How do you communicate with other drivers without using your finger?
There's this really cool thing called a horn, and another called a blinker, and another called brake lights. Using those I can tell people that I am going left, or right, or stopping, or that they are an idiot. I never use my finger. Polite people never make that offer in public.

Answer to:
When is the most recent time you fell down, I mean flat out on the floor?
About a month ago. I went pounding down the stairs full speed sock-footed in the dark. The carpet ends three steps up, with the last three steps being polished hard wood. Poor decision. The resulting noise brought my worried family from bed, only to make fun of me as I lay there, once they found out no one was dead.

Just because you aren't a good test taker doesn't mean you won't be successful in life. It just means you are not good at regurgitating useless information in a timed, stressful setting. Life is not a standardized test. History has shown that only rarely is the valdictorian as successful in life as a motivated, average student.

If fired and glazed, the clay will still expand and contract with temperature change, but it will take longer to crack as the glaze...

Often the way non-believers turn into believers is through surviving something they never should have survived. God has a plan for everyone. When you rent a church for your wedding, will there be someone from the church there to supervise your wedding?
Depends on the church.
Answer to:
who else thinks its rude if someone sayd they are bringing a date (without us saying he can bring anyone) and telling us
If it is just to the wedding, it doesn't make much difference, although it is a social faux pas. If it is to the reception, that is totally unacceptable. Tell him the price you are having to pay per person, and tell him you will need that much apiece for each person he is bringing beyond that, as the caterer is only planning for the set amount. He will probably never speak to you again, but...

Getting married in Baptist church, does not allow dancing. Mother in law is throwing a fit - what do I do?
If your mother-in-law wants to dance at a wedding, let her get married again. This is your wedding and your reception. She can dance some other time. Of course, you can't say that to her. Just tell her, "I'm sorry, but they do not allow dancing in the church". That's all you have to say. Don't argue - just keep repeating. Don't justify - just keep repeating. Don't discuss other venues or...

Don't You Hate The Feeling Of Getting Older
Actually, I hate the idea of not getting older. As long as I'm getting older, I'm still alive and kicking. I prefer to spend my time happily doing exactly what I want to do, not worrying about that I am getting older or what other people think of me. As I teach school, I never look at the kids and envy them. I look at them and feel sorry for the pain and suffering they go through as they...

Why do tornados seem not to hit big cities, like, Dallas, Milwaukee, Chicago, Orlando, Seattle, St. Paul, Los Angeles, San Francisco?
A tornado hit Fort Worth downtown several years ago. Arlington, Texas, another large metropolitan area, gets hit often, as do Norman, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City. They can hit anywhere. Part of the reason tornados do not strike large metropolitan areas often is due to the make-up of the tornado itself. Tornados are formed along the squall line where a warm air mass meets a cold air mass....

My mom didn't like to waste anything, so if bologna slices were going bad, she would fry them and serve with eggs.
My mother washed and reused both paper towels and aluminum foil. I can't remember any food ever being thrown out. If there were leftovers, Mother would serve them at subsequent meals until they were finally gone. No food ever was there long enough to go bad. All the children also bathed in the same tub of water - all the way through high school.

I've been to 8 different ENT's for over 30 years. None of them could stop my Chronic ear infections. What should I do?
My mother stopped all of our ear infections by mixing white vinegar and rubbing alcohol half and half and putting a few drops in each ear. The vinegar kills the bacteria; the alcohol dries it out. If you have an active infection, it burns like fire and you think you will die. In maintainance stages, it feels just like water.

Should mothers be allowed to breastfeed in public?
They should be able to feed the baby any time the baby is hungry, just like big people eat when they are hungry. I do think, however, that discretion should be used. It is quite possible to breastfeed without anyone knowing what is going on. There is no reason to flop out a breast and let it dangle all over the place. Snuggle the baby up, put a light blanket over it, and let it eat.

I already gave a shower gift for a weding. I can not afford another gift. Do I still have to give a wedding gift?
In the first place, a gift is never required. In the second place, if you are giving a gift, the wedding and shower are both for the same event - a marriage - and two gifts are not necessary.
Answer to:
Is it okay to give an intended wedding shower gift as the wedding gift if I was unable to attend the shower?
Absolutely.
Answer to:
Do I have to send a wedding gift and a bridal shower gift if I can't attend either?
Once again, an invitation to an event is not a gift request. You are not required to send a gift to either. Send a nice note of congratulations if you do not wish to give a gift and cannot attend.
Answer to:
Ok, I went to the bachelorette party but I can't make the bridal shower. I'm not super close with the bride, but we are friends. Do I still send a gift for the shower? We'll be at the wedding and have a gift for that, as well. What's the etiquette here?
An invitation to an event is not a gift request. You do not even have to take a gift if you go to an event. If you are going to go to the wedding and wish to take a gift, do so. No one expects you to send a gift to a bridal shower you don't attend.
Answer to:
why don't i care about anything?
People tend to care more when they have something for which they feel responsible. It's good to care for friends, but in order to be there for them, you have to be able to be responsible and care for yourself. If you can't motivate yourself to do this, find something you are interested in and be responsible for it.

