Answer to:
Why can’t something traveling at 2 X light speed just get somewhere twice as fast as light even if on arrival, in theory it could then watch itself make that journey, though it would appear to happen in reverse.
Because of the first law of(concering only light speed) relativity. Even at that speed, everything around it will slow down and their perceptions are what they see. With relativity it is impossible to look ahead or behind yourself. Unless you apply quantum field theory. Then any object can arrive somewhere by an infinite number of paths.

Spoke with a good friend that is in possesion of a huge vinyl collection. We both play guitar and he grew up on the Beatles. We are not sure what you mean by "mode". If you mean what effects they use, the common effect would be a fuzz pedal. If I am totally lost, let me know what you mean.

Because they feel a need for self expression and find this style of music best describes it.

No, I find that the Blues has a connection with everything around me. When I play, the sound just flows out of me.
Answer to:
Why are the blues so popular?
Blues music is different than any other genre. The chords are more mellow, the progressions stick in your' mind. It's easy to feel the rythm. The lyrics is easy to realate to no matter who you are. The music doesn't make you want to scream or cry. I play downtown where I live and I've yet to see someone that didn't like it. Blues just is.

Play heavier strings if your' fingers can handle them. Heavier strings will give you a great deal more tone and can be tuned down with less buzz. You will have to adjust the curve of your' neck and bridge height. Pretty simple.

Pretty simple. The value of a chord or scale is in it's sound. There are some dedicated(dominant 7) chords but I play all over the place. I honestly don't know the names of most of the chords and scales I play. To me, if it sounds bluesy, that's good enough.

Acoustic or electric, rock, blues or country? Might be best if you just go to the bigest shop around and spend the day playing everything. Use the same amp with all of them, preferably the same as you own. Also you could just bring yours with you. Bring a friend who can play and walk around while he plays and listen to each guiatr. Yes, but realize that when you buy a $150 guitar you get what you pay for. No one makes a quality guitar at that price. The bottom line. What is a great electric gutar amp, that is ment to play hard rock, metal music?
Most tube amps will give you better tone than a solid state amp. This is the real issue though. A large amp turned down will not sounds as good as a small amp turned up. No, either way, it's just a book written by men. Words on paper are hardly real proof. Give me something that I can test. I was led to believe "blindly" That God existed as a youth. I respect all of those with faith, I just don't believe anything I can't touch, see, or test.

Why is the Bible more believable than Dianetics?
Well......
I am an aethiest and to me they are both just books written by men. I survived Catholic schools, 20 years in the Marines and 4 years at Purdue studying Electrical Engineering. I have yet to see any proof that there is any kind of Deity, except the word of men. Please don't think I am critical of those weho have faith, I'm simply giving you my take on the whole thing....

Did B.B. King, Howlin Wolf, or any other old blues band use Keyboards?
Not in "old Blues" I have many copies of older stuff(take a look on youtube) and it's usually just a guitar a stool a singer/musician and a crowd. As time went on piano and brass were added. It's arguable when because some people still don't acknowledge anything more than a simple Bluesman. Around the late 30's early 40's The face of Blues began to change....

What size of amp would i need to play in a small hall etc.I'm currently plugging in to the PA but want to change over to an acoustic amp but am unsure about the power i would need. The PA is a six channel 500W.
When I select an amp, I do it base on it's tone. Nothing else matters. As mentioned above, using a pa system is the way to go. I always play a tube amp. The sound of one can be surprising when compared to a solid state amp. I don't usually buy large wattage amps either. Remember, you're going to play it through a Pa anyway. Also you might be surprised by both the sound...

Best brand of electric guitar strings?
Depends on persenal preference and the sound you want. I play Ernie balls on my electrics, using 2620's I throw away the 11 guage string. All of my electrics are Ibanez with 24 fret necks and tremolos. I have one acoustic, Ibanez too, and I play Ernie balls Earthwound 13's. I tried a lot of strings before I settled on Ernies. Whats better for playing metal music drop d or just heavy metal strings, for my electric gutar
This is a case of persenal preference. I play Blues and play the heaviest strings I can find(14-58). I tune down a half step. Many aggressive rock artists use drop D tuning. Either way, heavier strings always sound better.

I have a Sekova acoustic guitar in good condition with all the strings. What would be a reasonable price to ask for it when I go to sell it?
Sekova was a Japanese company that made a bunch of Gibson and Fender copies. Regretably your' guitar is not worth all that much. I found many of Sekovas' guitars on the web. I didn't find one over $100.00.

I'm in a band and there are 2 guitarists. I'm 1 of them. I play lead and the other rhythm. He plays a Gibson SG special faded and I play an Ibanez RGR420EX. His sound is always sharper/more cutting than mine. Why is this?
I am an Ibanez freak, I own ten right now. These two guitars will sound different. Different pickups and woods are to blame. However, many players prefer the flat 24 fret neck and the high output pickups in your RG over the SG. In the end, you'll need to decide which has the sound for you. Good luck.

