Although it is demographically, is the United States a Christian nation? Should it be?
It can be really hard to determine soneone's intentions when interpreting old documents and records in the light of current attitudes. Without conducting serious studies, my impression is that America was founded on Christian principles.
Note the was.
America is (from my limited experience) primarily a money grubbing capitalist nation. The overwhelming impression received by someone...

How do you feel your life?

Atheists can be as bigoted as any believer in god, so atheism alone can't guarantee a neutral perspective.

Is hand sanitizer better than just washing your hands with soap and water?
Soap and water are designed to clean. Sanitizers are designed to sanitize, which I expect means kill bacteria and viruses and possibly mould spores.
I'll go with soap and water - and preferably not the squirt-on stuff provided in public restrooms.

Why don't fingers ever fing?
It's a meaningless linguistic quirk that the word "finger" is similar to words where the 'er' is significant, such as "wrestle/wrestler"
I prescribe reading Ogden Nash, Shel Silverstein, and Spike Milligna, the well-known typing error. Then you'll have far more meaningless nonsense to worry about.

The one universal that will tend to make you attractive to everyone (not just girls and not just sexually) is confidence in you as you are and who you are.

Are there any good reasons to keep pictures of your ex? If so, what are they?
An ex is part of your personal history. In general, I'd say it's healthier to leave ex pics where they are than to carefully expunge all traces from your life.
Setting up something like a shrine and obsessing over the ex is another matter.
And demanding someone get rid of all traces of an ex sounds like a bad sign to me.

On AB or off AB it's all the same. Some people are naturally caring (or learned to be) and others like nothing better than to hurt. It's just easier to be cruel online in general, you are or at least feel totally immune from any meaningful retribution.
and don't forget that many on AB post questions designed to shock or offend or annoy.

a 32-bit operating system can handle a 4 GB address space. Since some of this address space is used to control the computer hardware, less can be used for addressing RAM - often 3 or 3.5 GB.
A 64-bit operating system can address up to 2^^64 bytes -- a lot more than 24 GB. Now this is only a theoretical limit - each operating system may have other factors which affect the amount of memory...

I doubt it. I've often heard the claim that women have less accidents than men, so it would seem that the roads would be safer if men were banned.
However, I did not see any statistics about how many women/men were involved in accidents per mile driven. That statistic might clarify things a little.

Who said murder cannot be forgiven? It can't be reversed, and people may be unable to forgive (and I can't blame them for that), but that does not mean God cannot or will not forgive murder.
There is mention of an unforgivable sin, but it's not murder.

What is 40% out of 13.95?
it is a simple math problem.

so multiply 13.95 by 40 and divide by 100 and there is your answer.
it's also a pretty healthy discount off that pair of shoes i've been needing for a while - but at 13.95, they're too cheap even for me. I'll look for something better.

I'm no expert here, but I think you were being chatted up. Dunno about creepy but I think it's almost normal. I was a little disappointed you didn't tell us which pickup line he used and how you reacted to it.
Of course if you had failed to respond to such a creepy approach, the conversation would probably have been a lot shorter than described.

I just tested the voltage on a AA battery (on my multimeter) and found it to be negatively charged, no matter which side I put the contacts on. I tested other batteries and they behaved "correctly". Can anyone tell me what is going on with this battery?
What you describe cannot happen with a regular battery and if the multimeter is working.
When set to a DC volts scale, the meter has a positive lead and a 'common' or negative lead. If you put the positive lead to the positive side of an AA cell and common to the negative, it will read a positive value. Reverse the connection and there will be a negative reading.
It is possible...

With both it depends on what you put into it. At the same speed, of course walking consumes more energy. A bicycle is about the most efficient mode of transport ever invented.

Power walking and bike racing will both leave you a hollow shell after a couple of hours

Compaq/HP computers come with recovery data on a small partition on the hard drive. Pressing F11 (I tap it every 1/2 second) starts the recovery process.
They also have a process to make recovery CDs or DVDs in case the hard drive fails, which makes the recovery...

Mind you, be careful of just being "good." The world does not particularly reward people for being "good." At best, that way lies middle of the road.
The world does reward those who know what they want and go for it, who see opportunities and take advantage of them, people who make their woeld what they want it to be.

He's a politician. As such he says whatever suits the occasion.
of course there are many ways of looking at things and there is usually a way to say something that gives a misleading impression in such a way that it could be claimed that it was not a lie.
but it would also be hard to claim it was really honest.

The problem is that the logical conclusion of this kind of justice is the vendetta - when no one can remember who...

