Answer to:
What do you have on top of your christmas tree?
My tree is topped by a glittery gold star that my skinflint of an ex-boyfriend bought for my son 3 years ago at the 99 cent store, and which my son still insists MUST go on the tree. He loves it, it's Christmas, it's his tree :) Someday when he's older I'll get to start putting my pretty angel on the tree again.

My boyfriend just started his job today. why was he smoking weed this weekend. thay already took one drug test. will they take another.
Drug testing is random. I have never had to take the test since my hiring and I've been here over 3 years, but my boss had to get tested recently. There is no way of knowing. Plus, if there is any kind of accident on the job he will be tested.
Sorry, but I think your bf is an idiot.

My son is 6 and he sees me n his dad argue all the time and now he is starting have the same attitude with me like his dad i would ask him to do something and he huffs n puffs through the house what should i do?
The problem is not with your son - it is with you and your husband. As long as he sees the two of you fighting, he will emulate his father's behavior and treat you the way his dad treats you.
Maybe you should consider family counseling. Do it now before this behavior is ingrained in his character.

This guy is using you. He will continue to cheat on you. He does not respect you. You know he cheated twice - chances are he has cheated more than that. Sounds like a player to me. Lose him. The sooner the better.

I'm really close to one of my teachers. Recently, he has been being really touchy and flirty. He invited me to go do something with him this weekend... How am I supposed to take this?
How old are you? If you are in high school, this is totally inappropriate and you need to distance yourself from this teacher and talk to an adult about it.
If it's college, it is still highly inappropriate for a teacher to have a relationship with a student - I know of a well respected college professor - a tenured professor - who was forced into retirement for this sort of behavior.

The guy I like has a girlfriend, and now it hard to be around him.I see him three times a week in class.Any advice on how not to be mean to him whenever he talks to me?
If it is in your nature to be mean to him because he chose someone else, then it doesn't sound to me as if you like him at all - you want to possess him, and that is something completely different.
If you ever want to have a chance with him, you won't win him over by being mean and acting jealous. Be nice even if it kills you. It will pay off.
Answer to:
Does holding onto memories of a deceased s/o (letters, card, photos, etc) make it more difficult for one to move on past the loss of their s/o? Would it be best to just burn it all so you won't be tempted to keep looking at them and keep reliving the past?
Don't burn them - you will regret it and you'll never be able to get those things back. Lock them away somewhere, in a place where they will be safe, but which is not convenient for you - like a safe deposit box, or ask a friend to keep them for you. Keep your mementos safe, but make it very inconvenient to get to them.

Just because he insists that you are the one for him, that doesn't necessarily mean that he is the one for you.

Can you recommend a book that you absolutely loved, and think everyone should read? I'm looking for fiction, or at least very entertaining books. Please don't suggest the bible- I've already read that.
You already have one heck of a list, but the absolute best book I ever read was Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky. It's a pretty heavy read, though.
If you're looking for something more contemporary, I highly recommend The Kite Runner.

I flash on an early memory.
We rarely saw thunderstorms where I grew up, so my immediate thought is the curtains pulled wide open on the big picture window, nighttime, my brother and I standing on the couch looking outside, watching for lightning and listening for thunder. I must have been around 4 years old.

Have you ever been cheated on? If you have been, how bad does it feels?
Yes, unfortunately.
The rush of emotions is difficult to describe. When I first learned my initial response was disbelief, but then the realization that I really knew all along but had been in denial made me feel physically ill. Dizzy, angry, sad... betrayed. Everything I had ever believed was instantly called into question, and that brought a sense of hopelessness...
Physically - sick...

It's not just point and click unless that's all you want out of it. There are issues of exposure, framing, composition... depth of field and focus... and if you do your own development and printing you can further control your final outcome.
I dare anyone to look at a giant Ansel Adams museum print and tell me he was not an artist.

What might help is if they see you being more assertive yourself so that they don't have to intervene on your behalf. If you order a burger, order it well-done without them having to remind you. As soon as it arrives, cut into it and make sure it's cooked thoroughly, and if it isn't,...

Hi I've been talking to this guy for about it seems like forever. But only for like 4-5 months. We know each by talking online really well. I want to meet him really bad but he wants me to come to his house. I don't know if I should? I t
No. If he won't meet you in a public place then there is something seriously wrong. You would be putting yourself in a very dangerous and vulnerable position. No matter how well you may believe you know someone from talking to them, you don't really know them at all.

I had an agreement with someone not to cash a post dated check until the money was in the bank. They broke the agreement and I went into the negative. Is there anyway I can get that money back from them? All I have is the copy of the check.
Nope. I had that happen to me years ago when I paid a bill with a post-dated check. They promised not to cash it until the date on the check but they put it through anyway. I went to the bank and was told to never, ever post-date a check. There is nothing to stop them cashing it as soon as you hand it to them. Some people around me are 'blanking' me since my husband and I separated. Particularly since they see that I'm attracted to a man who is very popular but whose wife only died fairly recently. They don't know what I've been through. What can I do?
All you can do is to continue moving forward with your life. People will never understand the reasons behind your separation, and unfortunately many people feel the need to assign blame when a relationship falls apart. They do this regardless of the fact that (1) it's none of their business, and (2) they have not lived your life.
Good luck with your future.