Hey is the Epiphone SG400 elactric guitar a good guitar, what are some pros and cons about it? Please tell me because i am thinking of getting one. Thanks
All of the less expensive Epi's are made in China. This is not a bad thing. China has some of the best quality control on the planet. Prices start at $299.00 and top out with the Tony Iommi signature model at $599.00(they all have set neck's). I am sure that the difference is in the hardware. If you find one with a bolt on neck demand a lower price. Take a print out of prices on...

What is 5 divided by 0?
Think about it. "Infinity" is a value, just one that we will never know. Division by zero is not a number. It is huge in terms of infinity. But it is not a number we can use like the infinity number. A final example. Think of the limit of an equation. "Y=2 OVER X". This results in an "asimptotic" situation. On either side of "X=0" Y gets huge, and we...

Only two things that are easy to fix. Dirty DVD disk, look for fingerprints. Lots of dust on the sensors in the player. Don't be afraid of removing the cover. Once inside, blow away any obvious dust. If it still won't load try looking for some small optical sensor, don't worry about running the player without the cover, the disk will cover the laser. Take a brush and...

My son's cello has stopped playing a clear E - it sounds scratchy. All the other notes are clear. We replaced the D string, and that was not the problem. It is not his technique - it is something with the instrument, but what?
If the sound is "twangy" the problem is in the path of the string. What I mean is that there are 2 points that the string rests on. The nut and the bridge or saddle. There could be somthing under the string or sitting in the groove along with the string. Still, there is the chance that the soloution will be a bit more expensive. Some less expensive guitars have less expensive...

I dont understand This proportion: n+8 Over 5n + -2 =3over 8.
n+8/5n+(-2) = 3/8
Devide through by (5N-2).
To do this multiply both sides by (5N-2) over (1). This gives you,
(N+8)=3(5N-2)over(8) dropping the + sign before the 2.
Now do the math,
N+8=(15N-9)over(8)
Take the 8 and multiply it into (N+8). This gives you,
(8N+64)=(15N-6)
From here things should be getting easier.
Take all the N's and their coeficients and move them onto the...

Does't sound like it's expensive so try this. Get some lubricating oil like WD-40. Very carefully put 1-2 drops around the outside and inside of the truss rod. If you misstyped the question, don't get frustrated. It takes many guitarists many years to develope an "ear".

No, true or false simply indicates that one statement is correct while the other is false. Not showing any support for either answer. Right or wrong, correct or not are absoulutes. True or false will tell you what answer is right or wrong, correct or incorrect, it does not in itself contain the correct answer because it is not the direct answer.

When installing windows XP service pack 2 on a notebook computer, why is it important to use an AC adapter rather than a battery during the installation? (2009-09-12)
Because computers are creatures of timing. They expect that when you tell them to do something it will get done in exactely the time it thought it should. When you run on batteries, the power might fluctuate. These fluctuations can cause minor timing issues, allowing time critical operations to fail

How do i Repaint my yamaha G-225A Acoustic guitar? Please Help
I'm thinking this is a nylon string clasical. In my opinion, never paint any acoustic guitar. Never. Unless you are great instrument painter or have a butt load of cash to pay for said paint job, don't do it. Also, I did a bit of reasearch and I believe you'll pay more for the paint job than the guitar is worth.
I hope this is helpfull!

Keep them both. Use the Epi as a back up and travel guitar. Play the Gibson at home. The Gibson will only increase in value. Save up for a new Gibson. Most people love having a "vintage" guitar.

Answer to:
Why is a bass easier to learn than a guitar? I know there are only 4 strings, but there are more frets, so i'm a little confused.
First off, several manufacturers make bass's with up to 8 strings. Generally a bassist doesn't play as complex a series of tones. Usually they play one note at a time while a guitarist is moving all over the place and playing any number of string up to all of them. However, it's more than that. It's not that difficult to play a chord that includes all 6,7,8 or 12 strings....

I have currently got a guitar with an amp using a standard 1/4 jack.
How can I play this through the amp and through my computer? What do I need?
Most modern computers have a sound card built in. I recommend playing your guitar through your computers speakers. If you have a subwoofer and speakers it shouldn't sound bad at all. Splitting the guitars signal may result in only one(computer or amp) device working.

Next, unscrew the ring around the pickup. Pull the pickup out of the guitar and remove the ring, springs and all screws. Next...

What's the difference between active and passive guitar pickups?
In actual design a passive pickup works off of the strings alone. In other words, the harder you hit the strings the louder the sound you make. Think of this string-pickup realationship as a light bulb hooked up to a dimmer switch.
Now actives are very different. They have much less resistance because they are being amplifide by a battery. When you hit the strings, you get the same volume...

