Answer to:
Have you ever tried to focus on the needs of another/others as a method to shake off your own "blues?"
Yes, and it does help, but if you go overboard, you risk becoming co-dependent or stressed from not taking care of yourself. It's also important to address the underlying issue causing your low spirits, or else they'll just be waiting for you when you come back from whatever you're doing.

Why are some people annoyed by things that do not affect them directly?
Maybe they're looking for validation. If someone else makes a different choice, then they feel that it's a rejection of their own choices.

I think it's a great investment. They will learn to be more creative, which is a skill that they can take with them whether they pursue a career in the arts or not.

Do you agree that people who look for "like-minded" individuals end up mainly just talking to themselves, and learning little or nothing?
No. "Like-minded" isn't the same as "identically minded". Very rarely will two people agree on anything. Though I do agree with you that there's much to be learned from people who are very different from us.

My girlfriends mom is constantly critizing me. My girlfriends just sits there and says nothing, how do I get her to stop?
Your girlfriend probably feels caught in the crossfire. A lot of people, especially young ones, have trouble standing up to their parents. But I agree with the others that she should stand up for you, for the sake of your relationship. Talk to her about how the situation with her mother makes you feel, and how you feel about her silence. Perhaps the two of you can agree on an appropriate...

specifically a guy friend? would he want to talk to you or avoid you?
It depends. If he already had an idea that you liked him, and he felt the same way, he'd talk to you. Conversely, if he's shy or he didn't know you liked him, he may need some time to process things.

I do not believe in tough love. IMO this is an ego driven person slamming into you to control. Nothing about it is love. Do you agree ?
Yes, I agree. A lot of times, what appears to be "tough love" is actually control. Consciously or unconsciously, the giver of tough love has crossed the line from helpfulness to oppression. They're acting out in anger because the other person isn't living up to their expectations. For this reason, I believe it is better to err on the side of gentler love in most instances. On rare occasions,...

How good are you about flossing your teeth?
Twice a day. But for some reason, my gums are still sore.
Answer to:
From a dental perspective can I eat whatever I want as long as I brush my teeth right away?
No. In fact, if you drink something acidic like soda or juice, you should wait 30-60 minutes before brushing. Otherwise, you will brush the acid into your teeth, damaging the enamel.
Answer to:
What is wrong with my gums? Please read description.
It sounds like you have gingivitis. This is not unusual in patients with braces, since it's difficult to brush and floss around them. You should see your orthodontist ASAP to determine a course of treatment.

Answer to:
Why do men and women get fat immediately after marriage?
Not everyone does. But for those that do, there are many reasons:
1. They no longer feel the need to diet to attract a mate. There's some truth to the saying "fat and happy".
2. The person who normally eats less might start eating as much as their partner.
3. They cook together for fun.

How do I tell my best friend that I want her to stop telling her boyfriend every thing her and I talk about??

Answer to:
Why can't people forget their religious-based hang-ups and indulge in constant, guilt-free sex?
Because most of these people were conditioned by their upbringing and/or religion to feel this way. Years of conditioning can be very difficult to break. It requires time, as well as the will and effort to change.

How could a parent never or rarely ever complimenting his or her child affect his or her child?
In a number of ways. The child may not have much self-confidence, and the parent-child relationship may not be as close as it would be if the parent encouraged the child. Sincere, well-founded praise from a parent is important to a child's sense of self.

There could be any number of reasons:
1. He's physically attracted to her.
2. He may have control issues
3. There may be a genuine mental connection there, but at any rate, he should wait until she's at the age of consent to be with her.

If you are unnatural, so am I. I don't have kids either, nor do I desire to. Really, it's not that unusual for people our age not to be married or have children. Some people are just threatened by those who make different choices from their own. If you are happy with your life, don't worry about them.

Can a parent being too overprotective about who his or her children date actually cause a problem for them? See description.
Absolutely. In teaching their daughters to be submissive, fathers (and mothers) don't give them the tools to make decisions wisely or say no to unsafe situations. I think you have carried these submissive behavioral patterns into your adult life, and that makes you vulnerable, which a lot of men will try to exploit. In order to break away from these patterns, you will need to put some physical...

