Having watched a friend of the family suffer and die from emphysema, I say you kids out there never can start smoking too early!!! The friend had this awful cough and we expected a slab of his lung to come flying out. If you're younger, you could cough that piece of lung out a greater distance, perhaps even in an arc! It could become an Olympic sport.
So smoke 'em if you have...

It is possible. The virus that causes them is tricky because it can hover in the body without necessarily creating visible warts.
There's no way to guarantee that that's what happened with your husband. It is possible to infect someone with the virus even without visible warts so I would get yourself tested ASAP. The likelihood of infection is greater when there are visible...

One thing that I've heard has pretty remarkable results is Dean Ornish's diet plan. The thing that makes it tricky is that it requires some pretty hardcore changes. Because of that, it may not be realistic for all people. But if you can cope with it, it can do some pretty remarkable things.

I need advice and reassurance. My girlfriend's mother was recently hospitalized and told my girlfriend that she believes she will die this week. She's very worried, I don't know what to do and I feel totally helpless.
You feel helpless because you can't directly help your g/f's mother and fix the situation. That's terribly normal. It's then a matter of how you help your g/f through this difficult time.
Be there for her. Listen to her and let her know you understand her pain and fear. Don't try to fix things because you can't. Just listen.

THC is fat-soluble. That means it gets comfy in your body's fat. The issue for whether you test positive is how long before the test you used it and how frequently you used it before then. Do you think it's better to run away from a feeling or to fall into it so that you can better understand it?
I'd suggest that you start by feeling what you feel naturally. There are no "shoulds" about keeping things at arm's-length.
You didn't specify what the emotion is but there are, of course, times you have to be cautious. For example, it's great to feel euphoric if you fall in love but it's also understandable that you might be a bit protective of yourself...

Im a horrible speller, do you have any advice how to get better at it?
Hastic's tip is a good one. I'd also encourage you to read anything that you know is a reliable source of correct spelling. Text messaging and e-mail haven't made mastering spelling any easier so those are definitely not options! You have a better chance with most magazines and books. Try news web sites as well -- you'll become informed and learn how words are spelled on...

Does the drug "Alli" really work?
It helps but the person's habits still have to change for it to work.
The drug clamps on to fat taken in by food and prevents its calories from being absorbed into the body. The fat then comes out (get ready for it) with your feces.
If you eat a large pizza, you're still taking in a ton of calories and Alli won't do much for you. It will still siphon off some of the fat...

How are members of the U.S. Supreme court choosen, what is the process?
"Power to nominate the Justices is vested in the President of the United States, and appointments are made with the advice and consent of the Senate." (In other words, they have to be confirmed by the Senate.)
By the way -- I'm assuming your question refers to the Supreme Court of the United States. Individual states have supreme courts as do other countries.

Hey I am pregnant and I wanna cut my hair but people have told me I should wait until after I have the baby, can cutting your hair while your pregnant make it dry or crazy?
My understanding is that some people might say to hold off on cutting your hair because the shape of your face might change during pregnancy as you carry some extra weight.
People might also say that because of some chemicals used in treating hair (dyes and the like) that might be risky for an unborn kid.
I seem to remember my sisters finding that their hair was thicker during pregnancy...

If it happens at the right (or wrong, depending on your perspective) time, it only takes one time. I'm defining "sex" here as vaginal penetration of a man's penis.

If you go by the letter of the rules, it was not appropriate to read them without your grandfather signing a release form to allow it to happen. The exception to that would be if your mother had power of attorney or some other legal status that would permit her to look at the chart.
It might seem like her being the patient's daughter should suffice but legally, it doesn't.

How do you help and comfort someone who's little brother is dying? (his little brother is 10)
Think about asking how you can help. He might need to talk but if he does, try to avoid saying things like "He's going to a better place." Just listen to him and try to reflect that you understand how he feels. There may be more practical things you can do -- I don't know the situation but if he needs help with something because he's at the hospital with his brother,...

