Answer to:
Why isn't it easy being green?
No. It isn't hard to do. Reducing your carbon footprint takes some attention and diligence, but many things can be done to start and help out. Some things are cheap or free if you don't count your labor. Some things might add some cost to your lifestyle. And some might cut into your lifestyle. But is isn't hard if you have the right mindset.

Anything can become constitutional if it passes the test in court. Once struck down does not mean it cannot be reformulated in a different package. Just look at the many attempts, failed and successful, to limit abortions over the years.

I have been here my whole life and all I can come up with is what the Leadership wants is sole control. What they are opposed to are Democrats, and anyone else who even hints at having a different view. That's my impression anyway as an ex Republican.

I bet they'd wear their jackets in the White House. And instead of hearing the Right bellyache, we would hear the Left do it. All in all SSDD.

Do you think children are harmed more by seeing adult sexuality or by society's attempts to insulate them from it?
As others have said, it depends on the age and how it is presented. Just pictures or images of naked bodies is not necessarily sexuality.
It's definitely a subject I think most of us agree should be handled at a certain age and not before. We did it by answering the questions as they popped up. And as our daughter grew, they changed from generalities to more specific answers as she...

Screw what people think. If my kid was misbehaving in public, I took care it then, not back at the car, or when we got home. Most adults who are parents can tell pretty quickly if what you are doing is over the top.

Good question. I have often wondered about the insane amount of redundant programs coming out of different agencies. Consolidation would trim costs. But neither party wants that. Regardless of the big lie the Republicans use about being for smaller governement, they owe too many people for their power to do more than just feed the idea lip service.

Anyone who makes their judgement of a whole country or culture from the brief vision of one place or act, is not being very objective. But those folks who do this generally have formed opinons before the fact anyway. I would say after watching India grow and prosper these last 50 years, the movie is hardly representative of the whole country. It just is not logical to think that.

Should the "Equal Time", "localism", Fairness Doctrine, whatever you want to call it be seriously considered in DC, I would stand opposed to it. And I have been labeled a "Liberal" by many on this site.

This was inspired by that bonehead ranting on the floor of the stock market. In the background his rant is being cheered on by who? People who work in the stock market. If I am turning a deaf ear to anyone's whining and complaining it would be the people who had some part in creating this mess in the first place.
So no, I would not participate. It's political theater designed...

Yeah some work the system. And no, I don't think most folks are inherently lazy. Most everyone seems to want to feel they have some worth. What's that about? A glimmer of hope that some on the Right are beginning to understand the growing trend of many in this country who do not like spin, facts twisted, and op/ed peices being presented as factual news. Kudos to Tucker. He took it to the heart of the Right.

What U.S. federal program/agency do you think that we should cut to help save our debt? and why? my answer would be NASA
First of all, cutting the 2009 $17.9 Billion budget(Bush Budget) for NASA is not going to save us from our debt. We have dug ourselves way too deep a hole for that amount of money to make even a dent.
Secondly, dismantling it would possibly mean 300,000 more people out of work. I assume this number is NASA employees and the ones in the private sector who work for the contractors NASA hires.

A few parents I babysit for drop their kids off 30 minutes before I open. I'm not even out of bed yet. I asked them to stop (my policy says I open at 7, not 6:30) but they said no, they have to get to work. How should I proceed? I need the job!
As others have suggested offer an early drop off but make it worth your while. If it is priced high enough, I bet many will not do it as much.

What is the funniest thing you've seen on a bicycle?
At the Mt. Snow NORBA mtn bike races, there is the naked crit in the parking lot at night during the weekend. Anyone can race as long as they are buck naked. More often than not everyone involved is drunk. It is hilarious.

There was a seperate race for the women. Called the Le Tour Féminin. Unofficially it was considered the Tour de France for women.
But the real deal has always been a male only event.
Answer to:
Why do you see people running along side the riders in the tour of calif. dressed in outfits fit for holloween?
It's the cycling equivalent of the half naked dudes at football games wearing odd headgear in 20degree weather with the number of their favorite player painted in team colors on their distended bellies. It has become a tradition. Seems it is mandatory that consuming copious amounts of alcohol are required for both types of fans.

Why are some people against having a mormon president?
I find the focus on the religion of a candidate to be counterproductive to our progress as a nation. The idea of religion, for and against only convolutes and makes it harder to make good choices. Based on whose values? Suicide is not only considered ethical in some societies but also a very honorable thing to do. If one follows the Bible, no I guess it is not ethical. Is it ethical to stay in a marriage after love is dead?

Eric Holder, the new US Attorney General recently referred to the US as "A Nation of Cowards". Is this all you know about his speech? Do his words ring true?
Not an answer but a link to his speech - http://www.truthdig.com/eartotheground/item/20090218_attorney_general_on_race_america_is_a_nation_of_cowards/
Now it looks like the link is in the question. There are some confusing little features in this AB site sometimes. I'll figure it out eventually.

This type of severe economic situation has been building for years. Many Presidents and many congresses combined with greedy financial people have over the years created what we have now. Seeking to blame one person or one party is wrong. This was a group screw up and we the people helped.

When fuel climbed through the roof, I made a decision to drive slower to save fuel. Why do old men wear their pants higher than young men do?
I have pondered this before. I figure it must have something to do with the chemical changes in the brain as they age. I have no problem with people owning guns because they will no matter what I think. This horse left the barn ages ago. Laws against them will only create more criminals. Just like the War on Drugs, anti gun legislation will not work. Americans it seems love their weapons. But I also do not beleieve the second amendment was written with how it is being used today as it's main thrust.

