Answer to:
How old do you think you should be to have a baby?
I base my perspective off of basic generalizations about brain development. Men reach full brain maturity in their late teens and early twenties, so I would at least wait until then if you are a male. Females reach full maturity towards the end of their teenage years. I would "like" people to wait until then, so that better less impulsive decisions are made, and hopefully it would be...

I was in a similar situation, and was told I could either abandon the property to force them to take over payments, or take them to court for back pay. I of course wanted neither, I just wanted her to leave.
The first thing I tried was to "trick" her, because she didn't know anything about the laws, telling I would get management to evict unless she paid me back rent and...
Answer to:
Do references matter? Do employers even check them anymore?
I recenlty applied for a job with a school district and all of my references were checked. However, as someone who also has done hiring in the past I can say there's a certain amount of "why call" attitude, especially when you know the reviews are almost always glowing, even for workers that are probably not worth your time anyways.

Why do we care more about the color of ones skin than the quality of their character.
We don't, what we care about is the thickness of somebody's bankroll more than someones' character. To us, that pretty much IS character. Many people with "colored skin" as you pretty much put it just happen to be poor, and so it certainly seems that way at times. Well, it's a possibility anyways.

Do you think if men placed SEX at the BOTTOM of their list of importance in a relationship and a woman's need for TOUCH and COMMUNICATION at the TOP of their list, relationships. . . and marriage. . . .would fare BETTER as a whole?
No, that would ruin relationships as we know it. A genuine relationship has both partners making requests and compromising where necessary, not one partner placing his partners needs at the top of their list and ignoring their own. That's not love, that's domination.

Of course not, don't be silly.
The veracity of the first part depends on what he means. If "goodness" has objectivity, I think he is wrong. I think without religion what we call "good" would be redefined, so that in that society it would not be called good anymore (to an extent), and I think fewer people would be doing it. However, I think they would have practices...

I'd wouldn't date me right now because I'd probably never commit, I'm not in the "mood" for babies, I'm too focused on my career, I don't take relationships seriously, and I'm still hurting over my last relationship, which has made me a bit bitter. There's so many more fish in the sea, why would...

Seems guys do this as well. Thanks for introducing me to the muffin theory, lol, perfect fit for what you are talking about. : ) I included the muffin theory from a random internet site, so others can answer your question better.
Muffin Theory:
Let’s begin. Almost all of us, at one point in our lives, have eaten a muffin. We either buy one, or receive it, or make them ourselves....

Wow, a random google search brought up the figure of $20,000 dollars for the average wedding? Can that be right? I think we spent about ten thousand on the wedding, but we had a shoe string budget. Whatever the answer, I do know that the real answer is: Too Much. That's a fact. My ex-wife and I had an outdoor wedding because it was much cheaper than having it indoors, it avoided adding on...

If not all, I think they should at least write their own major speeches. How can I be sure that I am learning something about them through their speeches and not something about someone else I'm not electing? I really think if not they should at least credit the author at the end of the speech if they really cannot find the time.

No, because the "innocence" of childhood in my opinion is a combination of naievete and no real power to speak of so you can't really hurt anybody seriously. You grow up, you gain some power and lose your naievete, that's life.

Do you think there should be death penalty for capital crimes if it is beyond a doubt guilty like video and voice evidence? And if so should they allowed to apeal? Politicians cry about cost why use firing squad instead of some fancy drug its cheaper?
In that circumstance, I'd like to see NO appeals. The appeals process really drives up the cost of our use of the death penalty. But I'd like to find a way to put them to work to support their existence, if it could be done. I'm generally against the death penalty if you can't tell. If I was in favor of the death penalty though, I'd probably support all of your changes.

Yes, as long as it's not the same elevator as I use everday or the same one I farted in last time. It makes me feel extremely uncomfortable, I don't like it. At the same time I think it makes them look ridiculous, and makes me want to laugh a little. During the presidential race, I couldn't even sit in front of the TV with Sarah Palin winking at me all the time, I had to leave the room, seemed so contrived and artificial.

