yes, as long as it's a current year tax return and you can have the government do a debit to a checking or savings account. Can't efile any past years not previously filed.
Answer to:
I'm a doctor working at several hospitals. I must be within 20 minutes when on call. If I buy an RV, are payments/expenses deductible?
If the RV has a toilet/bed/stove, it would qualify as a 'home' and the interest you pay would be deductible as it is for any 'home'. Mileage MAY be deductible if you go from 1st job to 2nd job. And perhaps the licensing fees: depends on your state.

A company was late in paying its state unemployment contribuations at 4.0%. If the company had taxable wages (futa & suta) during the year of $315,680 what sould be its net futa tax for the year
You are not giving enough information to answer this question. What are the FUTA wages: the first $7000 of EACH employee, not the total taxable wages! Since the company was late paying it's UI, the reduced FUTA rate of .8% is no longer applicable. The current FUTA rate should be 5.4% of the FUTA taxable. BIG OUCHIE
Answer to:
i went looking for a new big home but none where for rent all for sale, what maybe a reason for this?
Couple of reasons:
1. Homes that used to be for rent are now rented due to many losing their homes to foreclosures.
2. Homes that used to be for rent are now being foreclosed or short saled.

Can an unpaid debt be classified as income and taxed as such?
If it's from a cancellation of debt (credit card), yep, sure can and will! The credit card company will report the cancellation of debt on a 1099 C and you will add this to income.
Answer to:
How do you get the IRS to reopen an audit?
Depends where you are in the audit process. Was a final determination done and did you sign off on that? No? then you can ask for an audit recon. If yes, you can amend your tax return with the additional information. That will probably get it back to the hands of the auditor.

Answer to:
Hey what is 5/6 + 7/8 I'm really bad at math.
First convert the demoninators to the lowest common number, which is 24 in this case:
5/6 = 20/24
7/8 = 21/24 and whatever you multiply the bottom by, you also have to multiply the top by to keep it equal.
now add 20/24 + 21/24= 41/24
41/24 = 1 17/24
AND the reason why I helped you is because you at least had this in the right categoy and admitted you're bad in math! lol

Which duplex to sell: Both are on the same street, same floor plan, owned free and clear. One is fully depreciated, owned for at least 20 years, and the other was inherited a year ago. Will there be a difference regarding taxes?
Yes there is a difference in capital gains. The one that has been fully depreciated has no basis, so the selling price less selling expenses is the gain that tax has to be paid on.
The other one, inherited and I'm assuming thru a trust, gets a basis to what it was worth on the day the person died and before transferred to new owner. Selling price, less one year depreciation less selling...

You may have the neutral safety switch going bad! That happened to my Impala many times; the last tow truck driver was able to diagnose and, of course, I had to play the B*tch with the auto service center to get them to relace it while the car was still under warranty as the switch is INSIDE the transmission so this was NO easy fix. Not usually! The money normally has to be in the hands of the receiver BY the due date or it's late! So, when you mail, you need to allow the time for the money to get there and the busier the season (Holiday!), the longer it takes to get there, so plan accordingly!

Answer to:
My boyfriend & I live together and have a child. I have no wages for 2009. Can I file my own tax return claiming my child and claim an earned income tax credit.
If you have NO earned income, then there is no EIC to be gotten. Furthermore if you are living with your boyfriend, who is also the father of your baby, AND you have NO income, the father is obviously providing the home for the child and can claim the child on his (the father) tax return. AND if you have no wages, the father may also be able to claim you as a dependent on his tax return.

I currently hold a mortgage on a house, I want to know if there is anything such thing as mortgage insurance, in that if and when I die the mortgage insurance will pay off the house so that I can leave the house to my young son.
You can get a declining balance life insurance policy that would be cheaper than mortgage insurance. And depending on the age of your son, you might want to consult an attorney before you make him the beneficiary of the policy.

My ex claims my olderst son on his taxes. I claim the youngest. I had to show proof by way of Income Tax forms that my olderst son lived with me. So on my tax forms I listed him as livingin my home but did not claim him as a deduction. Is that legal?
Yes, it is legal. And you should have given your ex a signed IRS From 8332 saying that you were not claiming the child as a dependent (since it appears you are custodial parent) and his father was claiming him.

I am assuming that you are referring to Schedule C (sole proprietor). How can your business get a refund if you have paid no money in? Yes, the business can have a negative/zero/little income, but you better be able to explain, if necessary to the IRS, how you lived/supported yourself for a year IF you had a negative income from the business or zero/little income.