I think a parent intent on passing on their values should do what they think is right. Personally we did not. We waited until our daughter could make the choice for herself and then respected that choice.
As to teaching them a religion other than th eone th eparents practice, well, that would just seem odd I guess.

If our guns were taken, do you think it would INCREASE or DECREASE the crime rate and why? How would people who OBEY the law & not own a weapon, be able to protect themselves against robbers, gang members, ect who are still going to own illegally anyway?
I do not think gun ownership has much of an impact on deterring crime as a statisitic. Economic and social conditions changing I think have more of an impact in both directions. Owning a gun does not ensure no one will try to rob you. It is a false security in my opinion. Sure you hear of the occasional save by a gun owner, but the overall advantage still remains with the attacker.

It's a classic problem. One that no one can sort out for you. To be okay, you must feel whatever decision you make is "right" for you. While Abortion is one alternative, it carries the risk of possibly loading you up with guilt later on. I echo Lori's sentiment and would suggest serious consideration of going full term and giving your baby up for adoption. It would...

How can you tell if you are liberal, conservative, democrat, etc. by what you believe and practice in daily life?
Let someone else do it for you. They will anyway. I have been labeled one or the other depending on th eissue or the severe test I may have failed with my opinion. Labels mean nothing. Go with what you feel is right but don't pigeonhole yourself. Sometimes you get trapped with company you might not want to keep.

And our culture feeds this idea with an over the top focus on meaningless surface qualities in our humanity.

I don't consider it anything but what it is. An arbitrary marker we just have to use to mark our passage from the cradle to the grave.
When I was 10, 15 was old. When I was 20, 30 was old. When I was 30, 50 was old. I am 56 now and I gotta say, 65 is not looking all that old at this point. But 40 is looking almost pre-pubescent.

Who else will agree with me that there should be at least no negative ratings for any question! A '0' itself says a lot!
http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/397490.
Maybe a downrate should only be made if a mandatory comment was made to explain the downrate. And while I am thinking about it, maybe any rating of any kind should require a comment explaining why. Anonymous rating is like talking behind someone's back. It's cowardly. If you have an opinion, express it.
When I first got here, I really did not understand this whole rating...

Change? Was disaster the "change" you had in mind?
You presume facts not in evidence if you are talking about anything Obama has done or not done. Any disaster we have right at this moment is a direct result of the previous years of stupid economic policy going back 25 years at least. So before you paste the disaster sign up on Obama's tenure, give him a chance to wrinkle the sheets a little. He may blow it, but he has not been in long...

I would guess they cannot refuse it by law. They can only oppose it when debating and voting.

What were the circumstances that lead up to the "second oath taking" for Chester Arthur and Calvin Coolidge?
Both of them took over as President after a President died. Arthur replaced Garfield who was assasinated. Coolidge replaced Harding who died of "natural" causes. Both of them took the original oaths far from the gilded halls of DC and took second oaths once they hit town, "just to make sure".

Usually the Victors of a war get the spoils of war. Why don't we (U.S.A) recieve any spoils of war from Iraq to help our economy? I'm not a supporter of the war but I would like to benefit from it similar to the way our economy did after ww2.
Well if you want us to benefit in a similar way to how we benefitted after WWll, then you are getting your wish. We paid out billions after that war and we are doing the same now. Giving is it's own reward. Enjoy.

Why are the men at the Alamo considered heros for fighting for their independence while the men who fought for the Confederacy not considered heros by many, even though they were also fighting for their country and it's freedom.
Anyone that matters sees heroes on both sides. Anyone who contends the South had none do not know squat about the conflict.

How was Martin Luther King Jr and malcolm X beliefs different?
If I am not mistaken the basic difference was Martin Luther King Jr wanted inclusion into white society. Malcom X was not interested in inclusion but segregaton with equal rights. X had no interest in making it in the white world. He was positive Blacks could do it on their own as long as the playing field was level.
Funny thing, but I admire both of them for different reasons.

How did nationalism affect the Austro-Hungarian Empire during World War One?
Well since it was some crazed nationalists who shot Franz(?) and started WWl, the effect of nationalism was profound. For when the War was over in 1918, the AH empire was broken up. I would say nationalism was their downfall.
I have heard that much of recent troubles in that area can be directly linked to the break up that happened in 1918. Those people have hated each other for seems...

Do you notice Liberals get more angry then Conservatives when you question their ideology?
I would say both sides have their over the top advocates. You only seem to notice the Left when they get fired up I would guess. I grew up in a very conservative family where politics was a no holds barred situation. I witnessed many instances of family members working themselves into a frenzy when they thought their beliefs were threatened. Foaming at the mouth happens on both sides of the...

It does make one wonder doesn't it? I think these guys go on automatic when being questioned. Over the years I am sure he has learned when a special prosecutor is sniffing around, make the first thing you do is deny it, then ask for immunity for anything you might say. Standard stuff. Good question. I liked it.

Well first of all it was not the Auto workers who flew in. It was upper management. Get your facts straight. And no I have no problem with Obama using Air Force One. Would you expect him to fly coach? The two situations are not even close to being a decent comparison.

I have heard rumblings that class warfare is breaking out all over the globe. Do the wealthy in America have anything to fear?
Any culture that has no middle class or a shrinking middle class such as we do should be acutely aware of the possibility of what you call class warfare. Thankfully our set up is still conducive to allowing the middle class to gain back much of what it has lost. So I don't think the wealthy have to worry about much more than having some of their wealth trimmed. If they were smart they...

Actually the VP is not technically appointed, hired, or even chosen. The Vice Presidency is still considered an elected office even though he comes in with the President. The American Dream is the millions of dreams we all have for that better life. We don't own it. It is shared by I would imagine anyone capable of creating a thought.
