Why isn't being in love easy?
Tempus is right, you do need to sacrifice a lot. Sometimes you need to put the other person's priority in front of yours, you have to be mature enough and unselfish enough to want what's best for both of you. With so many blended families and financial problems today, there is a lot more sacrifice involved in relationships.

Answer to:
How did growing up in the country, town, suburbs or city affect what kinds of kids games you played outside? What did you do most?
I lived in a small city, which was more like a small town when I was a kid. We rode our bikes all over, jump rope, tag, hopscotch, roller skate on the sidewalks. In the summer we had our little kiddie pools or sprinklers, in the winter we had ice skating nearby and we would sled. At night we played hide and seek in the dark, our parents never worried about us being outside at night back...

If someone feels the question doesn't deserve a response, then they should move on without offering their opinion on the merit of your question. Not all questions appeal to all on AB, but all of us deserve to ask a question without the question being critiqued.

Kids! They're so natural and aren't afraid to smile at you when they notice the camera. I really like all the colors in my house now. Every room had fresh paint when I moved in and the only one I didn't like was my bedroom which was a very dark blue and looked rather dreary. I had the walls painted pale yellow and am much happier. I love the green some of the rooms here are painted, the bathroom is a pale cinnamon color which is also nice.

Since I've landed where I am several years ago, drive and efforts keep me going. I'm not sure if luck is the word I would use, probably blessings from above would be more appropriate in my case.

That would be great, we would actually get to hear their opinions on the issues, not just on their opponent. I did my homework in my bedroom. I always hung out at a nearby playground. In the afternoon the park was ours, we would get enough kids for a baseball game or just sit around and swing...

Obesity is becoming one of the major causes of death and ill health in many countries, do you think technology is the main cause?
The typical diet today is loaded with fat.. fast foods are part of the problem, and a lot of parents take their kids for fast food quite a bit, and now we have childhood obesity going through the roof. Lack of exercise due to the popularity of computer games, etc. certainly doesn't help either, and a lot of kids spend their summers in day care where there is little or no exercise.

I am going to see a thriller movie tonight called Last House On The Left. My husband doesn't like scary movies and I am going alone. Does anyone else see scary movies alone?
Yes, I love scary movies and watch them at home alone. Sometimes when you watch with other people they make comments, or jump, or do something to ruin the suspense at key points. Please let me know how you liked the movie, I haven't seen that one.

What do you think of the man's Prision sentence for throwing a shoe at George Bush?
He was initially facing 15 years.. so three years is a pretty brief sentence. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Bush, he was representing the office of President of the USA and should have been shown respect. I think the sentence should have been a minimum of seven years.

One guy lives an evil life and harms people and on his death bed he says "I'm sorry" and he's forgiven and gets to go heaven. Another guy lives his life according to the rules and hurts no one and he gets to go to heaven as well. How is this fair?
I guess love is the great equalizer. If a father had two sons, and one always screwed up, but eventually came to realize the error of his way and apologized, most fathers would forgive and love the wayward son as much as the son who led an exemplary life. I think we will all be judged with fairness and love. I just hope I'm forgiven for things I've done and don't think much...

Why do we reward people for doing the wrong thing? If what I have just heard is true, the Octomom is going to be living in a $500,000 home and Dr. Phil is going to be involved. I know he is an opportunist..but this is wrong. What do you think?
If the media didn't go on ad nauseum about Octomon and every other nut in this country, we would probably have less of them. She knew the media would give her so much publicity that someone would end up stepping in to provide her with the best of everything. So many parents are unemployed and worried about their children and no one helps them, all the help goes to these high profile IDIOTS.

Do think it's immoral for a parent to create a fake myspace so she can spy on her daughters friends?
I don't know if I would use the word 'immoral'. Maybe the parent is concerned their daughter is getting in over her head. It would be wiser for the parent to sit down and talk to her rather than to spy on her, but if the daughter is shutting the parent out and the parent is worried, then maybe the parent feels justified. I wouldn't want to violate anyone's privacy...

Having to wonder if the darn thing will be on time. Racing down the street wondering if you're going to miss the bus. Getting on the bus and finding the only open seat is next to a very shady looking guy. Getting off of the bus and stepping into a huge puddle as the rain pours down on you.

Do you think it could actually be possible to change your luck?
Yes, I do. People who feel they are unlucky sometimes have a pessimistic view of things in general. If they were a bit more optimistic, then maybe they would be open to the possibilities around them. They would also find that people would respond to them differently if they didn't walk around with a dark cloud around them all the time.

Back when she started to call you by her chosen nickname, if you accepted it, and maybe even laughed about it, then she thinks it's perfectly fine. If you've asked her to stop using it, then it would be disrespectful. The only person who can really answer is you, if you don't mind the name then I don't see any problem at all.

Why do people litter?
Great question! People litter because they think the rules are for everyone else, and there should always be someone around to pick up after them, being responsible and caring about the environment would never enter their little minds. They are self absorbed and care only for themselves and the world revolves around them.

I realize I'm the only one who can get me motivated and moving again, so I take that first step, which leads to the second step and I go forward. I didn't want to see them start smoking in high school like I did. I didn't think of myself as a hypocrite, just trying to give my opinion from my experience with smoking.

I have not changed my diet, but I have started walking at a brisk rate 2 to 3 miles a day. Will I lose weight doing this? I am a meat, potatoes and bread person. There are very few vegetables I like - one salad a week is about all I can handle.
If you're eating the same, then you should lose weight because you're burning more calories than you did when you weren't walking. If you drink soda and can cut down on just that one thing, that would help a lot. I recently read that soda, even diet soda or seltzers, can cause weight gain.

