This may be a stupid question, but are there any stars in space that are not in some galaxy?
I don't think it's a stupid question, it involves some pretty complex astrophysics. In space the basics are mass, inertia, and gravity. You can think of everything as moving or you can think of any one thing as being stationary (with respect to itself) and everything else as moving. A galaxy is a moving mass of stars (and dark matter) where inertia is balanced by gravity. In...

Yes and no. Drug laws are clearly overly prosecuted. But not many people end up in prison on drug charges just because a vindictive acquaintance or former bf/gf claims to have witnessed usage. Unfortunately in many cases (not yours) this happens with rape charges. Most everyone agrees that an admitted sexual criminal should be locked away for a long time. But in cases where a claim is made...

Answer to:
Is aquarium water used for watering plant safe?
It's safe to use water from a fresh water aquarium for watering house plants, though it will tend to build up the salt and mineral level in the soil over time. If you repot them with fresh soil yearly (as you should) it's not a problem. I would not use the water on a vegetable garden though, and any parasite spores in the fish poop could end up in your carrots if you catch my drift.

What is your opinion on the subject of abortion? Explain please!
Abortion is one of the easiest ways to kill people. Fetuses have not been known to carry weapons, and are poorly trained in hand-to-hand combat. Some day it will be legal to kill any age person in order to protect your freedom of choice. But until then, you'll have to make do with killing the tiny ones.

Does the food that we eat affect our thinking?
Yes. Your brain uses a lot of glucose during heavy thinking, which it derives solely from food. It is affected by a wide range of things you can consume, including stimulants like caffeine, depressants, psychedelics, and so forth. Most toxic substances you could consume, such as lead, will also affect brain function.

Does a Ph.D thesis have to be a completely original idea? If a Ph.D final thesis has to be an original contribution to what you're studying, how is it possible for every student to come up with new original ideas without their being in duplicates?
Actually a Ph.D. thesis has to be tied into existing work, and should NOT be completely original. You tie in work, by analyzing and citing it, and a good dissertation will have many citations. You build upon the work of others and contribute something new and significant. The academic community is very skeptical, rightly so, of unproven theories that come out of the blue, so if you made the...

Tell her you hear her and you understand she has strong feelings, ask her to sit down with you and tell you what you did to deserve that, and really listen, don't just defend yourself. Chances are after she vents a bit, you'll both feel better. And chances are she actually meant something like "I am angered by your refusal to allow me to buy the pants I wanted."

Yes, it's normal. There's quite a bit you can do to improve the situation though. But it will take some work on your part. Because the hotel mattress was used by people who could afford to stay in a hotel, and probably didn't die on it; they probably weren't contagious with horrible diseases or else they wouldn't likely be staying in a hotel, and the hotel presumably has an ongoing contract to keep bugs out, so you're less likely to get bedbugs in a Hotel.

My fiance and I just broke up because we just don't get along, but we both still love each other. I want to be intimate with her & make love to her, but I don't want any implications that we are getting back together right now. Help!
It's a REALLY good thing to break up with someone you don't get along with, even though you miss them at first.
Make it a priority to discover live after ex. Also known as "moving on"
Answer to:
My girlfriend just broke up with me because her mom said she can't go out with me anymore or see me otherwise she's grounded for life. We both still love each other, and we want to be together. Can anyone help?
Grounded for life isn't binding or legal; She should talk with her parents and let them know gently but firmly that they are going to drive her away (and perhaps into your arms) if they can't be a little more reasonable.
Answer to:
Does the tenant have rights to the fruit that grows on the property they rent?
Not unless it is explicitly stated in the lease. Imagine you're renting a farmhouse on a 100 acre vineyard. The $500 rent you pay wouldn't begin to cover the value of the 800,000 lbs of grapes one might expect in a year's crop.

Sure if you want, or you could make a deal with him that involves you holding the purse strings. Everyone is a loser in some ways, including you. You've found his weakness, you can either compensate for it, in which case you act as a couple, or you can point it out in court, in which case you act as adversaries. The choice is entirely yours.

Try to get some help and try to be supportive to the others in your family. Suicide is a selfish act, but it's often all that the victim can manage. Your father deserves pity, he must have been suffering terribly inside, try not to be angry.