I own rental property in Texas. The mortgage is a California loan. Since California is a non-recourse state, if I walk away from the loan, can the bank come after other real estate assets?
Rental property is always RECOURSE! But since this is rental property you may get a 'loss' if it goes into foreclosure. You need to talk to an Enrolled Agent who are the only federally licensed tax professionals to help you with this. Look in the yellow pages under 'taxes' or 'tax consultants'; someone with EA after their name!

Perhaps the person is banned from having a bank account or perhaps the person does not have enough money to warrant having a bank account. OR perhaps the IRS will levy any bank account he has...tons of reasons why and I have enough other things to think about, so I don't think about it!

My mother & her husband (not my dad) are very devout Christians, I see them rarely so I'm not sure what to give them for Christmas, any suggestions on a gift they can both enjoy?
I like the idea of a gift card. If you don't live in the same town, you can check the internet for a Christian book store in their town and purchase a gift card from there. And check out Christian CDs. Or just a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. If they don't really 'need' anything, a monetary donation to a Christian Charity in their name would also be a nice gesture....

ABSOLUTELY! I shudder to think how many more would have been killed and/or wounded if she had not been near by, which was a fluke as that was not her beat! And she did not hesitate ONE second to put her life in danger! She's a cop's cop! Thank you, Kimberly!

Yes, I did and I didn't know it was counterfeit until my bank called me the next day when checking my deposit. I have a female pomeranian she just turned 3 years old i want 2 breed her but i dont know how 2 tell when shes in heat. what should i do
See Soulfire's answer but let me add she should have two heats in a year, about 6 months apart. She needs to be almost done with her estrous cycle to be receptive to the male. If she growls/bites/ignores him, she is not ready to mate. BUT there is a very small window, so keep the boyfriend around cuz when she's ready: she'll let him know by backing up to him and flopping her tail...

Why do I have to jiggle the toilet handle to keep it from running? Is the chain too small or too short?
I'm going to guess that the flapper (seals the hole that the water goes into) is no longer sealing properly. They do wear out. Try replacing that: it's an easy replacement and see if that solves the problem.

Ford Focus 2004 ZX3 problem with ignition lock. Key goes into slot but will not turn over the starter. Never any problem before. Entire steering wheel is locked won't budge. Is this a lock problem or a fuse problem?
Check the neutral gear switch in the shifting mechanism. I had the same problem with my chevy impala many times; a smart tow truck driver figured it out for me. If you can rock the car, you may get the switch to unlock. I finally got the dealership to replace the switch (which was quite a job!) but I had to really argue with them as they could never duplicate the problem naturally! BUT it has...

When you travel, the id you used to book your international flight must be the same that you present for check in. So if you book using your NZ passport number that must be the passport you use to check in. Once that is done, you can use whatever passport you want, eg clearing customs in the arrival country.

Yes, it is expensive and why would you want to live in oakland? Anything close to the 'bay area' is expensive. What is a check stub in USA? In UK it is a hand written note of the payee, date and amount, but in a book I am reading, in the USA it seems to be issued by the payer to the payee (presumably along with the check) like a remittance advice in the UK.
There is no requirement for a payer to give a check stub the payee unless it is a payroll check. Then the check stub gives the number of hours worked at what rate or the salary, the withholdings for Social Security, Federal taxes, State taxes if applicable as not every state has an income tax, and state disability withholding. The stub may also give the year to date figures.
And not every...

Why on earth would you be thinking of a trip like this for 'just a day or maybe a few days'? the trip for a day would not be worth the flight costs and there's the jet lag to contend with. You can't take a ship as that, in itself, would take days in one direction; double it for round trip.

You can call your local pharmacist and ask him about side affects. If headache is one of them, I would contact the doctor and see if there is something else you can be put on. Or call the doc directly! You can also google 'cymbalta' and see what the internet says for side affects.

Do you happen to remember the name of company? That would be one place to start. If not, then you can get a transcript from the IRS (or your tax person can get one for you with a Power of Attorney signed by you) and that will show if any company is reporting any retirement funds being held for you. If yes, then you can contact that company.

IF accumulated depreciation is understated, what is the affect on net income?
Dumdum did a good job of answering this question and there is one 'catch' to understating depreciation. When you go to sell the depreciated item, there is a depreciation recapture that is on depreciated allowed or allowable! So, if you have NOT claimed all the deprecation you could by understatment, you will still pay taxes on what should have been claimed, not just what was claimed!

