Now when put key in ignition the gauges light up but car does not start, just goes click, click, click and does not turn over. What could be wrong? Alte give the battery a good charge start it up and disconnect the battery if it dies the alternator is at fault the battery starts the car thats all after it is running the alternator provides the engine power when the alternator isnt working the battery gets drained replace the alternator and do the same thing just tio besure but it should be fine

I own a 1993 GMC Sierra, 5.7 liter engine, the "Check Engine Light" recently started coming on and off but when it comes on the engine surges. After the engine has heated up and I try to restart, the engine floods out to the point it will not start why dont you try checking the compression levels of each cylinder when metal heats up it can expand the cylinder which means you have no compression which in turn doesnt mix gas and air efficiently and it will not combust and smell your oil if it reeks of gasoline then your compression is probably shot to hell the compression P.S.I. should be 140 to 180 depending on what your compression ratio...
