It's a gerund. It's part of an idiom "go shopping", which literally translated would be an adverbial participle. In that case, shopping is only incidental to the locution "let's go."

If "I think therefore I am" were "I think perforce I am", would we still be quoting it today? How important is word choice?
It doesn't seem like perforce is a good choice for therefore. The word has its place, and it's place is in the dictionary. In the original, Cogito Ergo Sum, ergo has always been translated with therefore, and if some rebel scholar decided to use perforce instead, it probably wouldn't have caught on as well and died naturally.

Are you kidding me? thanks to information technology, namely the internet, kids are learning tens of times more than the older generation. This is a fact taken from the Computer Desktop Encyclopedia - I forget under which article - this does not mean kids these days are learning the same stuff as in academia, just whatever is found on the internet.
Answer to:
Do you believe that teenage love is stronger than adult love? or the other way around and why?
It is possible that as people get older, they lose their passion. But I don't think we can make any sweeping statements as teenage love is stronger than adult love. It has nothing to do with how successful your relationships are or how many partners you've had. Could it be that teenager's relationships don't last very long not because they don't love so strongly, but because one loves but the...
Answer to:
How do you feel about the case involving the nine teenagers being charged for their bullying victim's suicide?
There may have been compelling signs that point to the notion that this teenager killed himself driven by the suffering under his bullies, but before we make unfair judgments how can we really know that? Maybe bullying did contribute to a certain extent and maybe the teenager already had a predisposition to kill himself. And for what would they be charged anyway? For example, I could kill...

"He was acting *SUSPICIOUS."
I thought grammatically "SUSPICIOUSLY; an adverve" matched here as * is an adjective
Actually, either is grammatically correct. The word suspicious should be turned into the adverbial form to make the sense you are thinking of but as an adjective it can also be used absolutely with the verb "act" used intransitively: "(being) Suspicious, he was acting." This sentence means, he while being suspicious in character, acted (as in play or movie).
Answer to:
Why is paedophila considered a mental disorder and not just a sexual preference?
There is a debate going on among scientists whether to call pedophilia a sexual preference or a mental disorder. The debate is summarized this way: A disease is defined as some physiological or mental disorder that disrupts the body's normal functionings and hinders or stops its survivability as a species. Pedophilia fits that definition in that the preference for pubescent to mature human...

I don't have a favorite that was assigned to me in any class. For me, favorites don't come being imposed on you, it has to come within. Truly some of the loveliest poems ever written in all time. Doing the same for...
Answer to:
Which is correct?
"He is a good friend of Jason / Jason's".
as you say "He is a good friend of MINE."
"He is a good friend of Jason" is correct. There is no need to make Jason possessive because you already have "of" indicating that. "He is a good friend of mine" is an idiom callous from its consistent misuse. As it is grammatically superfluous, it should be "He is a good friend of me" or "He is my good friend." The same goes for "He is a good friend of HIS" and "He is a good friend of HERS",...

This question is based on a premise that is unqualified. Who says either female or male genitalia is unnacceptable to show in movies? What if marriage was defined as two people who love each other? Would that be so bad?
Yes because 1) people is not the plural of person, it is the singular noun referring to a population or a group of persons of indefinite number; 2) marriage is better defined as the CONJOINING of two persons, not the two persons themselves, in matrimony. If it were defined the way you put it, the point of marriage would be extremely commonplace being that it could be used to define pretty much...

Like anyone is going to say yes. . .
well actually, if you put yourself to the standards of society, it is hard to say. Society is made of many kinds of people. Some kinds of people value traditional machismo extraordinarily and to them you are less of a man. Other kinds may not give a damn about your sexual history. I am far from able to write a comprehensive answer but in short, Romans used "j" for both "j" and "i" because they didn't have separate letters for them. It's still considered a consanant if the word is really meant to start with "j" instead of "i" and the only way you'd know is to look it up in a dictionary.

Answer to:
Must a Latin preposition always precede its object, or is it OK (for stylistic reasons, perhaps) to sometimes place the preposition after the object?
It is possible for some prepositions to follow its substantive. These are called postpositive prepositions. An example is "tenus", which means "right up to, as far as": "Capulo tenus" means "up to the hilt" (taken from Allen and Greenough's New Latin Grammar). Otherwise I have not seen any preposition to follow its substantive.

I believe so, if both types are to be illegal. On the premise that harm is indisputably done to the subjects depicted in the child pornographic images, we can assume that soft-core depictions will not do so much harm as hard-core depictions. For example, nude or partially nude posing vs. sexual intercourse or graphic sexual activity. It doesn't make sense to give a blanket punishment to...

I'm not seeing an answer that I like so here's my say. Don't think what I'm about to tell you is what I necessarily think morally or socially right:
Pedophilia: It's typically defined as "a recurent sexual interest in prepubescent children, reflected in persistent thoughts, fantasies, urges, sexual arousal, and behavior" (American Psychological Association...

