Space, in paintings, was much different in the 15th century with the use of one point perspective. Picasso modernized space, big time, with his cubist approach to no point perspective. Now we use a multiple approaches to views, depending on what style of work you want to create.

Yes, I think so. Munch used oil paint, tempera paint, and pastels on cardboard in his painting called "The Scream". Usually you can use oil over any kind of paint, but not other paint over oil. That is what I've learned from fine art artists.
