After an ABer posts a drama-filled AB Departing User question, do you think the staff should prevent that user from coming back with that account?
Hmmm, last time I checked it wasn't a ban-worthy offense to be a drama queen (or king for that matter).
The people that do that only makes asses of themselves. Once is forgiveable. Twice is annoying. Thrice and they should probably be encouraged to find the AB door and not let it hit them where the good lord split them on the way out.
If one has to ask AB-Staff to lock their...

I have been paying $850 mo for 9 yrs. My daughter wont have anything to do with me. I never did anything bad to her or her mother except divorce her. Why should I pay these ingrateful bastards anymore? They are disrespectful but take the money anyway
Because your daughter is still your child no matter what. Being a responsible parent is the right thing to do even if your daughter doesn't apprecaite or acknowledge your support.
I have no idea how old your daughter is, but it sounds like your ex-wife has done what no parent should do. That is to poison your daughter's mind against you. That isn't fair to you or your...

By getting a job or going on welfare. I prefer you do the former, but that's just me.
I'm sure there are ways to get help through local programs where you live. It might not be one that gives you money, but you might be able to get help with childcare or some other non-monitary form of support. Every little bit helps.

It gets old, people you like leave and the social aspect is no longer appealing, or real life is just more important and busy to hang out here. A few possibilities anyway.

I'm very saddened to report that our own "Jen-Jen" has decided to close her account and leave AB, forever. For those who knew her and enjoyed her comments & questions, are you as unhappy as I am, knowing that she's gone and won't be coming back?
I'm sorry, but I am not unhappy or convinced that she's actually leaving/left. Seriously, how many times has a similar question been asked? And how many times has the threat to not return been made before she's back under a different account? TOO MANY TO COUNT.
Oh the drama! I'm not fond of it. Nuf said.

Is it unkind to sprinkle a creepy relatives ashes around a fire hydrant as the ultimate payback beyond the grave
A lot depends on how you want your relatives to treat your remains. Payback is a bitch indeed.
If said creepy relative molested you (or something equally as awful) it's unkind, but deserved. If they were just weird then it's just plain unkind.

That is one of the most abused categories ever. Along with Answerbag Questions. It's likely that some of those are unanswered because they are in the wrong category. Our policy says for bodily injury liability. each person / each occourrence 25,000/50,000. I received a letter from my attorney saying I understand your insured may only have minimum bodily injury liabiality policy. What doe's it mean?
That is the absolute minimum required by law in the state I live in, so that is being pointed out. It also means that if you have an accident the most that would be paid out to one injured person is $25,000. The most that would be paid to two or more injured people would be $50,000. You should probably increase those limits of liability :)

What does he hope to accomplish by humiliating his child? How will that help him do better in school? It won't. Sitting down with his son and discussing what they can do to improve his grades is far less humiliating and more productive.

Was the titanic a 'man made' disaster, or a 'natural' one, because of the iceberg?
A natural disaster is usually defined as something like an earthquake, tsunami, et cetera. The iceberg on its own is not the cause of a natural disaster. It wasn't really man made either. I think it's best classified as an accident.

The staff chooses people they think would make good CLs based on their activity, level of participation, availability, et cetera. In my case, a few people mentioned that I would make a good one to the staff. Rich offered me a chance to be a CL and I took it. They also ask current CLs for recommendations when there is a need for a new CL.

I strongly believe AB should discourage people from asking animal/veterinarian/medical questions. A consensus of well meaning folks is no substitute for trained medical advice, and while they're waiting for an answer, the animal suffers. Do you Agree?
Well, that's why there is that disclaimer. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/18
I'm sure the folks at AB assume that most people have enough common sense to take their pet to a vet. Or to take themselves to a Dr. or hospital. Sadly, this is not always the case. You will find that a lot of well meaning people come by and tell the person asking to take their pet to a vet ASAP.

How many new categories have you suggested?
Hundreds. Almost all of them were created. The only one that wasn't was Tudor History. It seems that somebody suggested a category for King Henry VIII, but that is just a small part of Tudor history and there are a lot of questions that could fit into that category. Oh well.

How common is it for someone to go to jail for driving on a suspended license for the 3rd time. This person did not know it was suspended and it was suspended for not paying a small fine some time ago. This person resides in Maryland.
Very. Third time? You would think that at that point they would make the connection between not paying a fine and having their license suspended. All of that information is listed on the District Court of Maryland and MVA websites.
A suspended license for failure to pay a fine is fairly standard practice. Did the person just think that a ticket would "go away"? As a repeat...

Is paranoia a symptom of depression?
It can be, but it is not necessarily a typical symptom of depression.
Definition
Paranoia is a symptom in which an individual feels as if the world is "out to get" him or her. When people are paranoid, they feel as if others are always talking about them behind their backs. Paranoia causes intense feelings of distrust, and can sometimes lead to overt or covert hostility.

I do actually. I suppose the asker assumes that we all know what their last question prior to that was. We can look it up, but it's best if questions can stand on their own.
New users don't always understand how the comments work. I think that is part of the problem. It's in everyone's best interest to ask questions that do not require the people answering to look up...