Home pregnancy kits can be used on the first day of a missed menstrual period. However, the test results are more accurate if you wait a few days longer. If you do the test as soon as you have missed a period and the results show you are not pregnant (negative results), repeat the test in 1 week if your menstrual period has not started, or have a pregnancy test done at your health...

We did not receive a K-1 I have an idea of the loss what form do I use to report it?
Was a K1 issued? If so, then you can either contact the issuing party for a duplicate or file From 4506 with IRS requesting a copy. If none was issued, then you need to find out why and this is something you can not report on your own (since you have an idea of the loss) since there are numbers that are needed on the K1. The IRS matches these items.

The only costs will be for any application fee! First go to Social Security (no charge here) with the marriage license; then to motor vehicles, which will charge you for whatever a license costs in your state. Then as the bills come in, she should mark the box for an 'update' and put in her new last name which these will not have a charge.

I wouldn't want to do with less than 2 hours at any airport! Last flight I had was an hour late in leaving (had a 2.5 hr layover originally), then the connecting flight was 1.5 hours late in leaving! No, I don't believe they are. I think they are shorter when standing up as the muscles settle down on the skeleton, just from their weight, and the spine collapses onto the discs, which is why when we first lay down in bed, it feels so good to streeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch out!

Where does the term "401(k)" come from?
In 1978, Congress amended the Internal Revenue Code by adding section 401(k), whereby employees are not taxed on income they choose to receive as deferred compensation rather than direct compensation. So the term comes from that section of the IRC.

Your sister tells you dad left everything to you. But the lawyer says everything is left to the National Rifle Association. What do you do?
Ask the attorney to see the will or, better yet, the trust! Unfortunately, Dad probably changed his mind after he told your sister this and there isn't much that can be done about that. Now, if he had left everything to her while he was living in HER house, you might have a way to contest. But why would he leave everything to you when, obviously, you have at least one sibling.

Hey anyone been on several cruises? I want to know what cruise line is the best.
I definitely favor the Oceania Cruise Line. It's a small line with only three ships, adding a fourth this next year. BUT there are a max of 684 passengers and a staff/crew of 400, so almost 1:1 service! And that's what it is: SERVICE!

Answer to:
How does a corporation pay someone a referral fee or a finder's fee?
Write them a check after you have gotten a W9 asking them for their SSN (or EIN) so if you pay them $600 or more during the year, you can issue that necessary 1099 at year end.
Answer to:
Can a corporation give a gift of money to individuals without issuing a 1099?
Gifts, per the IRS definition, are limited to $25 per person per year! 1099s must be issued if the person receives $600 or more during the year. So, in this case, NO 1099 must be issued. I don't think the corporation giving a gift to individuals would be a tax deduction to the corp!

No laughing is not wrong, but, like many other things, there is a place and time for laughing. And the laughing during reading may be interrupted as poking fun the person who is reading as that child may not read as well as the next child. If he has been warned and cautioned and still continues, then, yes, a time out is appropriate.

I have my sons baby bed stored under my bed, no storage space..He's 13 now, trying to decide if I should part with it, when and if he ever has children his wife will probably want a new bed, should I get rid of it and how do I let go of it? Hes my miracle
Take a picture or two or three of it! My daughter takes pic of her child's 'creations' as she knows she can't save everything. Then perhaps call a local church to see if there is a needy family. You can always goodwill it. What I saved from my kids they want no part of, except I am using the high chair.

Everytime I wash my hair A LOT of hair falls out, even when I comb it. Knowing that it takes about 1 month to grow 1 inch and see 30 15 inch strands fall out every other day, scares me. Now I USED to have thick hair! Help?
There is a wonderful shampoo, conditioner, scalp therapy called Nioxin. Ebay is about the best place to get it as it is expensive, but it does stop the hair loss! There are several different products depending if you have colored hair, permed hair, etc, so best check on what level to order. I swear by it! Doesn't help the hair grow back but it will help you keep what you have!

Two chances: slim and none! not naturally, anyway. AND if you were to get pregnant, you would most certainly have to get an amnio done as your chances of a down baby would be jinormas! Missing your period for 3 months is probably due to menopause. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Besides drawing up a will, how can I ensure upon my death that I want to be cremated and how I want my assets to be divided? If I write my wishes down on paper and sign it, will someone take that document into consideration upon my death?
A will is subject to probate! Better to pay the money now and get a trust, then you can go 'peacefully' knowing that all of your assets will be divided as you wish. A probate can end up costing more than a trust does!
Go see a trust attorney!