My physics professor said that if a person went out in a spaceship travelling at 99% the speed of light for 10 min according to him, that in real life much more time has passed. Is this true?
Yeah, strange but true your professor knows that he's talking about. it's been tested with a pair of clocks - on on the ground, on on spaceship.
The science is part of relativity - as an object approaches the speed of light, time slows down. The closer it approaches the speed of light, the more it slows down, and 99% is pretty close.

Fact. Like it or not, politicians create laws....

The acceleration due to gravity on planet X isone fifth that on the surface of the earth. If it takes 4.2 seconds for an object to fall a certain distance from rest on earth, how long would it take to fall the same distance on planet X? Answer in secs.
Yeah, that's a good question. The information you are given about Earth tells you the height from which the object was dropped, and then you can calculate how long the object will take to fall under the reduced gravity of planet X.

My laptop... I just got it, and recently the disc drive has been popping out, when I push it back in 2 seconds later it pops back out again!!!
What is wrong with my laptop??
How do I fix it?
well - if you mean hard drive you have a serious problem
Do you mean CD/DVD drive? I'd look for virus or other malware... or maybe an eject button that's stuck in
if you can disconnect the internal optical drive, it's easy to plug in a USB drive.
you didn't say if you bought it new or used. If there is a warranty get it fixed asap

How can I put hooks on the ceiling without drilling any holes? (Four hooks for a hanging bed canopy..)
I do not think you can.
The ceiling is probably sheet rock - a notoriously fragile and structurally unsound material. The only way to attach hooks would be with some kind of adhesive - it may hold for a while but eventually it will most likely fail. And if the ceiling has been textured, that will make it harder to affix the hooks.
In this application, I would not trust sheet rock...

In Ethnic Cooking, there is no category for British cooking! (also no category for american cooking!) Why is that?
Perhaps the ethnic cook books you're reading are generally English or American. Starting from that point, "ethnic" just means anything but "normal" English or American food.
Perhaps if we found a (say) Italian ethnic cook book, it might indeed include a recipe for a bean and broccoli casserole, and a side note on bubble-and-squeak.

I have a Shure SM mic that I need to plug into my camera. When I use an xlr to 1/8 inch cable into the camera's mic input, there is no sound. Do I have to buy an XLR converter?
It depends on the sensitivity of your mic input, the wiring of your cable and exactly what your camera expects.
The Shure mic uses XLR connector - 2 pins (LR) for signal in opposite phase (basically one each side of the pickup coil), and one (X) for screen. This configuration provides what's called a balanced signal and is good for noise immunity. One feature of this wiring is if you...

Do girls that dress overly sexy have the right to complain when the only guys they attract just want to be physical (not emotional) with them?
Sure, they have a right to dress how they like and believe it will have no effect on the people (boys) they talk to.
They then have a right to complain.
Does it make sense? No, but since when did girls ever make sense?

I'm no expert but....
Sinuses are hollow cavities that open into the nose. The lining of the sinus is a mucous membrane, so it tends to produce mucous. in a dual-core processor there are in fact 2 complete processors operating completely independently, but I think most people would think of them as operating in parallel rather than tandem. In an ideal (and usually quite unachievable) situation, they can do as much work as one 4.6 GHz processor.

Just the linguistic detail that one person can only be one atheist.
and the minor detail that you might possibly be wrong.
Answer to:
You are an athiest and just don't believe in anything you cannot physically see no matter what. You believe everything just happened with absolutely no belief in an invisable fairytale god and his son. You then die; do you have fear??? Think about it.
Logically what is there to fear?
Personally I find this kind of nameless fear based attack to be reprehensible. Consider yourself reprehensed.

Fresh pasta tastes very different from dried pasta. I prefer it but I can see that not everyone would.
Dry pasta is pretty cheap so there would not be much savings there, but fresh pasta is a lot more expensive and relatively heavier because of the water content. It might well be worth making it as opposed to buying fresh pasta

Why do markets continue to sell tomatoes at $2.49 a pound when it's the main season and tomatoes are very abundant? Don't they realize people can go to any farmer's market and get them for $1.99 a pound?
They charge what they can get away with. If people in general did go to the farmer's market, things would change.
The 99c store here sells milk for $1.99 a gallon. HEB sells it for $3.50
Sun Harvest (a downmarket Wholefoods type store) typically sells onions for 50c/lb. HEB is closer to $1. The stores are 1/4 mile apart.
They do because they can.

It also depends on how efficient the Verizon spyware scanner is.

All sports can be boring to watch (even football and especially baseball) if you don't know and don't care what's going on.

