| About me: | UPDATE 2011-09-04: I am really, really, really trying to leave Answerbag and not look back. After a couple of years of attempting to have civil, tolerant, intelligent, fact and evidence based discussions here I have ultimately decided that that they should really change the name of the website to "OpinionBag" or "AgendaBag" because the typical Answerbagger isn't really interested in gaining understanding, or further enlightenment, rather they only want to have what they already think - or more precisely FEEL - is true reality reinforced regardless of facts and evidence to the contrary - and they're going to push that agenda until the end! Therefore, and in my opinion, the slogan for this website should be: "AnswerBag: Because goodness forbid the world should be deprived the benefit of my opinions!" And it's purpose statement: "A fool has no interest in gaining understanding, he only wants to air his opinion - and you can do it here for FREE!" The end result is: 1) A general lack of civil, open minded, tolerance for those of differing opinion. 2) Some of the rudest, most immature, least enlightened behavior I've encountered on the Internet - no, make that ANYWHERE! (some Answerbaggers are downright mean, others are downright cruel, many are downright boorish, only a few are friendly, open-minded, rational, and civil) 3) Chronic, obsessive trolling of members of differing opinion. 4) Mature decorum is insulted, immature snark is applauded. And since I've been here the AnswerBag staff has done very little to improve the mess - it just keeps getting worse and worse and worse. This place is a train wreck! So I'm done! I will be posting no more questions, answers, or comments here. However, I still feel some responsibility to maintain my body of work here so I will still check periodically to service any new alerts that pop up. And when and if they do I will simply service them as quickly as possible and then leave as quickly as possible. So here's a tip: IF YOU DON'T LIKE ME AND/OR DISAGREE WITH ANYTHING I'VE SAID HERE AND WISH TO SILENCE ME THEN DON'T ANSWER MY QUESTIONS, DON'T COMMENT ON ANY OF MY ANSWERS, OR COMMENTS AND DON'T PRIVATE MESSAGE ME: THAT WILL DO IT - YOU'LL NEVER HEAR FROM ME AGAIN. I'm shaking the dust off my sandals, walking away from this sick town, and leaving you all to troll, insult, slur, ad-hominem, cram your opinions down the throats of the unreceptive, speak from ignorance, and, in general, talk past each other to your heart's content! Have a wonderful time airing your opinion and gaining NOTHING in return. Thank you and good-bye. ORIGINAL PROFILE Mr. IT, is a Born Again Christian (a Charismatic Presbyterian to be theologically precise and exacting) and a Mormon Studies Scholar who loves God and hates religion. (and contrary to popular myth and speculation, Mr. IT is not now, nor has he ever been a Mormon) Mr. IT's preferred methodology is to . . . “Prove all things, hold fast to that which is good. Only if you are unafraid of the truth can you find it.” (from “Man’s Search for Happiness”, LdS film strip used by Missionaries in the 1960's and 70's) . . . and he is on a quest to remain on that path and help others to do the same. Further, Mr. IT agrees with Socrates who said: "The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living." -- Socrates Which, to Mr. IT, echoes and complements the following Biblical admonitions: "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you — unless, of course, you fail the test?" -- II Corinthians 13:5 "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD." -- Lamentations 3:40 And AnswerBag offers me this opportunity for daily self-examination - thank you for helping Mr. IT complete his life passage and mission in a way that , hopefully and to the best of Mr. IT's ability, pleases and glorifies God! Beyond that he's a full time computer professional who forays into the worlds of Baseball and music on the nights when he isn't too consumed with his beloved wife and children. He has written music reviews on a professional basis for an international magazine devoted to Christian Worship Music. From another vantage point, his closest friends will tell you that he is probably far too obsessed with Baseball for his interest to be called a 'hobby'. This is evidenced by the number of reviews he has written on the Baseball books that he's read. If you can sense that he's candid, sincere and genuinely likes and enjoys his hobbies and other people - you're right! And, while Mr. IT wishes that he didn't HAVE to say this, please note that while he takes joy and delight in rigorous, civil, and respectful debate and dialog regarding concepts, ideas, and opinions, he will NOT tolerate disrespect, personal attacks, ad-hominem attacks, insults, or any other form of attack directed at the person rather than the subject at hand. Such behavior will be rewarded with the attacker being put on mute and possibly reported to the AB System Administrators. After all, this is supposed to be fun, informative - even trans-formative not personal, hurtful, or cruel. Here are some representative samples on Mr. IT's work on AnswerBag that he is particularly proud of: Q:What would I do if I were the "Mope" (Mormon Pope)? Q: Can Salvation be free if you have to do something to obtain it? Q: How come so many people dislike Latter-Day Saints? (Mormons) Q: Why do TV evangelists promote themselves more than than Jesus, the foundation of their religion? Q: Antagonists of the LDS church often claim it is an evil mind-controling cult. What evil deeds does the church have it's members perform? Q: AGREE or DISAGREE: I would prefer that self-appointed 'Question Cops' would either just answer the question or ignore it - nothing more. Q: What kind of things does the Book of Mormon talk about? I'm curious as a Christian Q: Where exactly did the Book of Mormon come from? And Mr. IT's favorite AB Question that he WISHES that he had asked is: Q: Why do people on Answerbag assume that when I ask a question, I agree with its premise?" Finally, Mr. IT doesn't quite know why but this chorus resonates deeply for him - but he hopes that you dig it! It's my life It's now or never I ain't gonna live forever I just wanna live while I'm alive My heart is like an open highway Like Frankie said, "I did it my way" I just wanna live while I'm alive 'Cause it's my life |
