Can art be considered science? Why?
Art can be used as a medium for exposition and exploration of ideas, consequently it can be used to test hypotheses and people's reactions to it. As such it qualifies as a medium in which to conduct scientific inquiry. One of the areas art has most proven its scientific value is in the study of human perception. Look up perception or gestalt psychology, and you'll see that half or more of the...

Quite the opposite actually. He's actually rather a geek at heart, and he's very web savvy. On his own (not part of his jobs) he became the #488 top reviewer for Amazon.com for instance. He's quite knowledgeable about many subjects including space exploration, he's on the National Space Society board of governors. Hmm, overpopulation of deer, and they're starving, according the the very liberal New York Times. Not because of a meat eater either. You anti meat freaks should love the suffering that you wish upon them, instead of a quick kill shot and food for a family's table. Guess what? Everything dies.

In the southern US, what are grits? I've heard they're like greasy porridge you eat with eggs? Is this true? What do they taste like?
It's a hot cereal like oatmeal or cream of wheat but instead of being made of oats or wheat, it's made of corn. The fancy name for grits is "polenta" which is essentially the same, as served in Italy, except that grits are usually white corn while polenta is usually yellow corn.

Okay I have to ask. Why do most women have to be right about everything. Has there been a scientific study on this. I am guessing not due to a bunch of silly reasons. But any information would be nice.
I have met some women like you describe, it's really pathological, a woman who feels she must be right, gets furious if you "prove" her wrong, and can never say she's sorry. It's equally unattractive in a man though. It take it as a sign of deep seated insecurity.

That depends on what's causing your sneezing. If it's allergies, try getting rid of what you're allergic to (mold, dust, cat dander...) and vacuuming well regularly with a HEPA certified vacuum.
Many people sneeze just because of dryness in the winter air, in which case a humidifier should help.

You're wrong to assume that most Jewish people don't eat pork. Kashrut (Jewish food law) is only followed by observant conservative and orthodox Jews. Do Chinese take outs serve cat meat as chicken, or is this an urban myth?
Chicken is cheap. It used to be expensive. Stray cats are few and far between and hard to catch. Your typical Chinese take-out needs 30 or more chickens in a night. At wholesale prices that's about $20. Cats don't have large fillets of meat and they would have to be not only caught, but also gutted and skinned. If you're paying someone $10/hour, that gives them only 2 hours...

It depends on one's expenses. If a 30 year old doctor is paying alimony and child support to two ex-wives and his medical school loan while living in New York City, after paying rent, he might only have enough left for a couple packages of ramen soup.

Is wild game safe to eat or are parasites a concern?
Wild game CAN be safe to eat but it should be carefully inspected as should any meat. Parasites are just one of many concerns, and certainly not the greatest threat. Rabies is a bigger concern for hunters and handlers of wild game meat. Some game meats such as bear liver are always considered toxic. Almost all cases of trichinosis are from bear and wild boar meat, but it can be completely...

Please analyze. My second reoccurring weekly dream is that I am in a new house and people keep coming in. I'm trying to push them out, but more and more come in, like Night of the Living Dead, but no violence and they look normal.
Your father is the horse, and your mother is the oven.
No, seriously: a house represents shelter, privacy and safety, but a new house is one that you're not completely comfortable with yet. People coming in of course violate that privacy, causing you to wonder if it's really your home at all. At the core of it is likely a resentment of other people trying to have influence over you...

Alternator belt screams on engine start, put on recon alternator and new belt, still doing it, belt tensioned to max . . . . Im out of ideas. . . help.
Tightening to the max is the WRONG thing to do. Every belt has a specification for proper tension, but pushing in the side of the tightened belt should have 1/2 inch of play in any case. Excessive tightening puts stress on the bearings causing them to heat up and seize. You probably have a bad bearing already, could be on the alternator or A/C... Either take it to a shop or take off the belt...