WHY DOES SOMEONE CONSTANTLY SAY
YOU KNOW AT THE END OF ALMOST EVERY OTHER SENTENCE. IS THIS A LACK OF SELF ESTEEM
It isn't lack of self-esteem. It is just a bad habit. When I'm around a person such as this, every time the person says, "you know?", I say, "no, I don't. Tell me." It usually doesn't take too long for them to catch on to what is happening. Not only does it make them aware of how often they say, "you know", but also it shows them just how annoying it is.

i dont know if i have an infection...just pierced lip
If it swells up, turns red, shrivels, and falls off, you probably have an infection. If you keep it clean, rinse your mouth regularly with salt water (bacteria cannot live in a saline environment), and regularly put alcohol on it, you will probably be okay. People have pierced body parts for centuries with various items, and the human race continues to exist.

How long did you wait before taking your baby out and about for visits and such?
By the third baby, about a week. Strap them on in a snuggie and go on about your life. People have been having babies for eons, and the fact that we are still here show them to be pretty resilient.

Do you "pre-clean" the shared bar of soap in your shower, by lathering and rising it before it touches your body, or do you just start using it without a second thought?
At home, I just use it. If I am spending the night at someone else's house when visiting and am not given a new bar of soap to use, I wash the soap first.

What do you find yourself doing naturally, without a second thought?

How come most coeds who would never be seen on campus or outside their dorm room with out a bra seem to get over it on Spring Break where most don't seem to wear them?
The ones who would never be seen on campus or outside their dorm room without a bra are not seen on Spring Break without a bra either. There are hundreds of thousands of girls who make it through spring break leaving their bras on. You just happen to be in a particularly bra-less place, probably one that includes sand, alcohol, and half-naked guys.

No one wants to date your clothes. Guys are impressed by women who are comfortable with themselves, women who are sincere. Most guys also like women who act like they are interested in the guy, but who aren't clingy and possessive. Just dress nicely and be yourself. Don't play mind games.

Do you often eat even though you are *not* actually hungry or do you tend to eat *only* when you become hungry?
I eat to avoid work, when I'm bored, when I read, and when I'm hungry. I really like eating. I don't eat if I'm depressed or sad. I'm 46 and only weigh 10 pounds more than I did when I graduated from high school. My all time high was 15 pounds more than I weigh now. My weight is on the dot on the charts for my height, gender, and age. Ah - life is good, food is good.

Gluttonous step-son's chicken feast from the family food reserves was witnessed by his mother, today. Her comment was that it was a lot of chicken. Do you think she will wise up, now?
Our children were always allowed to eat whatever was in the house. The same applied when I was growing up. I don't understand buying food then forbidding children to eat it. That makes them sneaky and closet eaters. Then there are the questions. Why exactly is he eating? Is he hungry? Is he bored? My dog was frightened by a container that was dropped from the claw of waste management, and landed right next to him. Ever since, he has been scared of every single loud noise. He has been a nervous wreck for 7 months now. Can I present a law suit?
Do not pet or reassure your dog when he reacts to loud noises. Just continue on your walk, or whatever you are doing. You might even walk in the morning when they are picking up trash. Just walk on by, making him walk on by, too. Petting him when he is calm reinforces calm. Petting him when he is anxious reinforces anxiety. I don't know about a lawsuit. Do women have a shower for 2nd baby and what is the right gift
It is not appropriate to have a shower for the second baby. The purpose of a shower is to provide a new mother with baby supplies. On the second baby, all of those supplies should be in place. For the second baby, people who wish to give a baby gift should do so, but there should be no shower.

It's a little late for my answer, but you always should go if you want to go. You are not required to give a gift, ever. If you know the person well enough to go, she probably has a pretty good idea of your financial situation. If you want buy a gift, but can't afford much, buy bibs or socks. You can get those for two or three dollars. Showers are not a contest for who can spend...