Answer to:
Choose the best directions for graphing the equation y= (1/2)x + 1.
Rewrite the equation as Y=(X2)+1. Find the intercepts. Intercept for Y is 1, X is -2. To find these values substitute 0 for X and Y seperatley. This is actually a great equation for doing this no fractions, square roots, or decimals. Now plug in a few whole number for X. For X=2 Y=2, for X=4 Y=3, for X=6 Y=4. By now you should see a pattern forming. What you could do is graph Y=X/2 first....
Answer to:
What is the slope of the line y= -3? or is there not enough information?
The word "slope" indicates that the line on a two-dimension graph moves in both direction. In other word, when you solve for X by inserting the value indicated by the position of the line as it moves accross the graph, the results will always give a different value. Simply, if the line is horizontal, the slope is zero meaning there is no change in the direction of the line. If the...

Since the laws for all dimensions are different, if you were to suddenly end up in one that you never belonged in the first place, the laws for that dimension wouldn't apply to you, and you could do anything you wanted. Agree or disagree, and why?
We are in all four dimensions right now. Think of it this way, three hills, each one higher than the other. When you climb the first you don't see anything. But when you climb the second you can see the first. On top of the forth you can see all the dimensions we are corrently aware of.

I am thinking that the material the bow is made of would have an enourmous affect on the tone of your cello. The stiffer the material, the brighter the sound. Unless the bow is made to emulate the chartacteristic of your wooden bow, it's gonna sound different. If you are buying from a local store simply cart your cello there and try out the bow before you buy. Good luck!

My wife and I are looking to buy a 50" flat screen HDTV. We did some research and have found that the plasma TV's only last for 10 years and the LCD last longer. What are the pro's and con's for either the plasma or LCD?
LCD's are available up to at least 55". That said, LCD's are infinitly more durable than Plasma. The big ticket item in a plasma is, lets just call it a light bulb. The bulbs burn out on a regular basis. LCD's do not have any parts that need replacing on a regular basis. I will disagree with some of the answers here in that plasma gives you a better picture. If you have a telephone line connection, you could see a decrease in connection speed by changing locations. If you have a Cable connection, I would start looking for little...

When someone commits suicide by placing an gun in their mouth, after discharge, where does the bullet enter?
21 year Marine Veteran here. It depends on the angle the pistol is pointing at. It could go through the roof of the mouth and take out the frontal lobes or it could blow out the back of the neck along with the spine. As the pistol is aimed left or right, up or down, you see that just because the pistol is in your mouth doesn't mean it's going to hit anything important.

What is the perfect blues guitar amp set up? im really struggling to find one i like!
I begin with a quality Tube amplifier. In my opinion, a tube amp is kee to getting a great Blues sound. Depending on "how much" amp you need, a garage or a small club, you can start with a blackheart 5 watt or go as big as Fender or Marshalls 100watt heads. I like to let my pedals to the fancy stuff in my setup. I prefer to buy a simple tube amp, one without effects. I believe that...

Why does my guitar string make kind of like a buzz sound when playing mainly around 10th through the 14th frets? It's more noticeable with the smaller strings.
If you are sure these are the fretts making the noise, IE pluck each string seperately all the way up and down the neck, then it's too much bow in the neck. When I work on a neck, I take a sharpy marker and put dots on the noisey frets. This gives me an idea of how much and where the problem is.
If you've never adjusted a neck, I strongly recommend finding someone who has. The...

Got a question for those that are musically inclined. I enjoy playing the acoustic guitar but still a novice. I was told DR strings were the best to buy considering they are not over expensive and perform greatly! Is this true? Need help please?
The only problem I've ever had with my strings would be on my acoustics. I bought a bunch of Martins from a ".com". Big mistake. These pupies, while very cheap $3.00 a set, split their windings on every fret I bent them on. We are talking like 30min of playing. I've never tried RD. I play Ernie Balls, priced at about $6.00 a set. I would not buy a 10 pack of strings...

Gibson or Fender?
What you are asking is like comparing a rollerblade with a skatebord. The both kinda do the same thing, just in a different way. Singles are brighter and kinda have a pop when you bang on the strings. Gibsons usually have...

So i want to get an acoustic guitar and it will be the first one i own. i have played a little before but i was wondering where i could get the most bang for my buck, so to speak, the best quality for the cheapest price
I am not going to recomend a single manufacturer. I will however say that any guitar under $400.00 dollars is probably Chinese. This is not a bad thing though. They make some really nice quality guitars. My preference is Ibanez. I have yet to see another company that has their quality of neck. By the way, when you do get a guitar, make sure it has a good neck. IE no fret buzz or rough frets....
Answer to:
What is the difference between a Regualar Guitar and a Bass Guitar?
I mean like is the neck longer?
And Does the shape of the body affect the sound, if i wanted to make one?
The big difference is physical. The bass is built much heavier, the string are twice the thickness too. Where an electric guitars strings range from 8-38's to 13-56's bass strings start in the 40's and end up as high as the 130's. The neck is longer too. The woods used for basses are the same used for electric guitars. The shape of the body is something that many designers...