My biology professor threw me out of the lecture room because my cellphone was ringing. Was this fair? I thought cellphone ban was only for high schools, but he still had me taken out for "disturbance"?
It's perfectly reasonable. Some colleges cost $50,000/year. For this amount, students get about 30 hours of instruction in perhaps 8 courses. Therefore it costs each student approximately $3.50 per classroom minute.
Thus if there are 40 students in your class, and you managed to disrupt the class for one minute with your inconsideration, you cost the class $140. You stole this from...

I think that it doesn't matter really. If you look at a train track you see two parallel tracks from our 3-D perspective. A parallel universe would be similar; from a higher dimension, you might see them side by side, but from where we are, we...

From when does a new life begin - when a couple make love and sperm enters vagina or when egg meets sperm.
The scientific (not religious) answer is that a human life begins when the egg is fertilized by the sperm. If both sides on the abortion debate were honest, they would agree on this point, but pro-choicers would qualify that and call it a life, but not a fully independent one, "not viable outside the womb," and maintain the right to terminate lives under these circumstances.

Since you ask for the "oldest," and not the "earliest" language, we should only consider languages that have been in constant use from an ancient time. However you should be able to adjust and no, it should not kill you if you are reasonably healthy and your lungs work well. If...

I have inherited a stamp collection and have no idea what to do about finding if any are valuable. They have not been cared for other than taken off the envelopefrom othes. Some date back to 1934 and 1935. Most are US stamps and some foreign stamps.
Most stamps taken off envelops are worthless, so honestly the best thing you could do with these is give them to a grade school to help kids learn about other countries and do crafts. If there were any valuable stamps, they would likely have been put in proper cases and locked in a safe deposit box, and the chances that there just might be a gem hiding in there are next to nil.

Your camera is probably not good enough to take good pictures during twilight (most contemporary cameras aren't). You need a camera that lets a lot of light in, is responsive in the lower ranges without introducing a lot of noise, and has spot metering. You probably also need to use a tripod.

Both of these are poor choices, but the chicken is less irritating than the BBQ. But you'd be much better off with chicken soup, rice, bread, macaroni and cheese... avoid the fried foods, avoid spicy things, have a fair amount of liquid and not too much roughage.

Why is grass green because isnt it meant to atract sunlight and so surely it should be white?
White would reflect the sunlight away, but to process sunlight, plants have to absorb it. If chlorophyll were perfect in absorbing all wavelengths of light, plants would all be pitch...

it's probably too late for growth hormones since you've presumably stopped growing. There are some bone-stretching braces that could get you another inch or two but I don't think it's a good idea. It's painful, it takes a fair while, the braces are uncomfortable, and it's not covered by insurance.

I believe that Jesus Christ existed and that he was a good man with a truly admirable message for his fellow man but I don't believe he was the son of god as I'm atheist. So I'm a christian atheist, is this a complete paradox?
Whether or not you're an Atheist depends on whether or not you believe in God, not upon whether or not you believe Christ was "son of God" (or son of man, or friend of God, etc.). If you are a devout Muslim for instance, you would not be an atheist, although you would not believe that Christ is any more than a prophet.

No temperature that you'll ever find one in. Can I use an electric skillet like an oven?
Yes, to do so, you need a trivet to keep food off the bottom, otherwise it will burn. You also need a lid, so you create a space with oven-like temperature. "Dutch ovens" are frequently used this way, for instance to make muffins over a campfire.

One more thing, before you start the cycle, remove anything you might have left inside, like a teflon-coated muffin pan, shoes, or what have you.

In your Opinion do you think for the size southern california has and nearly 24 million people do you think it's overpopulated?
The relevant criterion is "sustainable population." Because of the lack of fresh water, Southern California is over-populated. If they had an unlimited new supply of fresh water, the desert could be made green, and the population could spread inland, in which case the opposite answer would be true.
Answer to:
Is it more expensive to use small space heaters to heat your house or natural gas?
It depends. If you want to heat your whole house up by 30 degrees, your furnace is cheaper. However if you keep your house just above freezing (to keep the pipes from bursting) and heat only your bedroom with a space heater, then you'll be spending less overall. There ARE some heaters that can be run safely 24/7 by the way, like this one. It's not cheap, but it's safe:

The first step would be college. You'll have to decide between architecture and interior design though, although there's some overlap, it's two separate careers and two separate degree programs. It's a long and difficult education. A Bachelor's of architecture takes a minimum of 5 years, and a first professional Master's degree takes a minimum of 6 years. After...

