My husband and I are both Catholic, we are sep and will be getting divorced. We were married prior to us both going through the process (RCIA) to become Catholic. We have not had the marriage blessed by the Church. Do we have to have an annulment?
It does not matter when you were married, if you have completed RCIA and are now Catholic, you will need an anulment to to dissolve the marriage and remarry in the church. The church will consider your marriage valid because it was valid to you at the time of your vows.

Answer to:
Do you agree with Catholic priests refusing to say 'good morning' to congregations, because it is too informal?
Sure it makes sense. The Catholic Mass is not a "service" like it is in many Protestant Churches, it is a long congregational PRAYER. It begins with the sign of the cross and ends with the sign of the cross, thus everything in between is the prayer. It makes sense that small talk and greetings don't have a place there.
The article states that the priests will no longer say...

My son is marrying a girl whois a member of the church of england and they will be married in a c of e church - he wanted a blessing from a catholic priest as part of the ceremony but we have been given very confusing advice as to what he needs to do
I don't think he will do it in a Protestant church. Likely, you will have to do a separate ceremony at the Catholic church to receive this blessing. However, if you get the permission/dispensation from the diocese before the wedding asking to have the marriage outside the church, the marriage will still be valid in the eyes of the church and the blessing can be done at any time, not...

Technically, no. You would need to have the first marriage anulled and the second marriage blessed. Speak with your priest about what needs to be done, I'm sure he will be more than happy to help you.

They will need your information (i.e. vital statistics name, date of birth, religion) but they don't care whether you are Catholic or not. They would probably prefer to see the two of you married (which you also don't need to convert for) but that's up to you.

My boyfriend & I just got engaged - I am a catholic (christened & confirmed) he is not baptised under any religion & has been divorced. He was married by a celebrant for his first marriage. So can we be married in the Church
Yes, the Church has no problem marrying people of different faiths. However, his previous marriage will be a problem. He will need to have this marriage anulled before he can marry you in the Catholic Church. Since he is not Catholic, being married by a celebrant makes his previous marriage a valid one unless it is anulled.

Catholics, how many of you receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist without Receiving the Sacrement of Reconciliation?
I have, absolutely! If I am unaware of any grave sin I have committed since the last time I received the sacrament of reconciliation, there is nothing wrong with this. It is only when you are aware of sins that you need to be forgiven before receiving the Eucharist.
I like this question because it addresses a common misconception. Thanks for asking it!

Answer to:
Do Catholic churches keep records of confessions? (like, 12/1/07, Andrew Smith confessed to X,Y, Z)
Absolutely not! Priests are not allowed to disclose what is said in the confessional unless what he hears puts another person into danger. One is not even required to give his/her name in during the sacrament of reconciliation, so it's possible for the priest not to know who is confessing what.

Does the Catholic Church’s abhorrence of the death penalty is not as great as its abhorrence of homosexuality?
The church does not abhor either of these. The church recognizes that for some crimes penalty of death is necessary. The church also acknowledges that people have homosexual tendencies, it does not abhor this. What the church is against is sex outside of marriage.

What is supposed to be done when the host is dropped on the floor as the priest delivers it to the person?
The host is to be picked up, along with any little tiny visible pieces and eaten immediately. The area that the host fell on should be treated with water.
If the piece is inedible, the host should be dissolved in water and poured down the sacrarium (a special sink with a drain that does not go into the sewer, but into the ground instead). Or if there isn't a sacrarium, the liquid...

I have a 2 year old son and his father and i are living together we had our son out of wedlock and i was wondering if anyone knew if the catholic church would allow me to be baptised as i'm not married?
The priest will likely not baptize you until you settle your relationship with your common-law spouse. Baptism wipes away our sins, so I doubt the priest will want to baptize you and have you go home to a relationship not condoned by the church. You will really need to talk to a priest to find out exactly what would be required for you to be in full communion with the church.

What happens if you are divorced, remarried outside the church, had an abortion, have not received communion for over 46 years - can you attend reconciliation confess your sins and then immediately start receiving Holy Communion?
It depends on the state of your marriage. The church only recognizes one marriage-the first. You would have to get it anulled, and get the second marriage blessed before you can start taking communion. However, you can always participate in the sacrament of reconciliation. You are more than welcome to express your remorse for the abortion and your absence. Talking to your priest would be a...