For me, it depends. As long as it's just sex with a female I don't even care about that. My girlfriend can do that if she wants.....but if it's romantic though and she's planning on leaving me for the girl, I'd say it's at least "as bad" as being cheated on with a guy. Is it OK for a girl to beat up her boyfriend in public?
It depends on who you ask. The laws say no, in most cases the citizens say yes. In order for laws to work, they would have to be enforced by the police, and have someone who's willing to call them when it happens. In alot of cases, it's never going to happen. Ask the citizens, many would say yes, ask the laws, they'd say no, and so would I.

I have been an athiest and sometimes lean towards athiesm, so I guess I count. I honestly wish certain people in the Church would spend less time working on converting others and more time spent working on themselves. So, this is my suggestion:
I would like Christians to read anything by the Christian philosopher Dallas Willard, though I imagine "some" of them already do. His...

Yeah, haven't you ever spent time around them? Part of the reason we speak fewer words is because when we do say something it's always, can you repeat that? So we've just said four words while they have to repeat the whole topic all over again! But seriously, I do think it is true, though I know nothing about the word count.

Maybe they just get upset when you in particular are looking for some reason! (joking)
I don't know, I've noticed this occasionally as well, sometimes women like it when I look and will do a little subtle dance, sometimes not. I can say I generally don't mind it much, because it's a quick way to tell if they'd be interested or not. It's a time saver.

In our society it is clearly not okay for a man to hit a woman, but is it okay for a woman to hit a man?
Yes its wrong ethically and legally, but why does that matter? It doesn't matter to a certain extent what ethics or laws say if cops and citizens constantly look the other way when it happens, which is what in fact does happen when this kind of stuff occurs. I think people must "secretly" think it's okay to a certain extent, or at least less wrong somehow, or they...

True or False, Most guys want to get into a girls pants, but when they get married they want their wife to have been a virgin?
I won't make a blanket true or false statement, because given the fact that I've known way less than 1% of the men on this planet, my statement on the matter wouldn't be meaningful and far from scientific. I can say I want in a "woman's" pants so true for me on that, but personally I'd prefer a woman with some experience first.

The best place to pick up a girl is to do so over a softer area such as the grass in case you drop her, and pick her up by using your leg muscles rather than your back, as there might be a high potential for injury. You could make the argument that our expectations of young people are unrealistic these days. Our ancestors who were living until they were forty didn't wait this long for families or sex! Would you have a problem going to a doctor that you knew was cheating on his spouse and yet he claimed to be a "christian" and had christian music playing in his doctors office? (he got caught in the act by his wife!! LOL)
Well, it's not like he's a preacher. A preacher gets paid in the "best" of circumstances to not only teach about the Bible but to teach how to live up to it's ideals. He's just some guy, if he's a good doctor, I wouldn't care. I wouldn't boycott an athiest who got "caught" believing in God either...

No, I generally look the same as the last time, lol. JK.
I do sometimes experience a little "surprise" at what I look like since I so rarely bother to look at the mirror. Sometimes it's along time between glances, even when I look I forget to take the "whole" picture in, rather than just looking to see if something is stuck in between my teeth or whatever, but I...

How do you define someone who would be labeled a 'Tool?'
When I've heard it used, it's usually said of somebody who is a tool in the sense that they allow themselves to be used a means to an end. Someone who blindly does everything their boss asks without disagreement or objections about the use of their personal time might be a tool.
Another way I've heard it used is when somebody conforms to everything without forming an...

Would you say lawyers are heartless? Should they do more to stop the infringment of our rights? CAN they do more?
I wouldn't say lawyers are heartless, that hasn't been my experience with them. When I was in college we had student lawyers, and I remember I came in their with a wonderful ethical argument about how I was wronged, to see if they could do anything about it. I figured that since "ethics" aren't "laws" it would fall on deaf ears.

