Why isn't it easy being green? No. It isn't hard to do. Reducing your carbon footprint takes some attention and diligence, but many things can be done to start and help out. Some things are cheap or free if you don't count your labor. Some things might add some cost to your lifestyle. And some might cut into your lifestyle. I am contemplating having children, yet can think of no good reason to have them. It seems impossible to do something for a person that doesn't exist yet. As the market depends on the confidence of the investors, I would say it may not be dead, but it sure has been wounded. Aren't "non-bid" contracts unethical? The queston is too broad to address every type of contract and situation out there. I am sure there exist an ethical reason to no-bid a contract. Generally though the concept does seem to be used unethically.

Why doesn't the U.S. offer health care when it is a human right? Health care is not a human right. Rights do not come automatically by just being born.
