Answer to:
Why is it necessary to allow concealed weapons? (Wouldn't having it displayed be more effective in warding off potential predators?)
I have no problem with someone carrying a weapon. I do regularly. An armed society is a polite society. Personally, I've never understood the need for concealed carry. The problem is that most who have CC licenses can't wait for an opportunity to show off their weapons or for someone to ask them about it and most of those folks will talk about their weapons for hours if properly encouraged.

Answer to:
Why do some people riot against capitalism and democracy , Do they have a better form of government or a better solution?
I think rioting is an incorrect assessment of what they're trying to achieve. It's actually a protest against unregulated corporatism and corporate personhood. Currently, corporations and big money have a thousandfold more say in what our country does than the people themselves do and the people are justifiably angry. I also don't believe that they're protesting against capitalism or democracy....

Is it wrong to be an athiest?
No, it isn't wrong to be an atheist, but if you fear that you're going to burn in the Christian hell, it sounds like you might lean more toward agnosticism than atheism. Personally, I find it impossible to believe that heaven and an invisible god exist, so it would be completely irrational for me to believe that hell or the devil exist, either. However, when those beliefs turn into laws or governmental legislation which affect everyone regardless of creed OR when a believer insists on foisting their own personal beliefs and/or sense of...

Not me. I abhor televised sports and the players are highly-overpaid. Some of the players do great things in their private lives and in those rare cases, the money could be considered well-spent, but professional football has never saved a life or cured a disease, nor has it added anything of significance to anyone's quality of life. I must admit, there are far too many times when I have no choice in the matter. Too often, the only choice is to vote for the smartest believer or not vote at all and neither of those would be my first choice. I'd much rather vote for an atheist who actually listens to and sides with the majority of their constituents than to be forced to vote for someone who relies on a non-existent god for...

Why do you believe the bible is the word of god?
I believe that the Christian bible is basically an allegorical book of handed-down stories written and re-written by fearful, fallible men whose education and understanding weren't nearly advanced enough to allow them the ability to separate fact from fantasy.

I don't care about religious threats of eternal damnation. At least not the damnation being promised by Earth's many man-made gods, religions, impostors and adherents. That's all they are. Threats. Nothing concrete. Just blind faith in an invisible friend who doesn't deserve really my friendship.

What comes to mind when someone tells you that they do not use any social networking sites?
I'd immediately view that person as possessing an extra bit of intelligence and personal character. For the most part, social-networking sites are just vast nameless voids where the factors determining self-conduct and identity are swapped for less-personal factors rather than accentuating the ones that really matter.

Answer to:
Do u agree with Jimmy Kimmel that social networking sites such as facebook cheapen the definition of friends?
Yes. Absolutely so. Too many people claim friends on a SN site that they wouldn't claim as friends in the real world. They seem to wear and view such friends as more of a status symbol than anything else.

Do you believe in open relationships?
Oddly enough, no, I don't. I think a relationship is about two people and if you want to be with any more than one person, you might as well stay unattached. The emotional, mental and health risks far outweigh any benefits an open relationship could provide. I certainly would never want to be responsible for catching and giving an STD to someone I profess to love.

Absolutely. He supposedly made and drank wine, so I'm sure if he was real enough to enjoy a glass of wine, he'd probably appreciate a good beer as well. Then we'd sit down and have a very in-depth and hopefully intelligent conversation about some of his more reality-challenged followers and the ridiculous crap being done in his name.

Do many naively believe the primary motivation behind the Atheist wanting to do away with RELIGION is TRUTH?
The real reasons one might become an atheist are much simpler than just seeking truth, although everyone should seek truth and truth is certainly one of the very best reasons to become an atheist. Most atheists are unable to commit to any dogma that lacks sufficient and/or tangible proof or that which makes no little or no sense or that which is obviously false or contrived.

A thoroughly religious concept designed to demonize whatever actions and behaviors that particular religion dislikes. The answers to "What defines a crime?" and "Which types of actions and behaviors are not socially acceptable?" are more relevant.

No, homosexuality is natural and occurs in many different species, not just in humans. Sin is a strictly biblical/religious concept which covers anything that religion chooses to demonize.

Obama: "gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends" to Latino voters. The postracial president? The Great Uniter?
As yesterday's election proves, most Americans won't vote in their own best interests. They prefer to vote out of fear. However, it should be very interesting when the Republicans start making excuses for why they haven't fixed all of our nation's problems overnight. However, in the sense of fairness, we progressives will give them the same two weeks that they gave the Dems before we start...