When I was in high school I wrote to my senator to tell him what I thought we should do about Muslim extremists using a non-violent long term approach, rather than Bush's approach. The coolest thing that happened was that I got very flattering reply discussing my views in detail. I was actually just happy that I got a response.

Do you think that the U.S will ever have a woman president? And if you think so why?
It's inevitable. With soooo many men and women from all classes supporting equality, it really represents the almost the whole of the population. With that kind of voting and financial power it's not so much a question of when but who will it be?
Besides that, with so many groups targeting white men as a symbol of power, it is just inevitable that the ones they are talking about...

Depends on how it gets said. If it was said like a "put down", then yes, as it was intended to. But in that case I wouldn't be feeling insecure about my size but about the relationship. If it came up in a discussion about how I'm a better lover anyway, than probably not.

Kind of, what it can buy you is "options". Someone with money is more likely to find a larger number of people attracted to them. Because of that, you increase your chances of finding a match. Money doesn't buy you love but I think it increases the likelihood that you will find it!
Answer to:
Why have I gotten tired of Asking Questions?
I have too, partly because most of the best questions are already asked, so I spend alot of time answering the older questions, though I don't get alot of points for doing it. Sometimes when I think I have an original question it's just "original phrasing" and I find out later the question already kind of exists, it just wasn't picked up on by the search engine! But if...
Answer to:
Does it give you satisfaction to have the top answer?
Kind of, when I'm surprised that an opinion I have is shared by a majority of other people, or the idea that others found it helpful, it can make me feel good. But because how fast you answer the question and the popularity of answer rather than the correctness of an answer often determines who ends up at top, I can get equal satisfaction out of coming in dead last when I believe my answer...

I haven't seen all of his movies, although I plan to get to them, but The Thing is one of may all time favorite movies in the horror genre from any director. Not my favorite scene, because the scene I had in mind included too many spoilers, I included a pretty famous one, the blood test scene.

Why is it that it seems people are afraid to answer questions that have to do with men wearing polish, panties or who shave their legs?
There is a very small window of time when the question is displayed and most who see it probably don't do that, therefore no response. I would fall into this category.
Possibly apart from that there is also a certain number of people on here who don't always say what they think on controversial questions that would reflect negatively on themselves, at least in societies eyes,...

Which statement lacks humility? "There is no god and we're not sure where everything came from." or "There is a god whom I talk to regularly. He cares for me and is very concerned with what goes on in my bedroom."
Humility: the defining characteristic of an unpretentious and modest person, someone who does not think that he or she is better or more important than others.
In my personal opinion, neither per se implies that either one is better than the other, and both can be carried out in the right person with the utmost in humility.
The first statement implies knowing something (there is no god)...

An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind? Some of the flaws in the philosophy include, as in the above saying, that we are all guilty of something, and we would all be deserving of losing an eye on some level. That's counter productive really....

In high school, did people purposely racially segregate themselves?
I don't know if it was on purpose rather than just hanging with whoever you had the most in common with culturally, but to a certain extent yes. It seemed more pronounced among those who were first generation immigrants rather than being born here, but it happened. As an example, though I hung out with a diversity of groups, my main "clique" in high school I spent the most time...
Answer to:
What do you think of stereo types?
I think they can be a useful tool. Stereotypes generally come from somewhere, they aren't made up out of thin air, I find them generally useful for detecting patterns. Where I feel they can get you into trouble is when they are clung to too tightly and blind you to the reality of other people or when they are misinterpreted.

Do you look at the hardships you've had/have in your life as something that has made you a better or worse person overall?
I think they filled out my self-identity a little, as in they kind of gave me some insight into what things in my culture I'm now against, but other than that alot of those hardships were devestating physically and emotionally. It's impossible to put acts like that in a positive light, no matter how I spin them.

