Answer to:
Is the American political system broken?
At some point, and I'm not exactly sure when, American Statesmen became politicians. The Utilitarian concepts, tempered by protections for minorities, were a brilliant part of the Framers' work. Somewhere along the line those Utilitarian concepts gave way to an avaricious grab for power and both the majority and the minorities have suffered. The perfect example of this lies in the current...

Would Allowing Students to Carry Weapons Make College Campuses Safer?
Just like "guns don't kill people, people kill people", guns don't make people safer, people make people safer. Gun rights activists operate under the dilusion that merely possessing and carrying a handgun will solve all the violent crime problems in America. One must question this theory in light of the fact approximately 30,000 Americans die annually as a result of gunshot wounds. The...

Is the good of the many better than the good of the one? What if you are the one in question?
Excellent question. We have the benefit of knowledgeable writing on this very subject from the Founding Fathers. Hamilton, Jay, Jefferson and Madison wrote a series of articles published un the name "Publius" contemoraneously with the drafting of the U. S. Constitution. Today this body of work is called the "Federalist Papers".
In Federalist 10, James Madison addresses the very issue you...

If Obama can't secure the borders or contain an oilspill, why doesn't he at least stay out of the way of the governors who make an effort?
Somehow, and I remain curious just how, the recent oil spill has been laid at the feet of President Obama. The fact he had virtually nothing to do with the drilling or the accident which caused this tradgedy has apparently escaped those critics who insist on continuing to place the blame on the current White House resident. I will be considerably more informed on this matter when this quizzical...

What is the point in insulting anyone's intelligence or ability to reason in a discussion of beliefs?
I have discovered when persons engaged in discussions begin to offer ad hominem attacks instead of rational discussion on the topic, they have run out of cogent ideas leaving nothing but personal insults. The discussion moves from one of rationality to one of "I must win at all cost". When this transformation occurs the discussion or debate is over for me.

Asking this because nobody wants Obama for 4 more years that has a brain or pays taxes.
I have a brain and I pay taxes, but I don't see anyone in the Republican camp qualified to be president. Politicians are supposed to do the right thing and not the popular thing, so I don't really think Obama's popularity is of particualr interest to him, nor is it to me. If that were true, then no person charged with a crime in the United States would, according to Mrs. Cheney's position, be innocent until proven guilty. Instead, we'd have an inquisitional form of jurisprudence where it's the defendant's duty to prove innocence.

It's the dichotomy of the statement that makes it a catchy phrase. A handbasket is normally used to collect flowers, fruits and vegetables, all gentile and peaceful endeavors. It applies to someone who believes he is doing good and, in reality, is causing more harm than good under the guise of a...

I've seen most, if not all, the Soprano's episodes and I think they're portrayed more pathetic than sympathetic. The only thing they exhibit is consistency. They know the life style they've chosen and accept the good and the bad. The good is really good and the bad is as bad as it can be.

The issue of sexuality in marriage is very complicated. There is the old adage that a wife should be a lady in the parlor and a whore in the bedroom. The manner in which men (and sometimes women) handle this seemingly dichotomous situation is to seek refuge in the company of another...

Do you believe in "The Right to bear arms"?
There isn't much controversy among police agencies across the nation in the proper use of deadly force. You, once again, somehow believe that civilians possess the same training and abilities in that regard as do police officers. I can say without fear of...
Answer to:
Do you believe in "The Right to bear arms"?
You, once again, seem to believe the daily experiences and the training of a police officer are the same as an NRA trained civilian. Police officers do panic, but it is considerably less likely since they deal with both armed criminals and armed vigilantes on a daily basis and are trained, and continue to be trained, in dealing with those scenarios.

Do you believe in "The Right to bear arms"?
First, there is no reasonable explanation for that number of deaths. Except for war (perhaps) more people die in the United States from firearms than the remainder of the world- - - combined. Because our paths cross infrequently. When they do, however, the perception of the meaning of that crossing varies. If the perception of the crossing is the same between two people it becomes unnecessary to ask the question, but if the perception differs one person will always ask Why.It is the lessons we learn from the Why which allows us hone our perceptions in preparation for the next crossing.