Pretty simple answer here. I prefer Enie ball string and I play the heaviest ones I am able to. Bottom line, heavier strings sound better. They have more sustain and better tone. If you are not up to 13's yet, keep working at it and you'll love the sound when you get there.

This has been bothering me for a while, The ESP viper guitar, what is it quaility wise, i havnt been able to go to my local guitar shop and check it out yet, and what would it compare to, like the les paul or fender or w.e?
From what I've been able to research and play at stores, the model 200f is where I would start when considering buying this body style of ESP. It has a 24 fret set neck made from three pieces of mahogony. It also has a coil-splitting push-pull feature on the tone knob. I would compare this line to any les paul style guitar. Although the 2900f has a lot of features for the price.

First make sure you do not hjave anjy disk in any drives that may have an "installable" program on them. If your drives are empty find your setup disks and see if your box will boot from them. If this is a no then you probably have a hardware failure, motherboard, drive, or one of the cards.

Answer to:
Guitar strings after playing a guitar for 6 months do your strings start to sound funny
The reason your guitar is sounding funky is most likely caused by "finger cheese". Dead skin can get crammed into the windings and take the "bright" sound away. This is normal wear and when you hear the bright sound start to dissapear, change your strings.
Answer to:
Do you have any suggestions for tremolo techniques?
Well there's three ways of playing with it. You can alter the frequency by moving the bar faster or slower and you can alter the amplitude by increasing the distance that you move the bar in each direction. Lastley, you can simply do a bend like you would just using your finger. I do that often when I want to bend a chord.

I have a Fender Squire Bullet. And an electric tuner. Now, My tuner isn't picking up the note from my guitar cable. When I bought it used, and tested it, it worked just fine. What could be the problem?
Hartdaniel makes a very good point. Does your guitar work when its plugged in to the amp? If it does, try plugging it back into the tuner and mess around with the cable where it goes into the tuner. For that matter where it goes into the guitar. Could just be the jack, or the cable.
Answer to:
What is the difference between an accoustic guitar and a bass?
Bass guitars are built much heavier. There really is not a set number of string anymore. I've seen basses with up to 8 strings. Also, bass strings are very heavy,4 strings(45-100g)while acoustic and electric strings start anywhere from 8's to 13's and finish up anywhere from 38's to 56's. 8's on a bass are about the same gauge as the 4,5 and 6's.

I want to start playing guitar, but first I need to buy one. What kind should I get if I want to end up playing stuff like Grateful Dead, The Beatles, the Doors, etc.?
Get out to the guitar shops and play them all. You know the sound you're looking for right? Picking a beginer guitar is not that hard. I recommend Ibanez and Epiphone. I'm thinking you're going to want something with "humbucking" pickups in it. After that, just play them and listen to how thay sound.

If you want to paint your guitar, make sure you have the skills and the paint to do it right. When I started paining guitars I was amazed at the imperfections that would show through the paint. Also, to get a really hard, shiney finish you'll need a few weeks for drying time or a real good quality gun and paint. Unless you want to make it look kinda used.

What makes up a good guitar? What do you you want to look for when thinking about purchasing a new guitar?
In order of importance;
1.The Neck and the wood the guitars made of.
2.The sound.
3.The hardware and finish.
You can always replace the pickups and hardware but the big ticket is the neck. If you don't like the sound the woods, body and neck, are making(harder woods will give a brighter sound) You'd be better of with a different guitar all together.

My 9th fret on the G string has a notch in it, and the sound is a bit... annoying. Is there any way to replace a fret, or do i have to buy a whole new neck for my guitar?
Here's the bottom line. If your guitar is worth more than 400 dollars go to your local guitar store and ask for the phone number of someone that can replace the fret. If your guitar is worth less than that, you'll be better off buying a new guitar. If the guitar has centimental value, hang it on the wall.

To get the strings lower, you'll need to make an adjustment to the bridge. It's the plastic part just past the sound hole in the flat wood piece. I like Glenn Blaylocks website. It would appear however, that he is standing on his own soapbox. Ya can't make any type of organic compound out of hydrogen and oxygen, no matter how you arange the atoms.

Water vapor in and of itself is not a green house gas but instead make the air we breath hang onto it easier.

Legal issue. I've known many families whose parents are ill-equipped to handle this situation. Also, many parents will be much more willing to intervene when they find out that it is not just their kids getting in trouble over this.

The rest of the group, or one child, begins by guessing the number, while you reply "too-high or too low". I try and coax them into guess by rounding off the number. First by 1000's the...

Yes. If you are looking for a beginner guitar I have a few web sites and stores to look at. My first choice for a beginner guitar would be an Ibanez or Epiphone. If I have several different r/c aircraft, how can one transmitter control each one individually, given that they all must have different frequencies?
Think about it. Every plane can have the same frequency. Afterall, you won't be flying them at the same time. I have one TX and all my RX's are on the same frequency. I only fly one of them at the saME TIME.