When you see a Muslim woman in the supermarket all wrapped up in black - head to toe, and you can only see her eyes, what comes to your mind first?
I bet she's hot. (The I-think-I'm-going-to-melt hot, not the smokin' hot.) Then I think, wouldn't that be nice for those bad-hair or woke-up-late days?
Answer to:
If I live in Colorado and things are going wrong at home and my mom said to me "you're lucky that I am not kicking you out that door right now" can I leave the house for a couple of weeks and then see how things are working out without my parents knowing?
Consider that you are lucky they aren't kicking you out the door right now, and buckle down. You have the rest of your entire life to pay your own way and make your own rules. If you are smart, you will live with your parents, playing by their rules, as long as you can while you save your money, so that when you do get out on your own you will be able to make it.
Answer to:
Could it ever be worth it to never tell your parents you're an atheist? If I told them, they wouldn't just "freak-out", they'd physically confront me, take away my tuition, even kick me out. Right now, I'm thinking, "relax, they'll be dead in 25 years..."
Why is it necessary to tell them at all if you love them? Why ever bring it up? Let them be your delusionally, happy parents. Of course, if your attitude is, "relax, they'll be dead in 25 years", maybe you should let them know so they can spend that tuition money on someone who truly cares about them, and isn't just sitting around waiting for them to die.

Answer to:
Why do men who are more than 30 years old usually tell me compliments like "you're beautiful, you're nice, you're sweet, you're sexy" but never "you're wise, you're interesting, you're realy clever" etc? And I guess, I'm not the only one. I'm 21, female.
Because if you were wise, interesting, and really clever, you would be able to spell "really" correctly.

Answer to:
If love/hate are two sides of the same coin, are haters just frustrated lovers?
If you think about the people you know that hate each other, often they are much alike. If you listen to the complaints about the other person, they are often character flaws you can identify in the complainer. I feel, for this reason, that when a person hates another, they are subconsciously reacting to flaws in their own character that they do not feel they can fix.

My 3 year old wants 2 B carried everywhere we go. I have a neck injury that affects my shoulder. If I don't carry her she will throw a fit until I pick her up. I have tried to ignore her, but sometimes she makes me late 4 work. What should I do?
She has you trained. You are supposed to be the adult here. Tell her that big girls walk. Reward her when she acts like a big girl. Start practicing on the weekend so you will be ready during the week. Never give in and pick her up. Hold her by the hand in such a way that it is necessary for her to walk, and do not allow her any alternatives. It is not as much fun to walk with a child...

What should i do? Been married 7 years. last 4 years husband has been physically sick so he is unable to work. He plays games all day and does nothing around house but he is well enough to help out. i have to do everything. we have a 5 year old son.
When my children were in school the rule was: If you are sick enough to stay home, you are sick enough to lie in bed and rest. There were no books, no television, and no games if you were sick. Just rest. I would cause the games to go away. If he is too sick to hold a regular job, but well enough to help out around the house and play games, I would send him out to be a handy man. Women, does anyone have a husband that when asked to help out with things around the house gets REALLLLY MAD, even puts a question on here about marriage being a mistake, all he does is sit on computer 24\7, man I think I need some help here.?
This didn't happen overnight. He has been conditioned that such behavior is okay. If you don't feel capable of retraining him, leave him, because he is being an unreasonable jerk, and even if you have allowed him to act like that, a truly good husband would never reach that level.

Once the child was old enough to strip the bed by himself (age 4), I taught him to strip the bed, bring down the sheets, put them in the wash, and start the washer. I'd move them to the dryer and in the evening he would remake his bed. There was never any scolding or yelling. Just matter-of-fact if you wet the bed you will need to wash your sheets. Does it take money to raise a child "right"? If the parent is of low income, does he/she inherently raise a child worse than one of greater means? Why or why not?
No. Some of the best young people I know have come from some of the poorest families. They go on to be successful individuals in their own right and are not dependent on money from papa. Never equate money with quality. Sometimes...

If you are close to the student, for example a relative or child you have known since birth, $50-$100 is pretty normal. If it is just someone that your son knows from youth group, $10-$20 is fine. Keep in mind it is never required that you give a gift. Gifts are always optional.

Should people using wheelchairs be allowed to go to the front of the line at amusements park rides because the accessible entrance has no line?
The main reason for allowing people in wheelchairs to go to the front of the line is that wheelchairs often cannot negotiate the turns and stairs in the lines. Yes, I can. Many teachers throughout history have seen the hidden potential in insecure individuals and have established the lines of communication that allows that talent to blossom. If you were a school principal, what would you do to encourage students, especially those who face social and financial constraints, to stay in school and continue their learning? Suggest some practical strategies with reasons and examples.
I would take a personal interest in their lives, try to check on them each day, and take a few minutes to talk. If there were a large number of such students in my school, I would try to pair each with a mentor, especially one who could provide them with a job that included training and perhaps even money for schooling.

If you have a child or loved one in the military, do you ever become accustomed to them disappearing for weeks or months at a time?
Other than the increased worry factor due to being shot at, it is really no different than when your child goes off to college or gets married and moves to another state. Either way it can be weeks or months at a time between visits. If your child or spouse is in the military, though, many thanks for the sacrifices.