Carefully pry it off (there are usually a couple of metal clips on space bars; peek under it and you'll see how to unclip them. Clean underneath with a q-tip and alcohol. I don't believe in Christmas (I've chosen a different religion than I was brought up with) and pretending that I do makes me uncomfortable. But... I don't want to be an outsider in my family. Should I continue to "celebrate" it or upset everyone?
If you have friends who were Christian, Jewish and Muslim and each of them were getting married in their respective houses of worship, would you go to their weddings? If so, you should join your family for their Christmas celebration, for their sake, not yours, just as you would for your friends' weddings.

Among the important things to know are
1) Self cleaning ovens often smell bad while in the cleaning cycle. You might want to do it when you'll be gone for a couple hours or when it's warm enough to open the windows.
2) There should be a lever to lock the oven. It should not be possible to set it to self clean without locking it.
3) You cannot stop the cleaning cycle on most ovens...

I am 20 weeks prenantg. I never suffered any morning sickness in my 1st trimester. All day today I have basically been clinging to the toilet. Is it unusual to be getting sickness this late in my pregnancy?
It's normal, but it might not be morning sickness. If you're not sick (that should be considered a possibility) one of the possibilities is that smells are setting you off. In the second trimester your hormones might push you toward fixing and cleaning "your nest," and smells of dirty socks, sewage, mold and other things frequently make women vomit during this phase....

What I don't hear in the question is how you treat them, so I assume from this that you don't care about either of them, but only about getting your needs met and being treated like a queen. Consequently I think the "attractive man" is probably right in treating you the way he does, and the "unattractive man" deserves someone better, so I wish him well.

NOTE:
I am agnostic. Your answers will not affect me in any way, shape, or form. Please answer truthfully and feel free to explain yourself. I am interested to know what motivates the beliefs
I believe in one god, and I find it peculiar that most other mainstream Western religions claim to be monotheistic but are not. Praying to Mary or Jesus or saints rather muddles up the God idea I think. And Jews I have spoken with are generally uncomfortable with the idea of God, viewing it more as a historic/scriptural concept rather than a reality, and much of their religious ritual is not...

Maybe your beer is made with malt? That shouldn't be much a result of age, although "skunkiness" is. One thing though, hops lose their bitter edge with age, so perhaps you're noticing the malt only because the hops aren't as prominent.

A teenage shoplifting offense is not considered a criminal offense for this purpose unless she had a criminal trial, was represented by an attorney, was convicted, and served jail time. I feel hopeless alot and I feel like I'm going to die, I get stuck inside my head, this is very stressful and causes me to breakdown too often. I don't think I could go see a Dr. because I would probably laugh while explaining it. Anything else I can do?
Get your coat on, and go to your nearest pet store. Spend at least half an hour petting a kitten, and consider bringing it home with you. It won't solve all your problems, but feeling better is half the battle.
Answer to:
If you could survive going "into" a black hole, what do you think you would see and feel?
imagine going down into the ocean, from sea level to 5000 feet, in 3 seconds. As you feel the air in your lungs compressing you are out of breath almost instantly. The pressure forces your eardrums inward and they burst. Your body is compressed all over, causing pain in muscles and bones. Now imagine that about a million times greater force. With pressure so great it compresses your body...

Why would you NOT vote for Obama?
I will vote for him, but I don't like him for trying to play both sides, simultaneously saying that he's against war/iraq for the benefit of the liberals and bleeding hearts, and saying that he would send an army to Afghanistan, for the benefit of the hawks and republicans. This is shows a lack of integrity and a willingness to prolong war just to get a few more votes.

