Answer to:
What do I do if my cat doesn't want to clean his butt?? (description)
The wet wipes you have been using.. are they purely water, or do they have a smell/taste that your cat may dislike?
Is it a lot of poop or just a 'left-over'? Doesn't he clean at all, or does he clean himself but only superficial? Some cats are cleaner than others.
However if he doesn't clean his butt at all, that's not normal behavior, it sounds like a psychological thing since a cat always...

Why do you think many users have left AB?
I have been on AB since 2008. I always had periods when I was here a lot, and periods when I was hardly here. Last year I was a lot on AB, but by the end of the year I found it to be increasingly boring, with all the same questions being asked over and over again. I have a lot of other activities in my life and though I still find AB enjoyable at times, being bored about it was taking over. I...

Fiction captures the spirit of the time it was written in, which I find to be a very good thing. Remakes which place the story in an other cultural perspective, or perspective in time, can be interesting, but I think it should have an interesting purpose, and not just the changing of...

Seems that in his agenda, he's got something to win by getting back to you while still telling you lies. If women are not as sexually active as men then why do some women become porn stars or work in a brothels?
There's no universal answer to the question why women work in the sex industry. There are many personal reasons.
Many women are only in it for the money, it's just a job for them. Some like it, some hate it. Some are forced to work as a prostitute. Others just think it's a brilliant way of having some fun and earn loads of money.
And though it's real sex, it's not that difficult for a woman...

Tattoos always hurt to a more or lesser extend, but it's a pain that is really not that difficult to stand through, as long as you are relaxed....

It's listed as a crime/drama, but it is hillariously funny at times. If you can get your hands on it, you should watch it!

Is it really too much to ask for Atheists and religious people to all get along?
It is very possible when there is mutual respect. I have a few friends who are religious and we never have a problem with each other. Why do most child molesters only molest boys? are they all homosexuals?
With all the commotion about the catholic church, people seem to forget that the most cases of sexual abuse takes place at home, within families, and in other places close to home. The victims of child abuse are girls and boys. The numbers for girl victims are much higher, but the figures might be wrong because the taboo is bigger for boys. Still, there are probably more girl victims of sexual...

No, That's not normal and it is certainly unhealthy.

What is the best book you have read in 2011?
I honestly have to say that I haven't read that many recently.. though I am reading two right now.
A good one I read this year was 'Picking up the Pieces' by Paul Britton.
The books I'm reading now (and they are both good) are:
'The Guru Papers' by Diana Alstad and Joel Kramer, and 'The Lucifer Effect' by Philip Zimbardo.
They are all non-fiction.

It is a family only thing. Just tell your mother that this is the way the family wants to have it. Since you are part of the family (as the daughter's boyfriend), you are invited, but your mother is not, as she is not a part of the family. She will hopefully understand this and respect it. It's not that she is left out and that it is a personal thing, this is just the way the family wants to...

What was the best television series of 2011?
The 4th season of Breaking Bad was really good..!
I've heard that the new series 'A Game of Thrones' gets very high scores but I haven't watched it yet, so I can't tell from experience/personal taste.
An other new series is American Horror Story, of which I really liked the beginning but am not sure of in which direction it goes, as halfway the first season it seems to loose it's strength.

Why are so many people on the Internet devoid of empathy?
One reason is that more and more people seem to be too much focussed on themselves anyway, in real life too. There still are a whole lot of very friendly people, but when I compare it to when I was a child, it seems that society has hardened a lot.
An other reason might be that they are not directly confronted with the other person's reaction (and body language). In real life, you get an...

Atheist: isn't it awkward to be taking a strong stand against a belief many of you believe are calling pure mythology?
1) You must obviously still believe in santa as you state that 'he (santa) costs people most of their yearly savings'. Santa doesn't cost us anything, as he is not real. What costs us money is giving in to the tradition of buying christmas presents. If that means the biggest part of your year's savings, you are an idiot for spending so much.
2) I never have people who believe in santa...

Without the lust for sex there would be no pedophile priests, no rapes,no nymphomaniacs, no satyrs, no nuthin'! Is sex ultimately evil?
Sex and lust are not 'evil'. They give pleasure, stimulate the production of healthy happy hormones and have more benefits for our mental and physical health.
When someone forces an other person to do (or undergo) something against their will, that is what I would call 'evil'. It is not someones sex drive doing it, it is the person doing it.

God is a subject that almost never pops up in conversations in my off-line life.

It is only here on AB that the subject comes by regularly. And you will hardly ever see me mentioning it without people asking questions about atheists or atheism.