Do you think it's fair to the children who's parents had them when they were older? (Older being anything from 40 on having kids...it isn't old, just older to have kids)? If so why? (My answer below.)
My siblings and I were adopted as babies by parents who were in their 50's. We didn't even know they were old until we got into high school and started noticing. They were a lot more patient than our friends' parents, and saw us all through college and with good jobs. My daddy lived to 85, and my mother to 96. I couldn't have asked for more wonderful parents at any age....
Answer to:
Why do parents judge their kids on what the ids older siblings have done, even then we've proven we won't make the same mistakes?
Parents feel the older ones made those mistakes due to leniency on their part, so they are trying to be more strict in hopes that they can do a better job with you. Try to be patient. They are showing that they truly care about you.

In elementary school in Oklahoma back in the 60's, Friday was candy day. I was taught to do this in second or third grade. One person would buy the peanuts; the other person would buy the coke. We would then share the coke with the peanuts in it. This was before the advent of germs, apparently. We shared everything and no one was concerned.

In diving there is only one diver at a time, and the dives last a second at the most.

Pack her bags and put them by the door. Send her to live with her new boyfriend, her parents, or a girlfriend. She found you to live with, she will find someone else. You can have a constable be there with you to make sure she leaves and all goes well.

Answer to:
How long does it take to get over someone cheating on you if you leave them? How about if you stay?
If you stay, you will never get over it and you will always wonder if it is happening again. If you leave, you have let the person know that such behavior will not be tolerated, and you are deserving of better. Then get you someone better, and you will be over it.

Answer to:
Would it be ok to lie if it saves your relationship?
That is not a relationship you want to be in. Careful wording, however, is okay. For example, in response to "how do you like my haircut", the response can be, "Wow! Look at that! What a style! You look so special I think I want to keep you at home for just me to look at tonight."

Can losing a significant amount of weight (60-70 lbs) cause hair loss, if so what can I do to prevent this from happening?
Once your weight evens out the hair will come back. If you lose weight too fast your body thinks something is wrong and saves nutrients for other things than growing hair.

My young daughter (12) is frustrated with her hair as it is growing back from massive leukemia treatments. It is very thin therefore it is flyaway or staticy all the time. Any suggestions? Would mayonnaise help?
Spray Static Guard on her hairbrush/comb each time she uses it. It eliminates all static and leaves nothing on the hair. Your question was two years ago. I hope she is better now.
Answer to:
I am getting a redo perm and would like to know how much to tip the stylist.
How much more would you have paid her for the work she did than what she charged? How much time did she put into it? How satisfied are you? I generally tip hair stylists 10% or more. If they did a poor job and I don't intend to seek them out again, I don't give them a tip.
Answer to:
How much do you typically tip a waitress for average or above average service? What do you base your tip off of - what can a waitress do to make you tip higher?
If the only time I see the waiter is when he takes the order and brings the check, I refuse to tip. Often anymore a server brings the food and the waiter disappears into a black hole. If I wanted a faceless voice to take my order, I would go to a drive through. If the waiter comes back and checks on the food, checks on drinks, check on desert, and acts like they are at least slightly...

I work at a grocery store as a cashier. What are your biggest pet peeves about grocery stores so I don't do them anymore.
Look at the customer. It is annoying when the checker avoids eye contact as if you are not even there.
Answer to:
A grocery store clerk gives you an extra five dollars at check out. You don't notice it until your in the parking lot loading groceries in your car...What do you do with the extra money?
Take it back to the checker. They are responsible for their drawer coming out even. It could mean their job.
Answer to:
The bagboy at your local grocery store helps you carry your groceries out and place them in your automobile. Do you tip him, and if so how much?
No, I do not. The checker stands on his feet in one place all day, bagged half the groceries himself because the bagger was slowly sauntering over, and put the last several bags in the cart, called the bagger back over to take the cart out, then ran after with the bag the bagger set back on the check out. If I tip anyone, it would be the checker. The baggers were hired to sack and take out...

When do you harvest Swiss charr and cooking tips on how to prepair?
To harvest, just cut it off about three inches from the bottom with a knife or kitchen shears. It won't kill the plant. Wash it very well a leaf at a time. Cook it just like you would spinach - in about an inch of water with the lid on. If the leaves are large you might chop it a little first. Add bacon and some sauteed onions while it is cooking. Drain it and serve it with pepper...

I was having the same problem this summer, too, but the man down the street has a huge harvest. He said to feed it bloom booster and then to spray the blooms that do show up with whiskey. Spray in the evenings, not in the mornings - it will burn. Worked like a charm. - Dallas area, over 100 every day.

I had always enjoyed it, but got into it by accident - I didn't ever want to teach. I thought I might rather do something else -the grass is always greener syndrome - until about five years ago when I realized there was nothing I would rather be doing.