Common Sense, you're way off base on electric cars. I'd poke holes in your statements but you probably won't take it from me. Go rent or buy "Who Killed the Electric Car." As for government regulation about these things: car manufacturers didn't start putting seatbelts or air bags in cars because they thought a lot of their customers. They did it because they...

Why does the hair on your body all grow to certain lengths and then stop. In other words, the hair on my head keeps growing and growing but the hair on my arm stops after about 1/4 inch and so on). Why?
This isn't my info but you got me curious so I looked it up:
Each hair on your body grows from its own individual hair follicle. Inside the follicle, new hair cells form at the root of the hair shaft. As the cells form, they push older cells out of the follicle. As they are pushed out, the cells die and become the hair we see.
A follicle will produce new cells for a certain period of...

Let me give you one highlight: in 2002, the federal government allowed a maximum tax deduction for an electric vehicle ("EV") of $4,000. In 2003, the maximum deduction for a vehicle weighing 6,000 pounds or over (SUVs, etc.). was $100,000.
After Jimmy Carter kicked energy policy changes into gear after the OPEC embargo of the 1970s, standards for fuel economy were put in place....

What you're describing isn't traditionally a symptom of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (aka "GAD"). Short answer: alcohol.
Longer answer: for better or worse, marijuana is illegal so obtaining it, selling it, etc., can lead to legal problems. Those may take a toll on people.

Very good question -- most epidemiologists say it came to existence sometime in the 20th century and may have originated in sub-Saharan Africa. While most people heard of it first in the 1980s, I have read of cases going back to the 1960s that some think may have been related to HIV. For that reason, it's difficult to say with any degree of certainty who was the first person to have it....

"Habit" is a tricky word because sometimes habits happen via voluntary behavior and other times there's some biology driving them. Then you enjoy life less, etc., etc. I think most people would agree that...

If the only part of social interactions that is bothering someone is some sort of anxiety about their smile, then I probably wouldn't say it is much more than only that. If there was a broader discomfort related to being in social situations and part of it pertained to smiling, then there might be a more substantive social anxiety.

In psychology, how are delusions classified as either "bizarre" or "non-bizarre"?
The word "bizarre" generally isn't used if a mental health professional is assessing someone's delusions. You can diagnose specific kinds of delusions, such as being persecuted. If a client/patient refers to them as "bizarre," then you could use the word in quotes. Otherwise, the term is seen as being too judgmental for clinical assessments.

No, it's not just you. Layering anxiety on top of not knowing something makes it harder to focus. That doesn't always lend itself to learning because your body perceives a threat and is telling you to react to it. But if you control your breathing and coach yourself a...

One of my favorite quotes comes from Dan Rather and I think it applies to this question.

I'm not suggesting that's a good thing, mind you. This country's relationship with fossil fuels frosts my panties more than almost anything.

The insurgencies in El Salvador and Guatemala were crushed through the slaughter of tens of thousands of civilians. In El Salvador, about 70,000 died including massacres of whole villages, such as the slaughter carried out by a U.S.-trained...

Have you been tested in a medical setting to confirm your pregnancy? It may sound silly of me to ask but sometimes people go only by home pregnancy tests and those should be followed up with a more formal test to confirm the results.

I was hit in the eye with a street hockey ball when I was a kid but never by an ice hockey puck. Anyone who has held an ice hockey puck knows how hard those things are -- that would seriously hurt on a wrist.
So how's the wrist doing?

How do I delete songs off an iPod?
I have an older iPod. I can tell you how you do it with one of those on the chance that it's the same procedure for a newer one (in case that's what you have).
You have to patch it into your computer. Then you open iTunes and if everything is working as it should, your computer will recognize the iPod.
From there it's just a matter of finding the track(s) you want to...

If a white man punches a black guy it's a "hate crime." If the white guy pays another black guy to hit the black guy he doesn't like, does it lose the stigma of "hate crime"?
There's an issue of intent that would guide the answer to this question.
"If a white guy punches a black it's a 'hate crime'" if he was punched because he's black.
If the defintion of a "hate crime" includes ANY crime carried out because of race, etc., then the second scencario would constitute a hate crime because it's a crime to hire...