Did Micheal Moore eat himself in disgust last night? due to the massive shift in power in the USA?
No, he's smart enough to see it for what it was, a case of the the blind leading the blind. When will things actually start getting better? Tomorrow? Next week? Next month? Republicans had better hurry up and start improving things before everyone sees them in in the bare light of day. Why haven't they already eradicated unemployment?

Is November 3rd 2010 a day that is a change you can believe in? Are we more free as a result of yesterdays corrective election?
Hardly worth believing in and we won't be free for very much longer with Republicans in the majority. We'll just get poorer and more beholden to greedy Republican corporate masters. However, in the same sense of fairness and bipartisanship that the Republicans used, we'll give the Republicans the same cursory week-and-a-half that they gave the Dems before we start asking them why all of our...

Is it illegal to film the police in the US?
Actual laws vary from state to state. As a photographer, the way I understand it is, that if what you're photographing or filming is visible from the street, a public sidewalk or a public area, anything is fair game, as long as doing so doesn't deprive someone of their reasonable expectation of privacy (e.g.; on private property, a fenced-in area, in a restroom, inside someone's home, etc.),...

Why are there political attack ads? The GOP/Dems won't change who they vote for and Independents are offended by them. Who's the target?
The target is the uneducated or non-thinking voter, which basically covers about half of all voters. Some candidates think that if they continually go off-topic and spread mountains of disinformation and lies about their opponent, the voters won't have time to debunk their lies and therefore notice that they haven't told us anything about their plans to improve the system.

Atheists deny the existence of God. If an Atheist argues that there is no proof of the existence of God, is it fair to require Atheists to prove the non-existence of God to support their position? If not, why?
The burden of proof is on those making the positive claim. Carl Sagan, one of my own personal heroes, said it best, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence," and there's absolutely nothing extraordinary about me saying, "There is not enough tangible evidence for me to believe in a god or gods." To use another favorite adage, "We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity...

Why do atheist try so hard to prove that a God they claim not to believe in does not exist? Why fight against something thats not there? So He must in fact be there,to be fought against!
That's some truly faulty logic you've got there friend. However, in this particular case, atheists are not the ones making an extraordinary claim. One cannot prove a negative. We may not believe in a god or gods, but you apparently do and it is up to those who make the positive claim to prove that their assertions are true. Also, you must understand that only tangible, verifiable proof could...

Religious beliefs and the crime associated with it are the only reasons it's considered immoral. If it was made legal and properly controlled, the criminal aspect would cease to be an issue.

Do Atheists believe in karma?
I believe that we each make our own luck, to some extent, by our actions and choices. I also believe that positives and negatives often travel in packs, so if you bring one negative to the party, you'd better be expecting his friends to show up. If that's karma, then so be it.

It is my belief that the government regularly covers up even the most mundane of information, apparently to protect government secrets (whatever they might be), so little would prevent them from covering up something that has the capacity to shake the foundations of Earth's belief systems. I personally believe that intelligent life has visited Earth in the past and continues to visit us to this...

Are atheists more immoral than theists? Since morality comes from religions?
Once and (hopefully) for all, NO. Morality DOES NOT come from religion, nor did religion invent the concept. Apart from God's saving works, no one can be saved. So how can atheists be saved just by acting charitably?
As an atheist, I'm pretty sure that I don't care about something I don't even believe exists and I don't want to be saved by a god that picks and chooses which acts are more deserving than others. The bigger question is, why do you care so much about what your loving god wants if you already believe that he may not bother saving you at all? I am charitable because i choose to be. It doesn't...

For ABers that smoke, how expensive would a pack of cigarettes have to be before you decide to quit?
I've been rolling my own organic tobacco for years now. It's about half the cost (or less) of what I'd spend on commercial brands. Plus, I really have to want one to go through the trouble of rolling a pack, so it has helped me cut back to less than a pack a day and that reduces my costs even further.

I'd think that if you state somewhere on the tickets that the raffle ticket entitles the purchaser to only one win per event, you're probably covered. However, if a person is allowed to buy more than one raffle ticket and they're actually lucky enough to win more than once, it's certainly no foul on their part.