Does the use of big adjectives in insults and the ability to talk in a condescending way to others prove that one is more intelligent and therefore better able to answer questions about God?
Different people have different ways of communicating. Much depends on their speaking/writing style. If I didn't recognize them and they remained there without knocking, I would call the police to let them know there was a weirdo loitering on my porch. I live in a very calm, tame suberb. The police even leave notes on your door if you leave the garage door up at night, or your child leaves his bike in the yard. The police would welcome having something to do.

But my dad WONT talk to me. he said he hates me. he even moved & changed his number. i miss him but he neglected me. am i wrong for still caring? i love him. but he even said bad things about me to my friends mom. he said he never plans on seeing me again
You may always care, but choose to run your own life. If you let what your dad says effect you, you are allowing him to be mean to you without even being in contact with you. Understand that your jerk of a dad contributed to the birth of a wonderful child, you, and run with that.

My 14yr old cuz had a thing for me. Well just yesterday he said he didn't like me and found this new girl and slept with her that night. Now he wont talk to me, answer my calls, or text me back. I've even talked to his dad. What do i do?
If he is your cousin, it doesn't matter if he had a thing for you. He is your cousin, and therefore off limits. If cuz is just a figure of speech, any boy who would do that to ANY girl is not worth your time. Go find someone worthy of your attention. And by the way, sex at 14 is rather young. Make good decisions.

Can a "best friend" or a "self appointed sister" (the best male friend for a girl, the female confidant and motherly friend) become a boyfriend or a girlfriend? Could you change something, if such things happens, in your current level of intimacy?
It can happen, but if you change your current level of intimacy there is no going back to just holding hands. You can ruin a good thing.

I think that's a question for your doctor. I think you are helping your heart more if you drink something that isn't entirely made up of chemicals and artificial flavors, but that's just my opinion.
Answer to:
Will diet soda actually help you lose/maintain your weight as compared to regular soda?
It depends on the amount of soda you drink. If you are drinking soda with every meal and for snack in between, regular soda will put on the pounds. If you only drink soda once or twice a month, it doesn't make any difference which kind you drink. Soda was never designed to be consumed like water, which is how some people drink it. Diet soda itself will not help you lose weight,...

At that age courts will let the child decide where they want to live. As I teach, though, and work with teenagers daily, it is quite possible the picture that is being painted is geared towards getting what the girl wants. Getting yelled at is what most kids would say happened when they are corrected or repremanded. They are unhappy when they can't have their own way or do whatever...

If your mother watches your nephew 4-5 times a week, she has probably developed a closer relationship with him that with your daughter. That doesn't mean she doesn't love your daughter. Also, if she is watching your nephew that often, chances are she is pretty tired. Complaining about keeping her is tiredness speaking. Go see your mother with your daughter often, without expecting...

You're in a plane and suddenly a baby starts screaming up ahead. What is your first thought? "I wish that baby would shut up" or "I wonder if that baby is in pain?" Do you get immediately annoyed or feel compassion for the baby and the mother?
I have had three children and wouldn't think anything about it unless it went on for more that a few minutes. I certainly wouldn't do anything to upset the person holding the baby, because the more tense the caretaker is the less likely the baby is to stop crying. If it continued for very long I would go ask if there was anything I could do to help.

Almost any 7 year old has difficulty focusing on things he/she is not interested in. Reducing television and video game time will increase attention span. Try to make learning more interesting. If it is happening at school, choose your child's teacher next year.

What could cause a child to be retained to the same grade, even though the child has no failing grades, did not miss an excessive amount of school, and reads at the grade level he is supposed to?
Parents allowing it to happen is all I can think of. My youngest son had all A's and B's in the first grade. He had a June birthday and was the youngest and smallest one in the class. The teacher told us she was retaining him because he was too young and little to go to second grade. We refused to allow it because he was having no difficulty doing the work. What are the reasons a couple that my boyfriend and I were friends with and always went out together with, would reduce their calls and the amount of time we spend with them until we're not even friends anymore? Nothing changed and we used to get on great
They might just have other things going on in their lives. We have several couples with whom we were close friends at one point whom we have now grown away from due to time constraints and hobby changes. That doesn't mean we are no longer friends. We just are doing other things. Send them a Christmas card each year, and grow into new relationships.

I have a friend who I really care about but recently she stopped talking to me and I don't know why. What can I do so we can become friends again? I need help, I don't want to lose her.
If she is not answering your calls, write her a letter. Tell her you are sorry if you did something to offend her. Ask her to please at least let you know what it was so you will not run the risk of alienating anyone else. If you are a true friend, make sure you are still there for her if she ever needs it.

What does it mean when you tell a man (that you are in a relationship with), that you are not happy. Then he turns it round on me saying he is not happy and he does not know what he wants and he is sorry?
If you tell a man you are not happy, it means you are not happy. That is all it means. You are responsible for your own happiness. He is responsible for his. Each of you should do whatever you can to make life easier and better for each other but in the end, each is responsible for his own happiness.