It's understandable that you'd be disappointed. I don't see why they would have any objection to him going on a supervised family outing with you. What's the difference between inviting your boyfriend and say, inviting one of your girlfriends to come along? It sounds as if they don't approve of him and are trying to come up with reasons to exclude him instead of having an honest conversation...

I believe that everyone deserves love, but it's not entirely in our control whether we find someone or not. That kind of thing comes naturally.

Funny that. Men may not be able to get pregnant, but they still have to deal with the consequences. Santorum believes that birth control allows people to shirk responsiblity, when the opposite is true.

Why are women expected to wear makeup and men aren't?
That is a good question. After all, men have skin imperfections just like women. It is probably because societal standards of beauty are stricter for women. Even in today's modern societies, people evaluate a woman largely based on her physical attractiveness, where men are judged more on their personalities and abilities. It is a double standard.

Is it wrong to not love your mother?
No, love can't be forced. Some people are very difficult to love. I can understand why you would feel the way you do, because it sounds like your mother hasn't always responded to you in a caring way and tends to overreact to things. Be respectful and civil with her, but I don't think you're obligated to be sentimental and physically affectionate if you don't feel comfortable. If she demands a...

What makes long hair in men so attractive? (if you find it attractive) I prefer no longer than shoulder length.
I agree with you. Long hair on a man can be very attractive. Maybe it's because guys with long hair tend to be more free-spirited; they're breaking social conventions. Or it could be the influence of all those hot, long-haired guys on the covers of romance novels. :)
Answer to:
I like a guy but everyone thinks he is weird and not very bright.
What your friends think isn't as important as what you think. Do his quirks annoy you, or do you love him in spite of (or even because of) them? If you are willing to accept him for who he is, then give him a chance. Otherwise, you'll always wonder about what might have been.
Answer to:
Why are so many guys attracted to girls with blonde hair over any other hair color? I never understood this.
I have always wondered the same thing. Maybe because natural blondes are a novelty. I read once that 60% of women in the US were natural brunettes.

How do I break-up with someone I have 2 small kids with without hurting my children.
Unfortunately, there's no way to shield yourself or your children from emotional pain in this life. The best you can do is assure them of your love for them, and be there for them as they go through this loss with you. If they say, "I miss him,", say, "Me, too." Let them know that sometimes relationships end and it is not their fault. Best wishes to you and your family.

If you're already bored after two months of dating, that is not a good sign. The early months are usually a time of great excitement, novelty, and discovery. Staying with him when you aren't that interested will hurt him more in the long run than a break up will. Just make sure you're emotionally prepared to be single if things don't work out with the other guy.

Try new things and make time to be together one-on-one. Sometimes we get so caught up in our daily routines that we don't take time to really sit and listen to our partners. My husband wants to move to his family farm by his mother and I dont.
We have moved over 11 times in 30 years of marriage.
If both of you can't agree on the move, then both of you should stay where you are. Your marriage will be poisoned by resentment if you agree to a major life change that you don't want to make. Have you talked with him about why he feels the move is necessary? Have you explained to him why you don't want to move?
Answer to:
The ex-Mrs. Gingrich says Newt wanted an open marriage but she said no. Do you think an open marriage is better than infidelity? Why?
Only if both parties truly consent to the open marriage. Honesty is better than a lie, though only marginally better in this case. If a marriage starts out monogamous and then becomes open, I imagine that there would be lots of jealousy issues as the partners aren't used to "sharing" each other with other people.

If the husband agrees not to get angry with his wife for doing the same, or if he knows that she is receptive to an open marriage, then I don't think it's necessarily wrong. Somehow, I doubt that either of those apply to Gingrich's situation. And he is definitely not a victim.

I'm not sure. Probably because people are social animals and it hurts to be ostracized, even by people we don't care for. But I like your perspective. That's a good way to look at it.

