Most of them are in an always on mode. So when you think that you turn it on there is not a long warm period. I have been told, but not for sure, that it takes less engery to keep them in the always on mode than it does to warm them up.

How come all 12 of Jesus' disciples were males? Wasn't that like maybe just a little bit sexist of him?
It was to an extent. It was also simply the way it was. However, it is interesting to note that the first person to proclaim that Jesus was risen from the dead was a woman. Also, his closest friends seemed to be women. It was a woman he saved by declaring 'he who is without sin cast the first stone.' The conversation with the lady at the well is one of the great stories in the NT.

Answer to:
Why do birds attack certain people. Outside of my condo there are 2 crows that attack me when I am outside (they even dive bomb me!!!) Is it my blonde hair or the cane that I am using. They seem to recognize me. Are they protecting a nest? Why me?
Most birds will protect a nest. There are also some studies that suggest birds do recognize people. If you ever swung your cane at them, they may remember and consider you to be a threat. However, if it is spring time the most likely answer is they have young in the nest and are protecting them.

I am the father of two boys. I have always taught them that it is always wrong to hit a girl. I have tried to teach them that in most situations it is best not to hit anyone. Self defense being on time that they may hit one some back. In this case I think I would say yes, it is wrong.

I've been told when you're only idling your car for a little while, it's actually better on gas to let it do so, rather than shut it off and restart the engine. That doesn't make sense to me. Does anyone know the science on this?
The time has been cut down to about 30 seconds. If you are going to idle for more than that you are wasting gas. With fuel injection etc. you will save gas by shutting off the engine anytime you stop for more than that.

Answer to:
If a coach call a time out and has a meeting on the mound, can he appeal the prior play if a runner didnot tag up? And would this be an out?
If the umpire grants the time out, the meeting on the mound does not matter. The prior play can be appealed as long as there is a time out. If the runner did not tag up there will have to be a throw to the base the runner was on before the play. The best way to do this is to have the pitcher get on the rubber, step off the rubber, throw to the base and appeal at that time.

Is there anyone else who thinks what Joe Biden said today about crowded places regarding the flu was exactly right and common sense? Why are so many people pissed about it?
It seemed like perfect common sense. If my family had the money to vacation in Mexico whenever we wanted, I would certainly suggest we put off the trip for awhile. Staying out of crowded places with bad air flow would seem like a good idea. People are pissed because the right wing has nothing to say except to disagree with anything that makes sense.

Why do I see conservatives and republicans treated with such disdain in public, on tv; and so often on AB? People seem to attack them as if they aren't entitled to their own opinions and views. It's sad when people fear utilizing their rights.
Oh Nancy, not again. No one attacks conservatives and R's because they are not entitled to their opinions. The opinions are attacked because over the past 25 to 30 years they have been proven to be false. What is really sad is when people cannot defend their own views and therefore have to attack the people who they feel are attacking them.

Japan was trying to secure a source of oil. The US deveolped a strategy called island hopping. This meant we would try to capture any number of islands that were least defended by Japan in order to disrupt the flow of oil to Japan. Iwo Jima was the first fortified island that the US won in this effort. It was the beginning of the end of WWII. In and of itself, Iwo Jima was not that important,...

Do you think that obama should end the development of a missile defense shield?
Yes! We do not have to fight the cold war of the last century. There are so many ways that the money could be spent. If we want to spend the money on so called "star wars" projects, Poland or the eastern parts of Europe is not the place to do that. We could put the money into NASA and their research of asteriods and into SERTI and their work of searching the skys for whatever is...

Again, if something does come to evidence, the theory must...