You are already of normal height. Your best, least expensive and least painful option is shoes with a good sized heel. Your bones would degenerate and decalcify much faster than on earth, so after 2 years, you'd have the bones of someone 30 years older than you. Muscles atrophy as well though this can be somewhat mitigated by exercise. You are also exposed to much more radiation in space, which may dramatically increase the likelihood of various cancers with prolonged exposure.

It's normal and you'll probably want to get some help. The next step is grieving/pain/suffering, and that's worse.
Dr. Roberta Temes describes in the book, "Living With An Empty Chair - a guide through grief" three particular types of behavior exhibited by those suffering from grief and loss. They are:
* Numbness (mechanical functioning and social insulation)...

It is usually the visitor who is supposed to give a gift. The host on the other hand shows hospitality in other ways, by hosting (food, a bed and a tour).

I was in a minor accident. I stayed out of work for 2 days with a severe headache. I didn't go to the ER. Their insurance company wrote me a check for $350 for loss wages and pain suffering. Is this enough?
A severe headache after an accident is often a sign of a concussion, which can be life-threatening. The test for this, had you gone to the ER, is easy and fast, they shine a light in your eyes and time the pupil dilation. Going to the ER would also have helped protect your rights relative to any insurance settlement; instead, they can fairly claim that your injury wasn't serious enough...

Has anyone else noticed empty shelves in supermarkets on certain items? Last week it was cat food. This week it was yogurt. When I complain, the stock clerk just says they're out and can't say when they will get a delivery. What's going on?
Since the economy is bad, stores find they can lower their costs by lowering their inventory. Many stores are doing it now. I was in a Target recently that had only about 20 watches (down from hundreds) in their jewelry section... fewer everything. This is especially true of places that sell products that can spoil. Expect to see more of it until when/if the economy turns around.

Does Penn State have the lowest academic standards in the United States?
They're way down there, but it's hard to say "lowest." Penn State students tend to be football fans and brag about never having read a book in their lives. Many are unsophisticated kids from hick towns in Pennsylvania. What brain cells they still have they try to kill off with binge drinking on weekends. But that unfortunately is true of quite a few other colleges too.

Generally, no, you would not want to do the commute every day. Depending on what part of Tuscany, it might be 130 to 160 miles. Any advice on making a divorce as smooth and as painless possible. No children, two houses, five pets, approx total of $500,000 in assets. Don't see any real problems. One lawyer or two, mediation, ect ? All advice appreciated.
Try to be generous if it kills you. Say something like "I'd like you to have 'fluffy the cat' if you want, she always seemed to like you best anyway." The minute you switch to "I'm going to keep Barney the dog because he's mine and he loves me," you both will lose and the majority of assets will go to the lawyers.

Answer to:
What would cause someone to cough up blood after being hit in the eye hard enough to cause the eye to swell shut and turn black?
There's a reason that "Eye-Ear-Nose-Throat" doctors handle all four, it's because they're all connected. Broken blood vessels in the eye area will drain blood into the sinus cavity through the tear ducts, which tends to go down the throat and be breathed in while sleeping, consequently this blood would be coughed up later.

That's almost a universal complaint of notebooks, especially when they're more than a year old. Very few people feel they can count on their notebooks running solely on battery power for more than an hour.
You could get a new battery but you'll probably have the same problem soon, an alternative is having a second battery that you plug into the recharge plug. Someone with...

Is there and "edge" to the universe we know?
Yes, the edge is all around us in a sense. The universe is reality as we know it, so un-reality is outside of the known universe. Arguably antimatter is outside of the known universe in some respects, though it can be created, at least temporarily, in this universe. A speck of antimatter can be thought of as a tiny hole in the universe, and at its periphery is an "edge" of our...

Killing your baby should not be an automatic panic reaction. Consider your options carefully. You're not alone in this and you're certainly not the first person to ever have to deal with pregnancy....

That depends on a number of factors. Suppose a woman is angry and throws a flower pot at her husband's car as he's driving away. She misses and it hits and kills a pedestrian. She is found guilty of 2nd degree murder. I'd find most career burglars worse than this, but I wouldn't find them worse than a assassin who kills a political leader.

Answer to:
How long does it take to marinate a steak?
Depending on the type of marinade and how strong you want the flavor to be, between 20 minutes and 4 hours. Most people find steak marinaded longer than this to be overpowered by the marinade; it loses its "steakness"