Religion is rules made by men for worshiping a higher power. The belief in God or a higher power is not in itself religion.

Right now it seems like the problem is that he/she has diarrhea. Questions that need answers here: how long has he had it? Has he taken anything for it? Are there any other symptoms? He may either have a virus or an intestinal parasite. If Imodium hasn't had an effect, or even if it has, the best thing to do is to go see a doctor, particularly since the diarrhea seems to be a result of...

What do you do when parents interfere in personal relationships of young adults because they are overly moral? How do you deal with the guilt?
Sometimes fear that a young adult is going to make his/her life more difficult through choices is confused with being overly moral. My spouse and I got pregnant, ran away from home, and married our first year in college. I didn't understand then why everyone was so angry with us. We were happy; why couldn't everyone else just be happy. Now, as a parent of three young, adult males,...

My boyfriend's plans seem to change on an hourly basis. Nothing he says happens when he says it will, if at all. All sorts of major events fall through, and he gets angry that I'm not available at the last minute. Is he lying to control me and my time?
You are enabling this behavior by going along with it. If you love him and want to stay with him, you must put a stop to it. Tell him your plans either at the beginning of each day or each week. Include him in your plans. If he doesn't show up, go without him. Leave on time. Let him know this will happen. If within a month he hasn't adjusted to the no-nonsense schedule, drop him....

Leave for good. You don't need a boyfriend to tell you to put things away and turn down the television. That's what parents are for. If he's not your parent and he wants it done, he can ask politely or do it himself. Also, if he feels the way to get you to turn down the television is to call the police, he's an idiot. That isn't what the police are for. Walk out and...

There are several of them out there. You don't have to react by name calling, or even reply to their tirades. They are angry, little, bitter people. Don't let them pull you down. My parents' home had tasteful pale gray wool bound rugs in each room downstairs with about a one foot border of the hardwood floors showing all the way around each. My kids have never been disrespectful. They have, however, occasionally provoked wrath, usually resulting in a purple-faced, vein-bulging, bug-eyed, red-eyed, spit-as-you-yell tirade on my part. The fear of immenient death along with removal of whatever priviledge they hold most dear has always kept them pretty much even keel.

It is possible that the boy is socially immature and fits in better with your son and friend. As long as he is playing appropriately, I see nothing wrong with it. If you are getting bad vibes from him, though, simply tell him that you feel he needs to spend more time with children his own age. Let it be your fault that he can't play, not your son's. Is it ok for a guy to wear make up and look pretty
It depends. If he uses make up to enhance his looks, that's okay. If he uses make up to the extent that he looks like Tammy Faye Baker and is a distraction, that isn't okay. It's not okay for women, either.

HOW OLD SHOULD YOUR BABY BE WHEN YOU START TO DISCIPLINE THEM
Babies should be trained, not disciplined. If you train them properly, they will be self-disciplined. As soon as they start showing reactions to the different sounds of your voice, you can start training them. Positive reinforcement is the best method of training and can start as early as three months.

Should i tell my ex gf to leave me or not.she told me she wants to meet up but keeps ignoring the topic whenever i bring it up. she only tries to get intouch with me wenever tins are going bad for her. I love her and she knows it. is she taking advantage?
She's using you and playing mind games. Yes, she is taking advantage. Get rid of her. Find someone mature enough to play games on a board, not in a relationship.
Answer to:
I cant stop crying and feeling like i made the biggest mistake, its affecting every aspect of my life,. I miss him but everyone says hes no good for me, but maybe i can change him or deal with his flaws...help!
A person in a relationship is not a house that comes "as is" but can be fixed up. They are the product of many years of their life. You can sometimes buff off sharp edges, but you can't change them. Anyone that is spending time messaging other girls while he is with you, is not truly interested in you. Let him go. Your friends are right.

Yes. Learning to draw is like learning to write - you learn to duplicate the lines that you see. As in learning how to do anything, practice is an important part of being able to draw well. A very good book to learn how to draw on your own is Betty Edwards "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". You can do it; it just takes practice and effort.

Most of us swam in swimming pools every summer growing up with no damage. The only place this might be a factor is where very young children swim in indoor pools on year round swim teams. The chlorine fumes often stay in these rather unvenilated environments. Daily exposure over an extended period of time in developing lungs could cause problems.

Tornadoes normally occur in TX, OK, and KS- the region dubbed "Tornado Alley." Lately, they've been occurring way outside of Tornado Alley, in Florida, so why this change?
Florida has more lightning strikes per square mile than any other place in the United States. Lightning is produced by high winds within a thunderstorm cause liquid and ice particles above the freezing level collide, and build up large electrical fields in the clouds. Once these electric fields become large enough, a giant "spark" occurs between them, like static electricity,...
Answer to:
Why do people live in Tornado Alley? Surely the clue to the danger is in the name!
We live in Tornado Alley because it's our home. The chances of getting hit and killed by a tornado even in Tornado Alley are much lower than the chances of getting killed while driving a car to work. No one here worries much about it.