I'm going to agree with the other 2 answers posted here. Being unmarried but living as husband and wife, is deemed a state of sin by the church. Of course you are always welcome at Mass, but you should not go up for communion. If you want to join the communion table again, I would look into getting married. 1) Rhea exercised on a treadmill at the gym. When she was finished, the display showed she walked at an average speed of 3 miles per hour.
a) Explain why this is a direct variation and find the value of k. (y=kx) What does this value represent?
A direct variation, is one that goes through the origin (0,0). In your equation, y=kx, x represents the time and y represents her distance. At t=0 seconds (or hours), she would have walked 0 miles so this is a direct variation.
since distance=speed x time, then k must represent her average speed. The treadmill clocked her at 3mph, so this is the value of k. Multiply k (her speed) by any...

Why are scientists satisfied to simply call gravity the curvature of space-time without any explanation as to why it should and what causes it?
Who says that scientists are satisfied with this? Scientists are still puzzled over exactly why gravity does what it does and they continue to work on solving this mystery and hopefully unifying the forces. Just because they haven't gotten there yet, doesn't mean they are happy without an answer.

It seems like a very brief amount of time for her to meet someone new, if you are ALWAYS with her at other times. She may just be enjoying her time alone and doing some things that she wants to do that she doesn't feel comfortable doing while you're around. Being together 24/7 can be pretty stressful. Aday is the approximate time for one darrk light cycle. A month is approximately a lunar cycle. A year is the complete turn of the seasons. Why does a week have seven days (please skip answers from Genesis). Do allsocieties have a tradition of 7day weeks?
I'm not entirely sure, but I'm going to guess that since the days are named after the 7 celestial bodies visible to the naked eye (in some languages), it has something to do with that. It makes sense as 1/4 of the moon's cycle. I think all modern societies use the 7 day week, but older civilizations used different numbers.

If it was given to you in memory of your uncle, you should probably donate it so that it can do some good in his name. You could donate it to a charity that is related to the way in which he left this world, or to a church or a community group that may have been meaningful to him while he was alive.

I'm like that with my husband. Sometimes I feel like I should never have married him and other times I feel like I couldn't live without him. I think it's the same with most family members. I go through times with my parents and siblings when I just can't deal with them and other times when I'm so glad I have the family that I do. Human relationships just go that...

I think I would, because I would want someone to tell me. I'd like to know before we got to the point that it could be passed on so that I could make an informed decision about whether I want to take the risk, and if I did, how best to protect myself. So I would tell them, likely before having sex for the first time but not before we are close to doing it.

Yes, it would technically be unethical. That's why studios print on proofs. They generally expect that each picture you use or send out is to be purchased separately.

YES!! Of course you can. Technically, any marriage of a catholic outside the church is not considered a valid marriage. Communion DURING this marriage would have been a no-no. It is possible, but you will have to have your first marriage anulled by the Catholic church. Assuming all the course work is done (i.e. 75% of the course is done) and you only have the 25 % exam to go then your current mark if you get a zero on the exam would be
70*75% = 52.5%
To get a 60, you need 7.5% more. Since the exam is worth 25 % then the minimum you can get is
7.5/25% = 30% on the final exam would give you a 60 in teh course.

No children are illegitimate in the Church's eyes. The church will allow your children to attend and receive Sacraments, but they will probably try to make your marriage valid.

Actually, you only need to affirm your faith in what the catholic church believes. The Catholic church does not repeat sacraments, and all the sacraments from the Orthodox church are considered valid as they have held up Apostolic Tradition. If you were baptized, confirmed and had your 1st communion as an infant, you will not need any of these sacraments again. You depending on the...

I have been baptized by the Catholic church but never received first communion. I would like to receive first communion but now that I'm 18 i don't know how to go about doing it.
You will have to make contact with your local parish priest to complete the rites of initiation. Did the Catholic Church fix the Christmas date of December 25th? If so, what does it celebrate: Jesus Christ the Lord and Saviour or a pagan god?
No body is sure of the actual birthdate of Jesus Christ, and it is unlikely that he was actually born on December 25th.
Why December 25th? Likely because many pagan religions celebrate the winter solstice at this time. When the fledgling church found that converting the Jewish people to Christianity wasn't working so well, they widened their scope to convert the pagans. The church...