What is your opinion of the musical group Blondie?
They are one of my favorite bands. Their Greatest Hits album is on constant rotation in my mp3 player. But I'm a little nervous to hear their new CD. There are a lot of aging rockers out there, with vocal cords that are shot, putting out mediocre albums just for the heck of it. I hope that is not the case with Blondie. Debbie had such a lovely voice back in the day.

Do you think of the 1980s as a good or bad decade for music overall? Why?
'80's music was great! There was a lot of underappreciated vocal talent (i.e. Dan Hartman) active during that time, and many of the songs had earnest, heartfelt lyrics. Also, a lot of it was just plain catchy!

Not necessarily. I've heard older people say it just as often.

Answer to:
why do some articles about modern dating insist that women only have sex to bond ? do some people really think that old fashioned
Because people are socialized to believe that women are more monogamous and have lower sexual desire. Therefore, if a woman is sexually active, then it must automatically be in the context of a romantic relationship. As you pointed out, this is not true for all women.
Answer to:
Why do people cry over a break up with their middle school and and high school boyfriend/girlfriend? It almost never lasts.
They're probably experiencing their first romantic relationships. The first breakup almost always hurts more than subsequent ones, because the person is experiencing that pain for the first time.
Answer to:
Why do some older women think that it's okay to touch someone else's kid?
Probably because they grew up in a different era in which people had a different concept of personal space boundaries. Also, since a lot of these women were probably mothers themselves, they think they know what's appropriate and inappropriate when interacting with children in a public space. They wouldn't think of themselves as a danger to someone else's child(ren). But that doesn't mean that...

Answer to:
How do I politely tell my parents I don't like one of the gifts they gave me?
How old are you? It's kind of rude for them to force you to use it, even if it was a gift. Still, I would not say anything right now and just hold onto any tags or gift receipts with the bag. Later, when you're not with them, you can exchange it for something you like better.
Answer to:
Handwritten thank-you note or immediate e-mail?
It all depends on why you're thanking the person. If it's for a gift, a job interview, an instance of hospitality, or the person did you a really big favor, then a handwritten note is best. But if the person did you a small favor, an appreciative e-mail would be fine.

Civil ceremonies, usually.
Answer to:
Is it wrong to not mary him b/c his family won't accept u b/c you're from a different culture? If so, why?
No, it's not wrong. As others have pointed out, hostile in-laws can ruin a marriage. But if this person is the love of your life, and you think you'd be haunted by regret if you left, then consider whether your relationship is strong enough to withstand those external pressures. Will he stand up for you against his family and put your marriage first? That is the only way a relationship can...
Answer to:
Do you agree aranged marriage by your elders or parents in today's society? Why
No, I don't. It's very important for a couple to have compatible personalities. But in an arranged marriage, the parents will probably choose a partner based on their own personality and interests instead of their child's.

Cant choose between two men?
Sexual attraction isn't the most important part of a relationship, but it is still important. You should really be on fire for each other when you are dating. I believe you are wise to stay on a friendship level with your HS sweetheart....

I'm assuming your and your boyfriend live together. I imagine he has a problem with it because you won't get much alone time anymore. Can adults use baby shampoo?
Yes, baby shampoo is perfectly safe, and it's good for adults with dry, damaged hair and/or sensitive scalps. Since it is lightweight, it won't weigh down fine hair. However, it doesn't remove oil as well as regular adult shampoo because it doesn't contain sodium lauryl sulfate (a lathering agent that bonds with oil so that the oil can be rinsed from the hair).

Because people are social animals. Our connections to others are important to our survival, both physically and psychologically. Do you ever feel that its your family and friends who are holding you back and youd be better off without their company?
There's definitely some truth to the adage, "It's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by a flock of turkeys." I have had people in my life who held me back, and in those instances I would try to distance myself from such people.
Answer to:

I have been with my boyfriend for two years. I am 17& he is 20. I am starting to question my feelings for him. Can I fall in love again?
Only you can say whether the relationship will continue, but I can tell you that it is normal to notice other guys. Just because you're in a relationship, it doesn't mean you are wearing blinders. I would not worry if you just look occasionally, but if you find yourself fantasizing ind epth about these guys, then it means you're not satisfied in your current relationship.
You also asked if you...
Answer to:
His ex asked him for $90 to help with her phone bill. She is and has been in a relationship with another man for years. Whats up with that?
Maybe her boyfriend is broke. But I agree with the others that it's not her request, but your boyfriend's response that truly matters.