Answer to:
When buying a greeting card, do you look at the price before you make your final selection? Or just pick one out and go with it?
The only time I didn't look at the price was when choosing one for my mother. Cards made her happy, and I wanted them to be particularly pretty. When choosing a card for anyone else, I look at the price. I don't see any reason to spend $5 for a card to go with a $30 present.

I read about that. The woman is a lawyer in a major law firm. I'm sure she will come out okay in the end. Apparently a lot of it had to do with the location where she put them out of the car and the fact that the girls (10 and 12) screamed, cried, and chased the car, thus attracting the attention of people passing by. The older girl caught up with the car (it doesn't say how)and...

If a medical professional has diagnosed you with depression, is he/she necesarely right? Is there a chance that perhaps they diagnosed you when you were having an off day?
Medical professionals are human. There is a chance you were misdiagnosed. If you were, however, you should be more careful of the answers you give to questions, and the symptoms you describe. Doctors who have to make a diagnosis based on verbal information and not any type of physical test can only use the information they are given and see.

How are you saving money these days?
We cut our eating out budget to $50 a month and get that at the first of the month in cash. When it is used up we don't eat out any more. We also are just going to the grocery store once every two weeks. Going whenever we ran out of something contributed to a lot of unnecessary purchases.

Have you ever been through a tornado and if so, what did you do to survive?
I grew up in Oklahoma and now live in Texas. I've been through several. Growing up we went to the basement. Here, the pantry is the safe place. The best way to survive is to avoid being hit by flying debris. More people are killed by flying or falling objects than by the actual tornado itself.

Answer to:
How would you clean a mattress?
You can have the fabric steam cleaned, but that doesn't address what may have soaked down into the padding. The best way to clean a mattress is to carry it outside for the trash truck and buy a new one. If you put an adequate mattress protector on it and keep that clean, you should never have to clean the mattress itself.

Someone once told me that they think glasses add years to the "looks" of a person. Do you feel that is a true or false statement?
False. It depends on the glasses and the person. I usually wear my contacts because I can see better with them. Occasionally, though, I wear my glasses to give my eyes a rest and have repeatedly been told I look younger in them. I think the reason is that the bottom of the frame covers the bottom of the bags under my eyes. No bags - I look younger.

Speaking from a Christian point of view: If you are meant to love thy neighbour, what if thy neighbour is homosexual?
You can love them without crawling into bed with them. It makes absolutesly no difference whether your neighbor is a homosexual or not. I do believe it also says, "Judge not lest ye be judged." Don't try and decide...

This is a time to have a serious talk with your daughter. There are many places for the same thing to happen. If you feel she needs to have an adult with her at all times to give her the strength to say no, maybe she should stay home.
Answer to:
My daughter(J),16, has had a friend(T) since she was 7. I have watched as T has controlled most that J does. While T has many friends, if J attempts to hang with others, she is led to believe they are bad. What do I do?
Encourage J to invite over some new people. T seems to be a controlling person. Your daughter needs to branch out.
Answer to:
Would you sign for your 17 year old daughter to get married? Why or why not?
No. If she is deeply, hopelessly in love now at 17, she will still be deeply, hopelessly in love when she turns 18 and can marry on her own. If she doesn't think she can wait until she is 18, then the relationship is not stable and I certainly would not sign.

Religion is just nothing more than a "man-made thing" that a lot of people have been led to practice and follow, with no basis in a Higher power. True or False?
True. I believe in God, Jesus, and the validity of the Bible. I also believe, however, that religion is the rules man has made for worshiping God. There are many different religions, all professing to be the right one, all worshiping the same God. If religion was made by God, there would only be one. Just one. If it were not made by man you would not have to get rebaptized when changing...

Believers: Do you feel offended when an Atheist asks or answers a question about your faith? How often do you rate their questions and/or answers as Not Helpful just because they are an Athesist's view? And how do you feel after doing so?
I'm not offended when an atheist asks or answers a question. I don't think I have ever rated their answers or question down. Every answer or question is an opportunity to share. People sometimes get a little passionate in their sharing on both sides, but that just means they believe in what they are saying. That is no reason to rate them down.
Answer to:
Atheists look for answers, the faithful are certain they've already found them. Agree or disagree?
I disagree. Many faithful that I know have many questions. Just because you believe doesn't mean you don't have things you don't understand. Many atheists that I know have no questions because they have already decided that there is nothing to question.