Do you have to first be Catholic in order to be excommunicated?
I would think that by not being Catholic you already are excomunicated. My logic is as follows:
The Catholic Church's excommunications generally meant that the people were no longer in communion with the church, thus could no longer receive communion which is kind of the centre of the Catholic faith. By being excommunicated you became ex (out of) communion...which technically you are...

The best way to sanctify your day is to help others. Both big ways and small ways would suffice, your day would be better and so would theirs. It is a sacramental in Catholicism and can mean a few different things. Some reasons that I do it personally are:

If you were baptized Catholic, you actually MUST be married in the church for the church to consider...

There are a number of things that have to be weighed in. It is possible to still get married in a Catholic Church, but your boyfriend would need an anullment first. Speaking to a priest is good advice, he could certainly point you in the right direction after he knows the details. Some parishes are more strict than others on this issue, and it also depends on your own beliefs.

How fast would the Earth have to spin in order for things to fly off it into space?
Well, escape velocity (the velocity an object would need to exactly counter gravity) is 11km/sec. Any object moving at least that fast would "fly off" earth. So my guess is 11km/s, of course, the speed would vary with distance from the equator.

Classical Physics has gravity following an inverse square rule, meaning that the force of gravity will weaken as the distance increases. In order for a divorced Hindu man to marry a Catholic woman in the Catholic Church, does he need a "church" annulment, or will a "civil" annulment suffice?
You will need to launch an investigation into the validity of the marriage (i.e. begin a "church" annulment investiation) The RCC cannot just walk around calling all Non-Catholic marriages invalid, they need to investiage its validity. A civil annulment means nothing to the Roman Catholic Church, so there isn't much point in getting this unless you want it for other purposes.

Is masterbation a sin that a person needs to go to confession for?
Strictly speaking...yes...The Church teaches that sex has two main purposes that must be sought in the marriage act: sex is for reproduction of children within a valid marriage, and it is a loving, unifying act between husband and wife. Masturbation violates both aspects of the natural law and is thus a grave sin...however, I'm not sure how many people run to confession over this.

N = R* × fp × ne × fl × fi × fc× L
where
R* is the rate of star formation the galaxy
fp is the fraction of stars with planets
ne is...

Can you tell me some beliefs that are particular to the Catholic Church
I think only Roman Catholics believe in the power and holiness of the Pope's office, and I think it is only Roman Catholics who require their priests to remain celibate. I can't think of anything else off hand that ONLY Roman Catholics believe in, a lot of beliefs are shared with the Eastern Orthodox churches.

At any time do you beleive in people blowing themselves up in the name of islam or any religon?
The thing is, that suicide bombers are often not blowing themselves up in the interest of religion. It is often as much or more to do with politics than religion alone. For example, look at where most of the suicide bombs are being reported, Palestine/Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, look at the political turmoil in these countries!
I do not necessarily condone what these people do, however, I...

If a deceased person put in their legal Will that they wanted their body placed in a giant slingshot and launched across a wheat field as a kind of "performance art", would it be legal to do so? Would you attend such a funeral if invited?
I'm not sure of the legalities of it...It would obviously only be allowed in places that wheat is grown. However, my great-grandmother chose this option for "disposal" though it was quite cumbersome because we live in a big city and it is quite a trek out to a wheat field. Also she did not leave instructions on where to find this giant slingshot. Instead, we chose to make a...

I'm divorced and not Catholic, but I'm marrying a Catholic. Can I become Catholic myself?
You can, of course! However, only after your first marriage is anulled and you have your new marriage blessed in the Catholic Church. The priest will not baptize you into the faith just for you to sin (in your marriage that is not recognized by the church). Talk to your priest about your situation, he will be able to help you more once he knows the particulars about your situation.

Why can't someone who is not Catholic receive communion?
A person must believe completely in transubstantiation (the fact that the bread actually becomes the body, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ). A person must take classes to fully understand this concept and must truly believe in it. For children, they do this when they prepare for their first communion. For adults, they attend RCIA classes to prepare for their first communion immediately...

I'm divorced once and remarried to my current wife. We are both interested in becoming Catholic. I recently learned that remarried people must get an annulment to convert. I believe this is wrong but still wish to convert. Impossible?
Yes, this is true, you must get an anulment first. Your baptism will absolve you of all sin, and ideally, you are to stay in this state until you die. A priest cannot baptize you if he knows that immediately after you leave you will inevitably sin (with your new wife that is not recognized as your wife by the church). Unfortunately, I don't think a priest will feel right about baptizing...

