Estimating using front-end estimation. (1) 724 + 646= (2) 5,350+2,760= (3)794-632= (4) 724-646= (5) 5,450-2,125= (6) 6,240 + 3,780=
(1) 724 + 646 = 700 + 600 = 1300
(2) 5,350 + 2,760 = 5000 + 3000 = 8000
(3) 794 - 632 = 800 - 600 = 200
(4) 724 - 646 = 700 - 600 = 100
(5) 5,450 - 2,125 = 5000 - 2000 = 3000
(6) 6,240 + 3,780 = 6000 + 4000 = 10,000

Graph the linear equation? x=y+3 (2009-12-09)
Given x = y + 3 which is y = x - 3. Since there are no given x or y values, we shall substitute some x values in order to get the y values.
For example:
Sub x = -3:
y = -3 - 3 = -6
Sub x = -2:
y = -2 - 3 = -5
Sub x = -1:
y = -1 - 3 = -4
Sub x = 0:
y = 0 - 3 = -3
Sub x = 1:
y = 1 - 3 = -2
Sub x = 2:
y = 2 - 3 = -1
Sub x = 3:
y = 3 - 3 = 0
You should then get a...

My mother has diabetes and my grandparents too, I am obese and am trying to lose weight because I don't want diabetes. I noticed a tingly burning in my toes. Do I have diabetes? My Mom takes my blood sugar and it's always low, but could I still have it?
Some diabetes patients have low blood sugar due to excessive insulin in the blood. If your mother and grandparents have type 2 diabetes then your chances of getting type 2 diabetes are high (genetic). I would suggest that you get a medical checkup.

Answer to:
Desmond is 6 years old and his father is 5 times as old he is. When Desmond is 20 years old, how many times he will be younger than his father?
Desmond is 6 years old now.
His father is 5 * 6 = 30 years old now.
The difference between Desmond and his father is 30 - 6 = 24 years old.
When Desmond is 20 years old, his father will be 20 + 24 = 44 years old.
Therefore Desmond will be 44 / 20 = 2.2 times younger than his father when he is 20 years old.

For maths, I would suggest to practice the problems often and for theory questions, I would suggest splitting the big chunks into smaller bits by drawing diagrams and describe them in your own words not forgetting sticking to the main points. It is especially useful for scientific theory questions which require your to 'memorize' certain processes.

Q: Assuming that y is a function of x. What is y'=dy/dx for y(x)=sin(3x+4y)?
Implicit differentiation:
Find dy/dx if y(x) = sin(3x + 4y)
Differentiate wrt x.
d/dx sin(3x + 4y) = 0
cos(3x + 4y)d/dx(3x + 4y) = 0
cos(3x + 4y)(3 + 4dy/dx) = 0
3cos(3x + 4y) + 4cos(3x + 4y)dy/dx = 0
4cos(3x + 4y)dy/dx = -3cos(3x + 4y)
dy/dx = -3cos(3x + 4y) / 4cos(3x + 4y)

Answer to:
Verify the identity, (1+sinx)(1-sinx)=1/sec^2x
(1 + sinx)(1 - sinx) = 1/sec^2x
Starting from LHS (left hand side) and expand the algebraic expression:
1^2 - sinx + sinx - sin^2x
= 1 - sin^2x
Since sin^2x + cos^2x = 1
Therefore, cos^2x = 1 - sin^2x
Since cosx = 1/secx
Therefore,
cos^2x = 1/sec^2x

Answer to:
A stop light spends twice as long on red as it does on green in a day(24 hours). Assuming there is no yellow lights how long does it spend on red and green?
red light hour = 2 * green light hour
assuming red light hour + green light hour = 24 hours
Let 2x = red and x = green and total hours = 24:
x + 2x = 24
3x = 24
x = 8
red = 2x = 2 * 8 = 16
green = x = 8
Therefore, the total hours spend on red light is 16 hours and 8 hours on green light.

Simultaneous equation using substitution:
eg:
2x + 3y = 6 -> (1)
x + y = 2 -> (2)
from (2): x = 2 - y -> (3) -> we can also use y = 2 - x, likewise we can also use (1) but since (2) is 'simpler', we use (2) instead.
substitute (3) into (1):
2(2 - y) + 3y = 6
Solve for y:
4 - 2y + 3y = 6
4 + y = 6
y = 6 - 4 = 2
y = 2 -> (4)

The car’s acceleration is 9430 mi/hr^2. Show the steps to convert this acceleration to 1.17 m/s^2. A helpful conversion factor is that 1760 yd = 1 mile. 9430 mi/hr^2 x (0.914 m/yd) x (hr/3600 s)2 = 1.17 m/s^2. Can anyone help me out? I have no clue!
I do not know why you need to convert to yard but anyway, here's what I did. Hope it helps. =)
Converting 9430 miles/hr^2 to 1.17 m/s^2:
1 mile = 1609.344m
1 hour = 3600s
Therefore:
(9430miles/hr^2 * 1609.344m) / (3600s * 3600s) = 1.17m/s^2

Digit C is one more than digit A, which is twice digit D, which is 10 less than digit A plus 8. Digit B is digit A+C+D minus 2. What is the four digit number?
I think the answer is this:
C = 1 + A
A = 2D
D = A - 10 + 8
B = A + C + D - 2
A = 2(A - 10 + 8)
= 2A - 20 + 16
= 2A - 4
A - 2A = -4
-A = -4
A = 4
C = 1 + A
= 1 + 4
= 5
D = A / 2
= 4 / 2
= 2
B = A + C + D - 2
= 4 + 5 + 2 - 2
= 9
Therefore, the four digit number of ABCD is 4952

1) Given:
V = 60litre or 0.06m3 (SI unit), D = 420mm or 0.42m (SI unit)

In music, what is romanticism?
A great way to understand Romantic period music would be by doing a simple comparison. Pick a Haydn's or Mozart's (Classical period music) piano sonata and compare with a Chopin's. Piano sonatas comparison is simpler than comparing with concertos or symphonies.

What was the motive in Beethoven's fifth Symphony. How is it worked out within the framework of sonata form?
I would think the main motif for Beethoven's Symphony no. 5 in C minor 1st movement is the first two bar consisting of G-G-G-Eb and F-F-F-D.
I am not able to comment professionally regarding the symphony's framework but since most classical period sonata form is in the form of AABA and also the first movement is in allegro which probably is similar to allegro sonata form.

Answer to:
How do u do completing the square of x2-10x+16
x2 - 10x + 16 = 0
x2 - 10x = -16
x2 - 10x + 25 (10/2 then square it) = -16 + 25
Edit: Typo error: (x - 5)^2 = 9 (convert to the square form)
Edit: Typo error: x - 5 = +-square root(9) -> +-3 (since this is a quadratic equation, there are 2 roots)
Edit: Typo error: Solving for x -> x = 5 + 3 = 8 or x = 5 - 3 = 2
Edit: Typo error: Therefore, x = 8 or 2

Can anybody list for me the albums on which John Coltrane had played alto sax? yes, I did say alto
I own an album by Johnny Hartman (album name: "Collection: 1947-1972 by Johnny Hartman").
The songs "My One And Only Love" and "Lush Life" were sung by Johnny Hartman featuring John Coltrane but I'm not too sure whether John Coltrane played the alto sax in that album or not.
Nevertheless, I love the duo collaboration. IMHO, I think it is simply perfect!