Some authors use pseudonyms. On the internet some create sockpuppets. If what they write has merit why hide? Are they afraid/ashamed? Why?
There can be legitimate reasons. For example, J.K. Rowlling used her initials because she and her publisher didn't believe that boys would be interested in a book by a female author.

Answer to:
Which book characters do you find the most interesting? Why?
I like morally complex characters, people who can't be categorized as pure good or pure evil. Dorian Gray, for instance, commits horrible acts, but in the end he shows signs of being a sympathetic character because he wishes he could be a good person. Another good example is Rachel from Daphne du Maurier's My Cousin Rachel. At the end of the novel, it's still nearly impossible to tell if she...

If 77% of accidents happen in the home and 23% outside it, Is nowhere safe?
No, it just means that accidents are most likely to happen in the place where you spend the most time--home. But really there's no such thing as a 100% safety. In theory, even going out to the mailbox could be dangerous (you may get hit by a car). People just have to accept a certain amount of risk in their lives in order to function normally.

Why do a lot of people at school ignore me?
Don't feel bad. I was the same way at that age and still am to some extent. Even if someone is nice, people will unfortunately tend to ignore them if they are shy. Obviously some of us just don't have that personality type, but we can still learn from the attention-getters. Try to speak...

True or false? Many women on AB say they love sex but men still believe they don't. If so, why?
True. It's a communication issue. A lot of women love sex, but they're not communicating that to their partners for a number of reasons:
1. There remains a stereotype that women don't or shouldn't enjoy sex as much as men, so women don't share their enjoyment for fear of being negatively judged.
2. Perhaps they're sexually incompatible with their partners. They may enjoy the act of sex, but...

Why do many women insist on going to a fancy restaurant on the 1st date? why not something simple?
Maybe because it's a first date and they want to make it special. For some women, that means dressing up and going to a nice restaurant. But there are others who don't mind casual dining. Just look for a more casual type of girl. Or if you're really interested in a girl who wants to go to a nice restaurant, tell her you want to go to a fast food place, but then suggest a cheap and fun activity...

When is it okay to make such a big fuss about something that the person who did something wrong never does it again?
Unfortunately, there's no way to control a person's actions, so nothing will guarantee that they won't do it again. But if the person is repeatedly doing something offensive to you, you have every right to let them know you won't tolerate it. If this is a work-related situation, I wouldn't reccomend making a fuss, but you can take your concern to HR.

There's some truth to the adage, "Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen." It happens with both men and women. People tend to value things that are unavailable or difficult to attain. The harder it is to obtain, they reason, the more valuable it must be, and therefore they MUST have it.

For this reason, I think both genders have a right to expect a basic level of fiscal responsibility from their partners.

Depends on why he agreed to do that. Did the two of you have a fight beforehand? If so, then apologize to him over e-mail and let him know how much you want to have a good relationship with him. Although you cannot control his response, at least you can say you extended the olive branch.

Being able to remember the route is definitely a good thing. But if there is road construction along the route and you have to detour, you may get lost (unless you memorize an alternate route). When you start driving, you'll find it easier to remember street names.

Which ultimately causes more problems? Strict parents? or permissive ones?
In the short run, permissive parenting causes more immediate damage. Children with permissive parents are more likely to get in trouble with the law for underage drinking and drug use. Although these are serious behavioral issues, the children generally grow out of them by their 20's and early 30's.
However, if we are talking about the long run, authoritarian parents create negative effects...

Have rock music lyrics just degenerated in recent years into complete nonsense or is it just me?
Some of it has. A lot of songs are repetitive with weak rhymes and unimaginative lyrics. Look at sex and love songs from the past versus today. For example, "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" was a popular booty call from the '70's. The narrator in the song makes it clear he only wants to see the girl for a night of fun, but he does so in a poetic, artful way. Conversely, today we have...