Answer to:
Many parents use the term "ground" when referring to a punishment they give their children. I have found that "the term "ground can mean anything from taking away a privlidge like tv to putting your child on complete lockdown. any thoughts?
The degree of grounding depends on the situation. One of my sons was grounded from reading anything but textbooks for six weeks - not even the cereal box. That was more effective for him than anything else. Another son required complete removal of all electronic devices and friends. The third son you could say, "I am so disappointed that you would do that" and he would be so...
Answer to:
If you find yourself needing to repeatedly physically punish your children, is it time to consider punishing your own parenting skills?
If you need to repeat a punishment, it obviously didn't have the desired effect. You should only have to remind. If an eyebrow going up doesn't stop a behavior immediately and your child is eight or older, you need some remediation in parenting skills. Keep trying; be consistent.

Do you wash fruit before you eat it?
My mother always washed our fruit before allowing us to eat it - even bananas. I am not so good. Sometimes it doesn't even make it home from the store before being eaten. When I think about how many people have handled it and the pesticides that may be on it, I intend to wash it, but the only thing that consistently get washed are grapes and potatoes.

I would feel better than if I ate a greasy burger, but I would still be starving, so around two I would go out and get me a greasy burger. It would make me rather sluggish, but I wouldn't be hungry and my mouth would be happy.

A man was eating a salad last nite at the restaurant I work at, when suddenly a bug jumps out. He took it pretty calmly, and we comped the whole table's bill. How would you react? Would you freak out and make a scene, or calmly ask to see the manager?
I probably wouldn't freak out, but the violent, projectile vomiting might attract an equal amount of attention. Then I would ask to see the manager.

If at your BBQ/pool party the 14 yr & 17 yr daughter of one of your guess shows up, the 14 yr in a Rio cut bikini and the 17 yr in a thong back singlet, would you call it a fashion gaff or just the sign of the times?
I would call it indecent exposure and have them either cover up or leave. It's still my house and I don't have to put up with nudity. It's no more okay for them to wear it than it would be for me to walk out in the same attire. Of course, I really don't have to worry about it, because none of the families I know would allow such a thing, regardless of whose money paid for it.

A light pink lacy top and a straight black skirt or pants.
Answer to:
Tie-dye clothing: fashion statement for the past, present, future or none of the above?
Tie-dye clothing is just fun. There is an age at which it starts to look pretty silly - around the mid-twenties. Other than that it's fun to make and fun to wear, especially for outdoor summertime activities. I like seeing it on kids. For adults, I think the fashion statement is "I lost all of my other clothes in a house fire."

My 6-month bf wanted to have a break with me. We later talked on the phone and realized most of the things were misunderstandings. He said he needed to think about it and would call me back. I still like him but really confused. Not sure what to do..
If he broke up with you, let him have his break. The best thing you can do is to go on and have fun without him. Spend some time with your girl friends. Read some books. See your family. Don't even mention him. If he is still interested in you he will seek you out again. If he isn't and you try to force him back into a relationship, you will wind up being used and unhappy. Go...

Is it possible for a woman to go out and like sum1 as a friend and not be sexually attracted to them but have sex to try to develop more intimate feelings and start a relationship or do you have to be sexually attracted to sum1 to have sex
It's possible, but it isn't very bright. Sex without attraction is just exercise where bodily fluids are exchanged - opportunity for developing a more intimate STD, but not much else.

He's confused because he had a girlfriend that broke up with him and now says she didn't mean it. How can he not be confused? I think he needs time and space, too - time and space to find someone who doesn't play games with his feelings.

In the Beatitudes, what exactly did Jesus mean when He promised that the "pure in heart" will see God? Does salvation make your heart pure?
Salvation cleanses you of your sins, but it does not make your heart pure. The pure in heart do what is right because it is right. They don't do it to work their way to heaven, to get on God's good side, or to rack up points with the boss. They do it with no goal in mind but to help. They don't gossip. In the Christian faith, if a man has a rebellious son, is he supposed to beat him with a rod as bible states/allows, (See Proverbs 23:13) or does the church agree with the government that this is (now) abuse?
It also says, "Parents, provoke not thy children to wrath." (Ephsians 6:4) Very often rebellion is caused by parents who are either overly permissive or refuse to listen. If you draw the line when the child is young and keep the line in the same place, children tend not to be rebellious. Also, beating and spanking are not the same thing. Beating is abuse.

The picture with the story on the internet is of the driver. It took me a minute to realize it - I was wondering why on earth they would post a picture that looked like a mug shot. It is very sad anytime a young person dies. The fact that he showed such promise and died so tragically does not make it any more so. It is rarely helpful to have someone underfoot when you are trying your best to fix dinner for people. Even though you are being well-meaning and trying to help the host, if he/she wanted help he/she would have said, "Will you come over and help me fix dinner for you?" Good ahead and eat the mediocre food, say thank you, and be happy that someone likes you enough to fix dinner for you.

They aren't actually punishing you. To punish is to inflict a penalty upon an offender. They are telling you that you are wrong, and that what you are doing is wrong.
