Answer to:
Does a superhero have to have a weakness? If yes, why?
Because otherwise, he'd be a god.
And even the Greeks gave their gods and heroes weaknesses. Remember Achilles' heel?

How much does a 1990 frieghtliner tractor with three axles weigh
That would depend on a lot of things. If it doesn't have a sleeper and has a Detroit Series 60 engine, alluminum wheels, and a 10-speed transmission, it could be as little as 12,000 lbs. If it has a big sleeper, a 13-speed transmission and a Cat engine, it could approach 20,000 lbs.

Has anyone googled there own name, and what results did you get?
I found a lot of references to writing I have done. I do this every so often, and I almost always find a number of new sites using my writing without my permission.
There is also a fellow in England with my name. His web site basically says he's not me.

Answer to:
What is America's largest trucking company?
The company with the most trucks in the U.S. is, I believe, either the United States Post Office or UPS. However, there are a number of large trucking companies with 10,000 trucks or more. JB Hunt, Swift, Schneider, and Werner are all up there, too.
Wal-Mart has many dedicated carriers. In fact, I work for one of them: GreatWide Dedicated, which carries Wal-Mart groceries.
Answer to:
Who shuts the door when the bus driver gets off?
He closes it himself. Most buses have a lock to hold the door closed if the driver is not going to be getting back on shortly.
Answer to:
Should those who work in the oil and gas industry feel guilty about pollution even though they try to be as carbon neutral as possible in their home life?
Not at all, unless they did it on purpose. Odds are, they didn't. Oil and gas have made it possible for most of the world to live a safer, longer, better-fed and housed life. And no producer would produce pollution on purpose; most of it has been a by-product unknowingly produced. Pollution is waste, and no company will produce waste if it can find any way to do it otherwise.

The Mormon church discourages marrying "outside the faith." What the punishment for it might be is anyone's guess!

I have a $100,000 dollar 1934 gold certificate. How much is it worth, and how can I find out whether it's authentic?
It's not real. Nothing that large was every circulated. So, it's worth nothing.

A cop had me do a 30 second one legged stand field sobriety test that over half my friends couldn't do in their living rooms! How can they get away with this? Is it just to make money?
Nope. It's to find out if you're drunk. That is only one of the tests they give, and it isn't one of the surest. Actually, one of the best tests is having you follow, just with your eyes, some object as it moves around.

Why is it legal for legislators to write laws like the Patriot Act that go against the Constitution?
A legislature can write any sort of laws that it wants to. Mark Twain said, "No man's life, liberty or property is safe, so long as the legislature is in session."
However, if someone who is harmed by a law (and virtually every law operates by taking rights and priveleges away from someone) can take the government to court. Ultimately, it may end up in the Supreme Court,...

Answer to:
Why do most 18-wheelers have manual transmissions instead of automatic transmissions?
These days, the answer is that that is how it's always been done. Today, there are very dependable "auto-shifting" transmissions, which are actually the manual transmission with electronic and air-powered shifting. This is becoming more and more common, largely for safety reasons (a driver can concentrate on his turning instead of having to pay attention to gears), but also for fuel...

You are eating in a nice restaurant when you discover a hair in your food. What do you expect the owner to do?
If it is clear the hair was IN the food (in other words, came out of their kitchen that way), I would expect an apology, a replacement of the food with some other choice (assuming all the food in that batch would be "contaminate"), and a big discount or a free meal, or possibly a free meal at a later date.
It the hair (or other foreign object) was not clearly in the food, but in a...

Why are so many American and Australian places named after places in Europe? Could they just not be bothered to think up new names?
For the same reason you probably have the same name as someone your parents knew. We look for the familiar, we re-use the same names, etc. If you want unique place names, look in Oklahoma, where there are a lot of "new" names from Indian words.

I've heard with birth control it is not good to stay on it for too long at a time because it could cause problems. Is this true? If so, how long would that time frame be?
If you mean the pill, unless you're a smoker, it's pretty much a win/win situation. You don't get pregnant, and you don't have a lot of other problems. Women who are smokers seem to have a little more cancer, but even under those circumstances, researchers say fewer women die of those cancers than would have died due to complications of pregnancy. Be sure to use it properly, follow your...

We just met with a realtor and signed all the paperwork. it's been two weeks and we haven't done anything - not sure to sell now or in spring. we just met a different realtor who we feel will do a much better job. can we cancel our contract (12mo)?
You signed a 12-month listing? Bad idea! 90 days is much more standard, and 30 days is not unheard of.
I'm not a lawyer (although I used to be an agent and assistant manager), but I would say legally you can't cancel the contract unless the agent has failed to perform according to the contract, and even then you're on shaky ground. But the first realtor may release you, if they haven't...

