappointed by casting decisions. You do have the right to be annoyed, and sometimes directors do make misjudgments in they're casting. However, my advice is to try not to let your experience of the show be ruined by jealousy. Ideally, theatre shouldn't be competitive; it should be collaborative.

I don't think it's possible to determine someone's numerical shoe size by looking at his feet. Also, even if women somehow could do that, they (we) don't care. Please don't be self-conscious about your feet. I can't speak for all women, but for me, it's really no big deal at all.

Biology and religion aside, maybe a purely philosophical way to look at it would be that death "validates" life. Without death, life would not be special because there would be no alternative to it.
