About me: Older still but living. My mood changes like the wind..

The 4 legged creature in the picture is Heidi - another exasperating female in my household.

Some of what I believe:

I call myself a "liberal" democrat / libertarian sometimes - and other times I label myself as a progressive. As labels go these are as good as any - but they may be misleading if you definitions differ from mine - so anyway, here's what I believe.

Guns: I have no issues with guns, as a gun owner myself and an ex sportsman I don't care anything about guns whatsoever. I'd like to see firearms registered, ( pistols, machine guns, flame throwers, tanks, etc..), but that's about it. You could have one gun or a thousand - I don't care - just so long as you keep them safely locked away from kids and criminals.

Abortion: The dog is a "middle aged man", and as such he will never have an abortion himself - so to me the subject of abortion is moot. I feel the entire subject is a woman's issue and not one that men should be involved with. I also feel that this matter should be left up to each individual state to decide it's own laws regarding abortions. In my "perfect world" Texas could outlaw abortions and Oklahoma could allow them whenever and for wherever reasons...., I'm totally indifferent on the subject.

Religion: I am an atheist. I have no need for "religion" of any kind - yet I could care less whether you have strong religious beliefs or not. The only time I care about such things is when somebody tries to force their religious values upon me or my family, then I become anti-religious in the extreme. And please - don't try to convert me - I could care less about the whole sorry business.

National Defense: I'm for a strong national deference - and that includes Nuclear Weapons and a few offshore military bases. What I have an issue with sometimes is too much National Offense, we have too many unnecessary wars for dubious reasons, ( the Iraq war is one such conflict as was the Vietnam conflict ). We need to be strong - but not pushy, and our military should be used to protect American lives and not to force American policy down unwilling peoples throats.

Nuclear Power: I have no problem with it if we can do it safely and cleanly - and the same goes for all types of electrical generation capabilities, if it's safe and clean and has little impact on the environment then I'm for it.

Censorship & Government restrictions: The government whether it is local, state, or federal has no right whatsoever to Censor or restrict the free passage of information except for criminal reasons, ( IE: Child pornography, drugs, or other criminal activity ). It is not the governments job to restrict the free flow of information to free people.

Free Trade: There is no such thing as "free trade", only "bad trade". Most nations of the world are not equal to us economically. You can have "free trade" with Canada for example - but not Mexico or China. For trade with these nations you need smartly managed trade - such as tariffs and quotas.

Taxes: Taxes should be based on income and flatly applied with few if any loopholes. The very poor would pay no taxes, those in the middle up to the very highest earner would pay taxes based on their income - with the wealthiest few paying a greater share of the tax burden - but not excessively so>

Education: The federal government should set up national standards so all students everywhere in the country have a uniform level of education. And the standards should be much higher then they are now.

War: Huh! What is a good war? Nothing I've seen in my 50 years qualifies as "a good war", certainly none of the crap that my homeland has been involved with.

Obama: A good man.....but I've seen good men come and go before and things still sucked after they got through with them. This nation isn't a dictatorship, ( yet,), and one man or woman no matter how well intended can perform miracles while in the oval office. His detractors want him to fail - and they may get their way - yet they can offer no better than him in his stead.....indeed, their best rival our dregs for last place......but that argument is for the pages of Answerbag and not here.

North Korea: If you want a war why not "liberate" these poor blighters eh?

Iran: Good grief I'm sick about hearing about bloody Iran and Nuclear weapons......Iran NEEDS nukes to counter Israel......just like Russia needs their nukes to counter the US...it's called "the balance of power" you know.... I have zero love for the government of Iran - the whole lot of them need to be shot ....but these idiots are right in wanting to protect their people and resources with a strong defense. Let Israel disarm their nuclear stockpile and I'll be the first to demand that Iran stop their Nuclear program.

Israel: I like the people there, however I hate what their government does sometimes - especially in regards to the Palestinians...but hay - it's like what we did to the American Indians isn't it? And it's sort of like what the Nazi's did to the European Jews am I right...it's called genocide isn't it?

Homosexuals: Whee! I don't give two hoots in heck about homosexuals....they don't bother me and I don't care to bother them...what they do for amusement - so long as it's only between consenting adults is their problem and not mine....enjoy yourselves kids!

[Waitress:] "You wanna cup of coffee?"

[Customers:] "Heh, Turn that fucking juke box down.

[Waitress:] "I'm sorry, would you like a cup of coffee?
Ok, you take cream and sugar? Sure."

In truck stops and hamburger joints
In Cadillac limousines
In the company of has-beens
And bent-backs
And sleeping forms on pavement steps
In libraries and railway stations
In books and banks
In the pages of history
In suicidal cavalry attacks
I recognize...
Myself in every stranger's eyes

And in wheelchairs by monuments
Under tube trains and commuter accidents
In council care and county courts
At Easter fairs and sea-side resorts
In drawing rooms and city morgues
In award winning photographs
Of life rafts on the China seas
In transit camps, under arc lamps
On unloading ramps
In faces blurred by rubber stamps
I recognize...
Myself in every stranger's eyes

And now, from where I stand
Upon this hill
I plundered from the pool
I look around
I search the skies
I shade my eyes
So nearly blind
And I see signs of half remembered days
I hear bells that chime in strange familiar ways
I recognize...
The hope you kindle in your eyes

It's oh so easy now
As we lie here in the dark
Nothing interferes, it's obvious
How to beat the tears
That threaten to snuff out
The spark of our love.

Every strangers eyes - Roger Waters.

Button your lip. And don't let the shield slip.
Take a fresh grip on your bullet proof mask.
And if they try to break down your disguise with their questions
You can hide, hide, hide,
Behind paranoid eyes.

You put on our brave face and slip over the road for a jar.
Fixing your grin as you casually lean on the bar,
Laughing too loud at the rest of the world
With the boys in the crowd
You can hide, hide, hide,
Behind petrified eyes.

You believed in their stories of fame, fortune and glory.
Now you're lost in a haze of alcohol soft middle age
The pie in the sky turned out to be miles too high.
And you hide, hide, hide,
Behind brown and mild eyes.

Behind Paranoid Eyes Pink Floyd.