Is Spanish the easiest foreign language for native English speakers to learn?
It depends. To people who are MUSICALLY talented, Chinese is easy. The grammatical rules of Spanish are very difficult to learn, in comparison to the structure of Chinese. English is actually a Germanic language in its structure, and English...

Presidents don't make the laws (The Legislature does) but I would start off by proposing a good-for-America tax break, so that things that are good for the country are taxed at lower rates than things that are bad for America. Producers of fuel-efficient cars and windows for instance should get a big break while SUVs should have a huge guzzler penalty.

Teachers have an agenda. They have to get you from point A to point B in a limited amount of time. They want you to help in the process. If you hold up the process, you lose and they lose. Help the teacher achieve the agenda, and you might have a new best friend.

Is Pro wrestling fake?
It's real entertainment in a fake sport. Wrestlers really DO have to practice and learn moves, and they really DO bleed, break bones, have horrific falls, and so forth, but it is not a "sport" in the sense that it is scripted and the outcome is determined in advance. The Worldwide Wrestling Federation admitted this in court (because of laws regarding regulation of sport) and...

There are many reasons for artists to draw realistically, which is the reason it is the foundation of nearly every arts program in the western world. If it's bad for a dog, it's bad for a person. There is human food available for less than the cost of dog food though. My opinion is: no life after death and no heaven after death. Heaven to me is being with people you love and having dinner on the table. It's so easy, why don't people do it more often? Cook dinner, invite friends, share the love. I think that finding happiness in this life is also the best way to erase old pains like lost loved ones.

I've used various kitchen substances to stop puppies and kittens from chewing on things. A solution of ginger powder and water or alcohol is pretty harmless and works quite well, plus it's easy to clean off when/if you decide to. The alcohol is to make the liquid evaporate more quickly. I used it on woodwork, shoes, furniture, anything with teeth marks that didn't belong there.

Hello! Can someone explain how our muscles contract.
There's an actin-myocin bridge reaction activated by ATP and producing lactic acid as a waste product. Actin and Myocin are contractile proteins, and ATP is a phosphate compound that is used for energy in the body. The actin-myocin bridge produces tension in the fibers... they pull shorter. All muscles work by contracting. Demonstration:

The carbon footprint of an incandescent bulb is pretty small (compared to a compact fluorescent). The efficiency of incandescent bulbs goes down with age, so you are better off replacing the older ones first. I would aim to get energy efficient bulbs into the most frequently used fixtures immediately. There would be no real benefit from replacing a bulb that you only use a few minutes per...

Foil isn't a big issue for a convection oven, only for a microwave. It's safe to use the self cleaner. It's probably adhered by some food between the foil and the bottom surface. Alternately, take a blowtorch and run it over the foil until the food underneath is melted or vaporized and rub with a rag.

Advice? 32 years old. Last yr had good job and going to school full time. Since ive had divorce, lost car, lost job and soon house is gone and no where to go. My feet and legs have swollen like balloons. Dont know where to turn. Just wondering where to turn
What's causing the swelling? drinking? if so, stop! 32 is young, your life is before you and your education is your ticket to a better life. Your divorce? write it off. Your job? there are others. There's a good life and great opportunities ahead, you only need to focus and decide you're worth it.

What is it like going to the Garnier Opera House in Paris. Too stuffy? Wonderful? How Formal?
There are multiple answers. Charles Garnier was a great architect, and just being in the building is a wonderful experience. Attending the opera itself is hard to explain... it's a gathering of friends all bound by a love of culture, music and fun. You all come to pay homage but simultaneously to enjoy. Have fun, dress up, and be respectful!

I have never seen an Opera and would like to know what to expect? (Serious answers please)
An opera is like a play, a musical or a movie. Most modern operas are like movies because they have "supertitles" that translate what the singers are singing. With an opera you can simultaneously enjoy a classical concert, operatic singing, a play, and sometimes a ballet. Operas are fun, and sometimes they're sad and very moving. Have a great time!