Is there an propeller airplane that can break the sound barrior?
NO. In level flight a propeller driven airplane can't exceed the sound barrier. The problem is basic physics. When the props tip reaches the angular velocity of sound it hits a brick wall in forward velocity. Can't do both at the same time.

Is infinitesimal (infinitely small) equivalent to zero?
No, in terms of infinite and finite zero is finite while the infinite can get close but will never be finite.
Answer to:
What is the ordinal form of zero and how do you spell it all out? (Is it 0st, 0nd, 0rd, 0th)?
Practical mathmatician here. Zero is not an ordinal. Zero has no value but to take up space in a number.
Answer to:
If zero is nothing, zilch or nada then how can -1, -5 or -539 678 have any value?
Zero only has value as a "placeholder" when surrounded by numbers other than zero. See 1 is'nt of much value until you start squeezing 0's in on it's right side. The same holds true for 0's on the left side. And the use of a negative sine in both of the above examples doesn't change zeros value.

We are currently having band practice at my house in a small extra bedroom with plaster walls. A guitar amp at even moderate volume is deafening. Dampening should be my goal, correct? Is there an affordable sound dampening material to apply to thewalls?
You guys are WAY off base here. Covering the walls with sound absorbing insulation will only stop the sound from getting out of the room. Those still in the room will still suffer from bleeding ears. Consider buy some smaller amps for this location. Remeber, a small amp turned up will sound better than a big amp turned down.

It can be done but from the beginning I recommend against it. I know how and have done it. Ya gotta be sure that the bridge your putting in is exactly 90 degrees off from the strings. Also, ya gotta make sure that the bridge is exactly the right distance from the 12 fret as the 12 fret is from the nut.

Hi, I'm customizing my fender hss strat. It has two single coil slots and one humbucker slot. I want to buy seymour duncan p-rails for the bridge and the neck pickups, but I'm not sure how I can change the slots from a single coil to a humbucker.
With a router, or chisel and hammer. I've modified a lot of bodies and I gotta tell ya, it aint easy. If you are an experienced wood worker, give it a shot. However, if your start is worth money, I'de trade it in for a strat that has a hummbucker in the bridge. Then you can switch out the pickup easily.

There are three that come to mind. First off, I don't think you'll need a very powerfull amp. The amps are the Blackheart 53 watt, the epiphone valve junior(kinda loud) and the fender champion 600. For a small room I'de buy the fender. For a garage, the blackheart. The epiphone has great tone but is very loud and breaks up(produces gain like hard rock) from mid volume on up....

A "blues shuffle" rythm is what I think you are talking about. Actually, it's a very simple structure. This is the easiest one I know. The tricky part is the slid on D and G only. Answer to:
Why is the guitar made of what its made of?
"Tone-woods" All the woods used for guitars, acoustic or electric, are used for many reasons. For electrics, woods are used to brighten or dull the effect the strings have while they are vibrating over the pickups. The harder the woods the longer and more exactly the string vibrate. The softer woods tend to absorbe some of these vibrations. For acoustics it's very much the same...

I just bought a brand new epiphone les paul, lead, and 20W amp. there is a very very loud buzzing noise coming from the amp when i turn up controls on guitar and/or amp. i think it might be a grounding problem but im not sure. please help.
It might be an effect call gain. Gain is produced when the amp is push to louder sound levels. If it sounds good at 2 or 3 but buzzes at 8, you are overdriving your amp.

semi-hollow body electric
hollow body electric
Acoustic with a pickup(acoustic electric if you will.)

First things first. When you pick up you guitar, get in your head about the sounds you want to make. When you play your guitar, find the sounds that are in your heart. Come on guys. Don't reply unless you have some experience.
Nike, get an electric guitar "start up package". The acoustic has, even in lighter strings, a much stiffer, harder string. Also, the acoustic is a much larger guitar(harder to get your arms around). The electric guitar will give you the most results with the least effort. Good luck.

If you have electrical wiring and wood-working experience, the cavity of a humbucker is close to the right size for a single. The problem with this type is that the corners of your existing cavity will not have enough room for the angled single coil. I...

Answer to:
If ur guitar is making a buzzing or fuzzy noise wut does that mean?
This is an easy one. The buzz you hear is being caused by one or both of two things. One, the bridge is set too low allowing the strings to hit the frets that are between where you finger is and the base of the neck, where the pickups are. Two, your neck is out of adjustment. Every guitar I have ever adjusted, repaired, has required a little bit of bow in it. This is a little bit of bend away...

