VPN is short for Virtual Private Network. VPNs allow remote users to log in to a network, usually that of their company, to use company resources that would normally only be available to users who are physically in the building, on the company network. They typically require a user to log in using a username and password to authenticate.
As of late 2003, there are two major types of VPNs...

Answer to:
What are the basic things to do to protect my computer from hackers?
MOST IMPORTANT: Make sure your software has all the latest patches. Hackers usually take advantage of known software weaknesses, so if you keep up-to-date with your patches, you'll be a much tougher target.
Make sure all unused processes or programs are shut down. Every process or program on your computer that's running, particularly Internet-aware programs, can be access points...

What is a SFTP?
Secure version of the FTP protocol, also written as S/FTP. SFTP uses SSL to encrypt the entire user session, thereby protecting the contents of files and the user's login name and password from network sniffers. Through normal FTP, usernames, passwords and file contents are all transferred in clear text over the wire. If you have a choice, always use SFTP over FTP.
Answer to:

Answer to:
Does it improve my odds to put more coins in a slot machine?
Usually, yes. Always check the payout table on the slot, but most of them have the best odds for max bet amounts, and often the payout is dramatically better for max bets. If you're going to play anyway, you might as well give yourself the best odds.

Answer to:
Do slot machine payouts vary by the cost to play?
Yes. The payout on a nickel slot is likely to be around 85%, whereas a $5 slot may pay out closer to 95% or higher. The reason for this is that each machine has to pay for itself - a casino has to take a lot more nickels from players for them to make anywhere near as much money per machine as they do on a $5 slot. So, go ahead and play the high-dollar slots - they'll payback much...

It is supposed to lure a hacker in while the network administrator tries to learn the attacker's methods, and perhaps even track them down. A behavior-based IDS looks for deviations from normal usage to trigger an...

Answer to:
What are polymorphic viruses?
A virus that, when replicating itself, creates copies that are different from itself, making them harder to detect. Each copy may use a different encryption algorithm, so each will look entirely different from the original and from each other. This property makes it harder for anti-virus software to recognize each strain of the virus, so the odds are higher that some strains will get through.

Why does a curveball curve?
All pitches that have movement (aside from their normal flight towards home plate) take advantage of differences in air pressure on the different sides of the ball. These differences are caused by the rotation of the ball.
For instance, let's say a pitch from a right-hander has rotation from outside to inside, that is, the part of the ball that is toward the third-base line moves...

I want to change my battery. Is there any special way I have to do it, or do I just take the bolts off the negative and positive posts and replace the battery?
As far as I know, nothing has really changed when it comes to batteries. Just take off the lugs, pull the battery, put in the new one, bolt it down somehow so it doesn't shift around, and re-attach the lugs. Just make sure if you take the positive lead off first that it doesn't touch the frame of the car, because it's grounded to the negative pole on the battery.

What's a suggested beginner weight routine?
Beginners, as well as advanced, should stick to the basic exercises. Basic is not meant as -beginner- but as an exercise that uses a lot of muscles. Rest is very important. During the actual weight training the muscle is broken down, it grows/rebuilds while it's resting, usually taking 48-96 hours. So a program should also have "days off". A beginner should also exercise...

What should my heart rate be while I exercise in order to lose fat?
Heart Rate (HR) is the number of times the heart beats per minute. This is usually taken by pressing on the front, left side of the neck, or the inner wrist, and counting the number of beats in a certain time. i.e. If you counted 10 beats, starting at zero, in 10 seconds your HR would be 60 (10*60 sec(1min)/10). When doing an aerobic work out your Max Heart Rate (MHR) needs to be...

That's usually the first place it builds up and it's the last place it will...

Answer to:
I've seen competitive gamers tweak their systems to get 200+ frames per second. Can't the human eye only see 30-60 fps? Why do people do this?
This is important because when you get into a "firefight", that is, when there are a lot of people/objects on the screen, your system will slow down. Because it has to process so much graphical information, your system could chug down to the 30 frames per second range or even lower (below 10!). Because of this, people try to make sure their average frame rate is as high as possible,...

This valve is only used on cars with a turbocharger or supercharger. When you are giving the car heavy throttle, there is a lot of pressure in the intake, and when you lay off the throttle suddenly, that pressure needs to be released. This is what the blow-off valve does.
On some cars this valve is tuned so you can hear it from outside the car. It makes a distinct "whooshing"...