2/x - 2/x^2 over 2/y^2 + 2
(2/x - 2/x^2)/(2/y^2 + 2)----2's cancel
(1/x-1/x^2)/(1/y^2 + 1)----multiply top & bottom by x^2y^2
(xy^2-y^2)/(x^2 + x^2y^2)----factor y^2 on top & x^2 on bottom
y^2(x-1)/x^2(1+y^2)

A fast doesn't mean a fast like it used to. What we do (as my priest instructed) is simply limit what we eat, usually one meal a day, so you might have some soup or a sandwich, something small. What is communion?
Communion (Holy Eucharist) is one of the seven sacraments, in this, we receive the very body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. Many graces come to us through the reception of Holy Communion.
Communion is an intimate encounter with Christ, in which we sacramentally receive Christ into our bodies, so we may be more completely assimilated into his.

What is the name of commuion receied by the dying'
In Catholicism it is known as Annointing of the Sick (post Vatican II), or Extreme Unction (pre Vatican II), or Last Rites when it is combined with penance and the Eucharist (Viaticum in this case). But, I'm not sure if this is a Catholic question or whether non-denominational Christians do something similar.
Answer to:
Ask a question about Catholicism Do catholics still have to go before a priest for confession to receive communion? Or can i make confession in my heart and receive communion?
Depends on the sin. Mortal sins (i.e. really bad ones) need to be confessed to a priest before you can receive absolution and purify yourself enough to be able to ingest the Body of Christ. You cannot take communion without being absolved of your mortal sins.
The 1983 Code of Canon Law says: "A person who is conscious of a grave sin is not to . . . receive the body of the Lord without...

If a question is old, it gets pushed to the bottom of lists and is buried unless someone digs to find it. When there is activity in a question, it often gets put back at the top of the list where other users will more easily see it and thus start answering it if it interests them.

At Catholic services, I have seen the priest waving a ball back and forth with smoke coming out of it. What is it and what does it mean?
It's incense, it's usually used at funeral masses and at Easter. Its burning symbolizes the zeal with which the faithful should be animated; its fragrance, the odour of Christian virtue; its rising smoke, the ascent of prayer before the throne of God
Also, incense creates a cloud. A cloud is a symbol for God the Father. For example at the Transfiguration, also in Exodus, the...

Is there any chance of premature burial in modern Western society today?
I think embalming is the standard nowadays, at least in North America. Formaldehyde is injected into the vascular system as the blood is drained out. In some cases embalming fluid is also pumped into the body cavities. With embalming, if you weren't dead yet, you would be after so you wouldn't have to worry about making it to your grave alive.

If children were raised catholic and recieved all the sacraments then their parents annull their marriage what is the status of those said children
The Catholic church does NOT render children "bastards" or "illegitimate". The children are still legitimate children and would not be looked down upon at all for the reason of an anulment. It is not the child's fault. As far as their being Catholic, anyone can be Catholic, children born out of wedlock are no exception. So their status as Catholics will not change...

Not that I know, or that this is factual, but Jesus is also pronounced Hezeus or Yezeus (kind of phonetically, I think you know what I mean) in some areas of the world. Zeus was a pretty major Greek god. Maybe it got lost somewhere in the translation and the Greeks mixed Yeshua and Zeus to get Hezeus or Yezeus and finally Jesus in English?

If you mean becoming a citizen of Italy, the answer is yes. Italian citizenship carries through from generation to generation. It depends what you mean by secure. If you mean secure as in happy, I would say not necessarily. Some may prefer it, others would be miserable.

If you don't get your period after 3 weeks, then you may have a problem. When I took the pill, my periods just continued on their normal cycle. Seriously, don't worry yet, it's really effective if you took it right.

Yes, many times. I'm a South African citizen (but wasn't born there).

What significance (if any) does the circumference of the Great Pyramid have to the distance of the Sun from the Earth?
The height of the great pyramid (5813.2356 PYRAMID inches*) times 10^9 represents 1 Astronomical Unit**, Earth's mean radius around the sun.
and half of the length of the diagonal of the base times 10^6 is also 1 AU.
I'm not sure that I've heard anything about the circumference, though I could be wrong. I'd be interested to find out if there is too.
*1 Pyramid...