Big RC guy here. If your speed controller is'nt up to the increase in voltage, you'll fry it. You can always add capacitance to a system, the down side is weight. For the Guitar, the word SCALE is used along with the letters A through G and at least 10 or 15 sub catagories for each letter including Major, minor, Dorian, Diminished.... and so forth.
In their proper order, first pick the NOTE of your scale, A through G. Next pick what type of scale you want to play, Major, Minor and so on.
Ok real world here.
C Major scale in order of strings...

I play the guitar as a beginner at school and a part of our final is to find and learn how to play a song. are there any songs you know that are relatively easy and use basic chords?
Your comment on the first answer helped clear up the questions I had about your question. If you are ok playing an older tune, the Beatles have a hug base of easy yet rewarding songs to learn. I think most anyone alive would recognize any Beatles tune. Good luck!

What are some easy songs for a beginner guitarist?
If you're looking for the rythm part of a song, the Beatles(easy to pick up and very rewarding) have a ton of good songs. If you want some lead type stuff, you probably need to do some work with scales first. Realize this too, anything you learn adds to your BASE of skills. The more you know, the better you get.

I've been playing guitar since I was 14. I'm now 22 and play at a reasonable skill level. Is it impractical to attempt to be a "great" Blues guitar player by 30? Would I still be able to have a music career by then?
I've been told that if you take a good guitarest and teach him some soul, some feel for what he's doing, you'll have a great Bluesman. Ya gotta feel where you're going with IT. You just can't fake it. Good Luck
Answer to:
I'm not the flashiest or most technical guitar player, but I really do LOVE the guitar. Is flashiness or technical ability all that matters nowadays, or can someone who lacks the ability to "shred" but who genuinely loves to play still be appreciated?
Some of the best Blues songs are amazingly simple. Granted, Blues aint no aggressive metal song, but you have to start somewhere. Work on your scales, Major and Minor chords, and practice. I've been told that if you want to learn something on the guitar play it atleast 1,000 times.

Why Aren't Oil Companies Drilling? (CBS Evening News reported that US oil companies are only exploring one-third of U.S. land they have rights to)
Oil companies are exploring "leases" that are the most promising first. Exxon is following the competition by paying dividends to it's investors, true
The government is not in the business of selling leases for "mineral rights" without allowing them to be developed. However, the oil companies are actively developing the promissing area's of these leases.

How do I set my amp to sound like Metallica?
This is exactly the setup that James Hetfield used on quite a quite a few tunes.
Chorus, level=65% speed=50% depth=75% hi eq=50%
Distortion, level=50% low=60% middle=25% hi=50%
Depending on you pedals you may need to tweak these setting a bit. However, The pedals themselves are a Chorus and a distortion. I prefer Boss padals myself. Good luck.

Sorry, way too broad a question. Try learning a few "scales" and just start picking while hitting only the notes in the scale. I have found that if you can repeat a series of notes more than once, you just might be making music.

Ibanez nut here. Sorry, Ibanez did not begin manufacturing their own guitars till 65. Before this date they we're known for lots of different instruments just not guitars.
The truth about the name Ibanez is that the name was purchased by a rich japanese business man that wanted to sell instruments in the US. This was during World War 2. The value of a NON Japanese name for his product...

Any tips for buying a good electric guitar?
Buying a first guitar is not that complex. Now with respect to all the other answers. A salesman will talk you into what he has too much of in stock. A friend might be a good source of advice. Your favorite artist is an even better source of advice. However, ultimatley it's up to your ears and hands. The guitar has to sound like you want it to and the neck has to feel like you want it...

Way too difficult to put into words by anyone. Go to your guitar store, plug them in, and play them. These two pedals are in what I call "the time altering" pedals category. By far the most complex efects pedals out there. I'm not even gonna try and put their sounds into words.

Do i have to learn the basic chords to play guitar? My friend didn't even learn the basic chords and can play songs. while i cant play anything except 1 scale and 3 chords.
YES. Here are the basic first posistion chords you really need to know.
Major A,C,D,E,F,G
Minor A,D,E,G
There are some other "types" of chords that make a whole lot more sense after you learn these. I've pasted in a link for a good online chord finder, stick to first position(the first 4 frets) and go from there.

Answer to:
What should I buy - electroacoutic or electric guitar? I can´t decide - can you tell me some advantages and disadvantages of each?
Electric is easier on the hands, I usually recomend electric to beginners. Semi-hollow and hollow bodies fall into the same group as electrics. That is they use the same type of string. The string, not the guitar, is what beats up your fingers. Acoustic is the toughest on your fingers.
A beginner should play an instrument that will give the greatest satisfaction with the least effort....

Power supplies are solid state, can't make noise on and off. More likely it's a cooling fan. This wont hurt I promise. Place your fingertip on the center of each of your fans to stop it from spinning. When the noise stops you've found it.

What if there is no infinity?
The concept of finte or infinite is one I argued in college many times. The idea of the infinite is pretty simple. "Y=2/x". The number that "x" is equal to can never be zero. In our everyday life things seem concrete and FINITE. Many argue that space is infinitely small. Such that the big bang did happen and that the universe is boundless.