When is a defense mechanism healthy to have? When is a defense mechanism unhealthy to have? To either or both, why?
A defence mechanism defends our system from basically being hurt. It helps us to cope with trauma and in a way to protect us from reality, if that reality is damaging to us.
For example; a child is not given the love it needs. To protect the child from this pain, it will learn to block itself from the need it has.
The child may develop the attitude of: "I do not need anybody". Which isn't...

Answer to:
What phrase or comments would not motivate you?
My former boss used to constantly replace the word 'problem' for 'challenge'. So every time there was a huge problem, and for years the business was on the verge of bankruptcy (and us on the verge of being unemployed), it was called a challenge. Also, whenever he set us an impossible deadline, again, it was always a 'challenge', he never admitted that we had a problem. He used this to motivate...

Answer to:
How do women know how to have children, but NOT know how to have orgasms?
Women do not have to know anything about having children to get pregnant and give birth.
Most women dó know how to get orgasms. If they don't, it might be that they are told (threatened is a better word) that touching themselves is a big dirty sin which will lead them to hell, and they also haven't met the right partner.
Which in both cases is horribly sad.

Which one do you think would be more traumatic for you ?
To see your Nana naked,Judge Judy naked or Lady Gaga naked
My nana is dead for long and probably turned into a skeleton right now, which I could handle. But if there would be any flesh, that would be the most traumatic one.
Judge Judy would be second... I think I don't want to have that image burned into my memory.
Lady Gaga is of no trauma at all, I would have no problem whatsoever with her nakedness and I don't care if she is a woman or intersex....

What makes a person come across as bitter to you?
Constant negativity.
When their own personal frustrations about their own lives are constantly projected towards the outside world.
People who I consider to be bitter do not ( or hardly ever) really enjoy anything. They always find reasons to be negative about something, and are often self centered. It's always someone else to blame for their misery and anger.
Life is all one big...

What could I do to help heal a cut in a sensitive region?
First of all; if the wound is big or starts to show trouble, you should go to a doctor! You don't want anything to go out of hand down there.
Anyway, I'll give you a link to an article about the aftercare for a vaginal piercing. This may sound weird, but after all; it's also a wound that needs to be taken care of really well, in that same area.
Just replace the word 'piercing' with 'wound'....

Sounds to me that you do not need a doctor :)
Some people are more introvert than others, and there is nothing wrong with that. Might also be that you are insecure about yourself, and not used to hearing your own voice in public. How is it that some people are willing to let their daughters and wives walk half naked on the streets? Is this normal and I don't know?
What do you mean, that daughters and wives have owners or something? That men should control the way a woman dresses?
What is normal is that women decide for themselves how they want to live and dress. What is abnormal is men who think they should have control over women.

Do you think pedophilia is a choice or the way they are wired?
Pedophilia is classified as a mental disorder by the DSM-IV (American Psychiatric Association's, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Edition).
To get treatment for it or not, and to act out on it or not, is a choice.

I wish I knew. I know exactly which user you are talking about. I assume that this question will be removed too pretty soon. What I just hope is that more people see what this is about and which so-called 'respected' user manages to let disappear comments, and even whole questions, to make himself look better. I hope you stay Juice, if you leave because of him, that sucks.

I have to be reasonably organised, as I am quite chaotic by nature and if I do not organise certain things, I get totally lost. For instance, my keys are always attached to my trousers, because if I don't do that, I can definitely not find them anymore. Same for emails, bills and such, if I don't do it right away, I forget all about it or it gets lost in piles of paper and such.. So I used to...

Why are there so many questions on AB asking "should women do this?" or "should men do that?". Is there any need for such sexist drivel?
Honestly, those questions can touch quite a sensitive nerve in me at times... Often they have such a huge generalisation in them, and just as often I can not find myself in those generalisations at all. 'You women this' and 'you men that' almost always feels wrong to me.
Admittedly, if it is about prostates or giving birth there might be a point to them. ;-)

what if anything do you, do to help boost your immune system?
Eat healthy, drink healthy, get plenty of fresh air and sunlight, and listen to my body if I need to rest. Also, the more happy hormones the better, so enjoying things and the reducing of stress is very good for the immune system.
If I feel that I'm getting a cold, I take extra vitamins. Preferably by eating more fresh veggies and fruit, but an occasional vitamine pill can't hurt. ;-)

How do you comfort a friend whose parent died from an illness?
You can not take away his pain. But what you can do is be there for him. Listen to him when he needs to talk, put an arm around him when he needs it, let him know that you care and that he is not alone. Ask if he needs something and what you can do to help. Your friend knows best what he needs and wants right now.
If the parent has died recently, you can also ask if there are any practical...

How can you tell whether or not you're a good man, woman, boy, or girl?
In who's eyes?
More often than not, we valuate ourselves simply through the eyes of others. Look at childhood for example. Being a 'good girl' or 'good boy' is related to what our parents expect from us. This can be totally different for each family. In families where abuse takes place, it takes a lot more to be 'a good girl or good boy' than in a warm, loving and supporting family. ...