Answer to:
How come Fox News was the only TV network to carry Obama’s speech on the 20th anniversary of the fall of Berlin Wall? They are "not a news network", right, they carry only lies, right?
Because... as usual... Fox isn't concerned with REAL news, they prefer the made-up stuff that they've relied on for the past half-century. Sorry to break it to you that way, but a twentieth anniversary ISN'T news, it's snooze.
Answer to:
If you don't believe God exists - If He were to grant you any sign you ask, would you at least believe in His existence?
If it ever became possible to see, touch and/or examine irrefutable evidence of a god's existence, then it would certainly be much less than impossible for me to believe in one. However, that doesn't mean that he/she/it would/should be worthy of being worshiped (as the act of worshiping something almost automatically makes that thing an idol) which is something that the Christian god of the...

Why do so many Americans refer to Great Britain as 'England' when there's four countries within Great Britain.
I've never thought of or referred to Great Britain as 'England', and I don't think I know anyone who refers to Great Britain as such. We could just as easily assume that there are a few Brits who don't automatically consider America's internal borders (our autonomous state borders) and that it could be a similar, yet unintentional error.

What is your favorite kind of flower in the USA?
My favorite, the hyacinth, wasn't among your choices. It might be if you were ever able to walk into the middle of an entire field of them though. Ever since that experience, I always plant them by the dozens in spring. To date, it's the most memorable scent of all that I've ever smelled.

Answer to:
If ethics came from God, then "evil" has to exist as the opposite to, or absence of, positive ethics. And so it would be an absolute.
Ethics don't come from a god, they come from eons of human societal and personal interaction. Early beings learned that life was easier if there were more people help gather food, build or find shelter. They also learned that sharing tasks improved their lives much quicker and more efficiently. More people meant a better life for everyone. Thus, killing became unethical. Good or bad, the rest...

Should parents with teen daughters, Who are in school and pregnant, Should the school district force parents to pay higher school taxes?
This question is extremely (and probably religiously) biased. The only logical answer to this poll is NO. In most cases (excluding any obvious mental or physical handicaps) a person's physical condition has absolutely NO bearing on the cost of education. A pregnant teen costs no more to educate than a teen who isn't. I would also hazard a guess that it would be extremely unconstitutional to...

Should cities aim to preserve their historical buildings? If so, why?
New construction requires enormous amounts of energy and resources. That energy and those resources are only going to get more expensive as time passes. In the case of some buildings, it can make a lot more sense to refurbish than to demolish. Refurbishing or restoration of older buildings can help to create a sense of civic pride and identity as well as help retain regional history. However,...

I love The Beatles, but I wouldn't say that they are the 'greatest' band of all time, however, they are probably in the top five with regard to their creativity and influence on the rest of the musical world. No other band in history has sold as many albums. Their longevity speaks for itself.

Sarah Palin is a very beautiful woman. Do you think her physical appearance has a lot to do with her popularity?
I can see NO other reason. It certainly isn't her intelligence. However, attractiveness isn't determined only by what's on the outside, it requires an inner beauty as well and sadly, Blunder Woman is sorely lacking in that department. Sure, she's sort of pretty in a pervy, MILF-ey, soccer-mom kind of way, but when she opens her mouth, you can see there's nothing of any real value inside.

The beatles are:
The Beatles are the greatest, most influential band that ever made music, both aurally and visually. They continually broke new ground and touched nearly every existing musical style. There are few musicians alive today who don't owe at least some of their sound or style to The Beatles, either directly or indirectly.

Will the Democrats also be cleaning house like the Republicans seem to be doing?
It really makes no sense to lump all Democrats under the label 'liberals' and in the same breath, exclude the moderate/liberal Republicans. And, we'd already HAVE change if certain Republicans weren't so busy playing 'obstructionist' to any change the Democrats try to make. Once the Repubs start acting like adults and work WITH the Dems, the change everyone desperately needs will happen on it's...
Answer to:
Corporate whore and candidate (R) Rand Paul says Obama criticizing BP is "unamerican". Do you agree?
No, it sounds like he's just trying to gain the Teabagger vote. If nothing else, BP could use a good kick in the bottom line or maybe an introduction to Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Should the age of consent be raised and/or have "half plus seven rule" to protect young, innocent women from dirty, horny, old men?
Why not go even further than that? Why don't we protect innocent young men from dirty, horny, Cougars and semi-abstinent priests, while we're at it?
Just because you believe sex is dirty and disgusting, doesn't mean that normal people should share your phobias. Oh, and by the way, you should probably be very thankful that your parents obviously didn't share your disgust of sex or you might not...

If a lawyer and your mother-in-law were drowning, would you go to lunch or the movies?
If it was my first mother in law, who was one of Nazi Germany's brown-shirted 'Hitler Youth' (I kid you not - she proudly displays the photos in her home) I'd sell tickets and make a killing.