It's been awhile since I stayed in a hotel and I would really need to know it was clean and bug free.

Does your county have mandatory curbside recycling? Ours is in affect next month.
We have voluntary, not everyone chooses to participate. I don't mind at all, the city gets some money for the recyclables, plus they save the money they would have had to pay to process it as trash. I'm all for helping to keep taxes down and help the environment at the same time. Both curbside trash and recycling is free for us.

That's a tough one. I feel bad for kids who can't cope with divorce, dad's new wife, new baby, two other kids in the home, he acted out in the worst possible way, but probably wasn't premeditated. He probably lost his temper over something, and because he is too young to keep himself in check with a gun sitting right there, very easy for him to pick up in a heated moment....

Yes, last week a local soldier died, watching pieces of the service on the news, it was incredibly sad. My heart goes out to his family. He was only 22, one of many being killed over there.

I have several favorites, first one that comes to mind is Robert Frost, Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening.

His house is in the village though.
He will not see me stopping here,
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer,
To stop without a farmhouse near,
Between the woods and frozen lake,
The darkest evening...

It would depend on the circumstances, if they were detained at work and couldn't get away from a meeting, etc. to call, then I would totally understand. Do you read mysteries by any of these writers: Janet Evanovich, P.D. James, Ngaio Marsh, Ruth Rendell, Dorothy L Sayers, Phyllis A Whitney? Any book recommendations?
I read some of Phyllis Whitney's books years ago. I liked them at the time, but don't know if I would now. Mary Stewart and Phyllis Whitney were both very popular romantic suspense/American gothic type of books. I remember 'Winter People', 'Spindrift' and 'Listen for the Whisperer'. I was having a problem with my knee, so got a brace that I found online, it hurt more than it helped. It was a rather small piece that fit right under the knee cap and was a huge waste of money. I wore it to the mall and had to run into the ladies room to get it off me it hurt so much.

I'm fortunate that I have good insurance from work, even so, all the prices went up this year and it's gotten pretty costly. I have no idea how people without prescription coverage can afford to buy it. People shouldn't have to choose between their meds and other necessities, this is an issue that isn't going to go away and needs to be fixed.

Do you think finding good deals at online auction sites such as ebay & others is a good strategy for saving money - or is it a recipe for potential overspending instead?
I'm undecided about ebay, I've never made a purchase, but saw some footage on TV once about people who got ripped off. One consumer purchased an antique type of cabinet, but when they got it, it was in bad shape and parts had been repaired rather poorly. The item cost quite a bit and it seems they didn't get what was expected, so I would say overspending is a good possibility.

No, I don't. Apartments are very expensive, even with the housing crises, so a lot of 18 year olds can no longer afford it on their own. If you like fiction with historical settings, do you have favorite times or places you enjoy seeing characters in (which ones?) or does a book jacket convince you to read it and thus you travel to new times/places?
I like historical settings anywhere in the US, around the civil war or WWII. The jackets usually do persuade me or turn me off completely. If I enjoy a particular author, then I tend to look at other books by them, and depending on the jacket, I may buy it or not.

The 4 US presidents carved on Mt Rushmore were selected in 1923. If selected today, would Washington, Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt & Lincoln still be the top 4 choices?
I think the choice made in 1923 has stood the test of time. I wouldn't remove anyone, but do agree with other folks that FDR would be a worthy addition. Sad to say that the best presidents all served before 1923, or '45 to include FDR.

I think whatever goes on between two partners should stay between the two of them and not be spread outside the twosome..you know, keep the faith, keep the sanctity of the relationship. What do you think?
I totally agree Rosie, unfortunately people don't always follow that logic. I think part of the reason is that some younger people were never taught how to handle problems on their own or how important it is to keep personal issues private. Today people seek comfort and advice from others and reveal things that should really be kept in their home.

Answer to:
Do you think children have it easier now than you did when you were growing up?
They have it easier in some ways, families have more disposable cash now so children have good clothing, etc, but things are much harder in non-material matters. It's a harder world and they have to be prepared for it, need more street smarts and be less trusting than kids were in the past. They don't run around free playing in the neighborhood like kids did when I was growing up,...

If you had a doll house when you were a kid, what did you like best: building the furniture or objects to put in it , setting up each room or playing with your doll(s) in "their" house?
Setting up the furniture in the rooms and then changing it around, I got pretty bored after awhile though, because I didn't want to play with the little people in the house, just liked to move things around.

With the current state of our country, what do you see in the future for the USA?
Less consumption and more foreclosures as unemployment skyrockets. I think people will be forced to work until they no longer can because social security will be reduced, 401k's have plummeted, and with more foreclosures there are less people paying property taxes so ours will increase. I don't believe we can sustain this country on bailouts and borrowed money for long, expenses are...

Name one experience involving a pet or an animal which you will never forget.......
Years ago I had this really gentle male cat. He would go outside, but always ate in the house. One day he wouldn't eat at all, just kept walking from his dish to the door, back and forth. I finally realized he wanted to 'eat out'. I took his food and placed it on the porch outside, suddenly, four little kittens appeared and started to eat his food while he stood and watched....

I would feel if the person knew me well enough to say 'I love you', then they should know me well enough to trust me. I would wonder if the person would ever be capable of trusting me at all and trust is too important an issue to ignore. Does wanting to have kids make you more mature than your peers who don't want any?
No, wanting children, or not wanting children has nothing to do with maturity. There are mature and immature in each group. Other people choose not to have children...

If you only smoked for a month, then consider yourself lucky that you quit when you did because the longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit. I think any damage you've done to your lungs will clear up pretty quicky compared to long term smokers, their lungs can take up to 15 years to reach the point where they are pretty much back to where they were before they started to smoke.