My tattoos and piercings have nothing to do with making a statement. I have them for very personal reasons, and none of those reasons have something to do with the outside world.

Why do some people think vegetables taste nasty? When in fact they they don't.
A few reasons:
- Everyone has a different taste. Though I was a horrible eater in my youth, I have learned to eat a lot, but there are still things I simply do not like. They are just not my taste.
- Upbringing. Some people have just never learned to eat vegetables, or they had a parent who didn't know how to prepare them. My mother for instance always cooked veggies to the point of them...

I think marijuana should be legalised anyway. I find it ridiculous that even here, in the Netherlands, it still isn't officially legal. You can buy alcohol everywhere, which is a lot more unhealthy and causes much more trouble, but you still can't buy a bit of grass.... It's absurd. We had all about given him up, but he managed to fight through it and make a miraculous come-back. Even our vet shed some tears when he was doing better again. Now, almost a year later, he is like nothing ever happened to him, he has his big mouth again, is...

Well I do believe that there are unidentified flying objects.. I also do believe that we are not alone in the universe.. But it is interesting, what did you see?

As far as I know, there is no medical treatment, and imho it is important to really understand what they are, to start with. Do you think it's really healthy to teach children to think they are the best at everything and always deserve to have the best?
No.
It's not realistic to teach children that they are the best in everything. It gives them a fake view at the world and at themselves. It might make them very insecure, or narcissistic, or give them a false sense of being secure, and may give a lot of trouble in life. I know a few such people and it either made them selfish and unpleasant in their relationships with other people, or in doubt...

Cats basically just do whatever they want. They have a pretty strong will of their own. Which is part of the charm of a cat. :)
You can't force her to sleep where yóu want her to sleep. Seems to me that your cat wants to be near you when you sleep, for the coziness of it, and maybe for the feeling of safety. After all, this is all very new for her too and probably a bit scary.

Not wish, no, as I love and enjoy my life.
But I do think that my parents should never have had me in the first place. If my mother would have had an abortion from me, that would have been a seriously good decision. The circumstances under which I was conceived were horrible, and my mother was not emotionally capable of raising a child. My father left before my birth, after leaving my siblings...

I don't use facebook, but most people I know do. They told me something about Facial Recognition. Which sounds pretty bizar to me.

I have been stalked, for a few months, long time ago.
The guy (not an ex of mine) was psychotic and I was the focus of his obsession. Though he never literally threated me in a physical way, it was not an enjoyable experience, to say the least. It ended because he was hospitalised in a mental institution and I was extremely happy that he was off the streets, and out of my life. Still gives me...

There is a fine line there that is not always easy to determine.
If a woman (or man, as men can be raped too) is clearly willing to have sex, drunk or not, then it is not rape.
If she clearly says no, in whatever stage of being drunk, it obviously is rape.
If she is unconscious, or on the verge of being unconscious, and thus not able anymore to protest, then it very well could be rape.

I do see no reason whatsoever to find a vegetarian 'stupid'. Someone who decides to not eat meat does not harm anyone. Why should they always defend themselves?

If a woman gets raped, will she still be held accountable for adultery/fornicating?
Luckily not in the culture I come from. Unfortunately in some parts of the world she will be. Women still get killed because they were raped.
But what does happen still a lot here is that many people actually dó point to the woman to blame her one way or an other. It shocks me if I see how many people still feel that the woman is guilty, and thus in other words deserves to be raped,...

Is it fair to accuse a person of being arrogant just because he or she does not believe in God? If so, why?
No, I don't see why I would be arrogant for being an atheist, or why someone would be arrogant for believing something I don't believe in.
Arrogance comes in when you think your truth is the absolute truth and that people who do not agree with you are stupid.

Black Sabbath is legendary, as is Deep Purple, but also Motorhead. Some favorite 'heavy' bands I like to listen to are Slayer, Pantera, Deftones, Ministry, NiN, Fantomas, Melvins. Other than that I like good Stoner, like QOTSA, Kyuss and Monster Magnet.

Why is it acceptable for men to go topless but considered tacky if a woman does?
In the Netherlands and big parts of Europe it is an accepted thing if women go topless on the beach. It is totally normal. So women do as they feel comfortable, some go topless, others don't. I used to always go topless on the beach, and simply noticed that as soon as it is considered to be normal, people don't stare or give you weird looks. Also, women do not get abused more if being topless...

I don't ridicule people for their religion. I also do not think that religious people 'are stupid for believing'. Your religion (or lack of it) says nothing about your IQ.

"Theos" is a greek word, and it means "God".
"Atheism" comes from "Atheos", which means "Without God".