Are the EMG 81 and 85 pickups a good replacement choice for a gibson sg?
If your Gibson is worth some money, I'm not sure it's a good idea. Another factor to consider is the lack of feel you'll have with the EMG's. They either produce sound or they don't, no soft tones in between. Before you do the swap, Go to a shop and play an EMG equipped guitar. This is the only way to know what the pickup feels and sounds like. Good Luck!

Concept of voluntary moral behavior in relation to police abuse
I've always understood that Voluntary moral behavior was by well... voluntary. As for police abuse, I'm not sure I can make a dependant relationship with the two. I see morality as something inate to the indavidual. I see the real problem of police abuse in any form something that cannot "force" use to become more moral.

In music, is "key" (example "A minor") the same thing as "pitch?
Here's the blunt answer:
A note is generally refered to as something written on the page. A pitch is something you hear. A Key refers to all pitches major or minor in that key.
OK, that's a bunch of stuff. I believe what you mean is that key refers to the base note or chord of a piece of music or a song. Pitch refers to the sound you hear when playing your instrument.

This is easy! Look at the base of the back of the headstock. If its a real Gibson it will have a serial number engraved in the wood. All Gibsons have this number and its allways their. No Luthier in his right mind would sand off, its a very deep engraving, this valuable number. With it the guitar is worth more money, alot more. Without, its not a Gibson.

Skinny string will buzz at lighter tensions while heavier ones will play cleaner. Probably won't hear it in the amp though. I play the heaviest strings I can, 13's. The sound you get from heavier strings will have a better "tone" than lighter ones but are harder to play.
Answer to:
Why does my Guitar sound dull when in tune, and dull and muddy with distortion? The only way I get any real playability is to to tune 1/2 step higher than a standard tuning when the strings have more tension. Whats wrong with my guitar?
One obvious answer that rams me right in the face is pickup height. If your pickups are too low the will have a muddy sound. While to high may overdive everything. There really isn't much to adjusting their height. You won't break anything. If you bring them up too high the sound will resonate a little. Too low and that muddy sound creeps in and volume will be an issue. Next adjust...

What is the difference between a solid body and a hollow guitar, and does it make a difference in the guitars sound?
Most hollow body electric guitars start out like a small acoustic guitar. Usually the have "F" holes instead of a big round hole. Solid body construction is as the name says. I have an Ibanez solid body "les paul" and an Ibanez full hollow body both with the same pickups. The hollow body has a lighter sound with much less sustain while the solid body is much bassier with a...

Is it worth it to spend the cash on a real Gibson guitar instead of it's far less salty counterpart the epiphone?
Ther is a difference. The Gibson neck is better than the Epiphone. To it's all about the neck. Gibson's are made in the USA. while Epiphones are made in China. Nevertheless, Epiphone has some Gibson quality guitars in the $500.00 range. Still when it comes down to it, you really need to feel and play the guitars. There is not substitute for playing all the guitars that interest you....

Can anyone recommend me some good electric guitars?
DO NOT BUY A JAPANESE REPLICA ON EBAY!!!! Buy from a store. Ebay will not fix problems, answer question or help you down the line. The guitars on Ebay are coppies of expensive guitars. I bought one in my younger years and it is on the wall. It looks nice but there are details that are blemished. The pickupps and the neck are of poor quality. The most important thing in a guitar purchase,...

My boyfriend plays guitar. Has amps, guitar picks, cases. etc. What should i get him to show that i support him with his guitar playing?
Strings can be purchased at the big .com stores in a 10 pack for $40.00. Picks as well. Talk to the guys he plays with and find out the brand and guage of strings, same goes for picks. A nifty clamp on tuner is nice. Mine cost about $20.00 at the local shop and I take it everywhere. If he has mentioned any parts or things he wants just listen but don't let on that you are and buy it. I...

I'm new to playing the guitar and I want to get a versitile metal affects pedal that can play good highs, meaty lows, is inexpensive, but not cheep quality
Boss pedals are what I use. There are many sources to get new and used ones, I buy from Guitar Center on line. As for flexability, Boss has 4 or 5 high gain pedals. Go to a Boss dealer and try them with your guitar and with your other pedals in line. As for used pedals, I would only buy from a dealer, not ebay. This is the only way to easilly deal with a defective product. Be carefull.

How long do you think someone should be practising acoustic guitar before moving onto playing electric guitar?
I strongly dissagree with some of you. Playing one will make you better on the other. As I said, I am self taught in Blues and find switching makes me a more flexible musician with stronger more tactile hands. Anyone recommending one or the other is simply selling you and themselves short.
Answer to:

Been playing for 5 years now. I play both and learned that way. It's a your own choice. The electric is way easier on the fingers though.