Try a Scion xB (wagon). I am on my second one and I love it. It's roomy, gets about 31-34 MPG, and is for all intents and purposes a Toyota. Toyota is tops in reliability. You can pick a used on up fairly cheap.

Why do some parents think beating a crying child will stop it from crying?
They obviously think that the child can understand that the fact that they are crying is causing them to be beaten. Obviously, this is not the case. Either that or they don't care what the outcome is, they just need to unleash their frustration and anger on somebody that is "causing" it. As if a child means to do that. You don't automatically get points just for asking or answering a question. You get points when people uprate your questions and answers. Give it time, the points will come. Welcome to AB :)

How do you deal with people who are always pessemistic about everything?
In a way I feel a little sorry for them. That can't be a very pleasant way to live. Always angry, bitter, unhappy, and with no hope. I try to encourage them to see the bright side of things. If that fails, there isn't anything more I can do but be grateful that I choose not to live my life that way.

When you come upon an old answer to a question that was asked several months or a year ago that has no rating, would you feel compelled to rate it? -i asked because i rated a few unrated old answerers (+) eh, maybe im compassionate?

What would you say if one day AB allowed its members to use a new auto hide option, hiding their profile and Q's & A's from the public..would that upset the community?
Hmmm, probably not the community but AB the company likes exposure. More people ='s more site traffic ='s more dollars.
As for hiding your activity from other users, it's been suggested and is a no go at this time.

I had so much fun in Answerbag today, Did you? (I just hope this is not a duplicate question)
I did. I'll be back later of course. It's not a dupe as far as I can tell. Easy way to avoid that is to type the question you want to ask into the search box to check for dupes/similar questions before you go to the ask a question area :)
Works much better than just relying on the 3 choices that pop up off to the right side of the screen in ask a question.

No.
We all have the ability to uprate something that is seemingly DR'ed for no reason.
The best anti-troll club is the Feedback link at the bottom of every AB page. Report it to the Staff.
Forming a club takes care of the points aspect of those who are trolled, but it does not solve the problem. Reporting it does. Trolls can be identified and dealt with accordingly that way....

Manors usually had four parts to them: arable land, meadow land, waste land, and the village. Each part had a specific purpose and none could be dispensed with if the manor was to survive.
The arable land was utilized by the three-field rotation system which prevailed in most of Europe. This meant that one third of the arable land always...

I don't need to watch Nancy Grace to answer this question. I have followed the case though. She is most definitely deceased. It's not against the law, in most cases, for an employer to ask you to work weekends if that is what you are getting at. Yeah, what Meg said.
When I interview for a job, I typically ask if I will be required to work nights and/or weekends. No surprises that way. Well, almost none :)

Can you say clingy? I'm sorry. I dated a guy like this and he drove me crazy.
Try talking to him and explaining that it's nice to hear from him during the day, but that you have a job to do and you find his calls distracting. Be firm about it and let him know that it is OK to contact you if it's an emergency, but everything else can wait until you get home.
Good luck :)

Not particularly. The only thing that bothered me about that was the assumption of the asker that the opposite of all those things has no value whatsoever. I know plenty of people who are not pretty, not very smart, have small boobs, and are a touch overweight that are certainly not bad catches. Nobody is perfect after all.

I always uprate what I answer. Unless:

Whats the best makeup to use?
Best is a subjective term. The best makeup for anyone is what works best for them in terms of texture, available colors, and what type of look they want to achieve. It also has to work well with your skin type and any sensitivities you have to ingredients.
I use all different brands to get a wide range of all of these things and I don't consider any one of them the "best".

Have you ever been nice to someone who treated you like nothing?
We've all known people like this. There are some people that no matter how nice you are to them, they do not reciprocate. It's just the way it is. It just means they are petty and not very nice people. To hell with them. For every person like that, there are far more that will treat you with kindness and respect :)

What do you think of parents who give their daughters stripper names.. like "Cinnamon"?
I have seen some crazy names for kids. Cinnamon isn't too bad compared to: Kitten, Diamond, and all of the assorted cars people name their children after. Sorry, but Celica is not a great name for a kid.

What would happen if Beavis and Butthead were elected the next president and vice president of the US?
They would be able to say fire in the State of the Union address without fear of lawsuit :)
Fire! Fire!
Early episodes gave them a juvenile obsession with fire and dangerous behavior (summed up with Beavis' chant of "Fire! Fire!"). The show was blamed for a child's death which occurred in West Carrollton, Ohio in October 1993 in which a five year old boy set fire to...

Answer to:
Do you think the best man for the job will be elected? past history shows this does not happen..why?
Well, best man for the job is a subjective term. Who is best to one person may not be to another. How can we say the best man was not chosen? We can't because there is no basis for comparison, only an assumption that the other guy would have been better.

Answer to:
Do you honk your car horn if you are picking someone up, or do you get out and knock on their door?
I never honk my horn to announce my arrival, that's kind of obnoxious in my opinion. If they are expecting me, I expect that they will be watching for me. If they don't appear after about 5 minutes, I call them from my cell phone or I knock on the door.