False. Happy, healthy people don't want to die. But if someone is depressed or suffering from a terminal illness, death may be a relief to them. But I do agree that most religious people aren't more ready for death than anyone else. I once heard a country song with the line, "Lord, I wanna go to heaven, but I don't wanna go tonight." It could be jealousy. They might wish they could afford nice clothes or have better fashion sense. Also, there seems to be a stereotype that men shouldn't care about fashion, so those who dress well aren't considered "masculine". Obviously, that's not true. Both men and women wear clothes, so both genders can like fashion. I would not worry about what your friends think and dress how you like....

Any man you ask will probably have a bias towards the male perspective. That's what he knows best (the same can be said of women). However, some people are more capable of being impartial than others. You could ask your other male friends in order to get a more balanced understanding. But in the end, if you decide you don't trust their advice, then you have to follow your own.

Answer to:
Why do guys think women are whores just bc they have 2 kids by 2 different dads?
Because there's a sexual double standard in our society. Women are expected to have fewer sexual partners and be more inclined towards monogamy. So they are negatively judged for having kids with different men, while no one bats an eye if a man has kids with different women. In fact, he's considered a stud. Really, people should not judge these women because we don't know anything about their...

why do guys find lezbains fine but when its two guys its discusting, & wrong >? honestley whats the diffrence just diffrent genders
Because lesbians arouse them, and the gay males don't. In fact, a lot of men are repulsed by male homosexuality because they're insecure in their own masculinity. I agree with you that they are hypocritical. If one type of homosexuality is fine, then the other should be, as well.

Which "social skills" come across as phony to you?
A lot of the social niceties come across as really phony to me. There are many phrases we mindlessly repeat without meaning them, simply because etiquette compels us to do so. For example:
1. If someone is grieving--"Call me whenever you need to talk."
2. Two people meet after a long time apart. One tells the other "We should get together sometime."
3. And finally, there's the classic "How are...

Answer to:
Why did the person I am dating ask me to marry him right off the bat, and then later on try to put me off and deny it?
As someone else said, he was probably caught up in the honeymoon stage the first time he asked and now he's disappointed because he couldn't hold onto that illusion of perfection forever. Rather than having an honest conversation with you, he's using a technique called "gaslighting", or denying that the proposal ever occurred to make you doubt your perceptions. He is probably too immature to...
Answer to:
I usually get the 7-year itch in 7 months. Am I just allergic to marriage?
You're not allergic to marriage, necessarily. The infatuation is probably wearing off, and you're discovering all the ways that you and this other person are incompatible. You probably weren't aware of it at first because physical attraction blinds you to those other things. If someone is a good match for you, and you've found him/her at the right time in your life, you won't tire of him/her so...

What is with parents who do not want to take care of their babies? Why did they have babies in the first place if they do not want to?
A lot of people don't realize how much work a baby is. They think it's a doll that they can dress up and push in a stroller. In their minds, the child exists to meet their need for amusement and companionship, like a pet. So these emotionally immature parents become resentful when they discover that life revolves around the baby's needs for the first several months, even years. Before people...

That's an unusual situation. On one hand, she could just be using her dad as excuse, but I do know parents who try to dictate their children's relationships (i.e. mine). This sounds like a no win situation. Not only did she cheat, but apparently her dad doesn't approve of you, and she won't go to bat for you. You are probably better off without this relationship.

Would all those people being exploited by working at Walmart be any better off if Walmart disappeared right now?
No. They would probably end up in a different minimum wage jobs. Also, they have to shop at more expensive stores and spend more money on essentials like groceries and clothing. Wal-Mart is far from perfect, but their lower prices are a godsend for low-income families struggling to afford the things they need.

Why do we mourn the deaths of celebrities?
Because they became part of our lives as we watched their movies, listened to their music, and followed their careers over the years. In the case of someone like Elizabeth Taylor, many people have childhood memories of seeing her films. We feel that we've come to know the person through their art. Also, because celebrities are larger than life, it is difficult to imagine them dying. Watching a...

