I like my life right now, so I'm alright with keeping it. If I must choose, though, I wouldn't mind seeing life from a certain friend's perspective through his own eyes. He already tells me quite a lot, though, so it's not really necessary.

Yes, I do see a difference. If you were fired, whoever fired you may have felt that you weren't a good fit for the job for some reason or other. If you were laid off, you may have been a good fit for the job, even if whoever you worked for felt the need to cut down on employees.

It could be that such people like certain things about you and don't like other things about you ... and are honest enough to tell you, even if it makes you dislike them. Someone might criticize you for something, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he or she dislikes everything about you.