Have you ever wondered if things could be any other way (like a totally different society or something like that)?
Yes, all the time. Just the other day, I was talking with my friend about how nice it would be if humans intrinsically hibernated in the winter. Of course he pointed out, that while the rest would be great (we live in Canada, so that could be like 6 or 7 months of sleeping sweeeeeet!) it would be a nightmare to police, and thus we'd have to import people from the south to stay awake all...

Which will happen first: IrishIIII will remove the stolen avatar from her profile, AB will remove the stolen avatar from her profile, or AB will ban me (AntigoneRising)?
I have faith AB will do something, though it would be nice to see the thief step up and apologize. Keep up the good fight!

Answer to:
After proper annulment can my divorced daughter remarry and receive Holy Communion?
Actually, your daughter can receive communion if she is only divorced (frowned upon, but not unforgiveable). A simple confession will help take care of the divorce.
The problem really exists if she has remarried, or is living with a man. This is a sin that is being committed again, and again and cannot be forgiven through reconciliation because you have to attempt to change. If this is...

I'm Pentecostal and my fiancee is Catholic. I'm divorced I was baptized in the Pentecostal church also married their. I've been divorced for 6 going on 7 yrs now. What is the Catholic Church ruling on this. What is needed for a marriage to
The truth is that you ARE in fact married. If you were Pentecostal at the time of your marriage and had an acceptable Pentecostal wedding, then the Catholic Church cannot declare your marriage invalid.
You are only required to get married in the Catholic Church if you are Catholic, then automatically any marriage you have outside of the Catholic church is automatically invalid due to it...

Is Sarajevo a real mess at the moment, after the war, or are they recovering well?
I was in Sarajevo in 2003, and it didn't seem like a real mess to me. There was still quite a bit of evidence of the war (i.e. scars on buildings, and pavement, bunkers on the hills above the city, and HUGE parks converted to cemetaries to bury the dead while under siege). Even then, however, the city had removed much of what was destroyed, and started rebuilding. I think the clean-up...

How much do abortions mainly cost?
In Canada abortion is also free...or at least paid for by the taxpayers. They can be performed within a few days, in a hopsital, with anasthesia and an ultra-sound. Though they only give you minimal recovery time (an hour or so) and don't help you figure out how to get home.

I'm only 14 and I might be pregnant. How do I tell my parents if I find out that I am?
You just had sex yesterday? There's no way to know if you're pregnant or not yet. However, if you're very worried go and get a prescription of the "Morning After Pill" or "Plan B Pill". In Canada they're available over the counter at the pharmacy and can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. If you live somewhere else, go see your doctor...

Answer to:
Why does Islam claim that their prophets are sinless when the Qur'an says point blank that Muhammad was a sinner (see surah 48:1-2, among others)?
I'm not entirely sure that this question makes sense. First, what do you mean by "their" prophets? "Their" prophets are your prophets, Abraham, Noah, Moses, Adam etc. everyone you believe in they believe in. We all know that Moses sinned against God and Adam certainly doomed the rest of us by sinning against God, so I'm not sure why you think that the Muslim...

Hello I'm a Catholic, I married a divorced woman in a United Church. We're now divorced due to her non religious believes. Can I remarry within the Catholic Church, since I never married in the Catholic church the first time.
Hi, a similar thing is happenning with my husband right now. He was baptized catholic and we were married in a civil ceremony. He was previously married in another civil ceremony. The first marriage is not recognized by the catholic church, but we still need to get it anulled to marry in the church. It is apparently easy to do (comparatively) due to "lack of form" i.e. the first...

Can one who has been married multiple times become a Catholic and marry in a Catholic church?
My understanding (and feel free to correct) is that you may participate in the RCIA. I'm sure the church would welcome you, but whether you will be able to fully take part is dependent on whether you are seperated and celibate or whether you have civilly (or otherwise) "remarried". The Catholic church and God will recognize only your first marriage until it is anulled. Any...

If a person is raised Catholic, and marries a divorced person, can the couple attend Mass? Can their children become Catholic?
My understanding is that your marriage is NOT recognized by the church until the person you are living with gets an anulment of the previous marriage, since in God's eyes this person is already married and not free to marry you.
Until the original marriage is nullified, you are indeed in living in a state of sin and may participate in Mass, but NOT the Eucharist. The only way to...