Speaking from personal experience, I don't feel that I have to have personally experienced everything I write about - you can draw your influences from anywhere - literature, other songs, the experiences of others. However, having said that, I think my best songs come directly from personal experience, but usually written after some time has passed and some perspective has been gained.

I wouldn't say I "know" any celebrities, but I've met some famous people.
Doris Day came into the gas station I used to manage. She was with her son and they were driving a pick-up truck and pulling a horse trailer.
I've been to Ry Cooder's house and had tea with his family and the producer of one of his albums.
Met Jon Luc Ponty while having lunch with that...

As far as dating someone who had been institutionalized, that's a tough call. It would totally depend on the individual, the nature of their mental illness, and their current state of stability.

Absolutely. If there is a collision your husband will become a projectile and could kill not only himself but also anyone else who happens to be in the vehicle. Have him watch this video. If he still doesn't want to buckle up, I would refuse to ride in the car with him.
And there is one in California.

You already know what to do. I only wish I would have listened to my father when he told me, "You can't live on love."

Interesting that you are more distrustful of your husband over the website than the fact that he cheated on you. Did he cheat with someone he met through one of these websites, or was this only something he joined after you told him to find another woman? If the latter is the case, and if he was only on the website while the two of you were separated, then you have no grounds.

How do you write a good song?
Listen to great music and draw from those influences. Be prepared to write some lousy songs first - it's part of the process. Write about what's real to you and don't shy away from the details... writing in generalities does not make for great songwriting. If you cry your eyes out while writing it, chances are good that your song will touch other people too.

Do u think a relationship between two persons that were really good friends would work?
I certainly hope so! I am finally with the man I have been secretly in love with for over 30 years. We have always been good friends, but for whatever reason were never able to express how we felt about each other until very recently. So far it all feels very natural, but I do confess that we haven't let on to any of our mutual friends/family what is going on between us. That will be awkward.

There is no contest - the person I love is infinitely more important to me than my career. But the reality is that since I am the one supporting my children and I love them, I had to choose my career over love. I am an idealist though, and believe one day it will all work out.

My acoustic 6-string is a Guild F-50 and I adore it! I bought it new in 1977 and the older it gets, the sweeter it sounds. Yes, Guild guitars are good.

Play a lot and find other players who are better than you to jam with. I started learning using the Mel Bay chord books, buying sheet music for songs I wanted to learn which had chord diagrams... but all the books, DVDs, and online programs in the world won't teach your fingers how to move.

Had mammogram today+was informed they wanted to do an ultrasound to check on an area that was shaded in one breast. They said it's probably nothing more than a gland but since mum has breast cancer, we should check. I'm 32. Any advice? I'm panicking.
Have the ultrasound done if for no other reason than to have peace of mind. There are types of cancer that can't be detected by the mammogram, and if that's the case you want to catch it as quickly as possible. If it is just a gland, you can put your mind to rest.

I don't really have a hard time with that - I am very observant and often know more about people than they realize, but I'm good at keeping it to myself.
What was really strange recently though was that I met someone who went to my same high school over 30 years ago. I didn't know him at all back then and I don't remember him now no matter how I wrack my brain, but he...

I feel like a pig now! I'm a single working mom with 2 kids who have me driving them all over hell and back on my days off, so I clean it when I can't stand it any more. Hopefully that's at least once a month, but it varies depending on time available and my tolerance level.

When you drive do you typically go the exact speed limit or 5-10 miles more?
Oh dear. I have to be honest? I almost never stick to the speed limit when I'm on the freeway. I do better in town, largely because there are always a lot of kids walking to school on my route to work. However, if there are no kids at large and if I don't see a police cruiser around, I speed in town too.

What is the funniest thing you child or children have said or done that made you laugh so hard?
My son is always cracking me up. Once we were in a store and he was looking at a man ahead of us in line and said, "That man is wearing 2 rings. Does that mean he has 2 wives?"
Another time we were in a restaurant and our server was kind of a little guy. As he was walking away, my son turned to me and said in his usual very loud 5 year old voice, "Mommy, that man has a tiny...

It was like a Greek tragedy. I was in junior high and he was in high school. We were going steady, as people did back in ancient times :) He ditched school one day and was hitchhiking with a buddy and they were killed in a horrible accident with a semi truck.
I learned afterwards that I was one of 4 or 5 girls he was going steady with at the time.

Lots of great answers here already.
Tuning can be an issue with 12-string guitar. You need a good quality guitar to begin with, and you need a good ear. I learned to tune by ear and found that to always be more accurate than using a tuner.
Re-stringing was never an issue - why would you want to restring your guitar right before or during a gig? The only string I ever broke during a set...