The thing you have to be careful of in assailing video games in relationship to obesity is that while games do involve sitting for long periods of time, so can reading, knitting, writing, etc., etc.

The part about it going down to the knee makes me wonder if you might have a herniated disk. I believe an x-ray is required to confirm this sort of a diagnosis.

I'm not pro- or anti-marijuana.
However, the "gateway drug" theory shouldn't be thrown around anymore. Think about it: the argument is that if you use marijuana, you'll likely go to harder drugs. Couldn't you just as easily say that alcohol or tobacco are gateway drugs? There are those who smoke cigarettes and later do heroin -- if the same logic is...

Talk radio is very low-cost for those who own a station. If you think about the equipment necessary to maintain a talk-only station, it's far less to get set up and maintain than a music station. It also requires much less physical space -- a music station is going to have album/CD libraries and the like.

What is the "first aid" for want of a better term for the acute stage of broken heart?
Try to stick to your day-to-day routines as best you can.
Don't deny how you feel but try to show yourself - in constructive ways - that you're still in control of your life.
Remind yourself that you were a person before your relationship and you'll continue to be one after, albeit with some scars.
I said to try to stick to your routine but cut yourself some slack...

Do you think that television shapes society or simply reflects it?
Both, though if pressed to say one or the other, I'd say that television reflects society. The reason is simple: television's success is dependent on popular approval. Its ususal response is to become more homogenized to appeal to a larger base. That sort of pattern doesn't lend itself to trendsetting.

Was Elvis Presley really the "King" of Rock n' Roll?
I've always thought he was the first talent that was marketable to a large white audience. But I think there were black artists in the day - Chuck Berry, Little Richard - who left a larger imprint on music.
Given the choice of artists in that era, I'd rather listen to people like Eddie Cochran or Bill Haley and the Comets. Elvis did have some fine musicians in his band back then.

I have no knowledge of how to do gymnastics so I can't tell you if this is good advice or not. But you seem so desperate for information that I tracked the following down:
First, you must be able to do a bridge and be comfortable rocking back and forth. After doing this, you should try to rock back and forth enough to the point where you can stand up with both feet on the ground....

Long pause.

For xbox live can you just buy a ethernet cord connect it to your modem and connect it to your xbox and put in your subscription code and be ready to play?
I'm pretty sure the answer to your question is "yes." I bought the card, patched the cord from 360 to my cable modem. Then you enter the information from the card and you're able to access their downloads, live play, etc. There can be other costs if you use their marketplace where you can buy different stuff but I believe what you described at least gets you in the door.

Is it possible for one to get pregnant if you masturbated the night before, took a shower in the morning, and had unprotected sex without ejaculation around 4pm?
Possible, yes. Pre-ejaculatory fluid (aka, "pre-cum") can have sperm in it. It's not thought to have it in sufficient quantities for a chance at pregnancy but - as they say - it only takes one.
By the way -- the only really significant part of your question for a possibility of pregnancy is "unprotected sex." Granted, a lack of ejaculation tinkers with the...

Why wern't most Canadians concerned about foreign investment in 1956?
It was a period of extreme nationalism, anti-American sentiment - fueled in part by disdain for Joe McCarthy and his antics - and a healthy GDP. (The GDP began to decline soon thereafter, though.) The Royal Commission on Canada’s Economic Prospects, chaired by Walter Gordon, released a report that supported this economic protectionism. This report was later attacked as being more of a...

The real source of the scream -- and the origins of the rumor -- were explained by Ohio Player Jimmy "Diamond" Williams:

Choose foods that are rich in unsaturated fats, such as oily fish, avocados and sunflower, rapeseed and olive oils. Unsaturated fats can help to lower cholesterol.
Examples of "oily fish:" salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines, tuna, anchovies, swordfish. Note that the tuna must be fresh to count as an oily fish because the canning process reduces the level of omega-3 oil....

It depends on whom you ask.
A Freudian would say that all the weirdness is symbolic of something, that if you look deeply at what's happening, you'll find what the symbols and their actions represent.