Faith is the knowledge of some fact or existence when there is no empirical evidence to prove the fact or existence. The most obvious is God, but faith in friends who will, as human beings, defy all odds and perform in a manner which may be against their instincts in certain situations for the support and well being of someone else.

Baseball question #2 ? There are two outs and runner at third. The batter hits a fair ground ball to third and runs to first. . Does the batter get credit for making a hit if he tags first base before the runner at third is thrown out at home? thanks:)
Besides the fact the third baseman makes a mental error in throwing to home instead of first, it's still a fielder's choice.........when the play is over, the batter is not at first base since the inning is over, even if the tag out at home is successful and the inning isn't over, the batter still does not get credit for a hit.

Until a few years ago, AAA contracted with various tow companies in a given area to provide service to their customers. If one was busy, they could call another to provide the service. AAA then changed their policy and purchased trucks of their own and thus decreased the availability at any given moment. The service has remained the same, but the response time has increased noticeable.

The first thing I would check for is obstructions. Some systems are equipped with electric eyes which prevent the door from closing when the eye is blocked, or perhaps there's something in the track which activates the safety system.

Is evil a natural trait or something that has to be developed?
While I don't discount hereditary influence, I believe the vast majority of behavior is developmental. An integral part of parenthood is the instillation of social and cultural mores and the sense of respect for them. If that important task is neglected or improperly conveyed the result is an adult lacking the developmental basis for responsible citizenship in any culture or nationality.

You question is predicated on facts either not in evidence or highly disputed. The fact you've taken this information as gospel makes any rational, cogent answer virtually impossible. I don't believe any "pure" paradigm could or has existed. The combination of Capitalism and Socialism immediately post WWII led to a period of prosperity. Regardless of the label placed on one's religion, the belief in some Higher Power is, most assuredly, a very personal matter. To impose your beliefs on them or to make judgments on the beliefs of others is entering a very personal part of their lives uninvited. Certainly in my case, that invasion is a sign of insecurity in your own beliefs and unwarranted.

I am about to be made bankrupt but I also own a quarter of my elderly mother's home (she still lives there). Will we be forced to sell her home to retrieve the quarter that is owned by me? We live in UK.
I'm not sure about the UK, but based on common law, you most likely have a contingency interest in the house based on the life interest of your mother. As long as your mother is alive you have no vested interest. So, they cannot take the house or interfere with your mother's life interest. Should she die, however, your potion of the value of the house can be attached.

I am less concerned about the age difference than the possibility the 21 year old has become the vehicle through which you have found a solution to an unsatisfying marriage. He is a hero to many Irishmen, but was clearly a terrorist to the British. On the other hand, the Irish considered the British terrorists for their forced occupation of Ireland.

"Victimless" crimes entail some voluntary act on both perpetrators of the crime. That, in and of itself, is not a great impact on society. The ancillary effects are of great impact. Prostitution, drug use and other crimes generally thought to be without a true victim do, however, detrimental to society. The health care of the drug user, the violent crime associated with drug...

The facts here are sketchy, but the basis for arrest, search and seizure is probable cause. The facts of which you may be unaware are the facts or information with which the police were armed prior to your arrest. If those facts establish probable cause, then they did have the right to search your vehicle.

However, the principle of free will allows each individual the option of choosing his way in life, given his developmental...

Your ex-husband cannot stop your emigration to Oz, but he may be able to prevent you from taking the children. The problem you face will, most likely, have to be solved by a court proceeding. The best interests of the children will be the criteria for the decision. If, however, you win and are allowed to take the children with you, the court may decide the distance for visitation is so great...

You know when you let balloons go that are filled with helium. how high do they actually go? And when and why do they start coming down?
Air pressure dictates the size of the balloon. The balloon inflates when the air pressure inside the balloon is greater than the air pressure outside the balloon. Helium is lighter than air and therefore rises when released.
As the balloon rises, the outside air pressure decreases and the constant inside air pressure causes the balloon to become larger. The balloon grows in size until the...
