USA is ranked #37 in health care. Why is France ranked #1?
Easy answer. The World Health Organization (part of the UN), who did these rankings, heavily weighed whether or not a nation had "universal coverage", and whether expensive care might be a financial burden on the recipient. This represents a disturbing bias, to say the least. By WHO standards, the shoddy care available in Cuba is highly ranked, because it is government-provided.

How do fission nuclear weapons differ from fission nuclear power and how do the by products of their reaction effect the human race at large?
They are significantly different.
Fission weapons rely on quickly creating a critical mass of U-235 or PU-239. The critical mass creates an amplifying chain reaction that transmutes the fissible isotopes while it blows the mass apart. When the mass begins to blow apart, the reaction becomes more haphazard, and produces all kinds of intermediate fission (radioactive) byproducts, like...

Are you aware of the time element involved in arresting an illegal immigrant? about 3 hours. it takes away officers from serious police calls and from protecting you and your family. is there a better way to handle this situation?
How about writing a speeding ticket and appearing in court to defend it? How about writing parking tickets?
It takes 2-3 hours to arrest ANYONE, from war protesters to murderers, including all necessary procedures.
The "better way" is to ensure that the appropriate followup happens, after the arrest, to deport the illegal entrant.

I work out three or more time a week for and hour and I lift weights. I still gain five pounds every Winter or more. I want to lose a little more but I am going up and down.I eat mostly fruit and vegetables. I eat very little saturated fat. Suggestions
You want to keep from gaining in the Winter? Well, as the days get shorter and you (probably) spend more time indoors), your metabolism slows. Plus, as you indulge in the fatty foods and alcohol everpresent in the season, you have company.
To keep from gaining that unwelcome seasonal addition, drop your average caloric intake (starting in mid-october) by 100 cal/day.

Answer to:
I have put a deposit down on a rental house and have decided not to take it. Are they required to give my deposit back if I cancel within a certain number of days? I have not signed a lease agreement.

There is an ambiguity to the question. Either your landlord is RENTING the house, and subletting it to you (which is what your question seems to state) -- but such a case seems unusual.
More likely is that your landlord's mortgage is in default. If he has indeed lost the house to foreclosure, than you should not pay your landlord AT ALL. You should pay his bank. They, by taking...
Answer to:
I'm leasing in a 12 months contract. I need to break the lease 2 months before the lease finish. The Landlord doesn't agree. What should I do? I really need to break it next week!!
Under most conditions, you will still be required to pay for the last two months. Unless your lease EXPLICITLY provides an exception, you are better off paying than not, since you are liable in a court action for the two months rent, PLUS you will likely lose your deposit for violating the terms of your lease (that's how my leases are written).

When you open a bottle of red wine, do let it breathe or do you just open it and drink?
It depends entirely on the wine. Many younger wines are too tight to show well without some agitation and oxygen. Many old (20+ years) wines will start going downhill the instant the cork is pulled.

I can think of one that *claims* it is based on actual proof. But, like many other religions, whenever their "proof" is challenged by compelling contrary evidence or repudiation of the methods used to attain their so-called proof, the believers shriek, shout, and try to belittle their opponents.

Why do some bread bags have holes in them? This only makes the bread get stale much faster, and if there are things like sunflower or sesame seeds on the exterior, they get all over because they fall out of the holes.
Only FRESH, hot/warm, unsliced bread should be found in a bag with holes. The holes are there so that the moisture released from the still-warm bread doesn't make the bread soggy.

Sure. Bumper stickers are a desperate means of expression, often for somebody who holds the value of expression above the value of reason. Those people are usually volatile and unreasonable. It's possible, but much less likely. If Iraq were a hotbed of terroristic activity (rather than the oil-money-encouranger of terrorism), or were well-advanced in atomic bomb development, then we might have invaded. But I'd have to say that without the oil, but all else being equal, I'd reduce the hypothetical odds of our Iraq invasion to around 30%.

Yes. A war to protect our flow of oil *is* justified, as is war to protect any vital economic or social interest of the US. However, we do not need to be in this particular predicament. Our political kowtowing to the tree-hugger set has kept us from developing (completely-achievable) energy independence.

What are the downsides of solar energy?
It is cost-ineffective. Solar is (hugely) the most expensive means of generating electricity there is. (9-15 x nuclear, 8 x gas, 5 x wind).
Answer to:
Will solar panels become affordable for the average home owners, with this current recession solar panels and self how to books would you convert to solar heating, explain.your view pro & con.
IF the "average homeowner" finds himself with enough disposable income to waste on buying electricity at 9-15 times what it would cost via nuclear of coal generation, then solar would be "affordable" -- but always financially wasteful.
Answer to:
Why shouldn't the government subsidize solar panels for us all?
Why shouldn't government subsidize solar? The answer is simple: solar is the single LEAST cost-effective means of power generation, and is therefore a HUGE WASTE of money. Solar is 9-15 times more expensive, per watt, than nuclear or coal, 8 times more expensive than natural gas, and 5 times more costly than wind.
Answer to:

Presuming you take MY money (via government subsidy) to install your system, and don't ever need to repair or replace your roofing, then the answer is "maybe". otherwise, you're pre-buying your electricity.

