Why is this statement wrong? "A rock is thrown straight into the air. At the peak its acceleration is zero." To me, at the peak it is neither speeding up, slowing down or turning, it's just hanging there. Therefore, zero acceleration...right?

Evolutionists: how do you explain the origin of the thousands of diverse languages in existence today?
I think language is the least relevant issue regarding evolution or creationism. After all, dialect itself varies greatly, accents are regional, etc.
If one were to carry that concept to its logical conclusion, one could see how a small difference in dialect or accent could "evolve" over the ages to become its own language.

I just Saw "Across the Universe" at home.
At first, I simply thought it was very cleverly made. And as it went on, I grew more impressed. Unlike Mamma Mia (which I enjoyed) the story stood alone, it was relevant, not fluff. The scene where they used "let it Be" was mindblowing.

It's sad that we've gotten to such a state that feeding an infant the way nature intended is an issue of controversy. I breastfed my son, and it was never my preference to do so in public, but if he needed to eat, I fed him.

I think it sounds like he's looking for a place to live. I understand the desire to have your family all together, but I would be very wary, and if you decide to reconcile, get some therapy.
Good luck.

What are the advantages of being "dirt poor" at least once in a lifetime? Hypothetically, if one hasn't experienced this, how might a 6 month 'experience' change their perspectives, if at all?
I don't think someone who elected to try poverty for 6 months would have the type of experience which would really show what it's like to be poor. After all, they'd know there was a light at the end of the tunnel.
As others have stated, poverty fosters creativity. You know the old saying "necessity is the mother of invention."

Within reason, yes. Children born to really young women are more likely to be preemie or low-birth weight, whoch tends to have health issues (but not always). Younger women are less likely to utilize proper prenatal care, within a certain age.
However, above 35 women are more likely to give birth to a child with birth defects, and older men have a greater chance of fathering children with...

When you argue with your children, do you think like your children, or do you step back and think like a mature person? I see many that get caught up in the argument, do you see that a lot?
The moment you engage in the "argument" you are on the child's level. Parents should discuss or dictate as fits the people or the situation.

Can over-eating to the point of obesity be considered as substance abuse?
I think folks are somewhat confused about obesity. Consuming massive amounts of calories is not the only way to become obese. Consuming more calories than one burns off is. That doesn't equate to a food addiction, that equates to an inactive lifestyle. Yet those...

How come women didn't want to be treated as Equals when the Titanic was sinking and men made way for women and children? Don't tell me to take care of the kids!
Gender equality was unknown at the time of Titanic. While in many ways women of the era were essentially chattel, a sense of chivalry (misplaced or otherwise) would dictate women be allowed to depart the ship first. Think of this: men were not caregivers, they were bread-earners. They wouldn't typically "babysit" their own children. Men considered themselves to be the stronger...

I have a friend who is very stoic. Do you think it's possible to help them become more emotional in their reactions? Do you think that something emotionally tramatic must have happened to them in their past to make them this way?
Stoicism (the state, not the philiosophy) shouldn't be confused with emotionless or a lack of a sense of humor. Not everyone is comfortable broadcasting their feelings.
If it's something your friend wants to change, then be patient and non-judgemental. My favorite person in the whole world is stoic. I wouldn't change him for anything.

In this economy, do you think that it is time that we start to seriously consider buying "Made in the USA"? Come on you giant merchandising companies - give us a choice! http://www.americansworking.com/
I always thought we needed to have Made in the USA merchandise as a viable option. Sadly, we're a cheap nation, and our stuff costs more. That'll change eventually, but I agree we need to make it an issue.

Would it be good to have more well rounded teaching in schools that include creative problem solving, communication skills, courses on becoming an entrepreneur to teach them to be able to work for themselves once out on their own?
I think at the middle-school/high school level this would be a great track to offer, just like some kids get pre-college and some get tech. Prior to middle school, I believe kids need to master the fundamentals. Few can argue we need to improve in that arena. I'm not big on the whole non-curricular magnet school option at the elemntary level.

I wonder if the extra letters and ability to correctly use them is how we visually sort people. The use of proper English is often used to judge intelligence, though in fairness lots of very intelligent people can't spell for crap.

This is a great question. I don't think math could be considered a religion and I certainly don't beleive that you can believe in it.
Math has rules which are usually clearly defined and can be proven. religion is about faith. Proof isn't required, though some will say they have proof. However, the proof isn't universally accepted, as it is with math. Math is universal,...

Alright, we'd have to assume that you'd be able to save someone from hell only at the moment of death, because up until then they have the ability to save themselves from a Judeo-Christian perspective.

Answer to:
Is it proper etiquette for an engaged couple to ask for money to be given for a honeymoon in lieu of gift registry for a wedding gift? How do you word it on the invitation
You don't. Never, ever mention gifts unless someone asks. Not even a gift registry is to be mentioned. By now, most folks who get an invitation are aware that gifts are given to the couple, and will inquire of the couple or appropriate family about "what to get".
Good luck!

Not only too soon for your girls (he's not a keeper yet, they might get attached), but consider that some men date women with kids because they are pedophiles.
Be sure you really know a man before you let him into your home around your kids.

How would it affect you if same-sex couples could get married? Would it really affect you or your understanding of the legal concept of marriage (NOT the religious version, but the legal one)?
It wouldn't affect me at all. All we're quibbling about here is a word...same-sex folks right to use "married" as an adjective. Since when does anyone own an adjective based on their demographic?
The argument against gay marriage shows how backward we still are as a nation. Grow up America. Who cares how other people conduct their lives? They're doing it anyway!

Is there any point in getting married if it's not required by your religion?
To live happily ever after, in a house with a white picket fence, 1.5 kids and a dog.
Seriously though...if you have to ask then you aren't madly in love and eager to cleave unto someone.
People should consider they will be financially better off (most times), have someone to feed you soup when you have the flu, and have someone to hold the baby for you when you need to use the bathroom...

If you saw someone with scars up and down their arms, what would you immediately think of them? Do you change your judgement after you think about it or get to know them?
It would depend on the type of scars..are they cut marks, needle tracks, burns?
I would probably get to know them before truly deciding what I thought of them. I don't have drug addicts in my life, so that would be an automatic negative...someone who cuts themselves I would feel badly for, but I'm not out to save the world today, so they wouldn't be my best friend.
Hope...

Love is that state when you care about someone so much that it doesn't matter if they love you too, or equally, or well enough. Love is when you care so much about that other person that you just want them...
