This is most likely the laser getting covered with dust or just won't work anymore simply because of age and wear and tear. Check the laser if you can and clean it with a cotton swab. and pop a disk in to see if it works. If it doesn't then it's the lasers inability to read a disk, in which case...

The fishhooks, I can make my own string out of something in an island, I can make my own bed out of leaves and trees, I can probably find a freshwater stream or small lake on the island for tea instead of coffee.