You can. It will lubricate. But since it isn't a refined oil, it will have all kinds of other byproducts that will make it gum up, and smoke or combust at a lower temp.

What kills parasites in sushi? Is it wasabi, ginger, or is freezing it what kills the buggers?
None of the above kills them. I don't mean this to sound glib, but proper inspection (either by the fish supplier, the chef, or you) is the ONLY way to avoid parasites in fish. It is nearly always possible to (easily) see infestations in fish meat.

Hi i get see about 5 or 6 dots all the time floating everywhere ..but that normal enough right well sumtimes a dot forms in the middle of my eye turns to like this < looks just like that after about 5 mins the whole time i couldnt see its just a big trian
It's perfectly normal. They're called floaters -- bits of coagulated protein within the eyeball. But, if they appeared suddenly, or in unusually large numbers, especially in conjunction with a blow to the head, you may have a (partially) detatched retina -- which needs IMMEDIATE opthamalogic attention.

If the electrolysis of water produces dark green color, can it be considered a potable water and safe for drinking?
If your water is turning green during electrolysis, then you are using copper for electrodes, right? The green is copper ions and cupric oxide in solution. It probably won't harm you in small quantities. It will, however, be bacteria free (due to the antimicrobial effects of copper. Those antimicrobial effects might just wreak havoc with your GI tract if you drink too much....

What would happen if you placed carbonated drink (like Coke or Pespi) into the freezing section of your refrigerator ? I am just curious because I was just putting some Coke into my fridge, and I left on in the freezing section out of curiosity!
The CO2 does NOT come out of solution as the soda freezes! But, the water in the soda DOES expand by about 10% when it changes state to ice, certainly expanding, and probably bursting the can or bottle containing it.

On the revenue side: California's revenue collection is too lumpy. It goes through unpredictable boom and bust cycles. Assuming most crop circles are made by people, how do they do it?
"Most" of them aren't made by people. ALL of them are. With some basic surveting techniques (stakes & string), you take a wooden plank, 1-6 feet long, with ropes through the ends. You hold the ropes so you can pick up and advance the plank, before stepping down on it.

Both sides have problems. Windmills probably don't harm bats, since bats are active at night, when the wind isn't often blowing.

Is the H2 a full-time 4wd vehicle, & if so...Why? It would seem that GM would have went for the sensibility of a on-demand 4wd... The weather in most of the usa doesn't warrant full-time 4wd... Thanks
All hummers, from the original HMMWV to the H3, use a center differential. This makes them all AWD, not 4WD, during normal use. As soon as the operator switches the center differential into a "lock" mode, the vehicle becomes 4WD (like an early model Subaru 4WD). This locking increases tire wear and decreases traction and mileage on smooth dry roads. But it increases traction and...

Well-made wine does NOT taste like alcohol. When a wine starts to exceed 14.5% alcohol, it can begin to taste a bit "hot" due to the alcohol. However, most wines are between 12.5 and 14.5% alcohol, with the alcohol well-integrated into the structure and mouthfeel of the wine. It is possible for some wines at 16.5% alcohol to not taste hot, if the body and fruit have enough...

Wine is only as sweet as the sugar content in the grapes from which they're made (a product of ripeness), combined with how far fermentation is allowed to progress (fermentation turns sugars into alcohol).
There are, however, (mostly white) wines which are bone dry, but can smell or taste sweet, due to their aromatic characteristics -- like muscat, sauvignon muscet, chardonnay musque,...

Have you noticed commercially produced wine tastes more like sour, bitter fruit than sweet fruit? What happened to take it from a sweet, fermented taste to such a sour, bitter taste?
Ever eat a table grape? It it usually quite sour, too. It is sour because its acids are high and its sugars are low. When wine is made, yeast 'eat' the sugars in grape juice, and excrete alcohol. Fermentation is complete when all the sugars are gone. What you have left is a magnificent melange of alcohol, acid, and complex flavonoids which are carried by the acid and alcohol. It...

Why is there a large indentation at the base of a wine bottle?
The punt (indentation) at the base of wine bottles (red, white, and sparkling) does three things: it increases the weight and luxerious feel of a wine bottle (of marketing value), it allows for a reaching pour (of serving value), and it significantly strengthens the bottle, as a flat base is where a bottle is most likely to break.

Why do sulphites get added to wine?

I just needed to check (since the melody bears a resemblance to one in the first act). I was certain it was Bellini, and nearly sure it was from Puritani, and about 60/40 between the last and the first acts....