1. If you could become a girl for a month, and you had to stay as that girl for a month, would you do it?
2. How about if you had to give birth in that month?
Two separate answers please, one for each question.
I would love to be a girl for a month, would really give me some insights into how females work and help me to better understand some of our differences. I could really use that knowledge. So, yes.
I think the insight into women is so valuable to me personally, that I would be willing to give birth in order to gain those insights, so yes again. Sounds great, when do we begin?

If they are intelligent, point them to problems athiests have in ethics. The success of African Americans culminating in the election of Barack Obama, the continuing success of women thanks to feminism, even the existence of life on this planet I would view as something as a miracle in itself.

Is it okay for guys to read twilight?
I read the book because my girlfriend was so into it, no biggie. I had planned to read them all if the first one was any good, but it wasn't so I didn't read anymore. I don't think it's a big deal if you want to read it, and if you actually like the stuff and want to read more, more power to you.

Answer to:
Why would a man want to be with a woman if he calls her ugly?
Because he loves her is one possibility. Does he say this to his friends or to her? If it's to his friends maybe he thinks she has beautiful personality and the ugliness remark is just a way of talking about it before his friends bring it up. I've done this before, to kind of bring it up so the other guys know I love her anyway and so they know not to make a big deal out of it in my...
Answer to:
Why do girls still think they have to be skinny to be attractive?
When the ideal woman was considered to be overweight, men were "attracted" to those kind of women. The explanation we are given is that it was a sign of wealth to carry around extra weight. As science started to claim that exercise and eating in certain way was "healthy", and various diseases and so forth came under control, the picture of the ideal woman changed and was...
Answer to:
Is it a deal breaker if you want to get married but your better half does not want to?
No, of course not. Not everyone believes in the necessity of a legal document in order to commit to a relationship. If the commitment is there, you already have what constitutes a marriage anyway, a legal paper can be disposed of same as a commitment to a relationship. Only difference is when you dispose of the document the relationship may remain whereas if you dispose of the commitment to the...

Do you like M. Night Shyamalan's movies?
My three favorite are sixth sense, unbreakable, and the happening. Signs was okay, the village was terrible, and I didn't see lady in the water. Overall I'd say I look forward to his movies though, he's pretty orginal, better than the alternative fanfare *sometimes*!
Answer to:
Based on the fact that they are NOT screening it for critics, and the studio has pulled him from his promotional tour, do you suspect that M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening" is gonna suck?
I actually felt that he redeemed himself somewhat with this movie, I enjoyed it very much.

I'm Catholic and my boyfriend is Mormon. We've talked about getting married. It's never bothered him that I'm Catholic, and no one in my family cares that he's Mormon, but his family has major issues with me not being Mormon. Is it possible?
I had this problem with a fiance of mine when I was younger, she was Mormon and I wasn't. Her family made a big deal out of it, didn't matter to me or her that I wasn't a mormon. However, her family ended up pretty much "excommunicating" her from the family for getting engaged to a non-Mormon. After awhile, the pressure got to her and it was either I become Mormon or we...

How do you feel about women who wear too much make-up?
Yeah, an' I like my women just a little on the trashy side,
When they wear their clothes too tight and their hair is dyed.
Too much lipstick an' er too much rouge,
Gets me excited, leaves me feeling confused.
An' I like my women just a little on the trashy side.

I am fairly new here so can someone tell me? It is ok to post serious type questions on here (and actually get help) or would everyone just prefer the fun ones. I have seen some serious ones with really rude answers so I just wonder
It seems like people in general really do prefer the fun ones, but in order to avoid the rude answer on the serious ones my impression is that you have to make sure you have perfect spelling, even if you are from another country, or you will be treated very poorly, and make sure you don't ask a question that for most people the answer would merely require common sense to answer.

I'd say move away from the factory model of education, attempt to add wisdom rather than just knowledge the goal of our educational programs, and if some people are planning to get PHD's to use merely as a weapon, don't admit them into our PHD programs.