How can I train my kitten not to bite insulated electrical cords?
"Bitter apple" is probably what the previous person was thinking of.
You can also mix water and tobasco sauce and put it on the cord, if it's not exposed a lot. This can get pretty strong-smelling, but the kitten won't taste it more than once, if you make sure it's strong enouhg.
Answer to:
What is in boxed cake mixes that make it so you only have to add eggs, water, and oil to it?
The answers above are correct.
But the funny thing is, when cake mixes first came out, all you had to add to them was water. They sold very poorly. It turned out that women felt like they weren't "making something for their family" when all they added was water, so the manufacturers eventually removed the ingredients you mentioned so that the women would feel like they were more...

Answer to:
Why do so many people keep their cats permanently indoors?
1. The domestic house cat is just that...a HOUSE cat, not well adapted to outdoor life. They are too small to defend themselves well against dogs, coyotes (yes, your town has them, if you're in the mainland USA), etc. A 10-pound cat will lose every time against a 3,000-pound car.
2. Outdoor cats that are allowed to breed can, in theory, produce thousands of offspring. House cats are the...

Answer to:
Do cats purr around other cats, or just around humans?
Purring is apparently a cat's way of requesting attention. Mother cats do it to apparently calm their kittens, and kittens do it while nursing.
But even a severely injured cat will sometimes purr, and vets have heard cats purr right up to the moment of death. In fact, I saw it happen to one of our cats, years ago, who got hit by a car. The theory is that this is a desparate plea for...

A piece of gravel from the back of a semi-truck hit and cracked my windshield. How much could I get from filing a lawsuit against the truck company?
If the truck was a gravel truck, and was losing part of his load, either over the top or through the tailgate, most companies will pay for your windshield repair.
However, if it was just a stone picked up in the truck's tire, you're out of luck. Ask your insurance company; the odds are good they'll just tell you to file your claim on them and be done with it.
You...
Answer to:
Have there ever been any semi trucks powered by gasoline rather than diesel? What mileage did they get?
Yes, although in those days, loads were lighter and trucks were smaller than they are now. There were any number of pejorative names for such trucks.
One of the largest trucking companies in the U.S., Werner Enterprises, was started by Clarence Werner with one Ford gas truck. From there he developed a company of some 8,000 trucks.
Answer to:
Where can I find a universal tow bar that clamps to the bumper and does not require any drilling?
U-Haul used to rent such a device, but that quit working when most cars quit having chome bumpers. Today, the best you could hope for would be tow bar that attaches to the tie-down eyes in the front of the frame, and even that would have to be specific. Check with the companies that rent/sell towing hitches and motor homes; many of the them carry vehicle-specific towing equipment, for those...

Answer to:
Can the skills to drive and handle a semi be taught, even if the student doesn't have much experience with a manual transmission and almost no experience backing a trailer?
Most any motor skill can be taught, but it has to be practiced at great length to become "muscle memory" skills. Oddly enough, previously-learned skills in driving may not transfer to truck driving skills. Trainers have said that women often learn to shift more quickly than men do, because they don't have pre-conceived notions of how to do it before they start being taught.

What is the approximate weight of a 1997 Freightliner semi-tractor?
That would depend a lot on the truck's configuration. In other words, is it a cab-over or conventional? Does it have a sleeper or not?
A cab-over non-sleeper single-drive-axle truck could be as little as 12,000 lbs. A conventional with a large sleeper and two drive axles could be as much as 22,000 lbs.

What is the average oil change interval in miles for a semi tractor?
The 15,000 mile average is correct...but...
Actually, that is the recommended oil change interval on some engines. My Cummins ISX 15-litre engine is recommended to go for 25,000 miles between changes. Others have other recommendations, but there's a caveat in the soup, so to speak. You should have the oil tested, and change it according to how your tests come out.

How much does a wheel from an 18-wheeler weigh?
A wheel (just the metal part) can be in a wide range of weights, depending on the metal it's made from and its size. A steel wheel will come in around 50 pounds, and an aluminum will be significantly lighter, less than 30 pounds, for a standard tractor/trailer sized wheel, the most common being 22.5 inches in diameter and about 9 inches wide.
The tire is a good deal heavier,...

What are the lyrics of the French part of "The Partisan," by Leonard Cohen?
Les Allemands étaient chez moi,
ils m'ont dit "Résigne-toi",
mais je n'ai pas pu;
j'ai repris mon arme.
J'ai changé cent fois de nom,
j'ai perdu femme et enfants
mais j'ai tant d'amis;
j'ai la France entière.
Un vieil homme dans un grenier
pour la nuit nous a caché,
les Allemands l'ont pris;
il est mort sans surprise.

What is the "pink slip" in Little Deuce Coupe by Jan and Dean?
The "pink slip" is the paper showing ownership of the vehicle. Without it, you don't own the car. "Racing for pinks," as we probably all know by now, means racing to win the other competitor's vehicle. The winner will own both cars.
In the "Little Deuce Coupe" song, the singer is saying if you don't believe it's fast, I'll bet it...