Atheists - will you be able to answer God, when the time comes?
Why would I waste my time talking to your imaginary friend? It's obvious that you didn't waste any time thinking this one through before actually asking the question. You old time-saver, you.

Geico's ads are so stupid that I've decided to never do business with them even if they were a better deal (they're not). You too?
I currently use Geico for my auto insurance. Level-headed is right about them raising their rates twice a year, but whenever my rate goes up, I shop around for a better one. So far, every time I've checked, Geico's rates WERE better than their competition, often by $50-70 per month AND Geico's includes much more coverage for less than their competitors. Not once in eight years have I had to...

Should people be required to have a license before having children?
I don't think that licensing would be a bad thing as long as some mandatory training and psych courses came along with it, but I don't see how you could EVER enforce it in the real world.
Answer to:
Is the Republican party platform unduly influenced by the most extreme (hence most entertaining hence popular) radio and TV pundits?
I wouldn't call such pundits entertaining. Scary, definitely. Dangerous, obviously. Ridiculous, to the Nth degree. Moronic, most assuredly, but certainly not entertaining.

They COULD reform themselves, but I seriously doubt that they have either the desire or the willpower to do so. I'm betting that they'll implode before they improve.

Why are theaters overcharging for movies?
I quit patronizing movie theaters a long time ago. The reasons? Exorbitant ticket prices, $5 hot dogs, $6 drinks, $7 nachos, people talking loudly on their cell phones in the middle of the movie, wet or sticky floors, inconsiderate morons who feel required to kick the back of my seat. I'd rather buy or rent the DVD and watch it at home. That way, I can smoke if I choose, go to the bathroom...

Should public high schools teach Bible literacy courses?
I can see using a religious text IF that text is directly relevant to that particular course or discussion. If that bible's content was somehow responsible for a certain historical outcome, such as Christianity's effects on the Roman Empire or describing the crusades or that religion's effects upon the social and religious development of earlier civilizations, it would be acceptable, whereas...

best comedian of all time?
You ask us who we think is the best comedian of all time and then you list Andrew Dice Clay, Carrot Top and Gilbert Gottfried? I think you've left out quite a few. If we're really discussing who was the best comedian of all time, I'd have to say it was probably George Carlin.

The right to bear arms was to stop the British in the War of Independence. Should it still be used to justify gun ownership?
The need to protect the self, one's independence or one's livelihood could arise at any point in time. (Think Adolph Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, et al...) If you permit your leaders to take away your guns, you're giving them permission to revoke the rest of your freedoms and civil liberties.

I've been saying that for decades, but it was also one of the smartest things that John McCain ever said. And then his mind started to wander.
Answer to:
Should we teach the Bible in public schools?
As a requisite? No, not unless it would have actual bearing or impact on the particular subject being discussed. Besides, which Bible should we use? The Old Testament? The New Testament? The Tanakh? The Quran? Who would get to pick? Of course... that completely ignores the fact that forcing such a requirement would also be highly unconstitutional.

Answer to:
Would American Idol be better without Simon Cowell?
The entire planet would probably benefit without Simon. Even more so if American Idol itself were canceled. Having been a musician for thirty-plus years, I'm all for promoting new artists and music, but with most American Idol winners and contestants we're not exactly talking about the next child prodigy or the next Ludwig Von Beethoven are we?
Answer to:
Do you think American Idol would survive without Simon Cowell as a judge? Or do you care at all?
American Idol is a swollen, pus-filled canker on the buttocks of American television. Simon Cowell has no talent or foresight and is a blight on any music scene. The world can certainly do without another Clay Aiken or Kelly Clarkson.

Do you think that pharmaceutical companies suppress new drugs?
Pharmaceutical companies are mainly focused on their bottom line and keeping their investors rich and happy. Why would any company willingly provide an actual cure for a disease when manufacturing a line of drugs which treat or mask the symptoms of that disease would provide them a much larger income? That's not to say that some diseases haven't been controlled or eradicated. Polio and Smallpox...

Our antiquated electoral college should be abolished. The inevitable aftermath produced a stagnant two-party nightmare which has unnecessarily divided us. The utter failure of the current electoral system has produced the exact opposite of what it was intended to produce, a united citizenry.

Have you noticed that the banks are sadly lacking in customer service of late?
My bank inadvertently entered a rather large deposit that I had made into another persons account causing massive and multiple insufficient funds fees to be placed on my account to the tune of about $150.00. When I brought it to the bank's attention, they made me come back into the bank and prove that I had actually made such a deposit. I went to the bank, showed them my deposit slip and...