For the women who actually do that, this is some of what it does for them:

Yes, *almost* every relationship maybe if both parties work hard enough. I know these women may have emotional problems that I would have to put up with, but I would have emotional problems if I got stuck with any other "normal" average girl off the street who wouldn't put out after marriage anyways. It's a tough call given the women I have to choose from, I'm still weighing...

Will girls be attracted to a guy that is heavily into philosophy? Cuz I'm in high school and all I get is ridicule and laughter.. they think it's laughable
People who like to think deeply about "how to live" are not losers, some of them end up being the salt of the earth. It seems likely to me that the women who are laughing at you probably have relatively few insights into how life works, and trust me on this, they aren't women you'd really want anyway. Think deeply, become the person you want to be, and learn how to teach...

What would you call a porn site
Any website that has to do with "love porn", i.e. the movie Titanic, the Twilight series of books, etc. Any female should be able to tell what sites they are....usually it's just unrealistic fictionalized portrayals of romance and men that help to keep women happy in imagination but miserable in real life. That's my definition of the harmful kind of porn.

How long would you wait to go back to your cheating ex?
I think people can change, but putting a "how-long" on it is nearly impossible to do. It depends on how fast the person is maturing, I suppose. If it were important to me I would go back when I thought he/she had changed and I had healed enough and felt prepared to face a similar possibility again, worse case scenario. Most likely though, I would never go back to her.

I did get a chance to talk to one individual who was hearing voices at a hospital. Yes, he did hear the voices of people he knew, he was even so sure that it was their "actual" voices he felt it might be telepathy, since their mouths were not moving, but he could hear THEM. He did not report hearing voices in different accents, so that I do not know.

Friendship implies a certain amount of understanding and empathy you don't have with strangers. You give a stranger the bird and you risk getting into a fight, you do the same to your friend, who "knows what you mean", you might get a smile. It's just not a good idea to be rude to strangers, unless you are looking to start something. Even if you are truly rude to a friend...

I did that, we met up, talked about getting back together, but then she stole $700 dollars from me and took off which kind of ended that. Complete straight arrow too, never been in trouble with the law, leader of the Mormon Choir, etc. Gotta love women.

I am a Californian man. My whole life I am surrounded by women who seem to have no interest in a long term relationship or commitment. Where in the world should I go or what religion should I become to find a good woman?
May I suggest Neptune possibly?? The best woman you'll find in your area, (yes, I live in your "area") will be found in the blow-up doll section at the adult store. Sorry buddy, you're screwed. If you find out where they are at, let me know.

I liked a girl when I was in the ninth grade who was in the seventh grade. She had a huge crush on me too, had pictures of me hanging on her wall, lol. Dumbest thing I ever did because of fear of what others would say is not ask her out....don't worry about it, do what will make you happy. I always regretted that after she wasn't around anymore. I dated my imaginary friend for three years. Now she won't speak to me because I started to have imaginary threesomes. Yes, you are probably pregnant, and don't make the mistake I made, or you might just lose your imaginary friend forever. : (

Is the obvious flaw with "Democracy" is that the majority could be wrong?
I think the flaw is fine. When the majority is wrong, as in the majority of citizens wanting to go to war with Iraq a few years back, it also means the majority of citizens have to take responsibility for that wrong decision. To contrast, in a Monarchy, when the king is wrong, he might get beheaded! I think this is a step forward, to spread the responsibility AND the blame.

Because the laws, rules, regulations, etc. in a society are often designed solely so that people who have money either make more or at least get to keep it. Smart is often irrelevant, as in, "It takes money to make money!"