If you have no natural musical talent, but you want to learn play an instrument, which instrument would be a good one to start learning on?
Kris,
Please do not limit yourself to the other answers for this question. The closest to having any type of natural ability for any instrument would be having plain old regular "accurate and dextareous " fingers.
The piano, guitar, drums.. Just because someone picked up any instrument quickly, does not mean they are gifted either through great hands or feel the music as it is...

Answer to:
How do u get the sound stevie ray vaughan had out of a zoom g1x pedal?
Big Stevie fan here. Stevie Ray Vaughan did not use a lot of effects. For Vodoo Chile he used a simple Wah and, to me, a simple Blues driver from Boss. Other than that he took advantage of gorilla strength hands and ran 13's (the foundation of his monster tone)on all of his guitars. I run 12's on my Ibanez Prestige 5470, let me tell you ya need strong hands but the tone is worth it.
Answer to:
If you have no natural musical talent, but you want to learn play an instrument, which instrument would be a good one to start learning on?
As I all ready said. Go to the music store and walk around. Listen to the different instruments and talk with the people playing them. Don't be afraid to play them all either. Again, anyone stating that one instrument will be better than another(for you)is simply selling you short.

Answer to:
Someone said that it is easier and quicker to learn guitar if you teach yourself, without an instructor. They said it will get really frustrating with an instructor.this true?I want to learn how to play electric, should I teach myself or get a instructor?
Goods answer Tim. However, some never develope an "ear". I learned almost completely by ear. I have spent all my life listening to the blues though. Eveyone needs some theory, no matter how good you are. Everytime I play with anyone, I need to know where we are starting at(what key.) It's also important to understand different rythms, cords and baswic song structure. Good luck.

Oh man, got to the music store on a weekend and watch & listen to all the instruments. Anyone telling you to go strait for the bass guitar is an idiot. Think about it, I know a lot of guitar players. Never met one who could play without any instruction. You are reading this mssg from someone who took a minimum of lessons. I got away with this because I have a good ear and I listen to...
Answer to:
Is there any difference between a Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster apart from the shape? Do they sound any different?
OK, Strats have a 21 fret neck, Gibsons a 22 fret neck. The length of a neck is completely based on the number of frets, nothing else. To determine the length from nut to bridge(this is basic physics) the length for nut to 12 fret ALWAYS is the same as the legth from the 12 fret to the bridge. The two things that govern how tight a string is are the length of the scale(21,22or 24 frets) and...
Answer to:
I am looking at purchasing an amp to play death metal through, wondering if anyone can suggest a quality one, that wont cost more than $2500
First, decide on how much "AMP" you need. A 100 watt will not sound good in a bedroom. The tubes just won't get saturated(electrons flowing around in the tubes)at lower volumes. Where a 5 watt amp sounds great in a samll area, it wont have the volume to do a small club. After that you need to listen to the amp. Tone is the most important consideration after wattage. Remeber,...

Ibanez, Fender, or Gibson?
Single coils "pop" they have Brighter sound, like a bell. Hummbuckers have a lot more gain and and are generally used for rock and metal. Tremolo bridges are used by everyone spring balanced with that weird arrm sticking out. Now a hard tail, like a les paul gives more sustain. I play Blues and use my tremmolo a lot and my Ibanez is a custom with Fender Texas
Specials. I do all...

Answer to:
Is there any difference between a Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster apart from the shape? Do they sound any different?
There's a huge difference. Gibsons almost always have humbucking pickups and a bridge that's solidly mounted. Gibson is known for thier aggressive, darker tone. Fenders have a much lighter 'bell' tone to them. Generally speaking, heavy metal and hard rock musicians use humbuckers while blues artists play single coil pickups, which are more often found on Fenders.

Any tips for buying a good electric guitar?
Once you find the right style of guitar you need to look at the Neck, the neck and finally neck. After you are happy with the way the neck feels move on to the pickups and finish. Nothing is more important than the neck. You can always change out the pickup.

How do i find out what size Bigsby to get for my Ibanez AXD83P Artcore semi-hollow?
A Bigsby is a trademark for the company bearing its name. A long time ago, atleast about 1950 I think. They came up with the first tremollo for a guitar. Here's a link for their website. Some folks call the "vibratos" others just call the tremollos. In my opinion they do the same thing. For you Ibanez semi-hollowbody a B-7 might work. Be carfull though, if everything...

I have a Ibanez GAX70 and a Marshall Valvestate VS15. My question is how i can make a heavy metal or thrash metal with this amp?
Don't listen to people that say your' amp or guitar are not good or loud enough. The only thing you really need are a set of pedals, two will do the job. Go to your local guitar shop and buy(I prefer Boss)a high gain ML-2 pedal and a digital Reverb RV-5 pedal. Another point to be made is of quality not quantity. 15 watts is plenty, even for a small club. If you like the tone of...

Actually I didn't know I was playing the blues until several people said, "hey that sounds kinda bluesy".