Answer to:
If you knew for a fact someone was a pedophile, had acted on their urges, and the police were unable to act, what would you do? Would you take action yourself to protect the innocent children who could be harmed?
I would always take action, whenever possible, to protect anyone, including children, whose well being is threatened. If I knew a pedophile and I knew he had “acted on his urges” – which I assume to mean that he had some kind of sexual encounter with a child, the action I would take depends on if I felt the children he had acted upon were actually harmed, as distinguished from...

What do you think about "virtual child porn"? Should it be legal or illegal? (virtual child porn includes cartoon drawings, young-looking adults etc - no real children involved)
I think it should be legal. Allow me to explain the situation with detail.
Virtual child pornography is in fact made illegal by the PROTECT Act of 2003 (succeeding the CPPA of 1996) which under federal law bans "any visual depiction" whether "digital image, computer image, or computer-generated image" involving a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct or any subject...

If "discedere debeo" in latin means "I ought to leave", what about "discedere non debeo"? Is it "I ought not to leave (I should stay)" or "I do not need to leave"? Does "non" negate the action or the obligation?
Puzzling, almost philosophical debate, on this subject. Very precisely, you're asking if "discedere non debeo" means "I ought not to leave" (I shouldn't do the leaving, but perhaps someone else should) or "I ought to leave not" (I should do something, but not leaving, meaning that whatever I do must result in me staying). I would have to delve more deeply...

What does "between fear and victory, I will conquer" translate to in Latin?
"Inter timorem victoriamque, vincam."
I'm not sure what this sentence is supposed to mean, so I just gave a literal translation. For example, I could've said, "Through fear and victory. . ." in the sense that the conquering is to be done by experiencing these things, or if it means more in the sense that given either fear or victory, conquering will be done...

"Exuro, Abyssus Incendia Curator" I believe this is Latin and I know some latin but this is presenting some trouble for me. Can you help?
I got it finally - It think it means "I, the keeper, dry up the sea about to be inflamed."
No, not very pretty with a literal translation. "Exuro" is a transitive verb so it must take a direct object. "Abyssus" is listed in Lewis and Short's Latin Dictionary as a feminine noun meaning "bottomless pit, abyss; hell (Tartarus); sea" and it must be a...

Lord Skulldragon is "Cerebrum Draco Caesarinus" (so far as I am able to tell). Cerebrum means brains usually, but sometimes skull. Does anyone still use proper English other than writing a formal letter or paper for school? The internet lingo sometimes gets me bent out of shape. I've been criticized at work for responding with "I am well" when asked how I am as opposed to "Fine"....
Yes people do. The standard of speaking is a constant struggle between the strict adherence to grammatical rules and the common way to speak. Old world expressions eventually die out (saying "Pray, sir" instead of "Hey you") and the standard of formal language is morphed by the patois of the new generation. There may very well come a time when "I'm fine"...

In which other case where the difference is not noticeable, I'd feel more comfortable using a product from a brand I trust and have been using for a long time rhan any generic one.

I happen to be extremely fond of francophone music so I can give some direction:

Manu released an album last August I think, "Rendez-vous" that I'm fond of. It has a couple tracks with English and French in the same song.

What pulls people in, to like 'commercial music'? the majority of it is untalented musicians thrusted into the spotlight cause the record company sees they can make profit, why cant we see through this, and listen to music with real emotion and tallent?
That's the whole point of commercial music - a quick short-lasting hype to make profit from. It's the difference between commercial fiction like Stephen King and the fine arts like a classic Ayn Rand. Commerciality purposely aims to fulfill the outward senses without much regard to critical appraise.
Plus it has also to do with that these so called musicians that play for the...

Do what people have been doing for thousands of year when they are driven mad by love: write about it. A letter, a poem, a song, anything like that. That's what lovers want to do, they feel like expressing their feelings to the world. The masters themselves wrote about love, you should read what they wrote: the passionate love poems of Catullus, to more modern day romantics like Shelly,...

Do you mean they should receive stiffer penalties by the reason of being religious leaders? Or do you mean they should receive stiffer penalties for the crimes they commit (which are?)? I surely do not think they should be executed. More generally, I don't agree with capital punishment.

Would you ever make a porno?
yes and I would make it an actual movie. People these days think hiring a bunch of B class actors having sex under the guise of an even crappier plot passes for entertainment. The porno industry needs much more representation.
And I would direct, not act in it.

Latin Experts: Do the words "lumena paxte cumfi" have any meaning in English? If so, what? I know lumena is light, and paxte is peace, but what about cumfi and the orientation of the words?
It means "Peace with you, Filumena." I did not recognize these words at first but a quick google search tells me that they were misspelled anyway. It's supposed to be "Filumena pax tecum." You are right to say "pax" means "peace." "Lumena" may or may not mean light, but in this case it's someone's name. So "tecum" is...