What is the best book you ever read?
This one is easy for me to answer - Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky. No other book has ever provoked me, moved me, and made me think like this book has.

So, did this minister get his license out of a Cracker Jack Box, or was it one of those online deals where you fill in your name and download a certificate?

This girl will ruin your life if you let her. You already lost your two best friends over her. How much more will she require of you? And when there are no sacrifices left to make, I just see her leaving you in a pile on the floor. She has no respect for you, for her current boyfriend, or for herself.

I thought he was fabulous, and I thought it was brilliant of him to sing it straight. It showed just how versatile he really is.

Would you stop to help a lost child?
Yes, I have and would certainly do it again.
My 6 year old got separated from the rest of us at a crowded beach not long ago. I searched and searched for him and was on the verge of tears. Finally I saw him - he was with another mom and her two children. They were all searching together to help him find his family.
We all have to help each other in this world.

What would you do if you found out your husband was sexually abusing your kids? and you love your husband and had a good life..
Kick him out or grab the kids and leave. Press charges and send him to prison. Get counseling for yourself and your children. There is no happy ending when a child has been sexually abused, but do anything you can to minimize the damage.
Most of all, don't wait.

You've just been served some burritos at a restaurant, and they are stuffed so full of meat and other filling that it's making a real mess. Do you send it back, or do you deal with the mess and enjoy the meal?
Deal with it. Who wants a skinny burrito anyway??

Who or what helps keep you sane?
I was going to say my children, but on second thought they often have the opposite effect! So I will have to say music, and finding the occasional quiet moment to sit on the porch swing and just think about nothing.

My neighbor beat his son with a curtain rod for spilling milk on the floor, even though the poor kid apologized to him immediately and agreed to clean the mess. Was it right of my neighbor to do that?
Report this person to the police immediately. What will this Neanderthal do when his son actually does something wrong?

I didn't become a fan of theirs based on their political views. Why should that change how I feel about them as an athlete?

Do you feel like you have enough stuff or do you still want more and more?
I have too much stuff. I've started giving things away through freecycle. That way I'm not filling up the dump with stuff I no longer need, and someone who can use it gets it for free (hence the name).

We separated 8 mnths ago, I've been very unhappy and tried to get my husband to talk and work on our relationship (28 yrs). He refuses to 'go there'. Now a friend said my ex 'admits he loves me' but I would have to go on my hands and knees, should I?
No no no no nonononono a thousand times no.
Your husband has already told you in his words and in his actions that he is not willing to do ANYTHING to work on your relationship. In what way is groveling going to help the situation? If you ask me, and you kinda did when you posted your question, this is your signal to get out.
Get a lawyer. Do the paperwork. End it once and for all and get...

Alright, so I went out with my ex for a year, and I really want him back, back he keeps telling me to wait, and I know he stil loves me because he says he stil wishes he was with me, but he has a gf, and we had sex and everything, so I am really confused?
Just because he had sex with you does not mean he really loves you. The fact that he keeps putting you off and staying with his girlfriend tells me that he wants to have his cake and eat it too. Sweetheart, he is using you.
Try this - all the sweet things he says to you, imagine him saying those same words to his girlfriend, because believe me he is.
You can do much, much better.

What challenges would you advise for a group of 16 year olds to undertake for charity during a long summer? ( we are no strangers to camping and treking but are looking for something immencly challenging but not to exspensive)
Many organizations have events over the summer months that these kids could get involved with. For example, our local chapter of the National Federation of the Blind is having a Walkathon soon, where all of the sighted participants will be blindfolded. Could be a very interesting experience for people who haven't considered what it might be like to live in a world without sight.
Or...

Are you in the career that you thought you would be?
Not even close. My whole life was spent playing music and studying music. Now I work in offshore logistics. The funny thing is that my boss hired me because I got a degree in music at the same college where his son studied music. Life is funny sometimes.

What is your favourite Alfred Hitchcock film?
Tough to make a choice, but I'll go with Shadow of a Doubt. Joseph Cotton was so charming/chilling in that role.
Notorious is a very close second with Claude Rains, Ingrid Bergman, and Cary Grant. But heck, they're all good!

Was anyone shocked that Michael Johns was sent home from Idol?
My jaw nearly hit the floor! But I'm cynical of the show anyway (even though I watch it religiously), and I think they juggle the numbers the way they want. Every year about this time they do this, and someone who deserves to stay gets dumped, like Chris Daughtry for example. It's a way to shake up the fans and get them to vote even harder for their favorites.
Answer to:
Have you ever kept or keep a journal or diary?
I journaled for many years, then got a wild hair and burned them all :( Now I wish I hadn't done that! I went for several years without writing but started up again recently. For me it's relaxing and cathartic. Plus, it's a creative outlet. Sometimes a song or a poem will begin with something I jotted down in my journal.