Legal language has grown up over centuries and after the government drafts the law, the courts then work out what they meant. Once it's been established, the phraseology gets reused because now we know what it means (at least until a higher court comes to a different opinion)

Bind the tufts of hair at their roots so they stand up
apply a different colour to each tuft
wear your new spiky look with pride. Remember to polish the foil at least weekly

It is the way of life. There is little to your advantage that is not at the cost of another. Of course it could be argued that if your advantage costs another, then his/her advantage had to be at your cost in the first place.

I've once picked up a soldering iron by the wrong end. I got enormous blisters on my thumb and forefinger. The pain was unbearable.
I imagine burning to death would be worse, at least until you lost consciousness due to shock. At that point surviving would mean weeks of similar pain while you healed.
Drowning, though still not pleasant, has got to be mild by comparison.

Did your new hed gasket help for a while? If so you may have a warped cylinder head (caused by overheating) as suggested elsewhere - skimming the head can fix that.
If not, there seem to be two places you've not considered. The heater core and hoses may have a leak, but they'd not cause overheating until enough coolant had leaked...

Credit Card APR. Say i buy a TV for $100. If my APR is 20%, would i have to pay $120 to the credit card company?
No. It all depends on how you handle the payments. Ideally, you should be able to get away with $120.
With penalties and interest, you might end up having to pay $1200 to the credit card company.
Answer to:
I have three credit cards with a total credit line of $4,300. I don't use my credit card often, but would like to apply for this mastercard because of the low APR. Should I apply for this new card or not?
Depends - if you want the credit card companies to slowly syphon the life out of your bank balance, go ahead. Low APR is introductory scam only - make one mistake (late payment and they go out of their way to help you do that) and it becomes 22%.
Remember banks are never your friends - they are vampires that will drain you dry given the chance.

However, I do know that compatibility is PC design is very important - the newer spec can usually fallback and work to the original specifications. One example of this is the AGP 1x/2x/4x/8x - they could all drop back to support an older...

What is solar power and how does it work?
There is an enormous exothermic reaction going on in the yellow light in the daytime sky. It provides all the effective energy reaching this planet.

What is that website called that you can go on and name a price you want to pay for a hotel? I've seen commercials for it, but I don't remember the webiste :(
That's all it is - advertising hype. I've used Priceline a couple of times and found that the hotels did not accept any offers, and if they had, the service fees imposed by priceline would have offset any savings.
However, the take-it-or-leave-it prices on Priceline were good, and the "reduced booking fees" not too bad so I did book there.

Just ask yourself whether jeans would make a good or bad impression on the judge. Who knows, you might get a laid-back stoned out hippy judge - but the odds are not in your favour.
Of course you may be trying to impress the judge with your poverty.. If so, don't wear expensive designer jeans.

Although the program was often successful, legal considerations forced them to close their doors as survival could not be guaranteed.

Answer to:
I'm in Ontario. I drive my husband's car, its only his name on the title. I worry that if I get pulled over, I won't be able to prove I have a right to drive the car. Should I carry my marriage certificate? I have a pretty severe phobia of police.
Get a dated signed statement from hubby that you have his permission to drive the car at any time to any place that you deem fit.
Mind you I'm in Texas so what do I know of Ontario.

Tracfone, Go Phone, Net 10. Which is better?
Ah, lemons, cantaloupe, or pineapple - which is better?
It depends what you want.
Net10 IS tracfone - for heavier users. Go Phone I hardly know. but all the prepaid cellphone carriers have different ways of charging for basically the same thing. Want an emergency phone? then a $1 for each day you use it sounds like a bargain.
My choice is Net10 - with 150 minutes (or 300...

How many Nobel Prize winners were "Khazar Jews &/or Freemasons" and should they be allowed to compete while being in a Sceret Society who's with holding knowledge from the world?
Well I can't answer the first part of your question, as I've never studied Nobel prizewinners, Khazar Jews, or Freemasons.
However, if they were in a secret society, how would we know to exclude them? It would after all be a secret.
And finally, a Secret Society is a thing, not a person (except in the legal sense), and so "which" is correct, not "who."

Answer to:
You always dreamt of being a doctor. You promised God you will not become a doctor and then you promised you will become a doctor. Can you become a doctor?
Oh yes good question. It depends on having or being able to borrow 200k for tuition (approx) and being smart enough to get into and survive medical school.
Judging by your progress so far, the chances are slim.

Answer to:
Is it me or does it seem like the music on a CD has better fidelity at the beginning of the CD, rather than at the end?
That was true of LPs for various reasons... LP track moves fastest at the edge, the needle/groove angle is most easily set accurately at the edge... and at the very innermost grooves on very long albums there could be a noticeable loss of quality.
CDs start at the inner edge (that's how different size CDs can be played easily - they all start at the same place) - and the digital...