It's possible, since you had a lighter than normal period, but it's unlikely. First, the other symptoms you reported can show up during menstruation as well as during pregnancy. Answer to:
is it wise to date a few people before marrying someone or it is more special to marry someone having never dated anyone else
While each approach has its merits, I believe the first option is better. Bringing some experience to a marriage is never a bad thing. Dating a few people first gives you the opportunity to learn conflict resolution skills, self-sacrifice, and other good relationship habits. You will make mistakes along the way, but in the end, you'll be a more mature person for it.

Yes, you are. Do not cuddle with him anymore, and tell him that you don't have romantic feelings for him. Make sure you phrase it in exactly that way. So if you had two close family members conspire against you, what is the average time to allow them back in? Or do you even do that much?
When would I let them back in? Never, at least not emotionally. I would continue to deal with them when the occasion required (i.e. family holidays, funerals, etc.), but I would never be close with them again. They do not get another opportunity to hurt me.

Answer to:
How do you handle a mother that is negative and constantently critizes you, your children and significant other?...
Unfortunately, selfish, inconsiderate people like that rarely see the need for change. In their minds, the fault lies with others, not them. All you can change is the way you react to them. Try not take her unkind words to heart. Remember that, as an adult, you don't need to accept her version of reality or her expectations for your life. It's your life; you get to decide how you spend it and...

Answer to:
Since God has the ability to live alone, why do you think He wanted to create spirits on Heaven?
The typical answer is, "Because he was lonely." But stop and think about it for a minute. God is supposed to be perfect in every way. A perfect, supreme being would be complete in and of itself, lacking in nothing. If that is so, then why would he need anything, including companionship?
Answer to:
I have no curves...has any discovery on that subject taken place?...i had about lipo-plastic but am skinny( 50kg )and that would be impossible is there any other ways to get the curves i've always dreamed of?
You can't create curves where none exist, but targeted exercises can help to create the appearance of curves. For example, squats and lunges will make your bum look rounder and curvier. Also, exercises targeted towards the chest and upper body will make your chest muscles expand outward slightly, which will make your breasts appear more prominent (though this doesn't actually increase your cup...

A character from a sci-fi movie/show that you would gladly slap in the face?

How come a lot of younger celebrities are totally unfamiliar to older people on AB?
Generally, people pay more attention to celebrities from their own generation. Also, I think sometimes older people have a bias towards younger celebrities and view them as lightweights. But there are definitely some talented young performers out there, like Hailee Steinfeld.

As long as there are no romantic feelings involved, then it's not wrong. You are just hanging out as friends. What do you do when the guy you love used to say he loved you, but says he doesnt, even though he shows up everyday?
I would stop trusting in anything he says, because his words and actions do not match. That means that he's either a liar, or he's confused about the relationship. Neither one of those is desirable. You want to be with someone who genuinely loves you and is willing to show that love in word and action.

Yes, it is unfair, but as a woman I can understand why girls feel uncomfortable doing it. First, a lot of guys are turned off by a girl who makes the first move. Why do people have sex when they know it'll hurt and change their lives forever?
Barring any health problems, the physical pain is usually temporary. Also, not everyone experiences sex as a big, life-changing thing. But those that do often find that sex brings positive things to their lives, such as the opportunity to learn more about themselves, learn how to please a lover, and (if they're lucky) discover the love of a lifetime.

You feel guilty because it sounds like, in your heart, you seem to have wanted something to happen. You are obviously somewhat invested in this guy if you're concerned about what he thinks of you. There's a "Cosmos" drinking game where you are supposed to take a shot every time Carl Sagan says "billions", or every time he mentions extraterrestrial life forms. But I have never tried it because I figured you'd probably be toasted within 15 minutes. LOL.
Answer to:
I feel like sh*t all the time so im considering getting drunk once in a while , would that help or just make things worst
While it would temporarily elevate your mood, at the end you'd probably be more depressed than when you started (and possibly sick, too). I see no problem with drinking moderately, but if alcohol is your only coping strategy, then that is not healthy because what do you do when drinking no longer helps? It's better to talk about your problem with some understanding friends.