Why do people watch porn? My theory on porn is: Why watch when you can do? Who agrees with me?
You have to realize that porn is not exclusively watching people have sex. Porn is any visual media designed to erotically stimulate the viewer. Normal is the median peak if you were to plot all personalities on a Gaussian curve. There also no normal with respect to the general I believe, but with respect to, say, sexuality, height, and stuff like that. For example, most people are heterosexual, so I would call that the norm. I know a lot of people may disagree with that particular example though.

When someone says “didn’t exactly” or “not exactly” in what they state, EXACTLY what purpose does that adverb serve? If someone says a guy “didn’t exactly love his son,” why don’t they just say “didn’t love his son at all,” period?
Usually these kinds of filler words mean absolutely nothing. WEll. . . ., I'll tell you what. . . Actually I . . . , etc. In this case that person is probably being ironic. When he said he didn't exactly love his son, it most likely meant that he was very brutal to his son. In all other cases, they are filler words to fill in the void of an otherwise simple sentence.

why would they give it back? I'd tell them to throw it away.

If you give someone a gift and decide you want it back, is it legal to take it back? The gift has been purchased with a Credit Card, but the balance is still outstanding.
No you gave it to the person. Therefore you transferred ownership to that person so you cannot claim something that you no longer own. It doesn't matter if it was once yours. However if you gave it to the person under so and so terms, you can abide by those terms and make out a deal.

Construct a home library and fill it with the complete works of William Shakespeare leather bound, and all the classic works of Roman literature with the original Latin. I'd probably have a lot left over after that so I'd give some to my family and give some to a worthy cause like ACLU. Then again there are lot of causes in ACLU that I don't agree with so I'm kind of iffy...

Answer to:
What is the difference between a family of elements and elements and elements in the same period?
I'll cite Wikipedia for this. Family is the vertical column of the chart so the elements are arranged by the valence shell. For example, all the halogens have a valence of 7, meaning a formal charge of -1. Since the essence of chemical reactions have to do with the transfer of electrons, you can imagine that the elements in the family have similar physical properties. Period is the...

Answer to:
When an alkene is reacted with h2so4 in water why does the double bond break and bond with an OH instead of just an H
H+ is an electrophile. The electronegative sp2 carbon pi bond attacks the H+ from the acid and cleaves the double bond, making a carbocation. Water is a nucleophile and its lone pair attacks the carbon and loses a H+ afterward.
Answer to:
Why is density important to a chemist?
In the lab you might need to weigh out a liquid other than water. Since water is taken to be the reference value of density, 1, at STP, any other liquid such as acetic acid you can't measure the mass straight by measuring the volume.

Lets disregard the age of consent for a second. Do you think a paedophile raping a child is any different then having sex with a child who allows it?
Since the definition of rape is having sex with someone without his or her consent, and since the question asks that we disregard age of consent (meaning statutory rape is out), of course it's different. It wouldn't be rape at all. It doesn't matter if the child doesn't "understand" or whatnot the consequences of having sex at his or her age, he or she consented,...

What do you think of sites like www.perverted-justice.com and the Dateline NBC stings? Do you think the chilling effect they are having on internet pedophiles is a credible phenomena?
my opinion on the publicizing and tormenting of pedophile offenders is essentially a modern day witch-hunt. It's disgusting to me. I have nothing against punishing those who would harm children, but our view toward pedophilia is very misguided. which is too bad.

Answer to:
Paedophiles are wicked. But in this PC age, when it is considered wrong to vent hatred at almost anyone for any reason, do you think that some people use them as a legitimate target for all the bile that they can't get rid in any other legitimate way?
First of all, pedophiles are not wicked. You are accusing someone of a crime before the crime has been committed. Child molesters and rapists are wicked since they have by definition committed a crime. Simply being sexually attracted to a child is not a crime nor should it be. You might as well say homosexuals are wicked.
Secondly, it is considered wrong to vent hatred in any form. Anything...

Answer to:
What is 'Pax Americana Technocratica'?
Well "technocratica" is probably "technocrat" (whenever you see -crat, e.g. 'democrat' it's Greek) and it's a noun in the feminine form. Americana is probably an adjective describing it so the full phrase means "American Technocrat Peace." I say probably because these words did not exist in the Roman Empire.

"Let" is usually denoted by the subjunctive mood. For example, "let there be light" "fiat lux." Fiat is subjunctive of fio, fieri. Otherwise the verb is "sino, sinere"
"Pass" is a lot of words depending on a number of things. As a verb, I would say "intermitto, intermittere" which is a loose translation.
"Us" is...