They could have also been given up by their owners who are faced with losing their homes/jobs/moving etc and could no longer house/feed/etc the dog. Rather than turn it into a shelter, where it may be put to sleep, they turn it over to a rescue home where it most certainly will be...

My wife and I are both starting college in October this year. We are both able to utilize federal student loans to pay for all of our tuition. What are the tax implications of using FSA? Is it still treated as if we paid the tuition out of pocket?
Absolutely, you will be able to deduct the tuition paid on your tax return! You will get a 1098T for tuition paid and that's what goes onto your tax return AND starting this year, books are also deductible! Then when you start paying the loan back, the interest paid may be deductible to you also! What a win-win situation! And congrats to both of you and study hard!

You are not saying how old/young your daughter is, but taking 3-5 hours is way too long, obviously! Are the portions correctly sized for her age, etc? Then I'd set the timer for, say, 30 minutes and after that time take the food way and excuse her from the table. Do not give her any snacks until the next meal! She'll learn to eat a little quicker as she will know the consequences.

First: congratulations!
Now: you are SO lucky to be living in the UK as most of the European destinations are reasonable and quick for you to get to versus the Amercians having to spend $1000 just to get to Europe. So, I'd definitely look at the Greek Isles as a honeymoon destination or head over to Spain/Portugal.

When reporting corporate taxes, how do you report that you paid tuition for a college student (like work scholarship)? Is it operating expense, charitible giving, or what?
It's a 'or what' as in NOT deductible to the corp!
It's not a 'charitible giving' as the student is not a charity. You may be able to donate the money to the college and designate for the student, but donations like this are usually a corporation donation.
It's not an operating expense of the corporation as you do NOT need to 'pay tuition' in order...

I had a miscarriage about a month ago, and now I am in school. I am extremely depressed and cannot focus on my school work.. I am in counseling and this is supposed to be my last semester...How do I get over this so that I CAN concentrate on school work?
sending you a ((((((((((((hug)))))))))))
My daughter had three before she finally carried to full term, so you are definitely NOT alone. Perhaps you can find an on-line group support that will supplement your counseling. You need time to mourn; how about putting this final semester on hold for one semester?

If you woke up early Monday and all the news media and pundits said, " 'Silent Revolution Sucessful. Possum to Rule World for Six Years-All Parties and Interests Agree". Would you come around looking for a cabinet post or consulting postion of some kind?
I couldn't apply for a cabinet post since I have filed and PAID my taxes, so I guess I'll go for a consulting position: perhaps head of IRS so I could straighten them out!

Is there any way to do a short sale without having to pay off the mortgage balance?
That is the purpose of a 'short sale': it pays off the outstanding mortgage balance although the short may not fully satisfy the loan balance and the lender then 'discounts' the loan to the amount being paid.

My mother is 83 yrs old & she did not do anything to protect her savings, etc. from being eaten up by nursing home costs. She lives in TX, can she still give up to $10K to her children per yr without that money being considered in the look bck time frame?
She can give up to $13K/year to each child, but that amount will be looked at in the 5 year look back period! Sorry!
So, she needs to keep 60 months of whatever the nursing home takes monthly (eg 60 x $3000= $180,000) to get past the 5 year period, then she can gift the rest to the children. Then she will be past the 5 year look back period when she runs out of money and the State should then...

Can anyone explain a real estate "short sale" to me in laymen's terms?
Short sale: lender agrees to sell a house for less than what is owed on it.
You owe $400K on a home that is now worth $250K. The bank agrees to sell that house to the next person for anything less than what is currently owed on it. That is a short sale.

Car rental places are now charging $250 fee if you smoke in their cars. What are your thoughts on this?
It's about time! Hotels have been doing this for years now...it's too hard when you are dealing with the public. Everyone can put up with a clean smell, but few can put up with a smoke smell and some are allergic!

NO and it's too late now. She should NOT have been bred until she was about 2 years old. She's a baby having babies! In some breeds, their bones/development are not mature enough to support being pregnant/carrying puppies.

Please look at this question and tell me why it was flagged as spam/offensive.
Obviously it was flagged because of the word 'faggot'. BUT you can protest the flagging. I answered a question when I was fairly new to AB; it got flagged as a 'duplicate' which it wasn't and the other question completely misinterrupted my answer. The writer of the question and I protested the 'duplicate' and the question was restored. I'd try that as...