What do YOU believe is the best haircolor to have?
Red, because it's unique. Also, natural redheads tend to turn blond as they get older instead of immediately going gray, unlike us non-redheads.
Answer to:
When you see an elderly couple, why is it that almost always, the woman is the one who covers her gray hair ... and the man doesn't?
For women, age is a debit because younger women are seen as more desirable. So an older woman is more likely to conceal her age with hair dye, cosmetics, etc. Men do not care because women are generally more accepting of an older partner, and even tend to prefer them for them for their maturity.
I do agree with you that the hair issue is an unfair double standard. I don't think it should...

why does a guy act like he likes you but doesnt do anything about it like ask you out?????
There are several reasons:
1. He's shy
2. He's afraid of rejection--Not quite the same thing as being shy because even an outgoing guy can be afraid of rejection from a girl.
3. He likes you, but not enough to pursue a romantic relationship.
If you are very interested, make a move and see how he responds. In the end, it doesn't matter who does the asking, as long as both have a good time.

Im 20 and still a virgin and i want my first sexual partner to be a virgin too. but im affraid that ill never find a guy my age that is D:
It's still possible, but if that is the primary thing you look for in a mate, I would encourage you to broaden your horizons a bit. You may miss out on a great guy by excluding non-virgins from your pool of options. Even if you do end up with a non-virgin, that doesn't mean that his ability to love you will be diminished by his past experiences. You may not be his first love, but if the two of...

There are two possibilities. One, perhaps she is confused about her feelings for you and that's why you're getting mixed signals. Alternately, maybe she really does just like you as a friend and that's hwy she felt comfortable hugging you.
Answer to:
Why do some people lose their sense of humor as they age while others seem to learn to really laugh more?
I believe that as people age, they become more and more like themselves. So the cantankerous ones have probably been grim-faced their whole lives, and just became more so as they got older. The ones with a sense of humor have learned that laughter is good for the soul, a palliative for life's cares, and so they use it to cope with the changes in their lives.

Do women who dressed provocatively to get a man and changed to modest attire once they got one do so on their own or because hubby said so?
That depends on the woman. There are several possible reasons:
1. The woman feels she can "relax" now that she no longer needs to attract a mate.
2. Her husband said so--In which case she may want to consider changing her husband instead of her clothes. Dictating a woman's fashion choices is one of the first things that a controlling mate will do to a woman.
3. She may be growing more modest...

I'm in my mid-twenties. As long as I can remember, I was under the impression that forgiveness meant whatever thing that they did was ok.
Forgiveness doesn't mean excusing the act. It does not place you under any obligation to be best friends with the person who hurt you, or even let him/her back into your life again. What it means is that you will not hold a grudge against this person. Really, forgiveness benefits the forgiver as much as the recipient. It frees the forgiver's mind from the incredible mental energy that's...

Why is a person considered single (as opposed to being considered married)even if they are in a committed relationship?
Socially, a person in a relationship wouldn't be considered truly single, but for tax purposes, s/he would be. Not being an expert on tax law, I'm not sure why tax forms only have "married" and "single" categories. After all, in theory, a cohabitating couple could do many of the same things that a married couple would, like combining household expenses and owning a home together. I guess it's...

Yes, mainstream music isn't very good. Mostly, I prefer '70's and '80's music like you do (but I also enjoy some indie music because a lot of indie artists have a retro sound, like She & Him or Sugar & Gold).

What do you tell yourself before saying a difficult "no"?
It sucks to be made into the bad guy because someone won't take no for an answer. Just tell her, "As we've discussed before, I am unable to let you borrow the room because of XYZ." If you are comfortable allowing her into your home, you could add, "But the couch/futon/fold-out bed is available." Otherwise, give her the number for a good motel, and be prepared to stick to your guns if she shows...

Is it stupid if I broke up with my girlfriend because she doesn't give me head?
I'm going to go against the grain and say no, it isn't. Sexual compatibility is an integral part of a successful relationship. If oral sex is essential to your sexual satisfaction and you think you would've grown to resent her for refusing to do it, then you were right to get out of the relationship. Just make sure that when you do get into a new relationship that you're willing to give as well...