If I did believe in that perspective, I would believe in a paradox I think, one but three. Did anybody else see DEAD SILENCE? What did you think of it?
I did see it, and though not many people liked it, I enjoyed it alot. It wasn't scary, but it was an enjoyable ghost story movie. Not enough scary ventriloquist dummy movies in my opinion.
Answer to:
Can you recommend a book that you absolutely loved, and think everyone should read? I'm looking for fiction, or at least very entertaining books. Please don't suggest the bible- I've already read that.
I haven't read it in awhile but The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway was a very enjoyable book. I also like mystery novels, anything by Elizabeth George.

Is there any culture that is genuine or are they all hijacked from others?
Wouldn't there have to be, at the very least, theoretical culture A, the first culture to ever exist among humans on the planet? Wouldn't that culture be original?

Why do some random stupid questions get so many points, and other thoughtful philosophical questions get little if any points? Do you think there should be different grading regulations?
Man, I've been wondering this ever since I joined AB!! My guess is that many people just want to either meet people or relax after a hard day at work, rather than to tax themselves by answering difficult questions. But really, I have no idea, and I would love to get the real answer to this question.

Answer to:
Should slavery be re-instated?
What made you think that slavery came to an end?
In America, the South used to argue that the North did have slaves, only they were "wage slaves" as opposed to the "type" of slaves they had in the South. The South argued that it wasn't an issue of whether to have slaves, but what type of slaves should we have? In today's world, "wage slaves" might...

Answer to:
As a man I think men who say "Women asked to get raped by wearing slutty outfits." should have their testicles removed by a horse and a rope. My point is you can't blame the victim. Using that logic if a guy in tight jeans gets raped it's his fault.Views?
I don't agree with what THEY are saying at all. That being said, I do understand the logic in this incorrect opinion. Here's how someone who can put it more eloquently has put it:
(from http://www.d.umn.edu/cla/faculty/jhamlin/3925/myths.html)
1) Men are turned on by visual stimuli far more than women are.
2) Women who wear "slutty outfits" (as you put it) are intentionally arousing a...

Exorcisms: are they real or just an act?
I want to say I have no opinion, because I'm agnostic and it seems like an agnostic thing to say, but I pretty much don't believe in it. I did read one book about it, "Glimpses of the Devil" by M. Scott Peck. I liked how he wasn't preachy, and talked about how others in his psychiatric community thought that what he was describing was more like Multiple Personality...

Have you ever lied and told your parents that you were sick, just so they would let you stay home from school?
Yeah, I did, all the time, but she only believed me about half the time. So what I would do when she would say no is save one of her old notes with her signature on it, get to school, forge a new note saying I could go home, and then walk home and watch TV. Not exaggerating, I missed half of ninth grade by writing myself notes to get out of class for various reasons!! (I still passed,...

Ok class now raise your hands!! Do you give out point's?
I do, but every once in awhile I catch myself getting caught up in the fun of answering and forgetting to rate others, even my favorite answers! On some days though, I spend more time rating than answering, and if I see a really good answer that I was basically going to say, I'll rate that answer, move on, and not answer the question as planned. Glad I can finally give three points, makes...

I try not to, strangely I have "ethics" about when it's okay!! I have gone a couple of times by myself.

What does it mean when a girl says she does not feel spiritually connected with you?
I actually had a girl break up with me for that reason before. We were teenagers, she was a Christian, and her friends later said it was because I made her too horny and she didn't want to lose her virginity that young! You never know with women I guess, did you ask her what she meant in her use of the word "spiritual"? I heard a philosopher say recently that it is word that gets...

If you were made president, what would be the first thing you would do/change?
I would fire everybody, set up statues of me across the country, and set up a dictatorship. Then it would finally matter that I were the President because I would actually have some legitimate power! Just joking. I really don't think that as President I'd have enough power to make some of the changes I'd like to, so I would shut my mouth, smile, and do what few inconsequential...

A zero with a chance to redo the assignment on their own. If this is their first offense I don't see any reason to be that hard on them, as I knew students in high school with GPA's at the top of their class who did that a time or two.