Answer to:
Why do so many older women wish their husbands' libido would go to zero? Why don't older woman want sex? (Menopause is not an excuse!)
There are several reasons. First, as others have pointed out, social conditioning teaches women that as they age, they grow more undesirable. Feeling undesirable certainly isn't going to ramp up her libido. Also, there could be problems in the relationship, such as her partner not being considerate in bed. If you are in this situation, then you should ask your lady why she's lost interest, and...

Yes, more than once. First case was with a friend of a friend. At first, I saw him as just an acquaintance, but when he asked me out a few months later, I began to see him in a different light.

Why do some parents complain about whats on T.V and that their kids are watching it in the middle of the night?
Exactly. Also, maybe the parents are modeling poor TV watching habits to their children. If the kids see Dad watching that violent slasher flick, they'll emulate that behavior. So parents should be careful what they watch around their children and explain to them that certain programs aren't appropriate for them at thier age. It's the parents' job, not the network's job, to monitor their...

Yes, he does, but some of those lies are well-intentioned (such as lying about his possession of the Sorcerer's Stone). True, there are many other times when he lies just to save his skin, but I don't believe he does it more than average. I once read a study that claimed that the average person lies 4-6 times day.

In todays world of equality, should the man be expected to ask the woman to marry him?
I think it depends on the couple. Some women feel comfortable enough to ask, but not all of them do. Some are a little more old-fashioned. They may believe that the man should ask because women are often more expressive of their romantic feelings, and the marriage proposal is an opportunity for the man to step up to the plate and show his love for the woman.

I didn't for a long time, but later I did. When I saw my first love for the first time, I knew that I loved him because he was shy in a sweet way, a lonely person who could use some love and appreciation. I wanted to be the person to give him those things. Unfortunately, "love at first sight" doesn't automatically become eternal love. It can be killed through unkindness and neglect, or the...

I don't think either situation would turn out well. I would not want to live with a rich man that I didn't love, but if I was homeless with someone I loved, the trials of poverty would probably strain the relationship, perhaps even to the breaking point.
Answer to:
Once you lost your virginity, did you feel forever changed? How? In what way did first-sex alter your self image? Whom did you tell?
No, not really. I was still the same person inside. The only thing that changed was that I became happier as a result of being desired by someone in that way. But I think that would've happened from just love itself, even without a deeper level of physical intimacy.
Answer to:
Is it normal for a guy with a girlfriend to call a female friend gorgeous and hot, then list qualities he likes about her?
It may be normal for a guy to talk about another girl in that way, but it's a very inconsiderate thing to do to his girlfriend. The dreams are a red flag. He is probably in love with his friend. He should be dreaming about his girlfriend, especially if they are still in the early stages of the relationship. He doesn't sound like a very good boyfriend.

I can understand why you're upset. You're probably uncomfortable with the fact that he will always be linked to this woman through his daughter. However, you should be glad that at least he has a picture of his daughter and not his ex. All you can do is say to her, "I'm sorry if that's what you thought you heard, but I never said that." If she doesn't believe you, that is her choice. Why do some people think right after meeting someone its ok to have sex right at that moment? does it actually make a relationship last?
Maybe a casual sexual encounter is all they want out of the relationship, and there's nothing wrong with that. Or maybe they're confident in their desires and see no need to wait. I don't believe that having sex will prevent a relationship from developing if both partners are seriously interested in each other. It's the person's intent, not the timing of the first sexual encounter, that...

That's a tough question to answer. While parental notification would seem like a good thing, there are some situations that argue against a "one size fits all approach" to parental consent:
1. In cases of rape, the girl should be allowed to make that decision for herself. This is especially true if incest was involved. No minor (or adult woman, for that matter) should be forced to bear her...

Sometimes, it just happens that way. But if it happens too often, you may have self-esteem issues. Maybe you subconsciously choose arrogant, self-absorbed women because they're "safe", so to speak.
